Best way to Backup Home Screens with Titanium Backup? - HTC EVO 3D

I am currently rooted running Bloody Beast, every time I swap my ROM's I have to re-setup my home screens. I usually use Launcher Pro and Backup/Restore that way, but now that I'm on HTC Sense I wanna actually use it.
The reason I ask is I am nervous to just fully backup HTC Sense in Titanium Backup, I have royally glitched up my system restoring things like that in the past and want to avoid that. Is there one specific item titanium backup can do that does the desktops alone?

I just back up HTC Sense (the one with icon that looks like the home screen) and restore that and haven't had any issues whatsoever.

+1 Just restore it by itself after you have restored everything else and all will be good.

Awesome, thanks I love xda

Thanks guys. Did not know this...good to know.

It doesn't work quite very well on ICS with Sense 4, because my ROM (PkMn 5.1) works before restoring homescreens very well. After restoring it, my screens look backuped correctly, but after a few minutes my phone reboots. This happens all the time until I delete the data of htc sense. So is there another way? I tried it with MyBackupPro, but nothing happens. The app tells me just that everything worked fine but I can't recognize a correct solution.
Thanks

[Q] Restoring desktops?

With the number of awesome third party ROM's out there I'm finding myself wanting to try each and every one that comes out to see if it's better than the one I'm currently using - you know, Flashing Addict!
I've got Titanium Pro and have no uses restoring my apps but whats the best way to save and restore the icons on the desktop? Having to rebuild them each time I flash is curbing my enthusiasm to try out new ROM's...
TIA!
LauncherPro (free version) offers a features in it's preferences area to backup / restore homescreens. However, it warns of the inability to completely restore all widgets and their settings. Why? The dev blames Android system limitations. Hopefully this will not be the case for ever.
Also, using a program like MyBackup to backup the Launcher app (you're currently using) and it's data (APK+DATA) cuts down on this time but also may not restore everything 100%.
I am not aware of any program that can restore home screens 100% perfectly for all launchers across roms / android OS versions. However, the above methods are better than nothing.
Thanks. I'll see if I can identify the data part of the launcher app in the titanium backup... At least if I'm going from one version of a ROM to another which uses the same launcher maybe I'll be able to get most of the icons back in place. Am far less worried about widgets as at the moment they've not grown on me so I don't have many installed.

[Q] Need help finding a ROM....

First, I have an Incredible and have done all the goodies to it, but my wife has an Eris and Im gonna need some help getting it right.
I month or so ago I rooted my wife's Eris and installed xtrSense on it because it looked closest to stock (with Sense). A couple weeks later htc mail kept force closing, over and over. Then some days it would go an entire day and not have service, while mine would when they are sitting next to each other. (by no service I mean the phone part of the smartphone did not function).
The biggest problem I am going to have in finding a ROM for this thing is she LOVES the HTC calendar widget and the HTC mail widgets. She has 2 work emails and a personal email, all of which have their own HTC mail widget.
Is there a vanilla ROM that has a widget that is similar to the HTC Mail widget?
I have been leaning towards KaosFroyo but the problem being the mail widget. I LOVE that Gingerbread theme by SicNside though!
Sorry for the long winded post!
Honestly, Ryan - instead of switching it up on her, re-download xtrSENSE, wipe, and flash it. This time, flash it TWICE just to make sure. Reboot, let it go, and then set it up with all her ****.
Once that's done, go to this thread and download the newest ERIS radio available:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=650121
Download it to the phone, rename it to "update.zip" and put it in the root, reboot to recovery, flash it, reboot, let it install, reboot, and wait for your phone to start up.
Give it a little bit - and you should be good to go.
Long answer short: no (not that I've seen), the HTC widgets are pretty darn exclusive.

Thanks very much for the reply. One question though, why install it twice?
Flash it twice just to be sure. It gets rid of any stray files from the old stuff

Only needed if the phone suffers from OCD: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
Complete and utter BS voodo - computers are deterministic. Sort of like saying you will do a better job at work today if you drive there three or four times "just to make sure".
The suggestion the first responder provided is no different than if you simply performed a "wipe data/factory reset" in Amon_RA.
What you really ought to try is clearing the data store for a few selected apps (Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications), rather than nuking all the user data and settings and starting all over. You might even consider making a backup so you can make several attempts at it if something doesn't work out as you expect.
Thanks for the replies.
I always nandroid before doing a ROM, especially on her phone. I just dont get why all of a sudden she had an "x" over the signal bars on her phone for an entire day, then all of a sudden it started working again. Also the htc mail force closing literally every 10 seconds.
Is there a way to backup all of her home screens, then wipe, then install xtrSense again? It takes forever to re-set up all of her screens since they are all full.

I'll admit that the signal issue is a little strange (but you didn't mention whether it comes right back after rebooting, or whether you checked to see if airplane mode had been toggled on accidentally).
Have you tried clearing the application data and cache for the HTC Mail App to see if that changes anything?
The HTC version of Sense had a thing called "Themes" that you could create - but it didn't save them to the SD card, so if you did a factory reset (or a wipe), you would lose all your themes. Kind of stupid, really; but then again, making those settings survive a ROM replacement (or factory reset) wasn't part of HTC's requirements.
I think you are kind of stuck, unless xtrSense uses a 3rd-party launcher. (For instance, ADW and Launcher Pro have means to backup your home screens) Apps, emails, contacts, bookmarks, and SMS/MMS messages can all be backed up using 3rd-Party (market) apps for those purposes, but I will agree with you - restoring a Sense ROM takes some time.

This should really be a reply to RyanTX, but I was lazy.
My Backup Root (free on the market - make sure and look for ROOT version, not My Backup Pro which costs $) will backup your home screens.
The only problem with any program that backs up your home screens, including Launcher Pro or ADW (at least it used to be - let me know if anything's changed) is that due to restrictions made by Google, they will NOT restore widgets, only everything else, which pretty much defeats the usefullness of the ability IMHO.

Even the "built in" ADW backup/restore method won't handle widgets, so maybe it is an Google API thing, I don't know. OTOH, I have 7 home pages with only 4 widgets in use, so I find that backup/restore darned handy - even if I have to fix up a few widgets manually, it still saves me plenty of time. You're right, it would be great if it worked perfectly - but a little bit (or a lot in my case) is better than nothing at all.

True. I guess as long as someone isn't like I used to be; I used to have 20+ widgets over several home screens. Now I like to keep things simple, I only have six things, and only on one screen, although five of the six are widgets.

Eris & GSBv2.0 Force close issue

Hi,
I just flashed Gingerbread 2.3.3 to my Eris. Everything works great until I restore my apps with Titanium Backup. After that's complete, I keep getting a Force Close on androis.process.acore Any idea what's causing this? Like I said, everything works great until I replace my old apps.
Thanks!
It seems like CM7 doesn't like Ti Backup. Some people have issues while others don't. I don't use it so that's ask the help I can give, just our quirky Eris
Sent from my phone, duh
Just like the poster above me. It seems that TB is hit and miss when restoring apps in these CM7 roms. Generally I only use TB to delete "stock" apps that I don't want. You might be able to run logcat while trying to restore said app and see if it says anything during the force close. If you don't know how to run logcat just look for a tutorial on here to help you.

Thanks guys! I tried reflashing the ROM and reloading all my apps manualy, i.e. without Titanium Backup and it's working beautifully! I did use it for one app though because I needed all my data back with the app. As soon as the app was restored, I deleted TB. Still no issues. All is good!

if your last backup was on froyo and you were trying to go to GB then some people have reported TB issues. Many (including myself) have used TB after the initial GB flash to backup and restore without any issues.

when going from one OS version to another, don't restore data. Apps should be fine, but not app or system data; its been known to cause issues. There's even a setting in Ti that addresses this.

[Q] Restore app drawer folders from Titanium Backup Pro

I'm getting quite a few apps now (maybe need a cull), and generally full wipe before before installing any new ROM or changing Android bases. I know it can be long winded method, but have the procedure 'down pat", but I prefer this way as I have nearly no issues ever, and probably saved much more time than wasting it on troubleshooting problems.
[Q] Is there a method to restore the ONLY app drawer folders together with the restored apps that were in each folder at time of backup?
I realise that this is a system app and could possible cause problems,
but just for future reference, do I use TWLauncher 2.3.6 restore data only, or is there some other way or setting to do it. If this is the way, I also assume this will retore home pages shortcuts and widgets etc. I don't really need that.
Edit : For trouble free restoration, I've normally not restored system apps or system data (red in TB).
Cheers

Yes, I think restoring data only will do the trick. You are risking FC's though, but it's impossible to tell without trying.
Another solution could be to use a different launcher and backup that launcher. This way you can restore without problems. It's not the solution your want, but maybe you haven't thought about it.
Thanks, might give or a go next time I flash, could be a while tough as this current CheckROM and DK kernel are pretty smooth.
Of course will nan-backup immediately prior, just in case of any FC's.
Never tried any other launcher for SGS2, other than TW, when i'm in the experimenting mood, might definitely give it a go.
Cheers

[Q] First ROM?

So I'm itching to load the first ROM to my Rezound, I was kind of waiting on Cyanogen but it seems like it's still pretty far away from everyday use. I've used CM in the past and loved it. I'm not a huge fan of Sense ROMs but I'm getting use to it. I DON'T like how on Sense the background stays still when you scroll left and right to different apps & how it does that spinny thing if you flick it to fast. (I get dizzy and fall down a lot..LOL) Are there any ROMs out there that have the scrolling background and NO spinny thing? I really hate re-doing my phone every time you load a ROM. Any advice on a good way to make the transition easier would be appreciated. What is your app reload stratagem like? I usually just re-download all my apps. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure you can turn off the fast flicky thingy...Not sure off the top of my head where that setting is, but I think I've seen it somewhere.
That being said, I'm using Xtreme Outcast's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507670
It has sense removed and the UI is very sharp and nice on the eyes.
Seems like a new rom comes out every day, so you need to just pick one and try it out. Once you get the hang of it, it takes only minutes to flash a new one, so just try out a few of them and see what you like (always backup before trying a new one).
As far as your apps are concerned, you can either manually re-download them from the market (not bad if you don't have a ton of apps) or use a backup app (like titanium, or one of the 100 others out there).

Thanks trud9340, I didn't see Xtreme Outcast in the ReZound ROM list. Cool so it's De-Sensed! I'm gonna try it, I'm getting things backed up with Titanium now. I've been using Titanium for a while now but have never used it to restore apps after a ROM install, just mainly used it for backing up apps and restoring app if an app update was flaky! Here goes!
It sounds like your issue is with the launcher. Have you tried out any others, like ADW, LauncherPro, or GO? They give you the options to do what you are wanting without having to change your current ROM.

Don't restore data from one ROM to another though, from what I've read that can introduce problems.
I use AppMonster Pro for my app back ups. It's really great and it's so easy on the eyes when you want to restore. Then it gives you the option of installing from sd or from Market. Also, as soon as you download a new app it backs it up. I love that.
+1 for xtreme outkast ICS ROM. Been using it since it came out and it's definitely the closest I've gotten to ICS on the Nexus. Looks sexy and runs really smooth. If you're looking into one without sense I'd definitely go with it.
