Hi Guys,
Probably someone has asked same question, but would it be available for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 soon?

The trick to getting ice cream sandwich on the tab is to put ice cream on the screen, then put cookies on both sides, then search the forum before you post.

+1 this is a great idea
Why is it people buy a media consumption device yet consume no media on it? One Google search, or one simple scroll would have netted you the answer you were looking for.
But, since my toilet is really comfortable I have a few minutes for ya. ICS- will not be released for another month or two. Then you have to wait for Samsung to adapt it to their UI, so basically you have about 2 to 19 months until you will see it on your tab.

Well i hope it is released in October. But yes it will be months later until Samsung codes it in for the gtab.
There has to be a word for the particular kind of nerdhood that Android tablets seem to engender. People who buy a $500 gadget only to obsess over installing the next version of its operating system.
Dissatisfied?
Me .... I'm fine with my Tab, although I'd be happy if I were to receive an update that improves the Tab further.
CM8. That's all.

ICS Upgrade
Why all the hostility...This is what forums are meant to be, sharing information. You have I would like to have and Vice versa. Also are we not all always looking for the next evolution in the OS and it's new features. Yes I what my 500.00 dollar toy to have the best it could handle.
+1
I would hardly call Samsung's 3.1 incarnation a smooth experience. Yes it works, but regular force closes are becoming annoying. So, personally, I would love to see ICS available for the Tab 10.1, and perhaps more importantly, the ICS source being made available for the devs to get to work
I'm seriously thinking of buying the 5" version of the media player BUT I noticed it comes with FROYO?? Has there been any official upgrade OR some kind of stable ROM for it? A simple response and maybe a point in the right direction for the ROM would be AWESOME and much appreciated. THANKS!
I just bought one (USA) and it came with gingerbread.

I don't know where you got that information, but the US 5.0 has Gingerbread, and there is a custom ROM as well in the development section of this forum.

No the international/Europe version came with Froyo 2.2 as did mine when i brought it (Uk) but there is now a official update for Gingerbread by Samsung for this device
the USA version came shipped with Gingerbread from day one
I need advice about which galaxy player to buy? The 4.0 looks nice, but maybe I should wait for the 4.2, or get a 5.0? I'm confused.
Either 4.2 will come ready with gingebread but hasnt got much hardware improvements so theyre equal.
Do you think the 4.2 will get ice cream sandwich?

Yes, if you read the other (new) thread about the 4.2 device, you can see that it will be launched with android 2.3
I got the 5.0 because I already have a 4.3" phone.
The 4.0 has a better sound chipset and replacable battery. The 5.0 has a bigger screen and seems to have slightly more developer attention.

Im looking for a good tablet, but i dont know who i should pick.
I want it to have good specs and run ICS.
Would also be good if it has a good developer community, easily rootable and may roms and mods to back it up.
Sorry if my english is bad
Thanks in advance!

Google nexus tablet coming out in a month or two... is a good option if youre willing to wait.
motorola xoom has everything your looking for!
Acer Iconia =)
I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1. I´m deeply contended.
The only thing that sucks is the update policy of samsung. I´m waiting for the update to 4.0 for month.
So, if you chose a Samsung tab, take the newer generation wich has 4.0 as stock.
Galaxy Tab
I have a Galaxy Tab 8,9 and love it!
It will get ICS soon.
I think this is the best platform to develop because the screen has a middle size for a tablet (>7" and <10"), so you can have a good idea of how your apps will be rendered on various screen sizes.
I would wait and see what Google has in store for the upcoming Nexus tablet.

There isn't one right now. In my opinion, ASUS makes the best but I've yet to see an Android tablet that doesn't have lag. I'm not an Apple fan but I can clearly see that iPad leads the way in the tablet market. I love Android, but there has yet to be a tablet produced that matches the iPad as far as performance/usability goes.
Having said that, I'm super excited for the Nexus tab. If it is everything it's being cracked up to be, it'll be the first Android tablet worth buying.
BTW...I have a Xoom, Transformer TF101, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and 2 Kindle Fire's...I'm not just blowing off steam here.

How good for you to consider as "good"? dual-core or quad-core?
Also, do you care whether it's 7" or 10"?

For 7", Google Nexus (made by Asus) and Acer A110 are supposed to be real good. I would pick the Nexus.
For 10", we will have Toshiba (geez, I forgot the model# ), the Asus Pad, the Sammy Galaxy Tab 2.
galaxy tab 10.1
or acer iconia tab
tested both and theyre really awesome
I love the Galaxy Tab 2. It just depends on what you want to do with it.

Hy Man Wait till The New Nexus Tablets come out It'll be Cheap With Good Specs
U can chk my thread to know abt the Sony Nexus Tablet http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1712105
I'd wait for the Nexus or to get a tablet that has reliable custom ICS rom. Just to avoid having to wait on a vendor to provide you with updates.
Acer iconia a series. I have the a500. Many roms to chose from. Flexreaper rocks.
Howevere if your willing to wait the google nexus (asus nexus) is soon to be released and it promises to be a very affordable powerhouse.

99.99% certain that we don't get it officially, but there is a high possibility that cm10 will find the way to our tab!
but as kilometers4 said we should wait for ics first.

Agreed.... Just shoot me now......
The rumour is that we get ICS in August 2012 or 15 months after official Google announcement. So if there is a chance to get JB, add another 15 months to the official Google announcement (is gonna happen in few days) and you have the Samsung release date of September 2013.
jb uses same drivers as ics... It's still android 4 it's like froyo and gb... so for sure cyanogenmod and aokp + kangers will release jb for us and samsung can go to h....

Afaik the driver model has not changed from Android 1.0 to 4.0, it's still all linux. 5 years old linux drivers work on new systems.

I am --- on my Nexus 7. Sold my Nook Color and my Galaxy Tab Plus is on Craigslist as I type. Not sure what to do with the GT10.1, though... I still love this tab (and unless the difference between ICS and JB is as big as between HC and ICS, I give two ****s if Samsung gives us the 4.1 update...).

This is because Samsung refuses to release the source code for the camera driver, so you cannot compile it with an alternate kernel. The driver would work for ICS if we had the source code.
Jb has been ripped already according to reports, so we shall see
Are you f'ing kidding me? I knew as soon as I saw the Google io release about jelly bean everyone would start asking this question.
A) how bout waiting for ICS first, then worry about an official update from 4 to 4.1.
B) According to Google it won't be much different, you can do all that 4.1 does with a launcher or a ROM
C). 4.1 will be an easier transition to accomplish whereas 3.5 to 4.0 is a harder undertaking thus the long wait.
D). With the injunction placed on the 10.1 in CA there will be no more galaxy tabs 10.1 for sale in the US anyway assuming Samsung doesn't win an appeal.
E). Its time to upgrade to a new tablet soon, ASUS has some amazing stuff and they are QUAD CORE! Compared to our two.
F). Once we get our cameras working on official ICS who cares anymore??? We will never get 5.0 officially so for me my tab ends at official ICS . CM9 is good now..cm10, cm 11 will suit your needs just the same.....
I am very sure we are gonna get jelly bean on our tab since the drivers for jelly bean and ice cream sandwich are the same, so Samsung only has to do very small things to get jelly bean to our tab. The reason why its taking so long for ice cream sandwich to come to our galaxy tab is that ics is a major revision and lots of drivers need to be updated.

The drivers are the same for Gingerbread, Honeycomb and ICS. There is no new driver model. These are all Linux drivers and the driver model does not change. Since Samsung has not released the Source Code for the Camera driver, and this Camera is not used for any other Tablet there is no Cyanogen camera support for the 10.1 tab.
The only reason there is no official ICS for Galaxy Tab 1 is the presence of Galaxy Tab 2 (with almost identical hardware, but a different camera), which has ICS. Samsung hopes to make some more money on users who don't want to wait and ditch the Tab 1 for the Tab 2.
Sammy will indeed update the tab to jelly bean in the year 2016, stand-by for further announcements. :highfive:
Guys this is Samsung's first flagship tablet....so Sammy 'll lose its already bad update release status completely if it lets down our tab.
With nexus tab given to azus Sammy 's got one less tablet to code for.
" THEN WHY THE F'kin HELL DOES SAMSUNG HOLD BACK UPDATES?????"
Damn frustated man.....

I believe once the JB is officially released the migration from AOKP/CM9 to it would be very smooth except for camera driver which has it's well known issue..
