[Q] Can I skip the CSC - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

The title says it all, I am currently running 2.3.3 KPL and feel it is quite sluggish wich I have never experienced before on this device running 2.2 or 2.3.4 KPH
So my question is, Can I flash KPH via odin and the 4 package version and just skip CSC ? I want to keep the operator settings and such intact.
(I know its no hassle to manually put the APN settings in so don't tell me )

Vodafone branded phone - newbie question

Hi can I ask a very noob question?
I don't have clear wether the kernel and the firmware are the same thing or not.
I have an S2 Vodafone branded
I was on KE2 and I put the KE7 Kernel following the newest guide here and I am now on:
Baseband BUKE1
Kernel XWKE7
Build number ends in BUKE1.
My question is: Have I updated correctly? Sorry if the question is really basic but I started having some doubts I might still have the phone "half-flashed" so a middle way between KE2 and KE7.
My goal was to get rid of the Vodafone apps and be able to update the kernel (or firmware). I restarted the phone but apart from the yellow sign (which I don't mind for now) the phone still has the same apps as before, so the Vodafone stuff is still there.
Any suggestion guys?
Thank you!
You need to remove them yourself.
Download Titanium Backup from the market and use that.
You can freeze apps, then if you still don't want them it can be uninstalled.
If you want to use it again, you can defrost the app.

You need the full KE7 rom, not just the Kernel. This will remove the yellow triangle and the vodafone apps.
I too had a lightly branded Vodafone UK handset. I installed the XEU KE7 ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and then manually went to Settings > Applications and then removed the Vodafone stuff. Works a lot better that the Vodafone UK ROM.
the yellow triangle is not a problem, it's just annoying to see.
ok before i try to root/debrand let be see if i have got this right
(i have a vodafone BUKE1 version)
using downloads of XWKE7 from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278&highlight=XWKE7
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
1) using Odin3 i flash the 520mb I9100XWKE7_I9100XXKE4_I9100XEUKD1.tar file
boot it up as now should be XEU KE7 unbranded
2) using Odin3 i flash the CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4.tar file
this will add cf-root and so i can install root tools
3) finaly using Odin3 i flash the I9100XWKE7_Kernel.tar
this gets rid of the yellow warning sign but leaves me with root access
can someone please confirm i have understood this correctly as it is a bit different from the HTC desire!
many thanks in advance

[Q] Question on firmware information

Hi ,
I am using SGS2 from Germany (unbranded)
My initial firmware for KE2 and I then flashed KF2.
My current phone config is
Code:
PDA : I9100XXKF2
PHONE : I9100XXKF2
CSC : I9100XAKF2
Ofcourse as always for me, Kies is not working for firmware upgrade (is it because i have it rooted?)
Anyway I was checking the fiwmare details on CheckFusdownloader and found out today that the firmware for Europe is
Code:
I9100XWKF3/I9100XEUKD1/I9100XXKE7/I9100XWKF3
After downloading the file, the TAR looks like this
Code:
I9100XWKF3_I9100XXKE7_I9100XEUKD1_HOME.TAR
My questions are:
1. How can I map the above with Phone / PDA / CSC etc?
2. Is this the new firmware than KF2?
3. IS it worth moving to this firmware?
4. Would I be able to root?
My battery life seems to be somewhat improved from KE2 to KF2.
Thanks
The newest kernel is KG1 Gingerbread 2.3.4.
Move to KG1. Forget KF3. everyone's on KG1. Fixes battery life and other things Google talk+video.
It goes in alphabetical order efg so G is the newest KG1.
and I am assuming they are in order
So PDA then Phone then CSC.
My CSC is UNKNOWN LOL, true fact.
Latest firmware is KG2 and thats 2.3.3.
KF2 is slighly older than KF3 .
KG12.3.4 is not a Samsung release its a leaked test firmware .
Root yes read the root post in dev section ..
My view wait for 2.3.4 to be released by Samsung for next upgrade if phone is working OK .

1- As long as you are on stock firmware Kies won't make any difference, rooted or not.
2- AFAIK KF2 is the newer build than KF3 and the latest available for Europe.
3- Press *#1234# to see software info.
4- I'd say you should wait for official KG1 to be released. The current one is leaked and have bugs, so better avoid it.
Regards.

I'd look up Lite'ning rom 2.2 if i were you...
Roots your phone, KG1 and all in there. Also Gingerbread 2.3.4.
Works perfect for me. Why wait for the official update. Modders will implement it very fast.
Good luck!
If you change to KG1 dont bother flashing the CSC, use the one you have at the moment.
I am not sure if there is much advantage to that KF3 based rom over KF2, so if you are happy with KF2 and dont want to jump to KG1 (which is working perfectly for me, I dont use stock browser) I wouldn't bother.
Yes you would be able to root btw, just use the KF3 kernel from chainfire.
Thanks guys for your feedback
BTW whats with CSC what will happen if I mess with it? phone will get bricked? lets s say if I flash CSC from another country will i be able to go back to Europe CSC?
Is this only for language?
CSC is only a few text files and xml files with lists of networks etc .
Not really needed for phone to work and a new one can easily be flashed .

So that means i can flash any country's SGS2 firmware? Whats with baseband? have any info on that?
Baseband = modem/radio.
Yes flash any firmware and enter the networks APN manually as long as its on the same mhz it will work .
But if you flash Chinese firmware it will have Chinese keyboard etc .
PDA = firmware including kerel
Phone = modem/radio/baseband
CSC = country specifics with a list of local networks keyboard to use language to use etc .
Many firmwares are multi CSC say covering most of Europe .

Thanks mate for the clarifications

You can't, the device can only have one modem at a time.

You will just replace the old one.

How long Telstra take to update to 2.3.4?

So I just got the Telstra Galaxy S2 on 2.3.3
I know it takes months of testing for carriers to upgrade to a major release such as from Froyo to Gingerbread but what about just upgrading from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 how long do you reckon it would take them?
I am getting terrible battery life and want to see if 2.3.4 fixes it.
On the other hand, I realise if I cannot wait I can install the Australian stock unbranded ROM uploaded by intratech so if it takes too long I will consider that option but I just wonder what is the difference between the offical ones and the frankensteins?
It says it's for roms with multiple CSC's. But for the official XWKE7 there is only for CSC for Australia. However some users have requested the Optus CSC to be uploaded which it has.
I just wonder if you were to install the stock Australian ROM wouldnt that still work with Telsta / Optus / Voda etc? Why would users want the to have the optus CSC installed as well? I thought the idea of the stock's was to make the phone unbranded? What is the advantage of putting the Optus CSC on top of that? Is it for better network performance to make it work better with optus?
Since there is no Telstra CSC there will I be fine to install the official unbranded XWKE7 ROM and use it with Telstra?
Lastly once the Telstra modem drivers come out I could also install this onto the stock so I have the next-G optimised driver?
Thanks
CSC is mostly just apn settings for internet and mms and any Apps the carrier wanted to bundle. You can always manually enter your apn!
As far as modems go, you can seemingly use any modem with any rom/kernel, i am using the old ke7 modem with a kg3 rom.
As far as choosing a modem goes, it's a matter of trial and error to find the one which gives the best performance for you, for example 3UK just put out the KF2 modem, but it's not great for me.
2.3.4 is only available in kg builds the newest being kg6. KE7 is still a 2.3.3 build.
For me battery life improved moving into the kf's with wifi sharing frozen along with other junk but that would mean rooting.

[Q] How to save original firmware + update Questions

Hello!
I got an upgrade phone from 3 UK, and i want to save the firmware on it. Is there any way to do it?
The reason why i want to save, i've never seen this baseband ver: I9100NEKF2 ...
But i want to update it to a newer (not stock one)
Can i change/ update the baseband to XXKI3 for eg?? without any problem??
I had a Samsung Galaxy S before, and i flashed it via odin, but it had that XXJV.. baseband, and i changed only within the European firmwares.
So the question is, what kind of firmware could the I9100NEKF2 be?? Can i simply install a european firmware on it without taking the risk to brick it??
And can i save somehow the original firmware just in case if anything goes wrong??
Thank you!
I tried that method...
Make sure you read all that thread before flashing...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Don't delay DO it Today...
Hello!
Thanks for the quick answer. Can i flash not carrier branded firmware on the phone, or should i choose the carrier branded one. I mean i want to install some custom rom, such as darky or cm7... Is that possible??
Thank you!

[Q] best baseband / get stock rom + baseband back

Hello man!
[2 Questions, 1: get back stock rom]SOLVED maybe next time i better get peanut butter of my eyes first.. Thanks for talking about!
O2 German Ace S5830 stock rom PDA:XWKPY CSC:VIAKP1 BASEBAND:XWKP8 (found on sammobile, its the one from 1969...) flash first other multi-csc rom and set to VIA for future kies updates.
Get my ace a few days ago and flashed sth here and there without thinking about getting back to stock rom later. Had a HD2 some time ago where you get stock rom for all country and provider on htc homepage..
So im sitting here and want my ace back to out-of-box state but no rom ive found seems to be right. looked on sammobile.com, searched xda and at last tons of google results.
didnt know what the name of stock rom was.. only baseband XWKP8 which i only found on some russian site and that it was android 2.3.3. doestn want to try unless sbdy can say me its save..
Got my ace from O2 Germany without contract, so no simlock etc..
My intention is to get some o2 germany rom back, so i can update with kiez to latest. tried a lot of roms from sammobile, modified csc to DBT (germany) and VIA (should to be o2 germany csc code).
[2 Question unsolved]
Had problems with several ROMs with wifi / 3g network, couldnt activate/deactivate or wifi is not getting IP, need to reboot every time to fix that.. Which baseband is best for which rom / my country? (gingerbread, ics, etc...)
Maybe i am spoiled from HD2.. sry for that
PS[Maybe irrelevant: now flashing leaving EFS blank, seems to work fine too, dont know yet if better]: Something else.. Instructions for flashing rom with ODIN are confusing me, sbdy say dont touch PDA others say dont touch EFS. Flashed all the time not touching PDA, putting boot to boot, code to phone, csc to csc and modem to efs. Still have my IMEI so all right or just lucky? Read all the newbie guides (which were very confusing) imo i read sth about backup imei but i am not sure as if and how.
Hope you can help me, thanks for all guys reading and thinking about.
