Now that the developers have all the access for the camera ( eclair libcamera ) can they add exposure capabilities so that it will be able to take pictures with this application [ https://market.android.com/details?id=com.almalence.hdr_plus&hl=en ].
It would be awesome
Isn't easier install that camera or even camerazoomfx they are very good
sadly HDR Camera+ (or any other hdr software that uses more than one photo for hdr effect) doesnt work because of lack of exposure settings

Hi Devs... do you know if there is a way to change the jpeg compression on Xperia X10 with android 2.1? is a little frustrating to have a 8mpx camera and be limited to 2mb photos...
8MP in a ~2MB jpeg is normal. My bro's pro Canon makes 3MB raw picture, but it's only 2MP
So what? Wait till the bootloader gets cracked. Did you see maxfron's latest post? He makes great progress on it
We don't have to wait.
Just use a different Camera-Application ( I use Camera 360 Pro, it compresses less)
Or decompile and rewrite the SE Camera-Application.
the problems is, the photos taken with the stock camera the quality of jpeg compression is very poor... i don't like vignette or camera 360, just don't feel good with the interface and in all that options there is no way to change the ISO value nor the shutter velocity, neither with the stock camera app but at least is "free".
Guys check this out
This SEMC camera mod by 28spawn works great for me.

I don't think the raw format has been implemented yet in the android SDK. There are placeholders for raw functionality however. So perhaps eventually.
As for JPG compression I would think the stock sony cam app makes the most of the camera and sets quality to 100. JPG is a lossy format though so will not be perfect.
Try turning image stabilization off. It will result in a sharper image.
HDR comes to Android! Introducing Pro HDR Camera, the world's first real HDR app for Android! From the team that created Pro HDR for iOS, now you can automatically create stunning full-resolution HDR images with just a single tap on your Android phone. Please note that this app has been tested to work properly on Motorola, HTC and most Samsung phones. However, if you have a LG, Sony, or other device, the HDR capability may not function properly. Full functionality has been verified on the following phones: * HTC: Thunderbolt, EVO 4G, MyTouch 4G, G2, Incredible, Desire, Legend, Bravo * Motorola: Droid, Droid 2, Droid X * Samsung: Galaxy S, Epic 4G We've just released Pro HDR Camera for Android, but here are a few professional reviews of our iPhone version: "If you ever take photos using your iPhone, this app is a must-have." - Gizmodo "Pro HDR leaps ahead of the pack... Even if you're not into HDR photography, this is one to check out." - TUAW "Picture Perfection: Pro HDR automatically aligns and blends the images, giving you a perfectly exposed, amazing image that rivals a high-end point-and-shoot camera" - NBC Los Angeles Thanks to Pro HDR Camera, you no longer have to choose between a blown-out sky or a hopelessly dark foreground. Bringing automatic high dynamic range photography to your Android phone for the first time ever, Pro HDR captures an image exposed for the highlights and another exposed for the shadows. It then aligns and merges the images, giving you a gorgeous HDR image up to 8 megapixels like nothing you've ever seen from such a tiny device. Unlike fake HDR apps that merely take a single photo and reprocess it (without actually adding any new detail), Pro HDR massively extends the dynamic range of your camera and produces beautiful results that you have to see to believe. We provide a fully automatic mode, and an assisted Manual mode for those times when you wish to choose your exact exposures. Finally, you can take stunning high-resolution photos of all those scenes that are just too contrasty to capture in a single picture. Not only will seasoned photographers instantly fall in love with Pro HDR, one look at our example images should convince anyone that Pro HDR represents a new era in mobile photography. Check out our gallery here: http://www.eyeappsllc.com/Gallery.html Pro HDR Camera for Android comes with these incredibly useful features: • Automatic in-app HDR capture, where all you have to do is tap to capture • Manual in-app photo capture, where you get to choose the exposure of each image in your HDR • Proprietary image alignment algorithm that precisely aligns full-size images in seconds • Sophisticated image blending creates one beautiful output image nearly instantly • Live-updating image adjustment sliders to perfect your HDR: choose the perfect brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, and tint, or let Pro HDR automatically select the best settings • Fullscreen image preview in portrait and landscape orientation • Save HDR images at the full resolution of your camera, up to 8 megapixels • Seamless background processing that renders your HDRs while you keep on shooting • Built-in HDR gallery view to peruse, share, and re-edit your HDRs • Share your HDRs with the world with e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Picasa, and more IMPORTANT: Pro HDR Camera requires Android 2.2 (Froyo) or later. Pro HDR Camera works on Motorola, HTC and Samsung devices. Unfortunately, the exposure functions on LG phones and the Nexus S seem to be broken, so HDR functionality will likely not work (though the rest of the features will). The Nexus S doesn't truly adjust the exposure, but seems to darken or brighten the image in software as a post-processing step, which does not allow for true HDR photos. LG phones don't allow setting the exposure at all.
i assume you've tested it on x8, right? does it work, or you just uploaded it to raise your thanks level by ppl who click thanks button before checking compatibility?

I'm using the latest nightly of Rootbox + latest dorimanx 8.1. Here is my problem: in photo app settings I set 6.4 MP (wide photo) after took a photo it has 8MP 4:3 ratio. I've tested jb camera+, camera ZOOM FX, camera FV-5 and camera zoom. Every time was the same result instead of wide photo settings. Any advises are appreciated. Does anybody know which part of code is responsible for taking wide photos?
I was searching through xda today and I found answer for my question. All new AOSP roms are not capable of taking 16:9 photos. Below quote why it is in this way:
„moving to the open source camera hal it removed additional resolutions with 16:9 this is not rom related but device tree related something every aosp rom has in common”
It's really sad for me I love to take 16:9 photos but now I'm not able to. I hope it's going to change in the nearest future.
Hello
I have a smartphone with a 5mpx camera so it captures pictures with a resolution of 2560*1920, but on panorama mode each piece of picture have a resolution of 640*480, poor when zooming the picture.
I tried a lots of applications but the same conclusion, except ProCapture - camera + panorama which delivers a better quality on panorama mode, but it's still below my expectations, and the quality of the panorama is below the quality of normal photos
example, I took two pictures with camera pro, one with normal mode and the other with the panorama mode, the normal photo has a resolution of 2560*1920 and 4594*789 for panorama photo, logically panorama photo is composed of 4 photos than it should have a resolution of 2560x4 = 10240
either 10240*1920
do you know a camera application that delivers panoramic photos without losing quality?
Well, as far as I can say, there are no apps that I know off about taking panorama photos with the actual resolution.
But a nifty thing can be taking all the photos normally like you would, and then making a panorama out of it on Photoshop.
ok thank you
but why there is no app that take a panorama photo with the maximum resolution

Hi,
Can someone with Xperia 1 please:
1. Install "Camera2 API probe" and report if it has a green check for "RAW capture".
2. If RAW is indeed supported, please install "Open Camera" (or another third party app supporting RAW output), take some pictures in DNG format and provide the original DNG files.
3. Also take the same photos with the stock Sony cam and provide the original JPG files for comparison with the DNG.
I think this may help quite a few people since we have yet to see any evidence of RAW support and samples from Xperia 1.
Thank you in advance.
Here you go buddy :

Thanks a lot for your quick reply.
Of course if you have a chance to post some unprocessed DNG's vs stock cam that would be great.
I'd like to test if we can extract better quality than stock from the RAW in post processing.
Raw Capture App : Camera FV-5
Hi there, I too realized that the stock camera under not so ideal conditions does not really produce the best image. Hope sony does fix it with an update, they have after years made a good phone to compete with other really hope they don't screw it up.
Coming back to topic :
I am currently using Camera FV-5 paid application and the RAW image is amazing in terms of getting a good base to play around on lightroom. I am even getting extremely impressive images by editing it on phone with Lightroom (paid full) android app.
I will try and post a google drive link in sometime, but for a quick feedback the RAW capture on Xperia 1 is good. I am sure even other 3rd party RAW apps should work well., given it has full Camera 2 API support. (Note it does not support level 3 API though)
Thank you cletusindia for your valuable info,
Can you tell me if the RAW support also applies to the telephoto and ultrawide lenses ?
Also can you access these lenses with FV-5 ? (I have FV-5 but only 1 lens on the XZ2 so I dont' know how it deals with multi-lens.)

No, just the main camera. I also use Open Camera, even this app only uses main lens with digital zoom.
Also from camera2 probe (APP) i noticed the Wide angle lens does not support RAW. its only the main and telephoto lens.

Isn't it possible to switch to the wide angle and telephoto on 3rd party apps like open camera?
It doesn't make sense sony locking it even if the JPEG are great.
LG phones have RAW on all lenses for years altought JPEG processing in the later models is not very good.
