Hey everyone! I'm happy that I am all rooted and am testing out different roms...but I have one problem. My phone won't charge while it is powered off. It'll only charge when it is on. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm not positive, and am too tired to search for ya, but I'm pretty sure I recall someone saying that that was an issue with clockwork mod recovery...that it'll prevent the phone from being able to charge while it's powered down. Some sort of bug. Perhaps give TWRP a try, and see if you still have the issue. Good luck.

ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.5
If you are using ClockworkMod Recovery:
Download the ROM Manager application from market, and update your CWM Recovery through it.
The latest CWM Recovery version 4.0.1.5 will solve that problem.

What he said. Either get the newest version of CWM or TWRP and that will solve the problem, even though 4.0.1.4 looks cooler than 4.0.1.5
yup, this worked!!!! thanks guys!!!

Are there any clear benefits of one recovery over the other? I'm a fan of TeamWin but I'm comfortable with CWM... Is either recovery clearly superior?
Preference is the deciding factor.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
Not sure which one is better, but i've been using ClockworkMod 4.0.1.4 that came with Revolutionary S-OFF tool and it's worked flawlessly so far.
Do CWM work with Rom Manager
I personally like TWRP for the customization options plus the race horse is kinda cool too.
Nope...

Yes. I just updated to 4.0.1.5 with it today. Fixes charging bug while OFF with Fastboot off.

Yep, I was curious and used rom manager to flash the recovery... worked perfect. I enjoy being able to go into rom manager and select "reboot to recovery" instead of having to hold down button combination (i know, lazy).

You can just click on the first option in Rom Manager, which is "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". That's pretty much it.

I can confirm that 4.0.1.5 fixes the charging bug as well.
I'm a big fan of Rom Manager. I use it to organize my backups. I've used since day one of the OG Evo and never had a problem with it. If anyone is having any bugs, go into the market and download rom manager and update clockwork mod recovery. Mines working flawlessly!
I remember a long time ago, people claimed that clockwork recovery had a problem with wiping cache and dalvik cache. Is that still an issue? Thats the only reason I stopped using rom manager back in the day.

It did on the OG EVO, but so far on the EVO 3D I haven't had any problems.

there shouldnt be any issues when flashing the newest clockwork right? say, making a backup in the CWM that came with REVO and then trying to restore it with the newest clockwork? i feel like that is an issue simply because i made a backup of my stock rom with the newest recovery and i got the MD5 error, and i cant restore it. im doing a full backup and restore test right now, ill report back.
EDIT:alright so i was able to do a full restore with the newest clockwork. i guess i just got a bad NAND on my stock rom. and the funny thing is the same thing happend with a stock rom on my G2. what causes this damn MD5 error?
That would be appreciated by many here... Don't want to get stuck with no way to restore

I installed TWRP, but I'd like to be able to use the CWM Rom Manger. Can I download Rom Manager from the Market, and have it install CWM over my TWRP install?
I have hboot 1.5 and used fastboot to flash the clockworkmod 5.0.2.0. shooter image, but whenever I try to boot into recovery my phone sits at the HTC screen for a while then reboots into the OS. TWRP works fine, but I prefer CWM. Anyone else have his problem/ figure out how to fix it? I have also tried using rom manger to flash cwm, but the same thing happens.

Unless there have been some new developments, only older CWMR versions work on EVO3D. I use 4.0.1.4

Where are all the CWM defenders now?
*Anytime ANYONE has an issue with it, they scatter.
*Anytime ANYONE has something negative to say about it, they get all up in arms and butthurt trying to defend its effectiveness.
This OP has just provided another ^^^ post stating that it is, in fact, not working correctly...
Deja Vu all over again.
By the way, OP, you state that TWRP "works fine", but you "prefer" CWM...
(Why would you prefer something that doesn't work over something that has been proven to work time and time again?)
CWM hanging?
I've got another problem with CWM. Planning to install a custom ROM on a Blade and booted into CWM ( v5.0.2.0 ) and it looks OK, gives me the menu but if I select any option it just hangs at the "hat" image. If I press the phone's menu button I can get back to CWM menu and select another option with the same result but can't go anywhere else.
The phone will only boot into CWM and I can't access the phone via USB.
Is it bricked? Any ideas how I can get out of this?
Hi Everyone,
I just rooted my friend's Note and I'm attempting to flash the latest CM10 nightly. I'm using the CWM-based Touch Recovery v5.5.0.4. Every attempt to flash CM10 has lead to the (status 7) error, in which the assert has failed. I've attempted to remove the assert from the script and the installation is simply aborted in CWM. (I feel like doing this is more of a work-around then a fix though, since I'd potentially have to do it every time I flash a new CM rom). Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if there is a fix out there. I've done a good amount of searching and haven't found anything.
Thanks in advance.
Update.
Sounds like an outdated recovery to me

Thanks everyone. I actually tried using ROMManager and it wasn't flashing the update for me. Key part I didn't explain :-/ Anyhow, I found the newest CWM and flashed the .img through terminal. Problem solved.
Thanks!
I had problems with this too I had to download the twrp kernel and then it worked fine.

Last year over in the inspire threads,, we affectionately began to call it rom "mangler"..
Koush did okay, but the turning point for me, was buying the touch version, then trying to get the app to flash the recovery back to the device.
It shows the I717 as unsupported, yet the CWM website has it.
But every time I try to download it ...I get garbled jibberish..
Hence TWRP ...version 2.3.2.3...and it's flawless
I think koush likes the money..
He has never replied to one pm or email I've sent ....g
Have to agree that twrp is the awesome choice. I've had cwm fail more than once to restore for me. Twrp is faster and drains the battery less. And as a shameless self promotion .. My American twrp theme is so sexy .. You'll want to go into recovery everyday.

I do already ...LOL
I had some issues with various roms for unknown reasons, so I kept trying out new roms. Well the problem persisted, and as I was attempting to flash a new Rom, recovery just kind of failed. Whenever I attempt to enter recovery, a titled triangle with and exclamation mark and a droid figure pop up and I have to do a battery wipe. My phone still starts and runs, but I'm currently stuck on a problematic rom with no way of getting to recovery. I'm fairly new to all of this so I have no idea what's happening and I'm ultimately scared of attempting anything and messing up more. So any and all suggestions are beyond welcome.

So just install cwm multiple times..? Like install it, turn phone on, then install again if problem persists or isn't fixed immediately?
You're looking for some magical recipe that will 100% surely fix your phone. There isn't one. You will just have to play and be creative. You can report back here for more advice if needed.

Like what ravilov mentioned, its more of a trial and error process and not a 100% quick fix. Not having a computer will make things much more difficult.
I'm not looking for a magic easy route, (though it'd be nice if there was one), I'm just asking for literally any advice on the situation.
Use the android sdk 'fastboot' command to push recovery to the device via USB. This should solve your issue with a borked recovery partition.

No need for touch. If you ever damage your screen, touch recovery will make it impossible to use. Once you've flashed it with rom manager, you can download th3bill's recovery for Atrix and install over the top of it.

Whenever my phone dies, it boots to recovery or better known, cwm when I plug it in. Not sure why, I don't mind it. But I'm wondering why, I have the latest touch recovery from cwm. And I do want to switch to 4ext but I have a question.
1. Can it flash any rom that cwm can flash?
Thanks guys.

4ext can flash every rom that CWM can and then some.
The reason your phone turns on like that is because you are using CWM Recovery.
But I've used it before. It didn't used to do this until I flashed touch or because ics. I updated and rooted so not sure.
Is 4ext really worth it?
Is it really worth putting the effort into it?
I need to flash a radio and it says 4ext recommended.

It doesn't require much effort and is well worth it yes.
CWM is garbage and it is a bug in the Touch version that does it.
Has nothing to do with rooting the phone.
You never had CWM before you rooted and non touch versions didn't have the bug.
It's actually about as painless as can be to switch to 4ext and is miles better in every way.
Yes you need to flash new radios for the ICS roms.
Read the Op in my thread like I said in the PM and you will find it is all very simple to do and well worth the short time it takes to do. Or not.
Your call, but you have been told many times to ditch CWM and I pretty much require it or TWRP for my roms which are currently the only recent ones you will even find for the Bolt.
Install the free app I linked you before and flash the recovery, takes maybe 3 minutes.
Thank you. Your the only one who told me if it was better. I'm switching now. And true, don't think any Better roms are going to come out.
