A lot people have posted problems on this error and that error, where do I get this, how do I do that with it. I have compiled everything needed a one zip file for s-off, teamwin/clockwork recovery, and the root files. It containes everything needed for someone to root their EVO 3D. I too had trouble doing it through the different ways posted. The most fustrating part was going here, going there, download this and install these.
This zip containes everything you need. But you must do some reading to do it. With things like this I feel its important to know a little about what your doing.
This is everything i used to s-off, flash teamwin recovery, and root my phone. What really helped is reading on the XDA Developer forums. If you get stuck or run into a problem thats the place to go.
Before you start i suggest uninstalling all HTC related drivers, rebooting and installing the HTC Fastboot Driver included in the ZIP.
Contained in the zip file is everything you need to S-OFF (allowing ROM flashing), install Teamwin or clockwork recovery, and superuser/root your evo3d.
(-)How to guide.doc and The Complete Guide to Root EVO3D.pdf ---the "how to guide" i created is a simplified guide of how to do it between the PDF and Clark44s post in the XDA forums that worked for me. (should read both and links provided)
(-)jxpiinstall.exe and jdk-7-windows-i586.exe ---Standalone Java and JAVA JDK installers required for Android SDK. Install the jxpiinstall.exe first, Then the JDK installer, then android-sdk last.
(-)installer_r12-windows.exe -The latest Android-SDK installer
(-)HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe - HTC Fastboot Driver for windows 7
(-)su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip - Superuser that you install through clockwork or teamwin recovery as a .zip to achieve root access to the phone.
(-)PG86IMG-twrp-shooter-1.0.2. zip - This is the Teamwin Recovery that will replace the stock HTC Recovery.
(-)recovery-twrp-shooter-1.0.2.img - The teamwin recovery image that will be flashed to the phone and replace the HTC recovery.
---The other recovery alternative is the clockwork recovery mod. I used the teamwin at first to install the root user hack, then used Rom Manager (search in market) to install clockwork which was origionally distributed with the S-OFF program.
(-)soff.zip - Contains Revolutionary's S-OFF hack. http://revolutionary.io/---When it asks to install clockwork mod say no and refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192245& highlight=flash+clockwork on how to flash the teamwin recovery which is needed to install the superuser/root zip file.

LOL maybe I should come up with a better title
Instead of 'root kit'., which I also thought as the hidden files that were reporting back to HTC or something...
Try using "Kit for Rooting" or "All-Inclusive rooting kit". Would definitely prevent a lot of unnecessary concern.

Finally got around to updating it. Thanks for the suggestions. Note to self; remove head from sphincter then post...
It's been a few days now so I figured Id give an update.
I flashed viperROM RC1.3, its stable, its awesome. It uses a little less RAM and I get a little bit more battery out of it. He has added a screenshot tool, a tethering tool wich is very handy at times, and various moss and tweaks. Very awesome dude thank you!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192628
Along with that I installed the silverneedle test 5 kernal which claims to allow a 1.7GHz overlock. On my evo 3d I'm at a fully stable 1728MHz/1.73GHz overlock. Played both nova 3d and gt racing 3d for 2 hours a peice, no crashing, freezing or studdering. The phone did get rather warm so i removed my otter box to help cool the phone, which cooled it down a bit.

I also installed Sweet viperROM Gingerbread Theme V4 by Vinchenzop. I love it.

My only issue is I can't seem to figure out why Verizon can't authenticate my phone roaming. I have been meaning to call sprint but 90% of my free time is at work. If that makes sense...

In that package there is everything you need to do it.

Look in the market for ROM manager. I just remembered I used that to install the clockwork, I didn't flash it.
Edit: you must be rooted though

Got my e3d and loving it. managed to use the phone for nearly an hour before discovering that I am no longer satisfied with an unrooted phone lol.
Anyway got root and clockwordmod installed via revolutionary but when I try to use rom manager it tells me I need to flash clockword mod .
when I try to do it through rom manager the phone just siezes up and I have to remove the battery and do a nandroid restore to get the phone to be able to boot again. Not great as removing the battery cover on the E3d is a pretty nerve racking process and feels like too many times and it will break.
Does anyone know what I can do to get rom manager working please.

Had the same problem unfortunately I had no backup
Rom Manager has no GSM Evo 3D. It contains so far only CDMA EVO 3D.

ROM manager doesn't work even after u hv revolutionary recovery installed because It's dependent on clockworkmod recovery, however, u cannot install clockworkmod recovery on the gsm EVO 3d, so ROM manager is essentially useless for now on EVO 3d, correct me if I'm wrong

I'm a little lost. Let me explain what just happened.
1st 3D was having reboots randomly and BSOD.. so I replaced it.
Picked up new 3D today.
It's Hboot 1.50.000 (oh noez)
I unlock via HTC method
(( Now with HTC's method it's my understanding that you can flash a custom recovery and roms, but you're locked on the Kernel that came with your phone and thus no aosp roms/kernels OR if you're trying to flash a sense rom but the rom has a higher kernel than the one on your phone - you're still up the creek))
After unlocking with HTC's method I promptly went into TWRP, wiped everything without a nand backup because if it screws up i'm using my upgrade lol. I then flashed Eternity 3.0 R39.. to my surprise it worked fine. I didn't test if I could OC.
I then rebooted into recovery through power button and then installed the current miui rom, immediately followed by the Anthrax AOSP kernel.. to my surprise I got no errors of any sort, booted up fast as hell, restored SetCPU and Oc'd to 1.8 just fine.. been going for about 15-20 minutes now just like normal.
I THOUGHT I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS GUYS

I bet you got a refurb that someone previously rooted. If they used revolutionary then you retain S-off even on hboot 1.50 when the refurb facility repaired the device. Why don't you check if you're S-off?
It was S-On. That was the first thing I checked while walking out of the store. S-On 1.50.000
How strange. Hopefully people will keep coming to the thread and ask the right question. With the right question, the right answer will come to shed some light on what is special about your scenario.
Unfortunately that will not be me, because I have hboot 1.4, thus have less knowledge on the HTC unlock method.
Hopefully this has happened to someone else. I'm not sure why it happened. :O

umm i have hboot 1.50 unlocked htc method and i can flash any rom or kernal i want by just booting into recovery through fastboot its an extra step that takes about 10 seconds with a copy and paste of 2 commands from dos prompt
Yeah, I'm not sure why there's this myth that you can't flash kernels with 1.5, just need to load recovery in fastboot. Only limit I know of for 1.5 is that I can't use boot manager (if I'm wrong, let me know because I would love to use it). Either way, doesn't sound like OP was flashing through fastboot, which is odd.

Sounds like after unlocking with htc method you never disconnected your phone from PC and directly booted recovery from fastboot when you flashed TWRP .
So there's nothing new, i guess.
Every hboot1.50 user can flash kernels whether it is sense kernel or AOSP......
You can also use Flash image GUI to flash custom kernels from within the running android environment too.
So far JUST using HTC's unlock method I'm able to do the following
Flash custom roms through recovery like normal
Flash custom kernels through recovery like normal
Perform Nandroid backups/restores of EVERYTHING
UNABLE TO FLASH A CUSTOM SPLASH SCREEN
I thought this was going to be horrible going from a 1.40.000 device to 1.50.000 but honestly it's exactly like when I used Revolutionary to unlock my 1.40.000 device. And yes - I did leave my USB cable hooked up from start to finish. Hopefully other people will see this thread.
I tried Flash GUI and I couldn't get it to work for me so I guess I'm grateful. I'll check if I can install a splash screen once I post this and edit with the update.

You can flash kernels through fastboot. But you stated that you booted into recovery using power button, so it doesn't sound like you used fastboot....
You didn't use the flashimage GUI app, did you?
Sounds strange to me. Did you check the kernel In settings after you flashed? Don't think Its possible for stock kernel to support miui, but I suppose its possible.
Either way, you had something happen that shouldn't have. Either got a kernel to flash in a way that it shouldn't have, or got a rom to run on a kernel that shouldn't be compatible.
Another possible thing....I wonder if the 2.08.651.3 update did something that allows for you to flash kernels now. We know it wasn't possible on the .2 software, has anyone tried it with. 3. Doubt it made a difference as it was supposed to be a security update only.
Who knows. Ill give it a shot tomorrow to see if I can flash kernels without fastboot or flashimage GUI.

If you can flash a splash or radio then you should seek out a dev and let them know. They would probably have you do some tests. Might help achieve s off on 1.50

I tried it but when I booted into miui I got stuck at the boot screen. Miui boots in about 30 seconds or so on a fresh install but I was there for over 10 minutes.
Right now my phone is flashing Eternity 3.0 - R39 followed by Anthrax kernel. I'll let you guys know in a sec.
Edit: Well, the kernel flashed successfully but I'm freezing in the middle of the boot screen. Gonna try another kernel
Okay while booting Eternity 3.0 R39 I froze up mid boot screen. I remembered seeing a post about it freezing and I found it here and did what he said to do and it all works fine now. This is after I flashed rom+kernel in recovery then rebooted.

I'm unable to flash a splash, and I've never flashed a radio before.
But as of right now I can flash kernels/recoveries/roms from TWRP. I'll try flashing a bootscreen with Rom Toolbox real quick just for extra measure.
Edit: can flash custom boot screens. One thing I cant seem to do though is take screenshots with screenshot it. When it saves it's always corrupted and wont let me transfer the screenshot to anything.
From what I gather, the questions you have answered still haven't shed any light as to whether your phone is behaving in a matter that is the same anyone else in your situation would experience? If it is still in fact behaving different than what we would expect it to I think the suggestion given to you to contact a Dev would be best. You may end up and be able to help the community achieve a more comprehensive solution to the root process.

could it be possible htc updated their unlock process to allow access to the boot.img without using fastboot?
ok. so I finally got around to trying to flash a kernel without using fastboot to see if it would work.
It did not. Like others have reported, it will say that the flash is successful, but when I go into the "about phone" menu, it did not change.
I have CM7 (secretpartymeow) on it now with stock (as in whatever kernel came with the ROM) kernel. Tried flashing infected Anthrax (aosp). No luck.
It is indeed looking more and more like your phone is a bit of an anomoly. I would suggest contacting one of the devs over at TeamWin to let them know what you are able to do.
This is my first HTC rooted device. I had ****ty Moto's before. Anyways, there hasn't been much talk of anyone using Rom Manager. I am assuming that since we don't have an official CWM that we can't use Rom Manager. Once we have the official from Koush will Rom manager be compatible with the Rezound? Or does everything have to be flashed in fastboot/etc until S-Off?
*bump*...interested since this is my first HTC
You can "use" Rom Manager all you want. It's not going to do a bloody good lot of good though lol. I have it installed just to do my reboots for me and occasionally fix permissions when I blow stuff up. Any of the ROM tools probably won't work. Once Koush / Team CWM update ROM Manager update it to an official version then everything should be as it was on other phones.
Yeah, it'll require an official CWR and maybe an update to ROM Manager to support it. There's a build of CWR out there for the phone now but it's not an official build by Koush so I'm guessing that's why it's not integrating with ROM Manager.
I just hit him up on G+ about this yesterday actually. Awaiting reply.
Any news on this yet? Wouldn't this be a issue since most of us aren't using clockwork recoveries?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
I installed and subsequently removed ROM Manager from my Rezound. I had the pro version running on my Incredible, and that made sense because the recovery was ClockworkMod. There hasn't been any activity indicating that CWM will be rendered functional on the Rezound, and I run RA Vigor now which is rock solid, and doesn't interact with ROM Manager, so why waste the space? It doesn't do anything for me.
I may be wrong but I thought we couldn't use CWM on the Rezound because we didn't have S-Off? So we can't write to the recovery partition while in the OS?

NINO-BOOT VIDEO IN POST 2
First things first
S-off and Root required
"At the moment" Aroma scripted Roms and Kernels are not yet compatible on slot 2+, unless restoring from a Nand backup, which is pre configured
:victory: Good luck, and enjoy :victory:
STEPS ON HOW TO DO IT
1. ensure your happy with the current state of your main/daily rom
2. NAND - back it up
3. download, install and configure either the free boot manager lite app or the pro version
4. NAND - back it up (not necessary, but advised)
5. download your scondary rom zip
6. open your downloaded bootloader app and slide accross to slot 1
7. install your chosen rom (do not wipe anything on first install)
DO NOT BOOT SECONDARY ROM
8. NAND - back it up, again (if your low on sd space, delete your earliest nand, and then next etc etc)
9. open boot manager when booted, and slide to slot 1, and boot rom
10. "Ta da". your now dual booting,
11, repeat these steps for further slots for tri/quad/etc booting
Tips
DO NOT RUN V6 SUPERCHARGER OR SIMILAR SCRIPTS ON ANY ROM OTHER THAN PHONE ROM, YOU WILL GET STUCK IN A BOOT LOOP
DO NOT SET UP PHONE ROM WHILE BOOTED TO A SLOT ROM
revert hboot

HBOOT
after a major error recently I' found that for some reason I was struggling to even dual/tri/quad boot, after reverting to stock ics and updating my hboot to 1.49.0053 , I managed to find a patch to revert my hboot back to its original 1.49.0007 , il attach below, I recommend everyone flash this GO USE THE GUIDE HERE , all you do is place on root of your sd card (GSM USERS ONLY AS FAR IS I'M AWARE (CDMA TESTING APPRECIATED)), Then boot into bootloader and select yes when it reads the PG86IMG, I found after going back to this hboot , bootmanager was then able to edit boot.IMG correctly again
(added ALL CID'S to the pg86img.zip android text folder)
WILL WORK FOR EVERYONE
AROMA ROMS / KERNELS
Some people are having issues with certain roms/aroma scripted roms, the best way around it is to set up all roms on phone Rom slot (main) then back up, restore your original Rom to main, boot it, then in boot manager . Restore nands of other set up roms to other slots
SWITCHING ROMS
Ensure all roms you want to boot into and out of, are Gapps (google apps) installed, ensure you have set up phone in bootmanager while booted to your phone Rom, and that you have opened boot manager in your slot rom(s) at least once so bootmanager app can download files needed and to write folders to sd
BOOT IMG
If you find that your bootmanager can't create boot.IMG (not edit), navigate to the bootmanager folder on your sd, find the boot.img file in the slot your trying to install on, delete it, then restart bootmanager , and it should create it without problems,
IF NOT,
Try putting boot.img in the rom1/rom2/whateverslot you are using n the bootmanager folder on the sd card, then try just installing a different kernel to overwrite it, so it fixes it. thanks to meangrenie or making this common knowledge
if you ever run into problems, pull the battery, boot to hboot, select recovery, and flash the update.zip inside the phoneRom directory. It writes your backed up boot image. thanks too $MyName for making this common knowledge
BUGS
(currently)
When booted to a jellybean Rom there is a charging/battery reading issue and in some cases data drop/connection problems

ok i'm maybe having a slow moment. are there any stock unrooted rom zips that are compatible with this app.
because i couldn't find any stock unrooted rom zips.
or is it possible to dowload an ruu exe, and rename it to ruu zip
gingerbread preferred
No, the app requires root to work.
So, if you install any unrooted Rom in a slot , you will not be able to boot back to phone Rom. Your phone Rom needs to be rooted to install any other Rom on a slot.

Sounds great! i will surely try this out.
No more endless recovery circles like wipe cache/dalvik, install from zip blah blah restore etc.
Could be very practical.
Is it reliable once its up and runnig?

Are you sure your second Rom is a complete version ? Bootable normally as a main Rom ? If it is. Restore from your most recent back up and try again, bit give your dalvik cache a wipe , once you have restored your back up and before trying again
flash the zip located in bootmanager/phonerom....in recovery and you should be able to boot your phone Rom just fine.
Thanks for the help guys.
It works
Thanks 4 the guide!
Works as it is declared. I installed the free app and installed a ROM to slot1.
Unfortunately the app needs constant internet connection? Well i had a situation where the installed rom had a Wi-fi issue and I coludn't start the app and boot back to my phone ROM. That's a bit of a shortcoming. Or it may be that I don't see all the issues straight (why there has to be an internet connection at all for the app to do its thing)
One more thing... the installed ROM had taken 2GB of space on my SDCARD. And a 4ext recovery backup takes up to 1GB max.

If you read the guide again, I tell you to nand back up at each step, and give information on how to keep both roms safe and working and if neccessary, delete a back up before making a new ,one also I use a 32gb sd, and I use 4 ext, latest, and I've never had a problem backing up, its also such a big back up, because it backs up, both roms , every back up. Try re reading the guide and starting again with your daily Rom
if you are connected to internet/wifi it will take time to start , if you turn them off, it will start quickly....

Just to be clear, is this simply a guide to set up Boot Manager or will this setup give me a bona fide dual booting machine?
