[Q] How to get the latest firmware without touchwiz - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on a rooted GT10.1 with stock honeycomb 3.1.
I bought and installed a game from the market (Sprinkle) that does a force close every time I try to start it.
I emailed the game developer, and they said the 10.1 has a firmware problem that causes this, but if I update to the latest official firmware, it should be fixed.
Problem is, I don't want Touchwiz. Is there a custom ROM or kernel I can flash that will put me at the equivalent of the latest official firmware, bit without TW? I tried Pershoot's latest kernel, but I'm still getting force close with Sprinkle. I was considering Bonsai ROM, as its about the only well-established ROM that still offers a non-TW version, but will that actually fix the problem?

[Q] Cannot update 10.1 WIFI to Touchwiz UX

I recently got a 10.1 Wi-Fi. It came with the TouchWiz update preinstalled. I rolled back to stock 3.1 to see what it was like and now am trying to go back to TouchWiz.
The tablet updates from stock 3.1 to the build number UEKG4 (an ~11MB update)
After this, the tablet says No Update Available when checking for updates. Plugged in USB using the Samsung Kies program, the tablet is recognized, but there is no firmware information listed.
Stock rom, stock recovery and cannot update any further? Anyone have ideas or somewhere they can point me to resolve this?
Thanks

I believe you used the stock 3.1 ROM of a I/O tab. not the retail one.
I/O tabs have not received any TW update till now.
If you want to go back to touchwiz please flash the "ROM | 001002-P7510_KME_Restock.zip" from http://p7510.teamovercome.net/?page_id=20 using ODIN
Worked perfectly!
Thanks a ton!
i have a stock tab that i've had since a few days after they were released and dont have touchwiz and every time i look for an upgrade it says that nothing is available.... shouldnt there be one out? Am i doing something wrong? thanks for the help.

[Q] Flashing ROMs

Hi,
I am new to this area & I would like to know if :
1. One can flash any ROM irrespective of the Kernel version with which the phone was pre installed with.
2. My Samsung Galaxy S2 has the original kernel version I9100XWKF3.
I rooted it to AndyX ROM with kernel version as XXLPB
3. I found performce problems like Contacts app being very slow & crashing most of the time after installing the above. Sometimes the phone shuts down too
4. Is that because of installing a different kernel ?
5. Is there a stable version of ROM that is compatible with my kernel version.
Thanks
Nash
I think you need a few lessons in how to write lists of questions.
1). Yes, as long as it's for the correct device
2). Not a question and now you're using a ROM based on a leaked, buggy, unstable ROM - fail.
3). Not a question and see above.
4). If it doesn't happen on an unmodified stock, officially released ROM, yes, though I presume you mean ROM, not kernel.
5). Any officially released stock ROM is considered stable, otherwise Samsung wouldn't release them.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 SGH-T859 which rom?

Hello, I have the "4g" flavor white back T-Mobile version of this tab and with there being different flavors of the 10.1 I am not sure which rom to use. After rooting the phone and getting revovery installed CM downloaded and installed the wifi version of the rom. I thought I found the nightly thread of the tmo version but revovery wouldn't install it saying that the build version was wrong. So I have gone back to stock until I can get this issue cleared up. I think my build prop may be wrong in the device because com.phone.android force closes on boot on the stock rom (I think I need to reinstall stock). But I am still not sure which flavor of the rom to install. I want the CM ICS.
I am not new to installing and using custom roms. I have been doing this since the MT3GS and have been using CM on that since Froyo. I am currently using MT4GS and currently have the CM ICS alpha 4 on it. I am just a bit confused at this point since it is not cut and dry.

I have this one on now There are also CM9 nightlies on the CM site I believe but no issues with this other than camera. There is a camera patch also that makes the back camera work.

Here is the thread with the camera patch.

Not sure why not many people help on this device it's a very nice device and works great on the T-Mobile network but anytime I ask anything no one ever really answers.
This thread will help you get started

Thank you very much!! I think I have the wrong recovery installed which is causing all my issues. It is seeing my device as a wi-fi only device and not a tmo device.
I just got home a few minutes ago, and I had the wrong recovery installed. I got the right one in and everything is going swimmingly so far. Thank you again!
I wish there were subforums for every flavor instead of everything all mixed up. It makes it confusing when you are dealing with 80 different versions of the same device.

JellyBean on Samsung Galaxy S3

So, I've got a UK Samsung Galaxy S3, and only recently, the carriers have started to push out Jelly Bean to the device. Only Three has done it so far, but, I'm sure my network will follow suit soon.
However, I literally have just rooted my phone. I used the guide which Chainfire provided in the forum - so, CFRoot 6.4.
I have installed CWM, and also TeamWinRecoveryProject - since I preferred TeamWin's interface, and the videos which I saw of it spoke highly of its capabilities.
So, when the Jelly Bean update does come out for my carrier (EE), will I be able to keep my root? I read around on the internet that if you have CFRoot kernel, you can still perform OTA updates (EE disabled the option, anyway, sadly) without losing root.
If so - perfect.
If not, though, would it be perfectly safe to just let Samsung Kies update the firmware? I understand it will remove root capabilities, but some people have posted about conflicts arising when flashing back to stock due to the install custom recovery.
Would it be easier to just install a ROM? I'm looking at CM10, and Paranoid Android. Both are JellyBean 4.1.2 ROMS. If I install them, would that mean that my phone would update to 4.1.2? I understand these are variations, but, is flashing a rom with a higher firmware number the equivalent of updating software through OTA/Kies?
Thanks a lot for your help! Rooting newb, here...
You don't have to think like that.
Samsung official roms are not the same than AOSP (ie pure google source based) roms, like CM, aokp, pure aosp.
In Sammy roms you'll find different framework , all the samsung apps that can't all be installed on aosp roms. You must think about what you want from a rom.AOSP ones are more fast (look at the size of downloads... between 800 MB and more than a 1 GB for most sammy roms, less than 500MB for others, even less than 200 for some), each of them have specific design and features.
You can have 4.1.2 by flashing any rom now, I think most of sammy roms are now based on latest uk Sasmsung JB. Changes between 4.1.1 &nd 4.1.2 are minimal and most of them under the water for end user.
For me rooting and installing CWM and wanting to keep pure samsung offcial rom is antinomic. The spirit of rooting is to get rid of imposed manufacturer choices.
Don't think about numbers but about features.

Install CM Nightlies Rom on I545VRUAME7

So after this 4.2.2 10.2 update on the Verizon Galaxy S4 which now changed the baseband version to I545VRUAME7 I can no longer access boot recovery to install the latest 4.2.2 10.2 CM Nightlies. That I have deduced from google search.
What I do not understand is why is CM NIghtlies still releasing newer and newer 10.2 nightlies for the Verizon Galaxy S4 if you can not boot into recovery yet.
I really hate the factory operating system. Facebook never works right and I can not even use my Smoothie King APP!!! It keeps force closing. Not to mention, the keyboard is extremely slow and buggy too.
Is there something I do not know?
Thanks
Because anybody who bypassed the bootloader under the old software version (MDK) still has a bypassed bootloader, and some of them want CM10.2. It's only the stock update that breaks the bootloader exploit, not Android 4.2.2 and above in general. You can still install new ROMs to the phone forever as long as you hacked it under MDK, and never put completely stock, unrooted ME7 on it for some reason.
Your question have been answered, but I don't know how you or anyone else is having issues with the stock ROM. Any apps force closing or going slow such as facebook are not the ROM's fault, its the app itself. So you are stuck with the factory ROM for now, and who knows how long. I have been on the stock ROM and it still runs fast enough for me and i've rooted every phone I've owned since the G1.

Had the same issue on the previous 10.1 stock rom. The CM Nightlies ROM fixed my problems and made the Galaxy S4 much faster.
