I haven't seen this question asked yet, and I feel like it's the elephant in the room here. what are the different "boot modes" you can select when booting into the bootloader menu, and what do they do? surely someone has some documentation. Some of them, from their title, seem very interesting, and makes me consider the development potential of this phone, and possible moving over to it from my epic.
Any insight would be great!
Bumpity bump
Surely someone has some knowledge about this or has played around with them. Cmon, xda'ers...

I would like to know this also. Specificlly if I can do a factory reset from there incase I put the Phone into another Bootloop. I put it in a Bootloop this afternoon, luckly pulling the battery fixed it, but wondering if what my saftey net is.
I would Imagine that fast boot might work if I had the right file on my SD

I am looking at either attempting the making of a root app or just flat out extending the vibrate when a call or txt comes in. Question is where would that file be? And yes I am going to dive right in! I have yet to grasp the file layout and have relied on other apps to do stuff for me. I figure the worst I can do is brick my tb....j/k. I will never say you can fully brick an android phone. I just wanna go further now because of the lack of customization to the vibration setting. Thanks!

I guess there is no set place for the vibration length in a file? I really don't want a different rom. Just want to get a place to start. Yes I know absolutely nothing about the android file structure, but hey if I brick it then I but a new one til I figure it out. I just can't seem to find one answer to this. Anyone? And yes I did use the search. XDA premium app just sends back everything but what I ask.

Even if you have no coding experience at all, you can help. Testing is the easiest way to help. There are millions of lines of code and ways to set up these phones. Testing is the most important part of the development process. Without testers bugs will roam free. There are two separate major test categories, kernels and roms. Then minor testing such as mods/themes/etc. Kernels are the brains of the phone. Roms is the body. Both need to be tested and both need to be improved. When you test please do more than just quadrant. Make specific repeatable comments that will help some one fix the issue. Thanks and happy testing

I think he is refering to sending you money to buy a phone strictly for testing.... so you dont brick yours
Oh well i dont mind. Its almost impossible to brick this phone. As long as you dont play with bad bootloaders(*cough yay4juggs *cough).

I do have a project i want tested. On the razr forum there is a project call debtop. Can someone flash my newest hardvfp kernel and test debtop on the photon. I believe i got the kernel to support it.
Edit gentop not debtop
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Ok - I'd love to help, but I'm not sure what your kernel is or the gentop is? I've rooted my phone, messed with a few simple things here and there, but other than that - I'm still learning. I did install a custom ROM on my old Hero, but I haven't messed with the Photon.
I do have time though - I work a lot of night shifts and if shown how to do something, I learn it quickly! If I can be any help, message me and I'll do what I can to help out!
I gotcha bubb. I'm in a 4G area if you you are still working on the bootloader
Hell I will even let you remote control my computer. Just don't go into the folder that says mmmm lol
No need. I actually know how to install a 64 bit operating system. Lol. Im slowly working on it. Its not a bootloader problem. Motorolas official engineering phones with real unlocked factory bootloaders dont have 4g. So obviously we gotta look elsewhere. Its possibly recovery related or some form of security check. Once we find exactly what it we can fix it. The best way is to dd everything. Like dd / lol. Once with stock, then after unlock only then recovey change. Once all three is pulled. Someone needs to run a diff, or physically cross check everything, eek. Once the culprit is found we will squash it. so obviously you can see this will be time consuming. Way more time then I ever get. I would have to take a vacation just to get that kind of time. I can do the squashing after the fact but atm im stuck trying to blindly fix it

Okay this is to everyone wanting to help. Find me cool patches. Remember your looking for arm no neon stuff the kernel is 2.6.32.9(kinda). I might update to .50 if I can ever find those patches. Most stuff I can manually patch and do, but 2.6.32.* patches are huge and I need .patch's to do that. If you find kernels from other phones with cool stuff please make sure they actually post source. A bfs 400+ patch for 2.6.32.9 would be awesome, so would proper autogroups. Post findings here.
Thanks and happy hunting

I'm not a programmer but I would like to help if I can. Picked up my MoPho 3 weeks ago, rooted it, and did a couple buildprop tweaks but nothing else. Haven't unlocked it yet, either. I would like to flash a different rom and/or kernel but want to do more reading first. I also need to get the right sbf and such, too. Currently system version 45.3.6.MB855.sprint.en.us; Android 2.3.4; Baseband N_01.28.07R; Webtop WT-1.2.0-160; Kernel [email protected] #2; Build 4.5.1A-1SUN-198.6

Not sure if I can say much on here but try to move the signal to Verizon.
I saw on the zumocast advert on the motorola website the photon was sporting the LTE icon. Maybe a minor error with one of the artists or maybe a hint...
So i have been looking but haven't found anything. does any body know of a way to turn on like a fast boot mode like the htc phones have on the photon? I love this phone but it takes so dang long to boot up. I think something like this would be great for this phone.

From what i understand both of those have broken 4g and i can't deal with that. i am just stock rooted with some various tweaks here and there, but there is no way to steal some files to help stock boot like that. I mean on the htc phones it is a check box in the settings menu. Sorry i am no good at coding and just have no time with work to really take on a project like this. If anybody knows of a way to do it, i would be willing to make a donation, but i need 4g to work.

Okay, we've got our bootloader unlocked, we're rooted, CWM, and custom rooms; where's the dual booting linux? I know we have that vpn stuff, but what about turning this beast into a computer. We could even get some of this hacking in on the go with backtrack. I may be wrong, but this is all possible, right? I'm a bit of a noob in dual booting on a tablet, so don't flame if I'm way off or something, but I think it would be neat... Thoughts, ideas, etc.... tell me what you think.
Edit: Or do we need nvflash unlocked?
Edit2: Okay guys, now we know (or at least I do) that Ubuntu is in progress. You can check it out over at www.androidroot.mobi. Soo.. Lets make this the discussion thread (Info, Q's, discussions, debates, etc... whatever...). Enjoy and I'll try to update with new info (feel free to give your insight)
I am sure you'll get flamed for posting in the wrong section but I am eagerly awaiting someone to get dual boot running.
My no development skills at all guess is nvflash is the problem.
We'll let someone who knows correct me though.

Ubuntu is being worked on for the TFP, similar to what it was for the TF (by the same developer)
Next time, please post in the proper section.
Thanks, and sorry. Mods, please move to proper section.

Anyone knows if there is already a public repository for the Ubuntu dualboot?
Would love to help out =]
Also is the same approach used as for the TF101 dualboot or is the partitioning different?
Keep up the great work so far guys!
I hope to see dual boot with Ubuntu one day as it'll save me the trouble of keeping my netbook for days when I need to do MATLAB and other things exclusive to PCS. Would love to see an implementation where android is still kept in internal memory and Ubuntu is kept in the microsd/sd (not sure how performance would be if this was the case though)

Does anyone know if there is a public repository already for the TFP201? Maybe I can contribute =]
And do you guys know if someone else other than lilstevie is working on a dual boot solution?
Currently I'm a bit cautiousness about flashing due to the 'brick 2 option'

Is there a version of MATLAB that will run on an ARM architecture? I looked it up before I got my prime and came up empty. I would be very interested if you could share a link.
I have the most basic knowledge of rooting and have only done it on an Eris which had a 1-click method.
My i-717 came rooted.
I have now managed to temporarily bootloop my Note twice through Android Tuner Free so I promise once I fix this I'm deleting it.
Long story short waiting at the court house for 5 hours, began mindlessly clicking around the settings I (thought) I understood.
Now neither wifi nor data will connect to the internet longer than a couple minutes, usually at startup.
No idea how I did this and my assumptiom that there was a nandroid image was incorrect (I've made one now though).
I know I'm an idiot, please don't shame me

You should be able to uninstall the app and all the settings you tweeked resort to default.
I will try that and update on how it goes. Thanks!

Wow thank you so much that was super simple! Can't figure out how to thank on xda app but, you know.
Not that you necessarily know this but it didn't fix this thing where the phone repeatedly goes to the pass code lock screen whenever something's loading. Much more minor of a thing tho.
Oh, so many questions. Again not something you would necessarily know but is there any sort of resources to help me understand the rooting process more? I want to understand what kernals are and things like that. Thanks!

Read over that, and I'll explain the rooting process tomorrow when I have time. Unless someone else beats me to it.
This lock issue... when is it happening? What is loading that makes it pop-up?
