[Q] installing jt's vanilla gb v4(no sd card) - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im trying to update to newest version but my sd card is fried was wondering if this method will work, i really dont have the cash for a sd card at the moment xD, i really wasnt sure if been on a mtd rom would be a problem
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-a-rom-to-an-android-phone-device-without-sd-card/

i know you said no cash but like a 2gb one is less than $10.
Otherwise i think you are SOL till you get a replacement

[Q] Phone Storage and SD card won't mount (says "Unavailable")

I recently rooted and installed Bionix V 1.2.1, and it works fine with the 2Gb SD card that came with the Vibrant. However, whenever I put either one of my 2 Transcend 8GB cards (both formatted to FAT32) into it, neither the internal storage nor the SD cards will mount. The phone still boots properly, but in settings they both show up as "Unavailable".
I have searched the boards and haven't found a fix for this particular issue. Could it be the brand of the SD cards that's causing the issue?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I tried that but it didn't fix the issue
I seem to be having the same issue, any help would be appreciated =)
Bionix 1.2.1 has numerous issues. Im a nero fan. But bio1.2.1 was not good
I couldnt download anything from xda.
Now on 2.2.1 stock rom from einherjar dev team.
It is the best rom out. Period. And few have tried it.
So get goin. U wont be sorry.

Retried Voodoo kernel, still no effect.
Look at q&a its all bionix problems right now. 1.2.1 has clear problems right now.

ya, reinstalling didn't work for me either. I was really liking Bionix, but maybe I'll try another rom.
@torturedsoul: did you try booting without a microsd card? Mine only works when i boot with no card or with a Sandisk 2GB Class 2 microsd. Neither of my 2 Transcend 8gb Class 6 cards work, so I'm thinking the rom just might not like those cards.
@Mr Orange: If I was going to switch roms, should i just disable voodoo lagfix and then install a new rom from recovery or is there another step? (sorry for the noob question). Also, is mobile AP working for you in the einherjar rom?

thanks Mr. Orange, i'm gonna check out that rom
So I tried that other rom, but it's still not mounting the 8gb cards. So now I'm thinking it's gotta have somthing to do with these SD cards.

False, it does work.
It appears there is more than one cause for this, and more than one solution as well. I removed my micro sd card and now my internal is working fine. I would like to figure out what do do about the external slot not working though...

[Solved] External SD not working?

I have inserted my sd card from another phone. It is 2GB. I formatted it to FAT32, still cant see on the phone ie on doing a mount I get only one card drive..other one is missing. Any ideas anyone?
well once it happened to me then I realized I didn't put micro SD right...lol...anyways so assuming u did everything right and still can't see micro sd and sd card and storage?...have you checked that card with another phone or MicroSD adapter....
I installed MIUI and stange external sd not working since last two updates.....
Also I installed Bali kernel over it....
Any help ?
Nobody mentioned what ROM you were besides last poster but I believe if you are still on gingerbread bootloaders than you won't be able to see external SD. Just my $.02

If you're on gb bootloaders + anything CM7 based, not external sdcard for you until you go back to froyo bootloaders.

[Q] Had my sd card fried and now can't install roms on new one

so i had my sd card fried while on miui 8.22 and was just putting up with it until i got around to buying a new one. i bought another one and now i can't change my rom. i downloaded the rom and when i try to flash it using rom manager it times out trying to mount the card. and when i try to manually flash it, it wont mount sd card so i cant even get to it
is there anything i need to do differently to fix the problem? or maybe this is miui's plan to not let you switch from it haha
you need to odin back to stock w/ pit file, makes sure repartition is checked. then flash miui.

Most likely it's the sd card, it's not going to work at all. I had to go and buy another one (3rd one).

Mtd roms sometimes don't get along with some SD cards. You can try formatting in cwm. If you have a spare card try formatting and using that one.
Always use proper mounting, un mounting methods.
PWGB,TKSGB10-14, adren shot xix, honeycomb2.03, ec09 radio.

Mine is doing the same thing.
ok so in simple words i should...?
when you're formatting are you doing a full erase or a quick format?
you might try a full erase, check for bad sectors and what not, use easeus partiton manager, or gparted, of the sd card formatter.
Miui ate my samsung card about a month ago and it was unrecoverable.
What brand of sd card are you having problems with? stock samsung, sandisk , or kingston?
The samsung cards are known to be shotty to begin with.

my fascinate came with a san disk?
I have a 32gb San disk speed 4 that gets corrupted by the end of the day (works fine on touch wiz base roms). My Samsung 16gb micro sd seems to be the running fine on MIUI and CM7, never had a problem with it so I doubt its the brand

Got a question, is it the kernel that's causing this? Been using jt's kernel cause its the most stable, can anyone verify that's using any other kernels.

What kind of error notifications did you guys get?
If you got one saying something like bad sd card
All you need to do is unmount it, and remove it off the phone
Then reboot, and pop it back in

How did you format yours? Through the phone or using the computer? Damn formatting through the computer takes 30 min for me. I have not tried formatting through the phone yet cause I heard its one of the guarantees of frying the sd cards on EC09 days, not sure if this roms frying abilities is the same.
Btw it seem to only damage my 32GB San disk, my stock Samsung sd card is surviving MTD roms

roms and 64gb sd card

is there any rom that will not mess up my 64gb micro sd card that i have in my note2. i have had them get corupted on my s3 before and dont want to have it happen again. thanks for the help
I'm using a Sandisk card no issues so far.. I did format the card from exfat to fat32 as some kernels don't support exFat.. Also AOSP Roms I believe would need fat32 (not sure if things changed since I last read )..
Take Note2 BK's here..

^yup what he said!

You won't screw it up.. Backup all files to computer.. And format away.. Then back onto sd card.. I did mine on Mac but Droidstyle has link on his informative thread..
Take Note2 BK's here..
I have sandisk ultra 64GB and i never had a problem with any custom rom.
The only thing, some apps from google play sees your SD card as 12gb (for example Airdroid)
