Looking into modifying the battery cover or a tpu case to integrate the oem kickstand from the htc evo. Any ideas? No criticism, thank you.
I really want to take my og evo kickstand out and see if I can mod a case with it. I really wish I had a 3d printer, I want to design and "print" my own case with a kickstand.

Best Buy has several cases for the Evo3D with built in kickstands, why waste your time with an inferior do it yourself mod.

There are companies that will do 3D printing for you. Think Kinko's but in 3D.

BTW, 3D printers do exist, this guy even built a solar powered one!

I'm sure the OP has seen the cases with the kickstands...but he's wanting input (not critiques) on suggestions or ideas on how to do a hard-mod to make it happen. With the layout of the device I'm not thinking this will be a super easy task. If you kept the OG evo's placement for the kickstand it'd set it right where the battery goes on the inside of the cover. You'd probably have to somehow create your own back plate with a kickstand built into that.
If you do go for it...props...Def. post pics.
Also be mindful of the orientation of the stand in regards to your USB port. Thats one con with the Titanium+ cases (i have one) that the kickstand is oriented such that you cant have it charging while on the kickstand...i like the kickstand and typically dont use it while charging so its no biggie...just a though though. Since im on this tangent i'll mention that i love the case. I'm typically against cases but this one seems great. If my only complain is kickstand orientation...im happy =-)

Wow $50 for the dock? Is that an HTC OEM dock?
Everything looks exactly the same but the toggle switch as others have stated they like it, I like the original one. Everything else only seems different because of the angle and lighting. Also it may be a bit mental because of being impatient and being critical of all new information, haha.

as much as I like the look of the switch, I really hope it's not, and doubt, that is the actual phone. It looks good, sure but if it's as flush as it looks I think there will be alot of people complaining that it's hard to switch. unless there is little resistance on it in which case I'm sure people will complain that it just switches from 2D-3D all on it's own.
lmao @ $50 for a hunk of plastic.
Interesting. Based on the Otterbox case I just got for it, I'm thinking the more flush camera button from the Best Buy pic might be realistic. There isn't much spare space for the camera button. I like the flush look better, but it does seem "render-ish".
I don't think that's what it will look like. It looks like a rendered mock up of the phone. Probably won't look like that.
so funny story, i actually work at best buy which is why i was interested in what accessories we may have listed. (employee price ftw!) well sprint rep came to visit and low and behold, he brought a live evo 3d! the buttons and NOT changed and it looks exactly like all the old pics and videos so best buys renders are just inaccurate. snap a few pics before i had to let it go

How nice is the screen? Working at Best Buy you probably get enough time in front of all the great phone screens so how does it stack up in 2d?
Will Best Big carry the HTC Kickstand case? What about the platinum line. Will you guys have some at launch.

The SG looks like it will be made for the 3D. I would prefer the HC, but I'll take whichever comes out first. It's honestly seldom that I actually use the optional outer layer or holster with my current HC.
I would guess that this mid-level Ballistic case provides at least equal protection to anything provided by Otterbox or Trident.

That's what a lot of people say about the phone without the case.
However, it is useful to a lot of people with jobs like construction, mechanics, etc. that need something tough.
Also for people who are very active and outdoorsy(i.e. mountain biking, krav maga)
Very Nice.

I had a otter box for my OG Evo.
I was not really impressed with the overall quality of the product and I often found it hard to to hit the corners in it. I want to get a S case because I have to bike home from my job and I often have to change songs, to do that i take out my phone. At the time I have to stop, because I am afraid I might drop my 3VO >_<
Just got a email from the company saying they have the SG case in stock.

That's the only Evo 4G feature I'm really missing. I used it quite a bit... kind of bummed they got rid of it.
Best Buy sells a case with a kickstand. Inexplicably pricey like all cell phone cases, but worth it if you miss the kickstand.

Many more much needed upgrades that have been added, easily account for the kick stand and they sell nifty cases with manly kickstands

My kickstand messed up and wouldn't stay closed, so no I do not miss it.
I miss mine. I never put my phone flat on its face or on its back in fear of messing up the screen or camera. I always used the kick stand. It was really nice watching Sprint TV, web tv, hulu, movies, and playing video games using the kickstand. Now I have to go buy some stupid clunky case.
+1 for missing the kickstand. Maybe someone will make an extended battery case with a kickstand in it.. I'd buy that with real money.
I thought I would miss it but I havent missed it at all.

I do, even though I never used it.
i miss it even though i didn't use it all that much. more of a show-off feature. i went into best buy today and looked at their piece of **** kickstand case. it is 35.00$ the actual kickstand is thin plastic. i will get an htc case with the big metal kickstand once i find a black one.
the one thing i am seeing though is when this phone is on it's kickstand the charging port is going to be sitting on the bottom. not a huge deal for me since i didn't use it for long periods of time, but a really big FAIL for htc. should have left the charging port at the bottom like the 4G
Never used it, to be honest.

Apparently the microUSB port does HDMI-out. Look up "MHL port" on google. Special cable required, of course, and an HDTV not more than 2 years old "might" be completely MHL compatible too.
I miss mine and also the Micro USB port on the bottom.

I went to BestBuy yesterday looking for a case and I saw that one. In my opinion, it has two problems.
1.- The kickstand is made of thin plastic, it might be functional, but it doesnt look very sturdy.
2.- (The biggest one) Once the phone is on the stand, the USB port ends up facing the table so you cant charge your phone and use the kickstand at the same time.
On the other hand, its the only option for now if you have to have one.
I rather wait until the official comes out or the dock.
The official HTC case for the 3VO will be just like the Thunderbolts, nice and slim with a meaty metal kickstand.
i bought the body glove vibe cover from the sprint store and love it. it only comes in purple that i know of. it is 24.99 and i received 25% off for buying two accessories.
edit it fits perfectly in the car dock from sprint.
I shelled out the 35 for the kickstand case (pt) from BB. More than I would usually spend on a case but it doesn't add much bulk at all and the kickstand is nice to have. It does seem on the fragile side but it locks in pretty good so I don't think it will pop out when it's not supposed to. There are 2 settings - out and out a little further. The 2nd enables you to stand it in portrait and thus charge the phone. Not a perfect case, but pretty nice.
The body glove kickstand idea looks cool but it looks bulky and well ... it's purple.

I got this yesterday also...I really like it, and I'm not a case-kind-of-guy! My OG EVO, no case, perfect condition not a single mark on it. I feel this phone has to have it just to be able to set it down safely without scratching the camera lenses which I did on my first E3D within 4 days, not good! I feel a lot more safe with this case and the cheesy little kickstand works fine. Was hoping it would still fit into that HTC car mount but no go. Picked up the universal car mount at Sprint and I am a happy E3D owner!
Hi Gals and Guys,
I'm planning a car tour through the Alps this year.
Beside a GoPro HD Cam, I'd like to try to film some of the driving with my Evo3D in 3D.
Filming from within the windshield does not make sense as the reflections of the windshield would mess the result up.
Do you have any idea how to mount the Evo3D very safe outside of the car?
I'm thinking about some kind of magnetic tripods or something like that.
My problem is the holder itself.
Actually my planned solution is to take a Haicom Bike Mount and modify it a little to take place on a professional magnetic mount. But I'm not sure about the reliability.
I don't like to see my Evo3D flying, while taking a corner on a pass a little to sharp
Second Problem: I'm driving a Nissan 350z Roadster. The hood and trunk are made of alloy. So magnetic mounts could be a problem, too...
What would be your solution?
Best case scenario: Go with a GoPro 3D rig. I'm almost certain they don't make a mount, and you'll end up building one that may not work out with best results.
http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/3d-hero-system/
Don't forget to put tape over the mic. It was hurtful on my ears for the first time playing it in the beginning.
The go pro is awesone, although you need 2 cameras and the 3d housing to shoot 3d. As for using the EVO, all the holders I've seen cover the camera lenses
I would use a ballistic case, then mod the holster to take some kind of mount.
One of those suction handles that glaziers use would give you something really solid without marking the paintwork. Like Here
Or for a cheaper option something like this would probably do the job, wouldn't look quite as cool though!
Take the belt clip off the holster and bolt it straight on to the handle.
The holster holds the phone screen inwards so wouldn't cover the lenses. You might need to use some duck tape or better yet a velcro strap just make sure phone doesn't come out, the added dust and bug protection wouldnt hurt either! Just a thought..

well im not sure if you had heard about the trident AMS case for the 3d, but you could check it out.
its a heavy duty case but has some pretty cool features behind it. there is a kickstand on the case but that kickstand can be interchangeable with some attachments like a bike raile clip and a tripod mount. now i was thinking that those two features combined with the duarability of the case you could def whip something up better than ducktape haha. here is the link to the site for the mods and the actual case website.
