[Q] Startup and shutdown sounds - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. My first post here after being a lurker for a long time.
This question is rather silly, but I'm wondering if it's normal or not. Since receiving my Tab 10.1, I noticed the startup sound is very quiet despite the system volume being at full. I've tried listening to the actual sound file after rooting it and it plays fine at a loud volume (1_Power_on.ogg under system/etc).
Most people seem to hate the startup sound and delete the file on their phones, but I'd actually like to have it play loud. I have the same sound on my Galaxy S II phone and I've tried coping it over, but it still plays quiet. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the file at all. Are all tabs behaving this way or is it just mine?
Also, I noticed a PowerOff.ogg sound under system/media/audio/ui, but it does not seem to play at all. Similarly on my phone, the Shutdown.ogg file does not play either. I remember on my old Galaxy S (not II) the shutdown file would play on Froyo and Eclair, but after the Gingerbread update it never played anymore.
So does anyone have any idea on what I can do with this trivial issue? FYI I am running Honeycomb 3.1 with the Touchwiz update. Build number HMJ37.UEKME P7510UEKME. The update added a shutdown animation, but no sound.

It does the same thing to me on a vanilla 3.1 ROM. I think the startup sound is set to play at a constant volume, no matter what.

[Q] Audio issues? Anyone else?

Just wanted to know if anyone else have audio issues. I'll explain.
When I leave my tablet to sleep some minutes, or a while, or some hours, sometimes after resuming it, it will not have sound anymore. And actually, any attempt of playing sounds (for example...the keyboard "tick" sound..) will make my tablet to play "SHSHSHHSHSHSHSHSH" (noise..) for about 4 or 5 seconds. This will repeat everytime I try to play something. The fix is to reboot, but its kinda depressing showing off the tablet and it fails like that D: LOL
Thanks!
last bump? Anyone?
I have not - it could be a hardware defect. Have you tried it in stock (or are you in stock right now?)
A few users have mentioned audio static at times, but I have never had this issue.
Never any problems since buying the tablet in late November. I would exchange the unit wherever you bought it.

That's exactly what mine is doing. After the reboot, it's fine...makes me think it's not hardware. I'm running TNTlite 3.1.2. Didn't have it in 2.4. What are you running? Also running the lag patch.
This actually just happened to me yesterday -- the "SHSHSHSHSHSHS" static playing quite loud. I muted all sound (i.e. Silent Mode) and it stopped -- but when I re-enabled sound and started an app with music, it returned.
BTW: I am running Vegan Beta 4...
Rebooted and it has gone away (for now) -- but I notice something strange now...
Perhaps someone else can reproduce this:
1) Put tablet in Silent mode (from settings, not via Volume rocker)
2) No sounds should be heard when clicking any apps in drawer, home button, etc.
3) Re-enable sound from Sound settings (Turn OFF Silent mode)
4) Using the volume rocker, turn the volume all the way down until it is supposed to be "OFF" (Media Volume Speaker is grey and has an "X" beside it)
5) Click on any apps in drawer, you should hear a very faint "click" when you select that shouldn't be there normally
Interestingly, it also happens for some touches of the capacitive "hard" buttons -- mainly Menu and Back since almost all apps have those options. "Home" and "Search" do not seem to trigger sounds...
A strange glitch to be sure but one I can live with (it's Beta software after all) -- wondering if anyone else has this as well?
**UPDATE: Weird...While the above problem still exists, I noticed that sound seems to play properly (i.e. without static, noise, etc) when you go into the Sound settings menu, select Volume, and turn OFF the "Use incoming call volume for notifications" -- which gives you an extra slider to set. After setting that slider to any value, the problem hasn't reappeared and sound seems clean (so far)
Perhaps not having the "phone" functions in the tablet borked the setting? Nothing to read from? And force assigning a value helps?
It happened to me for the first time yesterday watching videos on CNN. I believe it was the video about Brett Farve getting fined for not cooperating with the NFL. I stopped the video and started again, and it was fine from that point on.
Same here on zpad ...except no shhhh sound or whatever just silence when trying to play music....so annoying
actually even a reboot isn't fixing it now...still no sound at all
well im glad im not alone, i dont think its a hardware issue

Fwiw i flashed vegans latest build and probem is fixed for now...zpad ws causijg me all kinds of hell....but i liked it best
FYI: The "Shshshshshsh" came back on my GTablet last night and it was LOUD...
Had to reboot to get it to clear...muting sound didn't seem to work to stop it...
Will be flashing Vegan Beta 5.1 so hopefully it will go away with a Wipe...
Same problem here too... even happened in VEGAN 5.1 last night so I flashed to TNT Lite 4.0 and it happened there as well.
This happens when I use Fring. I get an extremely loud noise from connection till close. Since we are discussing sound issues, I'm not getting any sound from my avi files. It shows beautifully but no sound. I tried many players but no success. Anyone experience this?
Scott
I only get sound from ac3 encoded avi files when using rockplayer software decoding.
I get a constant low static noise thru headphones. Also a pop sound every now and then.
Sent from my GTablet-TnT-Lite using Tapatalk
I occasionally get a nonstop static SHHHHHH that is only corrected by rebooting. Had it with every version of TnTlite, never happened when I had vegan
So hardware or software problem? Is anyone for sure yet?
now mine is doing something else strange....media volume, when hitting hte rocker is stuck on silent....when I go into sounds, make sure silent is off....and increase media volume under volume....then hit ok...I go back into volume and it has reverted back to 0%....can't figure it out...
vegan 5.1 with cleymson kernel
Same issue here. I have actually had it happen while using it from a fresh boot...no sleep

[Q] Weird sound issues on Vibrant

Hey,
I've had the Vibrant for a couple months now but its been having a weird sound issue as of late where the sound just dies.
The sound stops working randomly and its frustrating because I don't know what causes it. Whats odd is that he ringtones still work if I go to test them in the Sound settings (only the stock ringtones) but all other media doesn't work. Jukefox tells me the music file type is unsupported and the on-phone music player tries to play them then skips to the next over and over.
The only solution I have for this currently is to reboot the phone then the sound works for a random amount of time before it happens again. The only way I find out is when someone calls me and it vibrates instead of the ringtone.
Any ideas? This is quite frustrating. I've also done a factory reset and the problem persists. I'm under the impression it might be a 3rd party app.

[Q] CM7 Thunderbolt sound problem

I wasn't able to post on the dev. part of the TB forum since I don't have 10 posts, I searched and couldn't find anything that really fit my problem.
My problem; I've been on CM7 for maybe a month now and it's starting to drive me crazy. When I'm listening to the radio or music or something at work and a notification sound plays, well it doesn't really play it just makes my music go silent for a few seconds then continues to play my music. That's a little annoying but I learned to live with it, but more times than not when I get a text or any other sound that will play over what I'm listening to my sound completely cuts out and doesn't come back, I hear a sort of static sound so I have to restart my phone. I ended up disabling all notification sounds so it doesn't do that but sometimes when I even load up skype when it has that sound play it does it. What would the problem be? any help would be great, thank you so much!
A little question, this is my first time installing a rom, lets say I want to update it, I get the latest kernal, that doesn't wipe everything on my phone right? It's basically just like an update? Again thank you so much!
CM7 is amazing, thank you for putting your time and effort into making it!

installing a kernel will not wipe your rom, but installing a rom will wipe out the kernel you had previously to whatever comes with the rom. It's also better to post questions generally here than the developer's forum.
FWIW I'm on stock rooted and every now and then I'll lose the mp3 player sound (player will show its playing, but no sound from headphones or back speaker) after the phone rings or some other alert goes off, and the only way I've found to get the mp3 player to provide sound again is to reboot.
So this might problem might not be limited to CM7.

Ringtones & Notifications play through speaker instead of headphones

On my Nexus S with ICS 4.0.3 I noticed a behaviour which I find a little bit annoying and useless. When I have headphones plugged in, the output for Music & Games etc. goes through them, as expected. However, Ringtones & Notifications, as well as Alarms, still go through the speaker. So when you listen to Music in the Subway, or wherever, and someone calls you, the Music will suddenly be muted via the headphones and then the phone rings through the speaker on the back, instead of your headphones.
I asked a bit around and found out, that it was always this way in Stock Android. At first I thought there may be a problem with my phone, since I didn't have this behaviour on my old HTC Wildfire. But apparently HTC deliberately changed/fixed this behaviour in HTC Sense.
Is there any way to fix this, without switching to another ROM completely (I hear CM fixed this as well for instance, but MIUI does not)? I'd like to stay at the Stock ROM for now, may be with some additional changes/extensions installed through ClockWorkMod.

This happens as well on my skyrocket and t989, is there any fix?

Music volume fluctuates when GPS speaks

So, I just recently got a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I installed the same music application to my phone that I had before (HTC Desire). I never had a problem like this before. My problem is that, while playing music, the GPS interrupts the currently playing song (which is fine), but then there is an EXTRA interruption after this which also causes the song to play at a slight low volume, THEN return to normal volume shortly after. I remember that there was an option to enable/disable volume loudness protection or whatever and I THINK this is the culprit. BUT I CAN'T FIND THIS SETTING ANYMORE!! Does anyone know a solution to this problem? This has been bugging me for FOREVER. I use my GPS often because I often drive to locations I've never been for or barely go to, so this is a REAL pain in the buttocks. -- I also will be using it for the next few days!! :crying: So I would like to fix this, but if there's no fix, I guess I can bare through it for the next few days...
Running Serenity ROM v1.2 with Ktoonsez kernel.
EDIT: Forgot to also mention that this SOMETIMES happens with notifications and such, so I do not think it is the GPS's fault either.
EDIT2: Clarification: Want to get rid of that annoying second interruption that I mentioned earlier!! --I looked in developer options, sound, and EVERYTHING....still couldn't find it...
EDIT3: I searched online and nothing popped up useful (I think I wasn't searching with the right keywords. Kept getting results referring to headset not having any sound at all which is not right.)
