[Q] So, Kpn or kpo? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi all. I've been wondering this for a while.
For you guys who have used them and know how are they...
What's the main difference between them? Which one do you recommende to use?
I was going for kpn, but suddenly some custom roms started using kpo (being able to use kpn as well)
So, which one do you recommend me ? Kpn or kpo?
In case of kpo, it should be kp7 or kp1? ( I guess it's kp1)
Thanks in advance.!

Going by the chronological order i would flash KPO ...
And the only difference between KP7 and KP1 is the CSC
KP1 has the Canada csc , where KP7 is Russian

[Q] Basics of android firmware

Hello.
I just bought this SGS2. My first android phone. So, Im not experienced with modding it yet. Im already experienced with nokias and iphones.
Well, first I bought it unlocked and I thought it was supossed to be unbranded (in fact it is) but i could not update it to the latest version. :S
Its a brazilian firmware version on uhke4.
What should I do to use (if there is any) a global firmware version (with my language of course)?
I saw in a topic here the list of firmwares. Most of them had what seems to be a localization file and then a stock kernel for each version. Is this correct? What are those "2" files?
Brazil thread ??? .

question not making sense to me sorry .

Saying Localization files I'm referring to Sony Ericssons flashing system. I was just comparing both. On the rom thread there are stock roms and other files with it on the same version. What are the difference between them? And there is a global rom for it? By this I mean a rom that's updated most.
Or in nokia terms, How can I change the product code for my gs2? I just need to flash a rom? But which one is the global rom?
bump, bump. Can we bump here?
Confusion as to Global rom ??
Most roms work in most of the world where their are exceptions it will be the modem/radio and or CSC files which are county specific settings networks keyboards etc .
All firmware versions are usually rolled out worldwide eventually .Except in specific areas mainly those that require different network bands .
The most likely to be updated is the XEU roms as it covers many Europe locations .
jje
Can I flash a different (more updated) kernel with other CSC version? Or Each kernel has its own variants (Phone, SCS files)?
A kernel is not the rom only part of the rom .
But yes you can experiment .
I have KG1 custom rom with KG2 modem homemade CSC and custom kernel .

How long Telstra take to update to 2.3.4?

So I just got the Telstra Galaxy S2 on 2.3.3
I know it takes months of testing for carriers to upgrade to a major release such as from Froyo to Gingerbread but what about just upgrading from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 how long do you reckon it would take them?
I am getting terrible battery life and want to see if 2.3.4 fixes it.
On the other hand, I realise if I cannot wait I can install the Australian stock unbranded ROM uploaded by intratech so if it takes too long I will consider that option but I just wonder what is the difference between the offical ones and the frankensteins?
It says it's for roms with multiple CSC's. But for the official XWKE7 there is only for CSC for Australia. However some users have requested the Optus CSC to be uploaded which it has.
I just wonder if you were to install the stock Australian ROM wouldnt that still work with Telsta / Optus / Voda etc? Why would users want the to have the optus CSC installed as well? I thought the idea of the stock's was to make the phone unbranded? What is the advantage of putting the Optus CSC on top of that? Is it for better network performance to make it work better with optus?
Since there is no Telstra CSC there will I be fine to install the official unbranded XWKE7 ROM and use it with Telstra?
Lastly once the Telstra modem drivers come out I could also install this onto the stock so I have the next-G optimised driver?
Thanks
CSC is mostly just apn settings for internet and mms and any Apps the carrier wanted to bundle. You can always manually enter your apn!
As far as modems go, you can seemingly use any modem with any rom/kernel, i am using the old ke7 modem with a kg3 rom.
As far as choosing a modem goes, it's a matter of trial and error to find the one which gives the best performance for you, for example 3UK just put out the KF2 modem, but it's not great for me.
2.3.4 is only available in kg builds the newest being kg6. KE7 is still a 2.3.3 build.
For me battery life improved moving into the kf's with wifi sharing frozen along with other junk but that would mean rooting.

correction in title!!! changing a BASEBAND and will it work?and how?

PLEASE READ EDIT BELOW ALSO.CHEERS
Im quite familiar with flashing and odin and flashing kernals and roms via cwm and have done it many times but what ive been noticing lately are people who have modems that dont match their firmware. This is something ive never taken notice of before since i just did the basics.A modem is the country based part as ive found out so heres my question. To have a kg6 with a spanish modem (spain being where i live) do i also have to download my countrys firmware open the kg6 for the csc and kernal files then open the other firmware for the modem?.It just sounds a bit risky although its meant to make the phone function better.Im a bit confused cos when 2.3.4 isnt even global yet ive seen S2 phones with aparrently local modems. Is it possible to use a 2.3.3 modem with 2.3.4 then??....
EDIT:Ive been reading on and seeing that its the baseband that appears to be from 2 firmwares.I have kg6 with a xxkg6 baseband but am seeing others with kg6 and basebands from completely different firmwares?!.So is it possible to mix a 2.3.3 baseband with 2.3.4 cos gingerbread insnt global officially global so how would there be regional basebands. Is it safe and does it improve the phone that much?.Im interested in learning more about it and giving it a try but not without first being a bit more informed.cheers
Any modem can be used with any rom.
I have used modem ranging from ke7 to kh3 on roms from kf2 to kg6.
As far as choosing a modem, try them all, and find one which works best for you, as far as I know modems are not county coded so a kg6 modem is a kg6 modem whatever the country code.
Csc is just mostly apn settings and bundles apps for the region, generally you can use any csc with any rom, but if you have problems most csc's cover most regions.

Thanks. What ive started noticing is that some people that have kg6 like me appear to have 2 firmwares.I saw one person for example that had a Galaxy SGS2-XXKG6-VR 2.4.2-Ninpho 2.0.5 EXACTLY like mine but my baseband is i9100xxkg6 and their baseband was xxkh3.how is that possible if you dont use 2 firmwares and what affect does it have over the operating system.i though this was the local side to it all like local operators and tower conections?how is it done safely?
Firmware version KG6 with Modem version KG1 or KH1 .
Modem is part of original rom package can be flashed separate versions are mostly interchangeable .Custom rom may have different modem version .
Modem file flashed via Odin as PHONE .

Why Kernel has nothing to do with baseband/modem .
You have a Villain rom and your dog lives in Ninphet2.2.1 .
Your modem is KG6 .
Unless you are having reception problems leave it alone .
Or if you need go to dev forum modems posts and flash whatever modem you want .

Ill say leave it, in case it does cause incompatibility issues with the ROM. Generally speaking regardless of the baseband, since do keep in mind, these phones are supposedly globally GSM compatible (except for select few CDMAers). I am using different baseband to Vodafone NZ but no reception issues. I am not 100% if VillianROM still use CSC codes, but essentially on the stock ROMs, CSC provides carrier specific settings. Check your CSC with *#12580*369#.
Mine shows up as
PDA: I9100XXKH3
Phone: I9100XXKH3
CSC: I9100VNZKG1 (the latest from Vodafone NZ) although its not KH3 but KG1.

Sgs2 Generic or CPW

Hi folks,
I bought my sgs2 from carphonewarehouse in sept cash unlocked, i have put xwk14 2.3.4 on plus oneclick, everything is ok but i cannot remember what the rom/kernal was when i bought it, i am not on a contract with cpw so just poped my o2 sim in to use the phone etc, would the phone had a cpw rom/kernal pre installed or a generic one ? can anyone tell me which ver it would of had installed
i'm pretty sure it was a 2.3.3 one - but cpw or generic i dont know, only asking as i want to flash back to day one.
thanks in advance

I bought my white sgs2 from carphonewarehouse on 24.09.11, could you or anyone else be more precice which stock rom to flash, ie, xwk7 or xwk3, i think it had 2.3.3 on it.!
I'm a complete Noob to Android, and want to try an upgrade to see if it fixes a video audio recording issue (loud static). So excuse the question if there is a FAQ somewhere I didn't find.
Currently have XWKI4, XXKI1, KH1 (CPW) which from my interpretation of the stock rom page is 2.3.4 UK - Carphone Warehouse
I can't figure which particular rom I should install for 2.3.5 - there is no CPW version, and no other version looks appropriate i.e. plain english/UK etc
Does this mean I should grab a Frankenstein rom? Just want whatever is easiest.
Cheers,
Tim
