[Q] Clockworkmod stopped working HELP? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently running:
TNT Lite v4.4.0
Kernel version 2.6.32.9-00001-g6e47897-dirty
[email protected] #221
Build FRF91
I updated from stock to this using clockworkmod a few months ago. I was looking to install the latest version of Vegan from CW but it did not work. Did some searching earlier this evening and found out I had to update clockwork mod. Searched for about 2 hours and could find ZERO instructions on how to update from clockwork mod 2.5.1.8 to new CWmod v8. Finally came across a post that mentioned using an app called ROM Manager which would do it automatically, so I said cool and went for it.
Now I can't access CWmod at all
I hate to ask a newbie question but I can luckily still boot into TNT, but no clockworkmod. What do I need to do in what order so that CW can work again and then I can move on to VEgan (I'm looking for a more stable ROM and as told that would be a good bet) Thank you to anyone who could lend a hand. Been at it trying to read and fix on my own for a few hours now. I even tried looking at this site but again, do not know what to do in what order to fix (http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/rom.htm)
I hope this all made sense. Take care.
Oh, also, when I searched here I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1023164
but did not find it applied completely to me. Thanks again.

There may be simpler ways to solve your problem, but at the very least you can nvflash back to stock with clockworkmod 0.8 pre-installed. See this page:
http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/nvflash.htm. Go down to the section entitled 'NVFlash to Stock with CWM pre-installed'.
From there, you shouldn't have any problem getting Vegan Ginger Edition installed, or any other ROM for that matter.

[Q] Viewsonic Gtablet stuck on boot screen with 3 birds.

Hey guys i am new to this forum and am facing problem as below. Let me know if someone has experienced similar problem:
has anyone installed GingerBread rom: VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition STABLE RC1 posted by gozimi?
http://vegantab.gojimi.com/2011/04/11/vegan-tab-gingeredition-stable-rc1/#comment-591
I brought a new gtablet and updated the stock firmware on it.
then i installed VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition STABLE RC1. but its now stuck in boot screen with 3 birds and not moving forward. Clockworkmod did said that it installed the ROM successfully.
looks like something to do with boot loader..Tap n Tap guys have become smart enough and blocked boot loader for any other custom rom.
i got one post from gozimi:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036956
which says that they have locked boot loader on recent tnt roms. i think thats my case.
My questions:
1.) is there a way to bypass the boot loader?
2.) Did anyone has luck installing this ROM.
Thanks
Rohit
You need to nvflash. There at least 30 threads dedicated to this problem
you need to read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035983
and then will probably need to use nvflash and give the whole process another shot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012009
and someone with way more experience than me will probably come along soon and help.
nvflash has its own issues..i got stuck up while installing windows 7.0 drivers...someone pointed me to nvidia tegra website but couldnt found out drivers...
finally i downloaded Tap n Tap rom using clockworkmod recovery and it booted like charm..i am back to stock rom now.
but i need TnTlite or VEGAn. looks like the upgrade i did on stock rom modified the boot loader to prevent other kernels from being loaded at boot time.
Can you point me to some article that has steps to bypass this limitation. I already looked at:

Thanks a lot for your help.

[Q] Downgrading ClockWork recovery

I just purchased a 'used for 1 wk' gtab. It has the stock 3588 rom. The previous owner installed Clockwork mod v 2.5.1.8. I'm wanting to install Vegan 5.1.1. From what I've read CWM v.08 should be used for this which I believe is v2.5.1.1 bekit-.08. Is this correct? and if so how to I go about 'downgrading'? I've looked at the NVFlash threads but not sure if that's the route I'd need to take. I've also seen that other android devices have a 'clockwork rom manager' that allows the selection of CWM versions. Thanks for any help you can give. As you can tell I'm new to this.

The best way to do this is actually do the NVFlash (restore tablet to stock) and then installed CWM (bekit-.08) and then flash a custom rom on it.

[Q] i reading everything but lost! help! upgrading from TnT lite v2.2

hi guys, thanx in advance. i just bought a gtab off of a guy 2 days ago for $200 and it's basically brand spanking new. it has TNT lite 2.2.0 on it, which i gather is pretty old. when i go into the about tablet section it says the kernel version is 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirty and build number FRF91. it also has clockwork recovery v.2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8
I have been reading posts for 2 days and still can't find out if it is safe to flash other roms ( vegan )from this tnt 2.2 version. all is see is talk of a 4349 downgrade and references to tnt 4.1 and up.
I just don't want to brick this tablet!
i also have some other issues that could just be software related. it seems as if my sd card isn't being read properly. maybe i didn't need it but i tried to do the downgrade zip thinking maybe i was on 1.2 but either way clockwork would say it cant access the file or no such directory on my sd card existed. the thing is i'm happy it didn't install anything but still it wasnt readin my sd. It did say preparing sd when i inserted it so i know i sees it.
i also see that when i try to enter settings from the menu tab it does nothing at all and i have to access setting through the setting in the app drawer. is that
normal or could it indicate i got a bad tablet?
sorry if all these questions have been asked and answered allready but i've looked and couldn't find them. please help i want to put on vegan and enjoy this thing
thanx in advance
TNT Lite 2.2 would be 1.1, so you should have Clockwork installed. Follow the guide in the development forums about how to install a ROM, and you should be good to go with Vegan 5.1.1, Vegan Ginger, or CM7 (though you'll need to do the void.fstab change if you go with the last one).
thanx a lot man. now i'm on my way. i just didn't want to brick it with all the brick talk in the forum.

[q] g tablet stuck in clockworkmod

Hi,
i just got my G tablet recently and I decided to install Clockworkmod and TNT Lite.I followed instructions to install Clockworkmod using the a USB cable and it worked perfectly.I installed v3.0.2.8.Then, I downloaded TNTLite and moved the update.zip file to the root. When I did that, the only option to put it on the root was to replace the update.zip file from Clockworkmod with the new file from TNTLite.I went ahead and installed TNTLite and installed pefectly.I booted the tablet but it got stucked on the splash page with the Viewsonic logo.I don`t know what I did next but now every time i boot it goes straight into Clockwordmod.I reboot and doesd the same thing. When the splash page appears, in the top left corner it says:booting recovery kernel image.
Can anyone help me?
There are a couple of issues here.
First of all you need to determine which bootloader your gtab is on. There is a sticky which will help you with the whole bootloader issue. You are likely on 1.1, which is incompatible with the version of clockwork you loaded. You need clockwork .08 for the 1.1 bootloader. v3.0.2.8 only works with the 1.2 boot loader.
TNT lite has been retired, and although it is a solid ROM, it isn't being actively developed. The active "version" of TNT lite is hosted on slatedroid and is called Mountain Laurel (almost certain of the name, but I could be mixing them up). Both of those are based on the 1.2 bootloader.
Also TNT lite and Roebeet's other mods are typically installed via standard recovery rather than clockwork mod. This is at Roebeet's recommendation, and should have less rick of brickage.
Goodintention's site http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/ should get you up to speed.
Your best bet at the moment may be a full restore with nvflash, which you can read about on the site above. The site will also help clear up the 1.1 vs 1.2 issues.
Thank you very much for the post!
I will follow your instructions and I will post a message tonite with the results of my experiment
Wish me luck
Good luck. Be careful though, my instructions are only a quick guideline, be sure to stick to gtab for dummies site, or something like of these tutorials:

I`ve got it back to stock!!! Thank you!!
Now, I have to install a ROM on it. I will post back the results!
Thank you again! Any tips on getting a ROM installed?

You really need to go to my site gtab for dummies linked in my signature. There you will find step by step instructions on how to flash (install) a new rom. I hope you used the files provided on my site because the nvflash on my site came with cwm pre-installed. And on my site, you will also find a list of all available roms at this time. Just go there and see for yourself. Make sure you use the "start here" page.
If your on stock 3588 then this tutorial is a great reference guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
As for installing a ROM it's pretty straightforward and it doesn't sound like you'll have much trouble. Vegan Froyo and Vegan Gingerbread are great solid roms. There's a lot to try out so have fun.
Thank you very much for your help! I will work on this tomorrow and post the results!
Really appreciate your help! Thanks!

Just to add my two cents - it looks like you are mixing up 1.1 / 1.2 dev branch items (luckily you didn't soft-brick!).
TNT Lite is a 1.1 ROM (no longer being developed), but my 3.0.2.8 rev5 cwm is for the 1.2 bootloader, so they aren't compatible. Perhaps you used another 3.0.2.8 that's not mine?
"Mountain Laurel", over in Slatedroid, is he successor to TNT Lite. It's based off stock 4349, and it's 1.2 dev branch based.
As for the cwm reboot issue, did you try and wipe data in the UI, with cwm installed? If so, the "cwm forever reboot" is known to happen. The "fix" is to get standard recovery installed so that way the data wipe completes.

I too am stuck in CWM. I was on the 1.2 ROM branch, and was using the CWM v3.0.2.8 (1.2 branch). How did you get out of CWM? I'm guessing you had to do a nvflash - I've done that before, but how do you get to the APX screen? (if that's what you did).
Roebeet also said "As for the cwm reboot issue, did you try and wipe data in the UI, with cwm installed? If so, the "cwm forever reboot" is known to happen. The "fix" is to get standard recovery installed so that way the data wipe completes."
1) yes I did a wipe data using CWM but not sure what Roebeet meant by "UI (user interface), with cwm installed" - I'm not sure how else I could do a CWM data wipe using the UI?
Edit: got it. In the UI, sometimes under Security, you can do a factory/data wipe from there.
2) The "fix" " is to get standard recovery installed - what is the "standard recovery"? and more importantly, how do I install it?
Edit: Is the standard recovery - going back to the gtab stock (depending on what branch you are on)?

[Q] Rom manager on Android 2.1?

So, my wife just got her new vibrant. I rooted, and started going about getting a few useful apps...then discovered that apparently, on the stock Android 2.1, ROM Manager is no longer available. Mine, (2.2 custom ROM) shows it in the marked. On my wife's phone, though, there's only premium. Simple fact is, after just buying a couple hundred dollar phone, we can't afford a $10.00 app as well.
Anyone know of any place where I can get an older version of ROM Manager free, or even an Odin flashable CWM Recovery? Anything I can use to get her running a non-stock ROM?
Nevermind. I managed to copy the (2.2) app from my Ti backup onto her phone, and it's working like a charm...no clue why it's not available in the market, and appbrain said it wasn't compatible...
Should anyone else have the issue, if you can get it onto the phone, the newest ROM Manager works just fine on 2.1
You can pull the free version APK from data/app folder on your phone. Oops you already got it, sorry.

Same problem
I just rooted my phone and it automatically installed android 2.1 as the software on my phone, I cannot update my software through the phone as clockwork recovery blocks it.
I tried to install rom manager but it's giving me parse errors as its not compatible.
What can I do here guys?
HELP no rom manager
Rom maager is now only available for 2.2 and higher. I have been looking for an older version to no avail. Please if anyone knows of a way to do this let me know. I have tried to fastboot CWM recovery doing it everyway I could find and it doesn't do anything. I have the Huawei Ascend and no matter what try I can't get it to load Rom Manager or CWM recovery, hen I reboot it just goes to the android 2A screen with only 4 options...rebot...load from SD card (which does absolutely nothing)...wipe data..wipe cashe. I see all these posts about going from 2.1 to gingerbread 2.3.4 there must be a way, any help would be greatful. Thanks

would you mind uploading a copy of rom manager here or somewhere else? i have the same problem but i don't have a backup of the apk. I would greatly appreciate it!
I have the same problem, I switched from Gingerbread to android 2.1 (Heroine rom for HTC hero, excellent&superfast rom by the way!) and now I can't install Rom manager anymore, also can't recover it from Titaniumbackup(Parsing errors). In market I can only buy the premium, since I'm travelling and am on a low budget the price is too high for me at this moment. Hope anyone has a solution for this!
Has anyone found a solution yet? I'm having the same problem with my Hero. Downgraded it to 2.1 and now I can't install rom manager.
The only thing that comes to mind is go to 4shared.com and search for an older version of rom manager apk
cwm version?
I am in the same situation. Just flashed to JFD. I bought the paid version of Rom Manager from the market. But when I open it, it tells me that its just the license key and I need to install the free version for it to work. Of course I can't dl the free version.
I didn't see anything in the paid version description that said needed 2.2. I really think if the paid version can't be used on 2.1 it should not show up in market for me either. Spent 6 bucks for nothing.

Guys I had this problem too. Just go on 4shared.com and search rom manager apk. go through every file til you see one that was uploaded over a year ago. And make sure its the apk and not the premium licence. This apk should install on your phone. Good Luck!!
ROM Manager for 2.1 update1
What is the latest version of rom manager (free) B4 it went to 2.2 being the oldest that can be used?
You can download the update.zip from my signature and put it on your internal card labeled Update.zip. Boot into recovery and scroll down to Reinstall Packages. Hit it. It will cycle through and come back to the blue (stock) recovery. Scroll down to Reinstall Packages again and hit it again. The recovery will go from Stock (blue) to CWR (green). From there you can load up whatever ROM you have on your sd cards.
Far far easier than tring to find an old outdated ROMManager.apk

After a hellacious day trying to get my phone back working from a mother of all eff ups after trying to install CM9, I have been in the same position as others trying to get the phone rooted and a custom recovery installed.
I tried your update.zip and it doesn't work.
Any other ideas?
Are you on 2.1? It should work just fine. I think that there might be an issue with the Kies stock 2.2 where it may not work. Not sure since I have never even seen stock 2.2.
In fact I just used the update.zip last weekend to come off Zen and test a 2.2 I am working on. Where are you getting stuck at?
