I think I just bricked my EVO 4G. So what happened was I used to have a Motorola Photon 4G but my wife liked it so I gave it to her and bought myself an EVO 4G. Long story short, I used my microsd card from the photon and accidentally flashed a Photon 4G Rom on to my 3D it did not go through, couple of error messages (phew!) I thought I was off the hook, so moving on, I flashed the correct rom, Supra 1.4.1 ROM by empiire i believe (sorry if i got it wrong), after flashing went on to reboot my phone and TADAAAA..
no more power,
no lights (charging or not)
vol + pwr , no luck
vol - pwr , nada
pwr, nope
remove batt and pwr, not working either
its just as if i had no battery power or a BRICK!
can somebody help me out! goin crazii...
thanks...

Just to make sure, we are talking about an Evo3D, right? You said Evo 4G a few times...and if you are indeed talking about an Evo 4G, then that would be the problem, haha, you flashed an Evo 3D rom to the Evo 4G.. If that was just a slip of the mind, then lets move on...
First of all, what recovery are you using? CWM, or TWRP? When you flashed Supra 1.4.1 (great rom, btw) did you get any errors, or was the flash successful? Then you tried to reboot, and that was it? All done? You pulled the battery out, and put it back in, and still get nothing? Try holding the power button for at least 10 seconds, and see if that gets it to boot on. If not, it sounds like it could be a dead battery. With Li-po batteries, it is possible for them to die so much that they won't receive a charge anymore. If you have another battery, try it out. If you're positive that the battery is good and is charged, and you can't get to bootloader, get no led when plugged in, then it sounds bricked. Hopefully that's not the case.
Look real closely where the charging led is and see if a dim red light appears when you press the power button. If so I think your issue can be fix, If not I think you got a paper weight. Try a different battery, because this has been known to happen. Swapping it out might get it to boot.

First make sure your battery has charge (Charge it with another phone?)
Second Check to see if a VERY DIM red light shows where it would normally charge (just to see).
Then, with a fully charged battery, put it into your 3D.
Hold Volume down (ONLY) for 5 Seconds.
Then (STILL HOLDING VOLUME DOWN) press power and hold BOTH
Let go of the power (keep volume down) after either 10 seconds or it boots.

Sorry for the confusion, it is a EVO 3D. I am using TWRP and when I flashed Supra ROM it was successful, no errors. but before that, I accidentally flashed Alien ROM for Motorola Photon 4G. It did not go through, gave me a couple errors. Without rebooting, I went on and flashed Supra ROM. No errors. Then I selected reboot phone. the phone died to reboot and never turned back on.
No LED (Not even a hint of light)
Tried known good battery, still no power.
First time bricking a phone and I am still in denial.
Thanks guys.

You can't access recovery in ANY way?
Have you tried accessing through ADB and telling it to go to recovery through there?
I really doubt flashing a ROM from another phone would format recovery or the bootloader.
If you have adb access try adb reboot recovery.
He said no hint of red light. From what I gathered having both the OG Evo and the 3D, that was a sign to let you know your phone was still doing some kinda communication.

When you say you flashed supra rom after the photon one, did you do a wipe in between or did you immediately flash the supra rom after the accidental flash?
Yeah, I'd say its completely bricked if it won't even get a red light. They won't know you're rooted if you bring it back in to get it replaced and the warranty covers it getting bricked, so you're good for a replacement.

If you get no led light when you plug into the computer, I doubt you'll be able to get adb to see the device. You need to have the Android SDK setup on your computer, and once you have that all set up, all you do is run the command 'adb devices'. If it finds your device (will output phone's serial number), you can then run 'adb reboot recovery', and it should boot you to recovery.
Again, since you get no led lights when plugged in, I highly doubt that adb will detect your phone. Good luck though.

youre right, the computer doesnt even detect that it is connected, so i guess were on a dead end here. its literally a brick! I cant do anything because it wont turn on, computer wont detect it, so theres no way to get into it to change/flash anything.

Since it's like that take it to Sprint, tell them the phone was like this when you woke up the other day, and it was acting weird before, and that it did it after you updated. Say screen was unresponsive and was wonky all together. They'll give you a new one. Just make sure you're good at bullshitting

Hi,
My Evo 3D was working fine, and then all of a sudden (no physical or moisture damage) it shut off and will not reboot.
Tried battery pull, tried several chargers. The LED goes red for about 2 seconds, then turns off, screen doesn't do anything.
If I unplug the phone, the LED stays red for a few seconds but is incredibly dim, then turns off.
The phone is rooted, but I am not running a custom rom at the moment.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.

Yes on my sd, but I can't get into bootloader.. sorry i'm quite new at this.
Same thing happened to mine. By the time I took it to Sprint, the red light wouldn't come on at all. You'll need a replacement.
Hello,
I had the same thing.
You must conncect the phone to pc than go to the dirctory where you have installed adb and try adb reboot boatloder
You will see that the phone waked up.
Thats what i did and works for me.

some other help? the same thing happened to me today, but i cant open the mobile folder in pc when i plug it... it is here though
i updated clockwork recovery via rom manager today.. so its related?
edit: i already tryed another batterry and it didnt helped but it seems it is working now again just like that...
you have CWM which does not let charge while off (your battery is probably dead) flash revolutionary recovery...the only stable recovery for the GSM E3D out
i have the exact same problem, i am running clockwork mod (rooted) and with a flat battery the light will only come on for a few secs then drop out again, I did finally get the thing to charge and the best explanation i can give is a bit vague im sorry but i was so frustrated and trying so many things at once, just keep it plugged in , I know the light wont be on but there must be a trickle of a charge, eventualy I was able to boot holding what I remember to be the power and the camera button, slowly it crawled back to life, first just the splash screen (45secs) then the touchkeys lit, then a full boot, I then hit the wifi off button the second the homescreen loaded and very quickly turned the screen off so as to minimise the battery usage as it would have been only just bootable... the orange light remained and after 10 mins or so i was game enough to pop the screen back on (3% charge after 10 mins so be careful) and confirm that all was not lost... the date and time remained in tact..
so you can boot/charge from flat, but only just and only if you stuff about and trick it into life. I know this info has more or less been covered before but I hope it helps somewhat.
*my nokia 5210 stayed charged for more than half a week... grumble grumble
ok,adb reboot boatloder helped me. thanks for sharing. i knew that cwm recovery has this problem but i just thought that i broke my phone....pff...stupid recovery.
Had the same problem. Take battery out, put it back, hold power button and connect charger. A splash screen should appear.
What custom recovery are you running.if its cwm well that may be the culprit I had the same problem if you can get it to boot I advise you to use 4ext recovery that's what I'm using as my custom recovery and it works perfect and I no longer have the issue's that your having you should look into it good luck

"keep it plugged in , I know the light wont be on but there must be a trickle of a charge, eventualy I was able to boot holding what I remember to be the power and the camera button"
This worked!
So I was updating (well, downgrading firmware from 2.17 to 2.08 really) the firmware on my phone. It went through its thing and said it updated ok and to press power to reboot. I did and the screen went out, didnt come back on. Waited a minute and nothing, usually this works after a second or two so this is very odd. So I removed the battery and put it back and still nothing. I know is is VERY bad idea to remove battery during firmware update, but the update was done and the phone said it was all finished and needed to reboot by this point. Anyway, nothing will get the phone to turn on or show any sign of life. Plugging USB ion does nothing, plugging in to power does nothing. Removing SD card and trying to boot doesnt work, different battery doesnt work. Trying to hold all buttons while booting does nothing, trying to boot to bootloader does nothing, and booting like normal does nothing. Whether I press the power button or hold it for 3 minutes straight. Nothing. Is my phone hard-bricked now and I have to send it to HTC for reprogramming?

Unfortunately sounds like it's all done man. You've confirmed battery is good by trying other ones, so it's got juice. Based on what you've said, it's toast. As far as I know, there is no way to recover an Evo3D when it's the state yours is in. TrevE was working on some download mode stuff, I think trying to jtag it, but never got to a useful point with it. Sorry for your luck.
Edit: And the only thing I can really think of to explain why it happened, is that perhaps your download was corrupted. Flashing a corrupted radio = brick. Did you check the md5sum? Because as long as you're positive that the firmware update was 100% complete before you pulled the battery, it shouldn't have bricked.
Took it in to a repair store, they completely took the phone apart and probed it with all their special tools and all that. Apparently the motherboard is fried. Dont know how that happens with something like this but whatever. Seems almost like dumb luck that it happened at the same time, but most likely it is somehow related.
Looks like I am leaving the EVO 3D family. I will miss all the fun stuff that goes on here and the AnthraX kernels. But I sold my brand new EVO3 D I got as a replacement for enough money to cover the whole ETF from Sprint and the cost of a Galaxy Nexus. So thats where I am moving.
So I am now on hboot 1.40 s-off cdma Evo 3d... 2 weeks old, never dropped.
I have cwm touch recovery on my phone. Haven't had a problem with my phone since downgrading the hboot to 1.40.
Was running d3rp's rom and it was pretty amazing... decided to do the usual wipe(s) and flash Newt's RC2 of the Htc One S rom....
My battery wasn't charging and my 3D was bleeding battery life like a vag having it's time of the month, so I decided to wipe everything and flash a different rom. I booted into cwm, like usual, did the wipes and went to flash d3rps rom, kept saying error 1 and now damn thing won't power on and since everything was wiped It is ROM-less.
It's so weird, I can plug it & get a red light for about 2 seconds then it disappears. Never comes back on...nothing gets it to come on.
I have tried adb reboot bootloader, and the whole take the battery out, hold power for 10 seconds put the battery back in mess, but my computer and no computer recognizes the phone, so adb is out of the question.
-- I cannot boot into anything, it won't power on-- EXCEPT I CAN get the HTC screen (the bright one that blinds the sh*t of out of you!) but that's it. And it takes all kinds of work just to get to that screen.
Any suggestions? I'll try em all because there is no way the battery on this is dead if so I'd not get the HTC screen.
You cannot ruu it back to stock either because it has to be in fastboot mode in order to do that, I can't get into recovery so that's a fail as well.
Is there any way to use Odin or Heimdall to fix this; or anything else????
Odin and heimdall are for Samsung. You can try taking the battery out and holding power htton without the battery for a couple minutes. Then replace battery. Hold power both volumes and the camera button.

Your problem comes from cwm touch, it does not support off mode charging.
Are the adb drivers installed correctly? Have you ever had adb working before?
If you can, try holding volume down and power while plugged in, choose fastboot USB.
Let it charge, boot into Rom, download 4ext touch recovery which does not have any bugs, phone will charge while off.
Google + pertinent info = results
Yep all my drivers are installed correctly, it won't do anything whatsoever except give me the htc boot screen and that's it. Nothing more and to get it to do that requires all sort's of maneuvers such as the battery being pulled holding down the button, ya know the usual stuff.
I am certainly not new to this whatsoever and I am very familiar with adb nothing seems to recognize my phone and I never had a problem of charging my phone in any time since i've had cwm touch on my phone.
Any other suggestions.......Annnnything at all I'll give it a shot.
Can you get into the bootloader by doing the following?
- Pull out the battery
- Put the battery back in
- Hold the volume down button
- Hold down the power button while still continuing to hold down the volume down button
From there you should go str8 to the bootloader screen rather than the splash screen.
If you get to the bootloader screen, are you able to get into the recovery from the bootloader menu?
If not, if you have access to another battery (like from a buddy's phone or somethin'), I would prolly see if that makes any difference in terms of being able to charge for more than 2 seconds, etc. Perhaps maybe even try a different charging cable as well. That way you can completely rule out faulty battery and/or charging cable.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Well can you charge your battery in a different phone ?? Or via external charger?? Or if what I'm reading is true about cwm then I'd say pick up a spare battery or figure a way to charge your battery without it being in the phone. I mean it seems like your battery is just dead but your phone is ok. The few times you get a little power is from just letting the battey sit but its not enough to boot into anything. I'm just taking a shot here but that's what it seems like.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
So, I'm running Ognimnella's 3D Anorexia using Mac kernel, no tweaks, no overclock other than what the kernel is set as for stock, 1.56Ghz I believe. I checked; No water damage either. Last night I remapped my search key to recent apps, and this morning was looking for a way to re-implement the search key function somewhere else. So, I was looking for a way to remap the long press to no avail. Eventually i started looking around in the sys/usr files for something referencing the long press home button to bring up APP_SWITCH so i could remap that to SEARCH and didn't really find anything. However I found a file, I can't remember the name, I don't even know if it's relevant, where the camera button functions were located. I attempted to remap the "FOCUS" key to SEARCH and saved the text, and rebooted to apply changes, (possibly, I didn't even know if it was going to work).
However after leaving it sit for around 2-3 minutes while otherwise occupied, I came back expecting to find it booted up however it was still off. I attempted to turn the phone on, no cigar. Plugged it into my charger. No red light. Nothing. Tried to boot into bootloader. No beans. Tried to use ADB to "adb reboot-bootloader" and it says "no device found." And when I plug it into my computer a strange 3-beep comes through, kinda like when you normally connect a usb, but 3 fast beeps instead of two. I also downloaded the [UNBRICK] file from the sticky and Unknownforces all in one tool and tried em both out in Ubuntu. Neither one of their tools detects my phone after plugging it in. I've tried battery pulls, leaving the battery out for 20 minutes, leaving it on the charger for a half hour, trying to boot without the SD in, and even trying to press camera and volume.
Basically, am i SOL? Did I hard brick my phone, even though I wasn't even flashing anything? And finally, is there anything I could do?
did u use a cdma on gsm as far as the unbricking and do u have cdma or gsm? also were u using the room for a while or just flashed? what radios and hboot ?
Well, I'm CDMA and was hboot 1.5 juopunut S-OFF, had been for going on 3 months, and had flashed it about a day ago and everything was going fine. As to Radios, I couldn't tell you, I've never messed with that.

another possibility, are you using cwm 4.0.1.4 revolutionary or 4ext recovery? Those are the only 2 recoveries that support charging the phone while it is off.
If you can jump start your battery a little with a 9v and paperclip, might help you boot up to recovery. That or borrow a sensation owners battery to test.
How would i go about doing that?
By the way, I am using TWRP 2.2 and was at 97% when I restarted my phone, and it was early morning and I had just pulled it off the charger ~10 minutes before. Could it have been a bad charge?

oh, twrp should support off mode charge as well, soo hmmm.
The reset combo when phone freezes to just restart, not erase is volume up+down and power held together for 10 or so seconds.
Someone also said to hold camera button when plugging in, then try powering on.
No dice on either method. I'm pretty sure I'm sol, and am going to have to buy a cheapo phone off of eBay if I can't convince a Sprint rep to replace it. But I don't know. Thanks though! I aappreciate it.
Hey,
I have the same issue.
I have another HTC Evo 3d and can verify the battery is fully charged.
However when I put in my other Evo 3d it wont turn on.
Plugging in the cable to a charger does nothing and no LED ever comes on.
However my charger turns different colors when charging and the led turns from green to yellow when i plug the broken evo 3d in so something (current being drawn) is happening but the EVO and the LED just won't turn on. I unlocked the bootloader but the phone is still on Sprint Stock Rom.

Fried motherbooard. Happened to me
So i have had my EVOLTE for a while now (3rd one) and currently I was running OMJ's JB Sense Rom. Everything was working fine, but in the past day, my phone was a little laggy, so I downloaded another ROM and Kernel, and set my phone down to let it download.
I noticed that the phone was getting a little hot, but thought that when downloading large files, it sometimes did. Later I went back to check on the phone while it was on the charger, and it seemed to be going fine, but when I unplugged it, the phone turned off, and now will not turn back on.
The soft button lights will flash when I hold up and power or down and power, but the screen never comes on, and sometimes it will randomly vibrate. Ive been trying to fix it using the unlimited.io ubuntu tools, but I cant get any of them to recognize it as being plugged into the USB. My laptop just keeps seeing it as an MTP device. I am rooted but not S-OFF...

I've got nothing, then. Doesn't sound like a total brick, though, especially since the capacitive buttons light up. If you can let the battery die, plug your phone up and see if it will charge. This would be a good sign, in my opinion. Was your battery low when you were trying to flash the ROM?

when i hold down the up and power buttons together, the bottom lights flash until it appears to go off and then it appears to reboot, by vibrating like it usually does upon boot, but that is the last thing that happens. The screen never appears to even come on...

No it was charged. I was running the ROM for about a day and then late last night it just turned off while in use.

when i hold down the up and power buttons together, the bottom lights flash until it appears to go off and then it appears to reboot, by vibrating like it usually does upon boot, but that is the last thing that happens. The screen never appears to even come on...

You need to hold the power and volume DOWN buttons after doing the battery pull reset. That should get you into the bootloader.

If the lights still blink, then the device isn't dead. I'd throw it on the charger and forget about it for a few hours, and then try to get into HBOOT again.
It was on the charger from 10 pm till 8am and still nothing is happening... Thanks for all of your help
After the lights stop blinking hold down the volume down button. It should get you to bootloader. I've been on the same place as you with me HOX and it worked for me

THanks but alas, yes I have tried this a bunch of times. Is it possible when it got hot that it fried something?

Sounds like your phone works but your screen is dead...phone should not get hot like that.

Trying powering it on again, and connect it to a PC. See if the PC recognizes it at all. That will help determine whether the device is on, and your screen is burnt out, or if something else is wrong. If it does acknowledge a device was plugged in, try an "adb devices" to see if adb can see the device.
If the screen doesn't come on at all, you should have no problem taking it to Sprint and getting a replacement.
