followed the root step by step. I have S-off, and SU installed... but when i go to install certain roms, I get this.
--install / sdcard ...
finding update package..
opening update package...
E:cant open /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(bad)
not sure whats up with that, someone said its cause I dont have SU, but I followed the root process exact, so what else does this mean? and how can I get other these roms to work -
this rom is Viper 1.2
Did you flash a su zip?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Try the latest twrp 1.0.2 I had the same problem as you, and I redid the recovery tonight, and the problem is gone, for me, at least on the one rom I flashed tonight. I tried cwm yesterday and got an error with that recovery too, but it was a different error, but I am sure it meant the same thing.
Another way around it is to just do a reboot. Your system wont be there so reboot into bootloader and go back into recovery. This worked yesterday for me....
yes neopolotin75 , I did flash the SU file, signed and unsigned....
and yes B-Mod, got 1.0.2 installed, and also again did the signed and unsigned, wiped everything, formatted everything, and still no go....
not sure what the heck. maybe take my phone back to stock, and start over...
thanks anyhow...
disconnect the cable from the phone.....
FIGURED IT OUT - i got my file from mega upload, 2 times..... along with some of the other roms, and they always gave that error...
I now got viper 1.2 from hostfile. it is installing, after comparing the files, mega upload said it was good, but was missing about 2 megs of data.
hope this will help anyone else who gets this error, just try different sites for your roms as they seem to be getting hit hard with lots of downloads.
I had the same issue. If you re-apply the ZIP a second time it works without an error message.

Sometimes. If it's a status 0, 1, or 2 that is usually accurate. Just reboot back into recovery and it works. But if it says "bad", the .zip is corrupt and it needs to be redownloaded.

This ROM has been superceded by MCR 1.5 here.

No, there is no monthly service charge...at least not yet. I have been using wave secure for a little while now, and for a 3rd party security app its pretty damn good.
I tried to flash and got this:
Code:
E:No space left on device
E:Error writing Boot:
E:Failure at line 369:
write_raw_image PACKAGE:boot.img BOOT:
Installation aborted.
I tried to reboot and it wouldn't boot, so I pulled the battery and went back into recovery and tried to apply the NANDROID backup, seemed to apply fine, but now it always boots into bootloader, no matter what I do. I can still make it into recovery so it isn't all lost, but I can't do anything else from there.
Bizarre, never seen an error like that before!
What happens if you try to re-apply the ROM?

Re-Applying the ROM gets the same result.
I did Wipe and try to re-apply and also wipe and Nandroid. All got me nowhere. I ended up getting it fixed by applying Cyanogens Bacon1.img. I am really interested in your ROM though. Think maybe I got a bad download or something. I will try again and check the md5 sum this time.
my tether puts a signal out and all but i cant connect to it.. only get local
So after downloading the ROM again after the first one didnt work, I got this for the md5 checksum:
Code:
e04970294888313787d0b9d5cb370a12
Which is entirely different than what is posted on the MoDaCo Forum:
Code:
d537e42372a7239dfaf40846ef0b8b4e
However, I could be doing it wrong. This is the first time I tried using md5 checksums to verify a download. However I used two different utilitys to get the same checksum and I don't want to try to flash it again and have it mess up.

I can help fix your problem and it is very simple. READ THE FIRST POST BY PAUL. DO NOT WIPE. Do a Nandriod backup then apply the update. Remember do not extract the rom file with I hope WINRAR, just rename update. Let me know if this solves it for you which it should. Kevin

Maybe I should have explained everything I did step by step, I did READ THE FIRST POST BY PAUL AND DIDN'T WIPE. Before I even tried flashing, I performed a Nandroid Backup. I booted into recovery, applied the update, got the error message I listed, tired to reboot, got stuck, pulled the battery, booted back into recovery, performed a wipe, reapplied the update, rebooted, still a no-go, rebooted back into recovery, performed a Nandroid restore, after it completed, rebooted, got stuck on bootloader screen, reloaded the ROM on the SD card, tried flashing again, still no luck, ended up flashing Cyanogens Bacon1.img to fix the problem.
I want to give it another try, but I may wait and find out if my md5 sum is correct or maybe try another link if someone post it up.

Paul's rom's are only at modaco and I am pretty sure he does not allow other links for I only use his rom's and have one on my Hero Telus, AT&T 3G, and what I like most about them is he keeps them as close to stock as possible, a good thing, and just optimizes them.
Your not going to brick your n1 so I know your gun-shy now but try the link a few more times even and it will work. Also, delete or format your memory card so it the rom is at the root for this might have something to do with it. Want you to have a happy ending. Kevin
The zips are signed, if a download is corrupt it won't flash.

I am a noob and cant get into clockwork recovery. First off I have updated to Official Froyo through Kies. I rooted through superonclick, downloaded titanium, got busybox off market and then it updated through titanium. Backed up apps and system data. Downloaded Rom manager it says i have clockwork 2.5.1.2. When i click to reboot into recovery and click reinstall packages it says
"E: failed to varifywhole-file signature"
"E:signature verification failed"
Installation aborted.
Please help i am so frustrated with this froyo and want Axura rom on my phone.
What am i doing wrong? Thanks in advance

Must be stupid, I used my pc to install via debugging it seemed to take but then when i reboot into recovery and reinstall packages still blue recovery. What am i doing wrong?
Edit: It took a REAL HOT MINUTE but, after lots of reading and looking around I found on another post to use titanium and delete slacker radio, then re-run installer from pc and reboot into recovery second time it worked perfect. The day is saved! Bionix-v Here I come!

Yea, in the link in my previous post is where i got the idea from. After some more reading I found post that said there wasn't enough room in the system folder. It actually said to delete slacker and amazon mp3, but just deleting slacker worked for me. After that rerun the e3 recovery via computer as stated here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423). When phone restarts you may have to go to rom manager and click into reboot into recovery again (maybe twice) but then you should see the green clockwork recovery screen. Also don't forget to back up apps with titanium first
let me know it it works.
whats up ou8, i read the link you sent, but i was lost on how to run "script " am sorry am a bit of a noob on all this but am a quick learner and i been reading tons of these forums but they sometimes leave me lost cause they have alot of different ways to do these things. Do i have to download something to run Script ?
Im definatley new to this stuff also..since Thursday...but anyways...once you plug ur phone into pc, with debugging clicked, open the zip file on ur pc and follow the instructions. It will run automatically, it may not take the first time just follow the recommended option. That's what I did and it worked great. Good luck

This is what i did. I DL 3e recovery. Im opened it up on my pc, and the phone is plugged in with debugging. I opened up the "Install.bat" in the 3e recovery file, but it keeps saying " The system cannot find the path specified " when i run it. I then run the " Temp Root.exe " but it fails at the end of the steps. man i feel like this phone doesnt want to be played with

Thank you for your posts. I had the same issue and spent hours scratching my head. Simply removing slacker finally made it possible for me to finally at least begin the installation of Bionix.
Heres the problem i was running vanilla tazz v28. trying to flash ginger tazz19 i thought i flashed g apps before rebooting but it happened pretty fast for a flash i thought, it turns out it looked like it flashed but i got an installation abort. i did boot without g apps. while trying to reflash i made a big mistake and partitioned sd, lost backup. now anything i try to flash gets installation abort. im stuck without market plus apps. i did full wipe every time and tried deleting/reinstalling roms plus g apps. Oh yeah and i did every flash manually cuz i heard of clockwork mod bricking issues please tell me how to get my phone back.
CWM bricking issues are verrrry few & faaar between. I use it b/c of trackball issues w/o any problems. I take it you have ROOT, yes ?! You do not have any NANDROID BACKUPS to restore >?!?! This is one of countless occasions where they're invaluable ! ALWAYS make a NAND B/U !! You can always go back & delete them down the line.
IMO, this is no big deal at all ... unless you gotta brick, there is always hope.
>> Even though you partitioned your SDC, that shouldn't give you a bad Install
>> First things First >>> RE-DOWNLOAD Tazz's ROM.zip (you can check the md5 checksum to verify clean, proper d/l)... to be thorough.
THEN, [IN RECOVERY] put it on your SDC by mounting SDC thru USB, place freshly d/l'ed ROM zip .... unmount, try to flash it .... then flash yer gapps, reboot !

Ok not sure how to check md5. Redownloaded both booted to recovery, usb toggle, drag zips, flash gingertazz19 gets about half way through, and... Install from sd card......

DID YOU DO A FULL WIPE, DATA & DALVIK ? It shouldn't be saying GSB ANYTHING - it sounds like you need to do a full wipe ,then FLASH. It doesn't say you wiped in your list of actions .... ? That is the first & foremost.
.... if you're trying to install Tazz's GB ROM, it shouldn't be giving you any GSB errors ! Are you trying to install Ginger Tazz 19 ? Those are 2 different ROM's !
YOU CAN'T (act. you can, but not stable & def. not recommended !) FLASH A DIFFERENT ROM OVER ANOTHER ROM W/O DATA/DALVIK WIPE, REGARDLESS IF THEY'RE BOTH GB/CM !
Also, it has been clearly noted that going from Froyo ROM's/CM 6.2 to GB ROM's/CM 7.0 (or vice-versa !) that the need to format your sdcard is very important & necessary ... read the OP's from GinTazz or GSB or Condemned ... they all suggest this.
I'll check back on ya later - good luck.

First thing I would suggest trying is to download the Rom again and see if that helps. Could be a bad download.
ok so i got my replacement thunderbolt and tried to use the 3 step root tool on here and i think something went wrong. i made it to step 3, it says s off and seemed ok. i rebooted, tried to fix permissions to test and it failed. now all i get is the HTC white boot screen and thats it. i can go into bootloader (the screen with hboot, recovery, etc) and i can load up recovery but when i try to do a restore (backup from the old phone) i get an error and it fails. is it screwed? what can i do to correct this? thanks guys!

If you can get into recovery, wipe EVERYTHING (data/cache/dalvik). Then mount USB and put a rom on your SD. Flash that. If you tried to fix permissions BEFORE you installed a ROM, then you kinda skipped a step mate.
DO NOT RERUN THE ROOT METHOD. IF you have S-OFF, jut flash a ROM

thank you for the quick reply! so there is some hope for this thing then, woohoo!
yes i have wiped everything you mentioned. how does one mount usb from that menu? from within recovery? i saw a usb option on that (is it called bootloader?) is that what your speaking of?
now as a rom i DO have the gingerjane rom from jcase on there somewhere, is that safe to flash on there to fix this? thanks again!
If you have access to recovery (as you said you do) just load it, wipe, and flash any Thunderbolt rom you put on your sdcard (or already have in your case). Whether the rom you flash will fully works or not depends on whether it is compatible with your current radio.
But as long as you have access to recovery, you are set.
it booted! thank you both.
now im positive the root failed but it says s-off and superuser does show in the app drawer. im gonna try to d/l rom manager since its not on here anymore and see if it works.
if root failed am i safe to do the three step process again?
just don't flash roms with Rom Manager. It's known to cause problems with the Thunderbolt..

Not sure what "3 step process" you are referring to but I'm gonna say no.
You have recovery. You can clearly flash roms. The roms contain Superuser.apk and su binaries which means THEY are rooted. Flash a good copy of a rooted rom from recovery and you will have working SU.
If that means you have to download another copy of a rom and put it on your sdcard then do it. Point is, roms are "rooted" not the phone. You can't "root" something that doesn't have an OS. Common misconception but I'm leaving it at that.
Everything is working great now, thank you all for your guidance and support. Love my android community. Can't thank you enough.
I keep getting this message when I try to flash a couple different mods and Im baffled.
e:/ unable to stat '/sdcard2/' ....... yes it says STAT and not Start.
Evo4g LTE -> Rooted and Unlocked w/TWRP
Backed up once I did all that.
I can flash the Viper ROM no problem and have done that and gone back to stock and now back on Viper.
Ive tried to flash DualCPU Mod, the V6Supercharge, the Advanced Power Menu ...... none seem to take with either Viper or Stock ROM.
I always get that message ..... always trying to flash through TWRP Recovery
Ive searched Google and XDA ..... can take a flame if needed to get some help .....
I have not yet tried doing the flashes manually through my laptop and ADB
Appreciate anything helpful someone can post.
Maybe you have to mount the sd card first? I've not tried it but there should be an option to mount or unmount. Maybe it isn't mounted for some reason.
Could also be due to TWRP looking on internal SD card whereas goomanager is looking on external (or visa-versa)
If you're using goo.im manager, try flashing directly from twrp.
Good luck!
