Rooting a samsung galaxy s2

im trying to unlock it to all networks but first got to root it, now downloaded the files and tried to get the correct insecure kernal but cant find the exact one (i9100bvkh1), now when i try load an insecure kernal i open odin and select pda but the file types (md5,tar,smd) are not the file type that the kernal is so cannot select it. Tried renaming the files without any look.
Can any one help me out here?
Your two main choices are [03.11.2011][CF-Root 4.4] KE*, KF*, KG*, KH1/3/4, KI2/3/4/8, KJ1/2 - su+bb+CWM4] and [30/OCT][ROOTING/UNROOTING] Xperia 2011 Easy Rooting Toolkit [v1.0](zergRush Exploit).
Hard to know where you're getting stuck because I don't know what you downloaded, but assuming you use the first method, as per the instructions, you have to unzip the attachment which leaves you with a .tar file you can flash.
Please, please, please, don't just rename files and try and flash them.
Thanks for the reply mate, do I need the kh2 kernel as it isn't on there?

If you're struggling at this stage, I think you should consider stopping what you're doing and walking away before you destroy your phone.
Sorry ignore me made a mistake it is the kh2 where do I get this kernel from can only see 1,3,4 etc
Not being funny make but usually things like this are easy but just confusing me as It isn't a file type come not hard to open a file up in a program but can't if it don't show
Right the kernel isbvkh2 and android version is 2.3.3 which kernel should i download?

[Q] ICS NEE

I have a question about flashing the NEE (Nordic) version of ICS I'd like to sort out.
Inside my downloaded ZIP-file, only 2 files reside;
I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5 and a DLL-file that I have no idea what it's for.
But here comes my question, in every guide I read, they say I should pick and choose PDA, Phone and CSC. Files which I don't have. (Nor are they inside the tar-file listed above), so what to do?
First things first, make a new thread, ignoring the zillion other threads.
Then stick the .tar.md5 file in the PDA section and ignore the .dll.
Later on, make new threads about every problem you encounter rather than reading and searching.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm actually not one of the people who thinks im the only one to have a question or problem, but I actually looked quite a few pages back and also tried to search for several keywords without finding anything useful. Sorry for my ignorance, I need to learn to search better. Again though, thanks.
And to add to my stupidness, as I couldn't find anything about that either, will this file automagiclly include CSC and Phone?

So much easier from mobile odin, you just have to chose that one file and flash and it puts everything where you want. Try mobile odin from market (play w/e)

I got the same ROM from Fus Downloader and tried to flash it with heimdall. Tried several times, it sill complained the file was wrong or corrupt when reading/extracting it. Could it be that fus has a problem with this file?

[Q] GS3 cant flash in download mode with odin

Hi guys I would really appreciate some help with a problem I have with my UK GS3 1900. I have recently rooted and flashed it with a couple of different roms courtesy of the info on this forum and have been using lucky patcher to remove ads and license verification on a few apps I was trying. I installed SPB shell recently and used Lucky patcher on it and it seemed to have worked but this morning there was a message saying there was a problem with the license and to download another one from the playstore. Then my phone rebooted and it got stuck on boot logo so I tried to enter recovery holding down power+home+volume up but this wouldnt give me the recovery screen. I have read a lot of articles about how to reflash it with Odin but I am a little confused. I am trying to flash it with the zip file firmwares I downloaded but this obviously doesnt work as it is asking for .tar or .bin files and none of these show up when I am using ODIN. What firmware would I need to download to give me these files and then using Odin how would I install it. Any help is appreciated I have looked at all the threads before I posted this and cant find a solution. Some say to use pit files but I wasnt sure which ones and I didnt want to mess things anymore.

GT-I9300_I9300XXDLI8-OTA-I9300XXBLG8_BTU_297718496 this is the file I downloaded originally and then from another post I found this file I9300XXELL4_I9300OXAELL4_I9300XXELL4_BTU downloaded and there was KIES_HOME_I9300XXELL4_I9300OXAELL4_566833_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 this file in there and when I went to flash it with ODIN it came up with an error message and it fails in Odin. Is this the correct file cos when I went into the sammobile site put it my device details it gave me a 250mb file which never had a tar or md5 file in it.
It says on sammobile download .
I9300XXELL4_I9300OXAELL4_BTU.zip | 821.5 MB
Do not post WAREZ theft of developers stuff on XDA .
have been using lucky patcher to remove ads and license verification.
As your problems stem from stealing apps from developers i do not wish to give further help .

I pulled this from the new 4.4.4 NK4/N900PVPUDNK4_SPR zip
Its just baseband. Odin flashable tar file.
Do the following and you should be good.
1) download the NK4 tar file from the link below.
2)Power your device down completely using the 3 button combo (Power,Volume down,Home button.
3)Fire up Odinv3.09 UNCHECK auto reboot and load your tar into slot AP and hit start.
4)After it does its thing and shows its done unplug your usb cord and pull your battery.
5)Leave your battery out for 10sec. and put it back in.
6)Use your 3 button combo once more to boot into Download mode.
7)This time make sure to check auto reboot.
8)Load the same tar file again and flash.
After its done you should be good to go. Basically I'm just using the steps suggested by freeza on the NH7 Baseband update. So give that guy thanks too while your at it.
Heres a link to the full release of NK4 when it was brought to us by shadowcliffs http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/stock-rom-n900pvpudnk4-released-t2987901 to see what all the fuss is about. Give shadowcliffs thanks for bring this to us when you get over there and any of the other guys if you find there info useful.

Is their a NK4 flashable kernel zip floating around anywhere yet ?
Alright Goat.. Thank you for this..
In the past, at least on my former Nexus devices, I was able to just flash new radios via a zip in recovery without needing to go home and hook up to my PC to use Odin - is that possible with the Note 3 as well?
I'm at work and would love to just download the radio and update in recovery if possible.

No sir, didn't work for me but I'm not using the recommended route, I'm using Mobile Odin Pro.
When I open Philz Touch tar.md5 file (which contains a recovery.img file) from inside Mobile Odin, it recognizes that it's a recovery partition image and "pre-loads" it into that partition slot for flashing. But when I open the nk4 baseband tar.md5 file (which contains a modem.bin file) in Mobile Odin it says "Partition could not be found in file".

SOFT BRICK can't use smart switch or odin to flash stock rom

Hey!
I first got my galaxy s6, model; SM-G920I around start of May 2015 and I rooted via CF autoroot a few days after.
Haven't done much since, however, today I decided I wanted to update my software to lollipop 5.1 and to do that I first had to unroot via SuperSU and then update via Smart Switch.
After all the preparations were completed in Smart Switch, my device failed during the process, sending me to the cyan screen saying, "An error has occured while updating the device software..." .
This incident rendered my device unrecognizable by Smart Switch and since then I have not been able to flash the stock SM-G920I ROM via odin, as it always FAILS.
tl;dr
-rooted phone
-unrooted phone for software update
-device failed during smartswitch process
-cannot flash stock via odin
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
[EDIT]: I cannot get into recovery mode
