[Q] SGS 2 is not charging anymore - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have been monitoring the charging progress while the phone is connected with charger. It seems the phone is not charging and the remaining battery is dropping fast. I have tried with normal charger as well as USB charging but nothing works. Any help would be appreciated.

Backup data factory reset .No cure = service centre .
jje

Also the phone gets heats up alot while charging.

[Q] Galaxy S3 charging problem?

So i bought my SGS3 (marble white) a few days ago and it was working perfectly fine. A few days ago my phone suddenly stopped charging. I rebooted the phone and it was charging again. Last night it again stopped charging. I again rebooted but this time it did not fix the problem.
I know that the charging port of the phone is not damaged as phone works perfectly fine when connected to a pc via usb cable and charges.
And i have never ever plugged in a non-genuine accessory to its micro usb port. Not even a dock!
Anyone with a similar problem or cure?
edit: software update fixed it in my case.

I will not say I have a cure, but I am facing the same problem, sometimes I have to reboot twice for it to start charging.
Guru's kindly look into the issue and help us, this happens in both the cases, while charging for adapter or while charging from USB.

Well not exactly, it does not happen when i plug the phone into a usb port.
It happens with the charger but, now my phone is not just recognizing the charger. I have rebooted twice, thrice but still the same problem.
I'm having a similar problem,
Charging when -
phone on
power save on - WIFI/data and most other things are off
charges 2% per hr with official charger (wall socket)
Charging when -
phone OFF!
40% per hr with official charger (wall socket)
Haven't really tried the PC USB charging yet,
But i have noticed that my battery info page says the phones been on battery for
2 days 22hrs, Very strange as i have charged and attempted to charge the phone more than 10 times in the past 24hrs.
Anyone also noticed the on battery time to be wrong?
i got this problem yesterday too , restart then its ok , weird ...
before reboot the battery icon shows charging icon but its not charging at all
does charging a battery run a software too ?
why you guys not reporting the issue in samsung mobile showroom from where you bought the mobile and take a use of your warranty card?

My mobile is no more in warranty as I have rooted my phone, will have to come back to stock rom for me to claim warranty, that's why I am waiting for someone to provide solution before I return back to stock rom for warranty claim.
Sounds like it's an issue with the charger, rather than the phone.

I thought it was best to ask here before i contact orange to report the problem, as i really didn't want to send the phone back to them if its something i could have fixed
I'm doing a factory reset and if it still has charging problems i will call orange today.
I'm facing the same problem. It started about 2 weeks ago.
I tried different chargers but no hope. the only way to charge it is via a usb port.
I had this problem once on the first day I got my phone. Worked fine though with an iphone charger with the samsung usb cable. Have any of you guys tried that?

I thanked your post accidentally while trying to quote you
The batterystats.bin file only resets itself after a full charge to 100%. That's the file that's responsible for showing all the battery usage info. So if you just keep topping up your phone without letting it charge to 100%, the battery statistics will be from the last full charge. If you see the graph you'll see it rises everytime you charge and then falls when you take it off charge. It cumulatively shows the amount of time you've used the phone on battery since the last full charge, regardless of how much you charge it in between. When you let it charge fully to 100% and unplug it, the battery stats file will be reset and give you a correct reading.

I'm having a similar issue, only difference to what you guys are having is that my SIII start charging via the normal charger if its been in USB for a bit, like 2-5 min. I tried the rebooting, nothing. it only charges through USB 1st, then it will work via the stock charger, I've tested it on another charger aswell, and the samsung car charger.
I really hope there is a quick fix, becuase I dont want to send it in for repairs, as cellphone providers in SA arent the best.
I had a similar problem with my gtab 2 10.1 but the wall charger is to blame

Is the battery removable? tried taking it out and putting it back in after 5 mins? If this is happening to a brand new phone from the shop, you should really just go and return it instead of trying to fix it yourself...
I had the same issue with my old phone, an lg optimus one p500. I was a soldier then. The phone didn't charge at all. The very next morning when shops opened, I returned it and the problem was with the charging pins. The battery and charger was fine but pins would not draw voltage from the battery. I bet you can remove the battery, plug the charger and switch it on.
Anyway, return it to the shop without delay and demand that you get a new one.

Galaxy SII charging even when Not connected to a charger

Hey guys i've been using my S2 fr a year & a half now . I didn't quite face any issues before but now
after i updated it to the UK Jellybean as it took a lot of time to reach India .
I've got this issue that when i charge my phone & disconnect it , it still shows on charge & gains a lot of heat .
When the device is switched off & charged it restarts on its own & then switches off & starts charging & when needed to ON the phone it has to be connected to the charger , or else it won't start but just show the charging icon ( as it shows when the phone is charged when switched off).
I did a factory reset but all efforts in vain .
Please Help ....
Boot into clockworkmod Recovery , go to Advanced and try wiping the battery Stats. Maybe that could help.
Try another battery in the first instance given how long you've had the phone, also clean the battery contacts on the phone carefully with a cotton bud or similar & isopropyl alcohol. If those two things don't help, could be the USB/charging circuitry on the way out (which is a problem we see on here fairly frequently).

[Q] Weird battery and screen issues

Hey guys and gals
this is my first post here. although a lot here is about rooted devices with custom ROMs, I hope you can help me out - you sure have a lot of expertise here compared to many other forums.
For the past two days I've been running into some of the weirdest problems with my Galaxy S2. Before i go into detail, here is the summary:
1. Screen time-out doesn't work while device is not plugged to a charger or computer
2. Notification shows 100% charge for a very long time (hours after heavy usage)
3. Not sure if charging actually works
4. Booting up seems to fail when not connected to a charger
it started yesterday when I noticed the phone light up and say it was charging. The problem is it wasn't - it was in my pocket.
Then I noticed that the screen didn't time out. I changed the setting, nothing - it remained on. I could push the power to make the screen turn off and on again but it wouldn't time out itself.
The charging info went away... at some point. I left it to charge over night and in the morning it indeed showed 100% in the notification bar. The problem is it remained 100% for A LONG time. In the settings menu under the battery it says it has been running on batter for 0 secs and showed 100% charge. For hours... There were no info about any apps or function using the battery. that part was clear.
Then i discovered that the screen time out problem goes away while connecting the charger or via USB to a PC. Then it times out. As soon as i unplug the charger it never times out....
I'm actually not sure if the charging works. Indeed it shows charging but sometimes it magically reaches 100% rather quickly.
Because I suspected a battery fault I used another battery. let it drain completely and then tried to recharge. Can't - when booting it shows a battery icon with question mark and then goes to show that the battery is 100% charged. Then the question mark and then 100% again. Seems to be in some sort of loop.
I've done the factory reset, I had a new firmware installed via Odin just in case. The problem still remains.
Booting the device seems to be an issue and only work with charger or USB cable attached. Ot it will be in that "what battery" and "100% charge" cycle...
I've searched high and low today but couldn't find anyone with the same problem.
Have any of you an idea? Really down't want to get a new phone! Seems to be a very bad month going on because a few weeks ago I had really serious issues with my brand new hybrid camera which i have to buy ... again! sold it for parts for pocket money....
Any help would be really appreciated! thanks!
That's really strange....try getting out the battery, charge it to max va an external charger,or borrow a friend's Galaxy S2.Leave the phone withou battery for an hour. Then when you put it in,go to recovery, and "wipe battery stats"(Root it if it's not).See if that works.

How long have you had the phone? The usb flex cable has issues over time. A symptom of this is the charging when not connected to the charger.
If it is this issue the part is cheap (around 5$ I believe).

Screen Stays on when Charging

ok ive been dealing with this problem for awhile.
Whenever im plugged in and charging(possibly when im at full battery) either the screen stays on or randomly pulses back on. Tends to be the first which is a big problem
because either with the screen on high it drains the battery to dead slowly or overheats crashes the phone but still continues to drain the battery. Which is a big pain in the ass with
the recharge time when you drain the battery to dead(wall charger)
Its lasted through several different roms and reset tp original rom.
Yes ive turned off the dev setting
thanks.

I'm just guessing but it can be cable fault. Try it with another cable or even different charger to see if the problem is still present. If yes and you are still under warranty i would recommend to take it to the service center.
There is a "developer" option about this on the settings, so you can toggle it on or off while you're charging. Please verify! : )

see above
i guess no one reads the entire post.
Well the problem has morphed even worse, if i shutdown the phone and leave it plugged in it wont charge but the battery charging screen will drain the battery.

Check dev settings or DL factory reset
sorry guys but i really have to say holy **** twice ive said i've checked the DEV SETTINGS.
but i realize im not going to get any actual help with this odd problem here.
As @Jecmenn said earlier, it seems like a broken cable or the connection between the micro USB cable and the phone isn't perfect, like it is connecting and disconnecting over and over. Try another cable, if it doesn't help, the phone's USB is damaged. And easy pal, being rude won't help you.
