[BOOTANIMATION] Nintendo Gameboy logo - HTC EVO 3D

I made a simple bootanimation that I wanted to share. Its formatted for the qhd res on the evo 3d. Its the Nintendo logo from the gameboy. I made an mp3 to go with it if you want the sound too.
Check out bootscoot tool over the the development forum to get sound working.

[Q] Avatar Bitrate/Quality Settings?

Anyone happen to know what the bitrate/settings are of the preloaded Avatar movie? I'm trying to convert my bluray 720p down to a 480x800 friendly size, but it keeps looking like crap. Or, it'll look great, but end up being about 3.5gbs. I played with a Vibrant at the T-Mobile store and the copy of Avatar was crystal clear.
I gave up and ordered a 16gb class 6 micro sd card. Problem solved!
Though, if anyone does happen to find out the details, I'd still love to know.

What are you using to encode? I personally use RipBot with a variable bitrate. I set the encoder to mp4/avc (h.264), res to 800x480,and the average bitrate to 1500. These videos have looked excellent for me and should be more than enough.

Awesome, I'll try it out. I'm using Any Video Converter free.
Xilisoft Video Converter has been good to me over the past two or three years. It converted from DVD to a format my iPhone would read. Now all the movies I buy mostly have a digital copy so I don't use the software as much any more. My Vibrant plays back everything (MP4/DivX/WMV/H.264/H.263)that plays on the iPhone so no need to convert either.

How did you put a digital copy on your phone? I bought cop out on blu ray and it came with a digital copy and I just drag it onto my sd card then i try to play it and it says there is a license error or something like that.

You can't use the digital that comes with it. Its meant for iDevices or Windows media devices. I just use Handbreak to convert my videos and use a custom preset with the resolution of the phone and an average bitrate of 1200 and its good.

I hope when you say resolution of the phone you mean 1280X720, because there is no reason to go any lower unless the original file was not HD.

When I say the resolution of the phone, I meant 480 x 800. Unless your gonna output to the TV via DLNA or a Micro USB to HDMI cable, there is no point to have a 720p.
As of right now I found no way to look at the stats for the avatar movie since its a protected file...except that it is around 1gb in size, so by that I'm assuming the bitrate is anywhere from 1500-2000 if that helps...and the size must just be the size of the phone 800x480

I recoded a 4.13gb HD movie down to 2200 bitrate and it turned out 1.52gb... that was 1280x720 though. Avatar is (or should be) 800x480 so it may have a slightly higher bitrate... avatar.dcf is 1.40gb.
The included trailer is encoded at 1300ish kbits so its safe to assume that Avatar is also encoded at this rate.

I agree. I can drop the bitrate to well under 1000 for a basic DVD rip and it still looks great.
Hm, that could be it. I'll double check.
Update: Yeah, I setup RipBot correctly this time and it came out perfect. Bitrate's about 1350kbps @23fps. 800x450. 1.6gb. I don't think I had the h264 mp4 option selected at the bottom the first time.

Hello fellow Android Bros/ Sis!
I was searching through google and XDA and found myself here. I was really interested in the outcome of your video. My question is:
1) Was this video a conversion from a Blu Ray movie or a regular HD movie/ file?
2) What were your Audio Output settings?
Short History: I have both the Captivate and the Vibrant, and wanted to see if i could just use my Blu Ray Movie of Avatar to Rip and Convert for the Captivate since my Vibrant already has it. Plus i also wanted to be more familiar with Handbrake myself (have converted dozens of HD movies so far), but Blu Ray is an issue for me. As far as video, i can transcode no problem. Audio on the other hand, is either slow-distorted-muffled or no sound at all. Regardless of which audio codec i tried.
Thoughts?
WHAT UP, NICE avtar, HOW DID U PUT G.O.W IN YOUR PROFILE?
Avc is a horrible encoder. I had a crystal clear 1.5gig avatar file in aweird format that avc'ed and it came out with 200 megs in the ****tiest quality ever.

[Q] Stereoscopic side by side 3D MKV movies on Evo3D possible?

I'm seeing that all the dvd rips for 3D movies are called side by side stereoscopic. Pretty big files from what I'm seeing too (3-4 gigs). Are these the 3D movie files that are gonna be for sale? Or possibly another type?
I haven't heard of any 3d video content for sell other than Blockbusters 3d Video rental app of course. I have no idea what format it will read or make when you use 3d videos :/.
I'm not really surprised that the file size is so huge. If I'm not mistaken, to create the 3D effect, the makers of the 3D movies, when putting together a 3D movie, are just putting another copy of the movie, just slightly moved to the left or right. Which causes the 'in-depth' look of a 3D movie.

After reading many of the recent reviews, I have noticed that the Evo records video in SBS (side by side) 3D. So I have a pretty good hope that my collection of 3D mkvs can be converted and will be watchable in 3d.
So will RealD movies be able to be watched in 3D on the phone? I see that RealD is based on SBS, but it's meant to be seen with glasses. Also, does anyone know if the IMAX 3D videos would be playable?
I'm not even going to attempt to make an assumption about this, because I have no idea about whether it will work or not.
The stereoscopic RealD Format is a patented version of a side-by-side 3D formatting technology.

Real D is meant to be seen with glasses because of the screen you're viewing it on. There is a reason we only have glasses free 3d on small devices. So far for glasses free you have a limited viewing angle and range. For the time being you can't pull this off at the scale of a theater let alone an IMAX. Intel had showcased a glasses free 3d tv that was around 37" at a CES a few years back. While it worked the viewing angles were poor for a television http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/10/intel-shows-off-glasses-free-3d-demo-now-this-is-more-like-it/.
Anyway 3D isn't shot in too many different ways. The biggest issue is what format your TV has to output the 3D to match the glasses. In the PS3 you don't have to make sure your 3D is recorded a certain way, you just have to make sure you choose an output format on your PS3 that matches what your TV uses. It should be the same here on the Evo 3D, except the Evo has one screen so it knows how to display the images for that screen. The basic principle behind 3D is you're showing two different images at the same time, one for your right eye and one for your left to trick you into seeing depth.
Uhh, thanks?
My question wasn't about how RealD or IMAX 3D work... but rather if we would be able to view those types on our devices with glasses-less.
I'm not worried about viewing them on my TV, because I have a 3D TV already, so I'm just asking about the videos on our phones.
If not, then we will be EXTREMELY limited it what we can view in 3D (other than our own recordings), as far as movies go.
So, does anyone know if we can use either of those two formats on our phones, or is this something that we'll just have to wait for the phones so we can actually test it?

Seeing as the 3D content is fully supported by the hardware and display I don't see why a stereoscopic player can't be coded. That's to say that this device will not support these formats natively. The most common are .m2ts & .mkv, they do weigh in pretty hefty with a 1080p movie averaging about 10gb (Avatar is like 16) It seems to me that the standard 3D format for the phone would be SBS since it has the SBS camera. With that being the case we can naturally assume that it will process these videos much in the same way your current 3D tv does (merging two images)

This is a perfect example of how the 3D in question is achieved. STEREOSCOPE means dual vision, meaning a different image is sent to each eye. Meaning two images spaced appart like your own eyes. The director of "House of Wax" 1953 (Vincent Price) had trouble when shooting the film because he only had one good eye and could not see the effects properly.

I think we will have to wait. But I should have an answer for you by the end of the day on Friday, cuz I will have a 3d converted MKV all ready to go.
Outcome
It is simple, MKV is not supported on the Evo3D. You need to convert it to mp4 format to be played.
When the movie starts it is being seen as Side By Side (2 images). Then simply hit Menue button (the one that looks like 3 lines) and then select view in 3D and it works great.
Now the question is when converting what is the correct format to convert it to (resolution for 3D). Over the next few weeks I am going to try the settings and see what is best, so far I used the regular conversion from one to one, just the format and it plays fine.

So i chose the evo3d over the optimus... Welcome me:D

Welcome me to your darkside.
I followed this forum for a month now, but still like to have advice since i never used android before...have some questions as well...
I will probaly get a locked device, meaning no root...
Is it still possible to overclock to 1.8ghz this way?
Secondly, i love to play simple games on the go. Like angry birds, cut the rope ect...do they play well without glitches? Just simply install from market? It supports the resolution?
Secondly, what about other games?
And how well do you estimate i can play n64 games on a 1.2ghz and on a 1.8ghz? Will the dual core help or will it not be used because ive read somewhere gingerbread doesnt support dual core or something?
And nds emulator?
Are these still developed or "done" / "finished" ? Also curious about dreamcast...
And what about 3d development, are there 3d shells/launchers in development? And what about the 3d launcher of the optimus3d? Id love that on my evo3d...Is it already a WIP?
And lastly, do some roms already managed to fix some problems like the camera freezes, and have a better 3d photo viewer?(i dont wanna swipe 2d photos and then see the 3d effect kick in after 1 second)
And domt forgot some personal advice of apps, launchers, games ect. Im a eye candy loves, if it doesnt suck to much battery and performance. A bit is okay
Thanks
welcome to the evo 3d!
tl;dr the rest but i hope it works out for you
Welcome to the forums, and congratulations on your first android device, about the 3D pictures kicking in 3D after one second is normal, is because the screen have to get started, angry birds and cut the rope work fine and full screen on the phone without a problems, you won't need to overclocked for those they actually made for lower specs phone so they should work great, about the n64 emulator I think there on getjar or another market since google took them out of the regular market, and they work normal on the OG evo without overclocked so im guessing they will work fine on the evo 3d, besides that there is no way to overclock without root, root actually is not hard and you will get more eye candy the way, I just to have camera freezer for like 2 weeks, specially the second week that I went on vacation and i was taking a lot pics but i guess the phone got stable and i don't see them anymore, try to read a lot in general and q&a forums and you will learn alot about the evo and android as well, I hope this info helps
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Thanks...but is the 3d effect kicking in really normal?

[Q] Remove 3D from video to watch on non 3D TV

The phone has a "remove 3D" feature for photos but not for movies. The only way I know how to do this for video is to upload to youtube and watch online since it lets you remove the 3D off of videos. But how can you remove already recorded videos in 3D to play in 2D? Maybe there is a but what am I missing. And before you bash me, I have done a search everywhere on this topic and I cannot find the answer.
Thank you.

Well you see, I recently took a trip to Mexico (various places) and I could not help taking 3D video of various natural places I went (ie water falls, huge rocks, canyons things of that nature) But now that I am home, I would like to convert that video back to 2D for playback on my non 3D tv to show the family. There is no feature on the phone to convert the 3D video to 2D like with the pictures. Right now my only option is to upload the video to Youtube and play it from there because youtube gives you the option of taking the 3D off. When I play the 3D video off my PS3 or from the EVO 3D streaming feature, you see both left and right video. Makes it hard to watch.

[Q] quality over quantity HTC EVO 3D screen

heres the math, and ive looked though the threads and to no avail, lets say i have a 3d blueray rip 1080p mp4 sterieoscopic file that is 13gigs. looks great on a 60 inch HD-3d plasma screeen but i dont have one. i wanna scale it down to fit on a 4.3 inch 540x960 3vo screen. what is the way to go about this? best resolution (in 3d) in a itty bitty living space. ive watched movies in 2d that were mp4 and only 400mb and were stunning. and ive watched avatar in 3d that was almost 2 gigs and it blew me away. but does it really need to be that big to get the most bang for my buck.
Second Question, The largest micro sd card the phone can handle, and where can i pay the least for it. thanks
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

To my understanding mp4's are best because of the way they compress the data, I have found a lot useful threads that got to the conclusion no one agrees there is no right answer , and it is just a matter of preference. My question was more technically speaking for the point of saving space without sacrificing resolution.
I've converted part of my copy of a certain 3D Blu-Ray from the 10GB MKV that I use on my 3D monitor to an 84MB MP4 sample using handbrake. I suggest converting a shorter sample to test your handbrake settings before going the distance on the whole file, and testing how it runs on your EVO 3D before as well. My sample was missing audio on the EVO but not the PC. PM me for more info.
