[Q] Changes in Contacts cannot be saved occasionally on i9100 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
My phone is i9100. I find that I have made some changes to some records in Contacts and then saved the records. But I found those changes could not be saved and it reinstated after about 10 seconds. But after doing the same things the records could be saved finally. Seems like the phone has detected the record on Gmail is newer than that on the phone so that the record from Gmail overwritten the record on the phone.
Do you have this problem?
I have tried uninstalling "Go Contacts" that I thought it conflict with the stock "Contacts" program but no help.
Thanks

Need a Backup-Restore program 4 Contacts...

Hi Friends,
I am having a serious problem with contacts syncing, backup-restore...
I like trying new build android OSs & therefore I need a backup-restore application for contacts, but I can not get a perfect solution up to now...
Even gmail syncing is a disaster for me.. I don't know which way is main, phone or gmail contacts? Sometimes it is bullshitting, syncing but not all groups, no sync for photos of contacts...
My experiences:
1- MyBackupPro-v3.8: Sometimes not restoring groups, & very very slow restore
2- SpriteBackup-v2.5.0.188: Sometimes not restoring groups, & very very slow restore
3- ContactsBackupPro-v2.5.4: Restoring groups but adding " character on contacts which are not having anything on Notes section & put themon a new group "
4- Some others are having problem as restoring contact numbers; ie, I am saving my contacts as a +XX YYY ZZZ ZZZZ format, but they are restoring contacts with +XXYYYZZZZZZZ format... & some of them are not restoring saved photos for contacts.
5- PC based backup-restore: Wondershare MobileGo-v1.1.0.111 is backing up, but with destroying the number format as I've just told...
Anyway, is there any contacts backup-restore program that allows you to (correctly) do restore groups + number format + without adding anything?
Finally, I met with android with MIUI, & I miss the Backup program of MIUI's own backup application, it was very perfect.
No advice at all!!
You might want to try manually doing my making a .csv file and importing and exporting to the phone.
In my opinion, people that say that GMail conmtact sync is not working they haven't set it up right...

Thank you but I tried that also, photos are not backed up that way.
Have you tried the actual contacts app import/export? I'm not sure what info is saved by this method but I was assume it'd be a full backup.
Also, this is somewhat related so I just want to mention...
on Wednesday the Google server went wacky and I lost about 3/4 of my contacts from the cloud. I went crazy trying to find a fix but nothing... then I got onto Gmail from the desktop. There is a contacts restore feature, to any time from the past 30 days. I just went to restore to Tuesday, and everything was back. Saved me!
Like amnigo said try the built in import/export function. You can find it from the contacts app menu.
Also the problem you stated about '+XX YYY ZZZ ZZZZ format, but they are restoring contacts with +XXYYYZZZZZZZ format' you should be able to use this Contacts Clean-up (I can't liunk it since I'm a new user so search for it in the android market) I had the same type of problem too and managed to fix it with this.
Try this
Am using this and works well

Hey, can anyone tell me any app that makes contacts backup with all the high quality images in the ics contacts, i tried a lotta apps and import/export and the gmail sync but the picture quality is reduced in those

I know this & tried as well, but as you said, it changes the format & contacts clean-up sometimes does not work (may be some interfere with the rom build, I don't know!)

Yes, I have tested this also but this does not restore groups...

[Q] Cannot see contact picture thumbnail

Hi All!
My name is Matt. I've bought my S3 GT-i9300 for a few week and just a few days ago I noticed that the contact picture thumbnails no longer exists (not even the default icons). To see what I mean, please the attached image screenshot.
I've synced the facebook pictures to the contacts and has worked perfectly; I can still see the display picture that I've synced if I click onto a specific contact. But because I don't have that thumbnail, I cannot access the quick contact pop up.
The most peculiar thing is that this only occurs in the "Contacts" tab but not my "Favourites" tab. I also do not have this issue in my message app.
I cannot recall messing with any settings or installing anything besides installing facebook messenger and skype; both of which I've uninstalled with no solution to my problem. Other attempts include:
- removing my facebook account sync on my phone and deleting the remaining account details
- changed the "contacts viewed" from all to phone only to sim only, etc. but with no effect
- deleted all my sim contacts
- restarted the device
I guess the only thing I haven't tried is factory reset... but I would like to use it only as a last resort option...
My Android version is 4.1.2. I bought my phone outright.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance
Matt

contact names not displayed on messages or call log

i am facing a very new annoying problem that i have noticed others are experiencing but have found no concrete solution. what is annoying/frustrating is that my phone was working perfectly yesterday. i have a new Samsung Galaxy S5 rooted with Xtreme Dynamic Kat ROM installed (4.4.2 based). i imported everything from my previous phone, everything was working great except that i noticed today that the "default number" for my contacts did not get transferred over for some reason. so for example i had a contact with several phone numbers, and one number was selected as the default (shows a green check mark next to the number). on my new phone the contact's details were all there except for the default number; it was missing. so i checked some of my other contacts and noticed all the ones on my previous phone with multiple numbers and default number set, the default number was missing on my new phone.
so i just used Samsung Kies to backup my old contacts again and the import into the new phone. big mistake apparently because now all of my messages (SMS/MMS) do not display the contact name anymore, just the phone number. same with the call/message logs.
other solutions i've read about out there suggest it is an issue with Google account and syncing, however i do not sync my google account. i removed my google account anyway so now my phone doesn't have a google account on it at all and i am still having the problem. i even tried using Titanium Backup to backup/restore my contacts and call logs and they still will not show the names. if i go to a message and then select "add to contacts" i can add the number again to my contact and then the name will show, but the number is the exact same. i know in some cases i will see the number displayed like +12223333333 or 2223333333 or (222) 333-3333 but i have some contacts that have the number shown like 2223333333 for example and if i open the message it shows the number just like that, so when i add the number to the contact again it will literally have two numbers displayed exactly like 2223333333 but now the name will show up; it's like all of my contacts are being ignored.
another thing i noticed is that right after i use Kies or Titanium to restore my call logs, my contact's names are displayed for a split second but then revert back to just phone numbers.....
yes!! i got back to how it was this morning at least... i found out that i had to go into application manager and clear the data and cache for contacts and contacts storage. this deleted all my contacts but then i restored the backup i had in Kies and now all of my call logs/messages are displaying the names again. however my default numbers are all still missing so i will search around for other threads related to that!

Problem with contacts and call log

Hi All,
I hope you are well.
I have a serious issue with my contacts.
I have Android 6.0.1, CM13.0-20160802-NIGHTLY. and the latest Open Gapps.
All was working fine for some time, but eventually I have noticed that my dialer is not showing contact names and something is preventing my contacts from being saved.
In Contacts app I cannot even choose between Local phone or Google account for contact's storage.
When I save a new contact it is not saving it, I can see that Google account is set to sync (in Settings -> Accounts) and it is syncing all the information.
I can see a whole list of contacts on the contacts list though.
I have upgraded CM several times since then hoping that this will resolve the issue. I have also reinstalled Open Gapps several times as well.
I have cleared Dalvik and other cache, fixed permissions on any partition I could, still the same.
I was forced to use TrueDialer to show me contact names on the call log, but I don't like this app. When people call me it is only showing their number and no associated contact information.
I thought that maybe Zoiper is causing some conflicts as this app can integrate with your dialer, but when uninstalled the issue is still there.
Please advise.
Thank you

I have just read your thread. Is your problem solved yet? If not, I'll start giving you some assistance.
Experiencing the same trouble with my alcatel IDOL 4, the dialer is not displaying the contact (already saved in my Google address book and the Google account is synced with the phone) names, neither for incoming and nor for outgoing.
This is a serious trouble and virtually all the phone numbers are appearing UNKNOWN to me! My brain cannot help me with these 230 contact numbers remembering every time I have to receive a call!
Help will be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Issue with contacts after migrating to Nougat from Marshmallow

Hi,
recently I upgrade my LG G5 from Marshmallow to Nougat. After this, I have major problem with contacts. After migrating, some contacts was missing. I have backup from MyBackup Pro, so I restored it. After this I sometimes get error that a lot of contacts was deleted, what to do. After clicking whatever option, popup still exist, only reboot helps with removing it. No biggie, but yesterday a lot of contacts disapeared! They are still present on google contacts, but not on my phone. Also, on google contacts I don't have some contacts I added lately, even before migrating. So, what do you recommend to resolve this issue? Most recent update I have is from MyBackup Pro, so my first idea is to delete all contacts from phone and Google Contacts and then restore them from MyBackup Pro.
Oh, also I had issue in sync options. Little "!" next to the spining wheel and info that there was issue with syncing, please try again later (no details). So there is a chance that after deleting all, I will have problems with sync to google contacts (or it will fix it).
Thanks for any help,
Mark
Edit: I think I got it I checked contacts on google contacts, almost everything was there. Only two important was missing, so I add them manualy. Next, I export csv from google contacts (and I'm glad I did it). Next, I disabled sync on phone and remove all contacts. I was hoping that when I enable sync, it will donwload contacts from google contacts. But it did opposite, delete all contacts also from google contacts, lol. At this point my all contacts was missing. So good thing I had this backup! I imported it, removed "imported group" and sync again. Now all my contacts are on phone, no issue with syncing and no error popup
