from the other posts i've seen, the sideload error is given when the ROM is using an older depreciated scripting language called amend (update-script). the ROM needs to use the newer scripting language called edify (updater-script).
i personally haven't experienced this but i also havent tried loading any older amend coded ROMs.
you can view which scripting language the ROM .zip file you're using has by viewing which file is located in META-INF/com/google/android/ . if the file is update-script, its the older depreciated amend language. if the file is updater-script, it is the newer edify language.
hopefully that is the correct solution and works for you!
edit: did a bit more research and saw a thread semi dedicated to this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194245
seems it occurs not only from using the older depreciated scripting language amend, but using the newer edify scripting language, the update-binary file needs to be using api v3, which is the latest.
sorry the error in the recovery isn't more straight forward and helpful. hopefully this makes sense. essentially the developer needs to use the latest version of edify scripting in their ROM.

So would switching to another custom recovery work out this issue. Ive seen a lot of buzz that twrp is still kind of buggy. I love the way they have it srt up but i rooted to flash roms and if its the recovery preventing that ill switch.

i have been using twrp since release with very little issues...it is a very nice recovery.
are you downloading the roms from your phone or pc? i have had unsuccessful flashes when downloading rom from the phone.
i have flashed all synergy roms, virus, avalaunch and a few others with twrp with no problems.
let us know what you find.

Switched recovery and still nothing. This sucks i wanna flash the viper rom but this damn **** wont work. Anyone else have success in flashin viper rc1.3

Problem flashing any .zip with Clockwork...

I can't get ANYthing to install via clockwork, everything says can't open <insert file name>.zip, (bad), installation aborted. Uninstalled ROM Manager and reinstalled, etc... can't get anything to install. I apologize if this is a dumb question or if I'm overlooking something but any help would be appreciated, thanks.

How are you getting into clockwork? Try rom manager of you're not. Also try downloading the roms again
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It is ROM Manager, as stated in the OP, and it's not ROMs I'm trying to install, it's various .zips like the new Swype, original i900 Boot Animations, etc...
Oh I see, what rom are you currently running?
As for the swype, try and use a file manager to open the .zip and manually install it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Stock ROM, rooted and lag fixed. The swype isn't an APK.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
In rom manager, did you click "flash clockworkmod recovery"? If not thats what you need to do, select the vibrant option and your phone will reboot into clockwork. Search the forums here there is a good walk through of clockwork installation and usage
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It sounds like you're trying to flash from the stock recovery, not Clockwork. Make sure you click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" in ROM Manager and possibly "Reinstall Packages" if it still takes you to the stock recovery.
It was definitely from clockwork, but I got it. Apparently by coincidence, all four separate files I had tried to install had been corrupted somehow. Re-downloaded through Skyfire, re-flashed and all is well.

Galaxy tab sch1800 Rom

Question/direction...rooted my galaxy tab using superoneclick all went fine but when trying to install Rom from recovery only option in menu is 'install update.zip'. Not showing other roms I placed on sd card...any suggestions?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
It doesn't show the other roms since it is specifically searching for the file named "update.zip". If no file with that name is found, it will not show anything. Have you tried flashing a newer recovery?
I did try that...did same thing. Using Rom manager
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Have you tried renaming the rom file to "update.zip"?
Just thought of that right before you posted...ill try it when I go to lunch and let ya know if it worked

Renaming file didn't work either. Maybe ill try to dl another version and try that.

Hey guys, I just read your post, and would like to know where you found your roms. I was doing things very easily on my Galaxy Nexus, I got cocky and wanted to help my mom get her Sammy Galaxy Tab 7 sch-1800 running some ICS on it. Now I bricked it. I know enough to use Heimdall and the command line. The roms I have do not have PIT files or whatever Heimdall is asking for. So, I flashed a kernel from the command line in hopes I could get this thing rooted and then install clockworkmod. Well, I bricked it. Can one of you guys help me out and point my in the right direction. a forum or something which will help me get a rom flashed and up and running. I promise I have looked for two days straight at many threads. OneClick thing does not work. Also can't boot up now anyways, can only enter download mode and use heimdall. Also, I could only find two roms. And when I extract the files from the zip, I do not know which part to flash them to because they are not named as I expect them (except zImage is kernel).

UOT Theme Kitchen Problem

I have used UOT before on stock/rooted/bootstrap with success every time. Now that I'm finally unlocked on Joker/skinny with jokers CWM V3 I get installation aborted errors every time. I turned off CM theme previews and I've tried both edify and amend scripting. Any suggestions?

I assume you are using your framework from the current rom and not the stock one from before.
What error do you get? Have you imported the update-binary file from your current rom to the one UOT produced?
Use bootstrap to install UOT themes, they will fail with clockwork mod. You can have both bootstrap and cwm installed at the same time. And use amend scripting and turn off theme previews.

I have used CWM to install UOT package without any problems on stock rom. Had to lightly modify the package though.
Im using the framework.res and systemui for my current setup, so I know its not that. CWM says "can't open sd card/UOT 10283... installation aborted". I also unzipped the theme and inserted the update.binary from joker/skinny and then rezipped it. I did it using win.rar, so I may have done it wrong. Im not getting the status 0 error at all though.

It takes 2 seconds to install bootstrap recovery and you won't have any problems flashing UOT themes.

[Q] [HELP] assert error (status 7) in cwm when flashing cm10

Hi Everyone,
I just rooted my friend's Note and I'm attempting to flash the latest CM10 nightly. I'm using the CWM-based Touch Recovery v5.5.0.4. Every attempt to flash CM10 has lead to the (status 7) error, in which the assert has failed. I've attempted to remove the assert from the script and the installation is simply aborted in CWM. (I feel like doing this is more of a work-around then a fix though, since I'd potentially have to do it every time I flash a new CM rom). Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if there is a fix out there. I've done a good amount of searching and haven't found anything.
Thanks in advance.
Update.
Sounds like an outdated recovery to me

Thanks everyone. I actually tried using ROMManager and it wasn't flashing the update for me. Key part I didn't explain :-/ Anyhow, I found the newest CWM and flashed the .img through terminal. Problem solved.
Thanks!
I had problems with this too I had to download the twrp kernel and then it worked fine.

Last year over in the inspire threads,, we affectionately began to call it rom "mangler"..
Koush did okay, but the turning point for me, was buying the touch version, then trying to get the app to flash the recovery back to the device.
It shows the I717 as unsupported, yet the CWM website has it.
But every time I try to download it ...I get garbled jibberish..
Hence TWRP ...version 2.3.2.3...and it's flawless
I think koush likes the money..
He has never replied to one pm or email I've sent ....g
Have to agree that twrp is the awesome choice. I've had cwm fail more than once to restore for me. Twrp is faster and drains the battery less. And as a shameless self promotion .. My American twrp theme is so sexy .. You'll want to go into recovery everyday.

[Q] Can't flash most ROMs

I have followed all instructions for flashing carefully. I have tried going back to TWRP 2.7.0.0b I have tried putting ROM zip on internal and external storage. I have rebooted recovery after wiping also tried without wiping. Tried to flash: Beanstalk, Paranoid, Carbon, PAC. All for new partition layout. I am S-off with firewater hboot 2.10.5555. The only ROM that has flashed successfully is Omni. I keep getting this error:
See picture.
Any help or info would be much appreciated.

HBOOT 2.10 S-OFF (rumrunner)
Android 4.3 Sense 5.5 V3
Yes.

I think the ROM you want to flash doesn't seems for your device. Contact the rom developer it looks like the developer doesn't get the assert file correctly.
Try the toggle signature verification option in recovery before installing the rom. Check that the rom is for your device or not. The recovery prevent the user to install any incorrect ROM as it can hard brick your device. So make sure that ROM is for your device or not.

Thanks but I am sure I'm flashing the right ROM for my device. This just started happening recently. I just flashed the newest Omni just posted and that flashes too. Superuser flashes as well as gapps. I thought this might have been related to updating my TWRP to 2.7.0.4b which is why I flashed back to 2.7.0.0b and I got the same errors. Backups restore with out issue as well.

Could this possibly be an issue with the firewater hboot?

Don't see that being an issue, unless you're on the older partition setup, which it seems you aren't. Have you tried an older version of TWRP that's built for the updated partition setup?
After looking at your picture of the failed flash, it appears that the issue is with the updater script. You can extract all the files and edit the updater script, then zip everything back up. You might also disable signature checking in TWRP if it's enabled. I've run across the same issue using CWM Touch and I usually either revert to TWRP or edit the updater script.

Are those roms that were on your device from before? Or are they all new downloads?
I really suggest rolling ball to TWRP 2.6.3, and see if you have better luck. I have had zero issues, and I have no reason to update TWRP until there's a new feature that I will actually want/need.

And you are sure that you are downloading the correct files? Maybe it's just me, but it took me a while to find the correct version of numel's PAC rom.

Negative. Failed with the same error. From what I can determine, the updater script is looking for HBOOT 2.10.0000 and I have firewater 2.10.5555. I'm pretty sure this is why some ROMs are failing and others are not. I've got to learn how to edit the updater script as I've never done that before.

Can't the script be updating in simple notepad? There is a lot of English in the updater-script file. Not entirely sure what you'll have to do, but I will surely check for you.
Update:
I re-ran the RUU to bring my HBOOT back to 2.10.0000. I remained unlocked and S-off as is well known. I installed twrp 2.7.0.0b via bootloader and I'm now about to try flashing again. Will update again after trying.

I always edit it with Root Explorer on my phone. You just have to edit out the lines dealing with the bootloader & device name. Fairly simple. It takes longer to extract the files and zip everything back up once you're done:thumbup:

No worries. The biggest thing is to make sure you don't flash the wrong ROM on the wrong device when you edit out those parts of the updater script. Could spell trouble
