[Q] No Samsung Apps without SIM? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I've bought myself a Galaxy Tab 3G.. Even though I have no intention of using the 3G at all.. The WiFi-version was unavailable with no ETA, so I had to go for it.
And I'm loving the TAB like hell! Darn it, I've spent so much time with it already, I've almost forgotten my equally lovely SGSII..
But here's my query.. Isn't it a tad odd, that I can't access Samsung Apps without a SIM in the tab? It makes no sense what so ever..!
What about all you folks with the WiFi-only tab? Is there no Samsung Apps on it?

I don't know if you mean samsung apps or the samsung app store, but I have both on a wifi-only tab. Weird that it won't let you do it. Did you fill out the registration when you first turned the tab on?

I got the P7500 3G - and I have no problem accessing Samsung apps without the simcard in. As suggested above - check that you have setup your samsung account correct.

I am using samsung galaxy tab 10.1. I only have the wifi version and have no problems accessing the samsung app store nor downlading apps from it. But as fae as I can see there is less than 100 apps and most of them isnt anything worth.

Thanks for the replies..
I don't know if I setup the Samsung Account correctly.. In settings, I can see my Samsung account in the sync-menu, but I can't edit it or check my information..
Any idea how else to do this?

Same to me, with wifi+3g version I had to put a sim to be able to access the Samsung app store for the first time.
After the first access I removed the sims and I still was able to use the store untill I had to update the Samsung app, after that it asked again for the sim.
To note that I used a sim without an active data plan

Can a Verizon prepaid smartphone sim card be used with a Verizon Galaxy Tab for data?

Hi, I have a Galaxy Tab 7.7 by Verizon and I'm thinking about buying a Verizon prepaid smartphone + plan for 60 dollars a month but what I want to know is will I be able to take my sim card out of my smart phone and use it in my Galaxy tab for data use only so I that I can surf the internet?
Will a Verizon prepaid smartphone sim card work on a Verizon Galaxy Tab for data use?
has anyone ever tried using a Verizon prepaid smartphone simcard with a Verizon Galaxy tab for internet use? will this method work? ....
I understand that the text feature and anytime minutes want work on the galaxy tab. I just want to use the prepaid simcard from my verizon smarphone with the Galaxy Tab so I wont have to pay phone a phone and a data plan for a tablet monthly.
I tried chatting with 2 Verizon reps but I was never give a clear answer. One would say I will need to buy both. SMH... and the other would say no and tried to get me to buy a mifi jetpack and smartphone.... I don't know if there trying to hide the fact that his can be done because of apps that would come in handy with this method like GoogleVoice, Gtalk etc.

If your smartphone runs Android, then you can buy the data plan and activate the hotspot tethering on the phone and with the WiFi activated on the tablet, you can surf the net with the tablet through the data plan in your smartphone.
I do the same between my Grand duos, Nokia E7 and Galaxy Tab P7500, my laptop and whoever I chose to give access up to 10 devices. All the devices are fed through the data plan in my P7500.
Cheers.

A mobile app not syncing with its website on my phone, but will on similar phone.

Hey guys. I haven't been here in a while and am actually here for another question but figured while I am in this forum, why not ask a question that might be hit or miss.
1) Ok so my girl and I have been doing this weight loss program and the mobile app that we use is myfittnesspal. For some reason when I log calories eaten on the mobile app it does not communicate and update on the website. The mobile app shows no problems when I sync, but when I log on to actual website, nothing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and hard resetting my phone. What is weird is that my girl has a similar phone, I have the galaxy s3 mini and she has the galaxy lite. Yeah both ancient, both with android 4.4.2. But when I log in the mobile app on her phone, it syncs with website fine. What the heck is going on? This is frustrating because we just spent $300 on fitbits to sync with this stupid app. Why is my phone not cooperating?
2) If I can't get this to work, I will probably buy a new phone. I am thinking of going with the latest mini, the galaxy s5 mini that is. I see a whole bunch on amazon and I am not sure which one to get because of the different frequency bands. I know for sure I want a gsm phone and I plan to use it on either Tmobile or ATT or an MVNO of either. So I see unlocked ones, international ones, haven been able to find a carrier one that is not used yet. Can someone please help with this question or should I post in another area?
Nothing?

Play Store app says : This item isn't available on your carrier

Hi all.
I have a UK honor 7 which has updated ota to B380.
It was bought direct from Amazon UK (not a third party seller)
I am trying to download "Three Intouch" App on the play store but when I try to it says "This item isn't available on your carrier".
I've Googled and can't find much info on this particular error.
I have tried the same on my s7 edge on EE and downloads fine. Also on an old nexus 4 with no sim inserted and installs so this confirms you don't need a 3 (UK) sim inserted to install it
so bit confused why it won't download on the honor 7.
The honor 7 has never been rooted, all other apps download like what's app etc and Three main app downloads.
Any ideas?

I suspect you've answered your own question - you have a phone without a 3 SIM in it, but you do have another (LIFE) one, so the app won't install. The handset with EE SIM might still work, as 3 used to piggyback on Orange for 2G services - there may still be some hangover from that period. When you tried it on the handset without a SIM, there isn't any network connected, so the store has nothing to check against.
FWIW, I can download it on my handset with a 3 SIM in, but don't as I don't like the fact that it uses contract minutes etc while using my broadband at home, and separates calls and texts from my normal apps. (Plus I don't have signal problems at home).

I have also tried with no sim and it still didn't work
but doesn't explain why i was able to download it in a S7 Edge with EE sim inserted.
I have manually downloaded an older apk of the app and it installed fine but as it was older it doesn't work, i need the latest 6.0.1 apk which i cannot find to download yet. interestingly, once i installed the apk it still didn't show up in the play store as installed app.
i may try doing a factory reset, only option i have really.
This is the first time I seen this error. Maybe you can try downloading the apk from an online downloader and then install it on your phone manually.

I have H7, a Three SIM and can download the app.
Last time I had that problem was because my Google account wasn't registered in UK, but once I changed to UK I was able to get the app.
Thanks guys
i have reset the phone to factory to no avail
my google account is already in UK
i have tried installing the intouch apk manually which works but does not show in the play store as being installed. only thing here is i cannot get the latest 6.0.1 of the app and the older versions dont work as when you start it it says please update .
my last test was to use another gmail account i have on the H7 and it works fine!!
so it seems there is some restriction on the account i was using before, location is set to UK in google wallet, are there any other places i need to change the location?

I´ve read it somewhere that to validate the country change in Google account you need to make a purchase.
I had a major headache with that but fixed it.
Managed to get it working and the fix is a simple one for those who come across this issue and found this thread.
Leave the 3 sim in the phone for 30mins then reboot it. Reason being the google account I was using has never been in a phone that uses a 3 sim , so it needs to register it self and takes some time.

I though you had done that. You get some sms to validate the SIM, if I remember correctly. And APN settings are setup automatically.
Duh!

I got the apn SMS the very first time I entered the 3 sim into the h7, but even after that it the app wouldn't download.
As I was troubleshooting this issue and swapping sims around phones I never gave it long enough to do its magic.
So if anyone else gets the issue just be patient. if your google account have ever been in a phone that is on 3 network , sit back and relax

The delay may be due to a slow internet connection.

I never had that problem with Vodafone though. I think it might be a 3 specific issue.
You went after the big data allowance, did you? ?

We have 200Mbps download, not sure this could be the reason

Hehe. Not yet, I'm Actually forward planning for the wife, she's on Life Mobile at the moment and we have poor signal in our house, wanting to utilise the 3 in touch wifi calling app so was just testing this out with a 3 payg.
I have now ordered her a 12 month sim only contract via 3 website, unl mins, unl texts and 4gb data for £9 per month. That will more than enough.

Good deal.
I'm with 3 but I think EE might have better coverage.
I'm with payg 12GB/month, but I will change within some months.
Great deal .?

Very frustrating problem in s2, s3, s4 and s6!

Ok... here is the story... I owned galaxy tab s2, s3, s4 and now own s6... all lte with regular phone call capabilities.... from s2 to s6 have the same annoying problem... incoming phone calls and sms stop working randomly (lte always works)... yes on all devices! Long time ago, when i bought s2 to use as a phone, I thought "ok, it is not a real phone, and it is from south korea will wait to s3 (i live in the usa and use t mobile)".... then bought s3... same problem... S4 same and s6 same! Im very frustrated... all these are 1000 dollar tablets! How it is possible this problem happen on all devices through years...
I detected this problem because, when my phone is turned off, all calls are forwarded to my wife's phone... and one time we were dining and she received a call, but my phone was turned on and the caller was calling to me... weird... then... I call my phone with skype from my pc and again call was forwarded to my wife's phone... the only thing that fixed this is turning off and on the tablet...
4 years ago (or more) have been asking in forums, tried to call samsung usa (they even didn't know this tablet with phone exist) and nothing.... obviously did like 100 factory reset... and rooted (not the s6) all devices and messed up a little bit with some configuration like volte and so... but nothing... problem persisted 4 years ago till today...
You sure its not a samsung account problem. Maybe it linked itself to your wifes phone number on one of those tablet and now its acting strange. Have you tried logging in online into your samsung account. Maybe there is a setting with linked phone number or perhaps an "old device list"/"linked devices" where you can delete all linked devices and then log it back in on your device.
Also if that all isnt possible maybe try a new samsung account?

When I was looking to buy the S6 I started looking at the wifi model first and noticed that the phone software was installed...even thought it was the wifi model. I had never noticed this on earlier tablets and was under the impression that in the US we weren't allowed by the carriers to use the tab as a phone like they can overseas. So when I saw the software installed on the S6 wifi I decided to wait until the LTE model was available from T-Mobile. Finally it was released so I went into T-Mobile and before purchasing I asked them if I were to put my phones SIM into the tab if I would be able to have the phone working since the software was installed on the tab. I was told that it might work for a few days, but the system would eventually detect that it was a tablet and automatically disable that function and the phone would no longer work on the tab. They did however say that if I had a Galaxy phone that it would work through the phone to receive and make calls, but only if the phone was close and connected to the tab ( By wifi or Bluetooth I guess) So I thought that is ridiculous...Why would I pay $729 for the 128GB LTE version and not be able to put in the SIM from my phone and use it that way? When I can get the wifi 256GB version for about $100 less and just tether that to my phone when away from wifi to get onto the web. Anyway...That's the route I took since I wasn't going to be able to use the phone function without a Galaxy phone anyways according to T-Mobile. All these years and we still can't have true phone function on our tabs here in the US, but they can overseas for some reason.

Mine works great!.... when it works... 80% of the day... carrier never disabled the phone calls... or at least that is what i think,... i dont think carrier disconnect my tab just a few times a day.... this solves just with a reset or a network reset... have another solution that works great... i have set up a google voice account, with a second number, and, set on call forwarding, that, when phone is out of signal of shut down it forward to google voice number... that number works on lte so ir works like a charm... but it is not an elegant solution...
I think next year should buy the tmo version and go all calls through lte, phone number with google voice and that is solved...
Just think what i feel... how frustrated i am... 5 years with this problem! the only tab did not had this problem was the first S, just S, (tab s with no number) tmo never help me... samsung usa never help me.... they only told me "do a factory reset" with all my patience anwer "i did like 100 factory reset already" but they told me "ok but make a factory reset" i knew all the time they will never help...
My last hope would be to talk with someone at samsung south korea from a high tech support, but cant get anyone talking in english
The final question is am i the only guy in usa that uses a s6 lte as a phone? or there are other people using a s6 as a phone and dont have this problem?
Thanks for your time

I remember the Tab S.... Still have mine sitting on a shelf somewhere LOL. There was a developer that put a phone rom out for it and with a little hacking I was able to use it as a phone with a Bluetooth set. I remember going into a T-Mobile store with it and they couldn't believe I was using it as a phone LOL. I had it in one of the Otterbox cases with the belt clip so it worked out well for awhile but just as a novelty to see peoples reactions LOL.

How to get around stupid AT&T messaging block!

As title states how can I get around AT&T stupid cross platform messaging block. Absolutely stupid. Samsung does not offer an unlocked version of this tablet forcing you to buy it through a carrier and AT&T locks out key features. Which is absolute crap. Apple is allowed to sync there devices no problem why not us? How can I get around this???
IDK if you still need help. I'm not sure what phone you are using, but I was able circumvent it. I have a Note 20 Ultra from AT&T as well and a wifi only Tab s7+. I was able to load a U1 Firmware onto my Note (This will wipe the phone). I can now sync call and messages. It still doesn't want to work over mobile all the time, but if they are on the same wifi, or if my phone is on a wifi network and the S7+ is connected to the Auto Hotspot from my phone, it works pretty well. Here's the link to the U1 FWs for the Note 20 Ultra. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/ota-and-non-ota-firmware-for-n986u-and-n986u1.4143833/
I can't attest to this working on the Carrier version of the S7+ though. Hope you can find something helpful here.
Best of luck.
