[Q] Help with CM7 - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I'm having a bit of trouble with cm7 for our Galaxy ace. There is very limited space on it and I couldnt install fruitninja and angry birds on it only one of them would go on saying there was not enough space for the next one. I really want to use CM7 but unfortunately this is stopping me. Hope someone can help me.

You're not using a2sd?

Just partition your sdcard and use darktremors app2sd script
and if not know how to partition
easyest way
go in cwm recovery then advance option now you see partition your sdcard option click it and choose one of option of size of partition
and if want swap then also choose its size
(may be you know how to partition but i thought your next question is this so.i answered in advance)

Yeah, you missed the part of the MoDaCo ROM release notes that tells you that A2SD is installed as part of the ROM.

That's 'cos it isn't an option - you have to repartition your card and then A2SD (built into MCR2.2) moves your apps when it detects the ext3 partition.
You need to partition your SD card using computer, the phone itself can only 'format' the card which is no good. As per http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/A2SD:
The SDcard will need two partitions, the first Fat / Fat32 & the second Ext2 For the Ext2 partition I wouldn't go higher than 1.5GB cuz you may run into some issues. I was staying around the 500MB / 750MB area & it was working nice. As all the guides I've read state not to exceed the 1.5GB Marker.

Although a lot of guides say to use Ext3, Ext2 works fine for me. Remember, only newly (re)installed apps will be put onto the SD card- the old ones stay on the phone's own memory.

Incorrect if using MCR2.x; preinstalled apps are also moved.
Only if moving from an earlier Modaco ROM, everyone else has to wipe first. If Fezy had not partitioned his card first then his apps would be installed to internal memory and I don't think that partitioning the card subsequently will cause those apps to be moved to it.
Hi thanks for all replies your assistant is much appreciated. As i'm new to android (coming from symbian) I was doing so much research i ended up getting confused with all the stuff i saw. But just the day before yesterday actually realised what you just said. I had decided to manually create a partition on computer and did it up to ext 3 etc but thought it didnt work because again i tried to use da apps2sd application to move the apps ( i know "what a noob") and hadn't realised that the applications had alrdy transferred (i only realsied later when i saw 93mb of free phonestorage space) so i ended up doing it all again and as u can gess i lost all my applications lolz, but i had a backup created beforehand so it worked ou .
Thanks again for the help shluggity and squiffsquiff really appreciate it guys.
p.s all the preinstalled apps got moved first time hence me losing all the apps when i tried it again.

[Q]How to apply CyanogenMod 7.1(2)

So, first of all, a big hello to the community! Spent the last 2 hours digging around the forum, as I'm a new user and I'm amazed with this big things Galaxy has to add! I came from a Symbyan platform, and the only thing I done was Flash my Nokia 5800 with a C6 FW by PHNT.
Few days ago, I moved to this awsome Android world, where I see alot fo stuff new to my eyes, and that I wish some replys from you guys.
You all gonna say this questions are answered elsewhere, but I digged the forum, and I find the most various kind of answers for the same questions, which I'm now pretty much confused.
The thing is, I want to apply this CM7.1(or , dunno which is better), from what I see, it improves greatly our Galaxy Ace, but on the other hand, I saw a post that says taht this is simple as Root(Which I've done already), and apply a CWM or something, and apply the CM7.1 same way as Rooting.
The fulcral questions is which is the safest(and noobier-frindly) way to apply that CM 7.1?
Also if someone can aid me, what CWM does exactly? Its a backup app like TitaniumBackup?
I think you did not read This my friend.
And CWM is a custom recovery which has a lot more features than stock recovery.
CWM5 can be found Here
The tutorial is at the first link I gave you. But if you didn't understand,
I'll tell you step-by-step
1. Download the rom and CWM and put it in your phone.
2. Enter recovery and choose install zip from SD then choose CWM.
3. Reboot and enter recovery again.
4. Your now in CWM Recovery, before flashing any rom, doa wipe data.
5. Choose install zip fom SD card and choose CM7.1/2
reboot then voila
Hited Thanks for you!
Really helpfull thread! How did I missed it lol!
So the thing taht really caught my attention was the option to don't waste internal memory, which is exactly the only reason I wanted to Cyan Mod.
If it's not a hassle to you, can you pinpoint me the EXACT file to run from CWM? I really don't wanna mess up my phone(though I will only apply it after I buy my 16GB SDcard soon).
Here's where I stand:
1-> I rooted my device with some root I found over youtube, worked fine, then google play said me to update the superuser app, so I did. I guess it's updated, no problems there.
2-> Now I need CWM(I got a file named "recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip", should I use that one or try to find the v4 one?
3-> Then I need to run on Home Button+Power to install that mod, but here comes 4 questions:
"You need to extend the internal app storage to the sd card. The FIRST thing you need to do is go back to Clockworkmod recovery mode and partition your sdcard so that it has a ext4 extension. Then update from ketut.kumajaya's post with cf-rootdtapps2sd???.zip(forgot the full name). That defaults all downloaded apps to run from the sd card."
3.1-> Does CWM have the partition option already? And does it formats the SDcard?
3.2-> Can u direct me the EXACT file so I don't mess this up?
3.3-> This doesn't wipes any data from the phone right?
3.3.3-> And what about the apps alraedy installed and using the internal memory even though they are "in SD card, as phone shows", i need to reinstall them right?
Ty again for any hassle done! And I will thank you agani, just for wasting the time here with me
2. Ok flash that. Some roms are compatible with that but not on v4
3. No. Don't use CFRoot. It's for stock roms only.
3.1 Yes, you can partitition SD card on CWM.
And yes, it wipes everything in your SD
and after you have partitioned it, download Link2sd from the market, choose ext4 then link every app (except system apps of course)
I guess that answers all, just didn't get what u meant by that, do i use taht version 5 or the v4 of CWM? And what is a stock rom? I never changed nothing on my phone except the Rooting.

stock roms are roms made by samsung. Your currently in a stock rom but you are going to CM7 so don't use it anymore. Use v5
Wait, can't I have that Mod to save all in SDcard and save internt memory? I just want that thing, I dont have Cyan mod if I can do that without it
Can u pinpoint me to the correct file please?

After you partition your sd card thorough cwm recovery, do a factory reset and then install cm7.2. Then you can use either s2e or link2sd or a2sd to free up your internal memory.
If you are asking for exact cm7.2 file, there are many of them. Try cm7.2 by vo1 first. Thread will be in development section created by Lovetz.
It seems your not really getting what I mean
First I wanted the CM7 mod, BUT after reading that thread you showed me, I saw its possible to free up internal memory WITHOUT the need of installing CM7, and installing that other file right?
I just wanted to know which is the right file so I don't mess up. I just want to have the option to save all to SDcard, and not to use Internal memory. That was the reason I wanted CM7. Understand now?
use minitool partition wizard to repartition your sdcard. create two partition, both as primary, first partition as fat32 and second partition as ext2/ext3/ext4
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
then flash this from clockworkmod recovery. before flashing do mount system and data manually

then install this

Lol they are many ways to partition your SD card ...cwm recovery eliminates the need of a PC but Mini tool partition wizard is recommended ( though I trust cwm recovery blindly )

Can you tell me how is it partitioned?
First partition will be for photos etc, the 2nd will be for apps?
Can you pinpoint me the .apk file for CWM you use?
Also, what should I expect when doing the partition trought CMW? Its just an option saying to do the partition? I read taht is needed to mount/unmount things,I have NO IDEA on how to achieve that.
If u got access to pc, better do it on pc with minitool after making backup of your whole sdcard. Yes cwm can do it but who know when disaster strike u'll lose all your sdcard data. Better to be safe than sorry mate.

Well cwm 5 can be found by Googling ( cwm 5 for Samsung galaxy ace)
2. It's not how you think ..once you partition your SD card the partition is inaccessible to you ..example if on a 2 gb card if u create a partition of 512mb when u go to settings the phone will read your SD card as 1.5 gb
3. Cwm guides are readily available on you tube
4. As the other guys have said b4 u need to use apps like link2sd to be able to use the partition ..entirely for apps alone ...s2e is the best but works ONLY on cm7
5. During the partition process your SD card will be formatted !!!
Backup your Data first! !!!!
6. Anything else???
P.S. I can't provide links as I m on my phone and even on a PC I would have advised u to Google
So, in your example, on a 2GB card, the phone will read only 1,5GB, so what will be that 1,5GB for? And the 512MB what will they be for?
Thanks for the reply

1.5 gb will be for your media -photos videos files etc that 512 MB is accessible only through s2e,link2sd and other such apps( u see I know only these 2 ) this 512 MB can be used to store your apps ---I.e. move the dalvik cache to the SD card which in turn results in a lot of free internal space....
Once upon a time I had 120 apps on my phone and 50 MB was still remaining.
P.S. please don't ask what dalvik cache is ...Google it instead ..ull get better info

For those who want lots of apps on Ray

Well, for those who is already using a large /data, please ignore this.
For those who need an easy access to install a lot of apps with limited /data confused: 320M available on phone??? 10 games could fill that space!!)
Please read the following, and try on your own risk.
----Let me tell a story first----
My girl nees a lot of apps on her Ray, and is always complaining about the limited space on /data, and asked if I can make her phone a large /data like my Desire. Well, I have searched a lot without any appliable methods, or I was just fooling around?
Indeed, links2sd is appliable, but that is annoying if you need lots of apps, some of which can be hardly moved to sd.
Could there be an easy access? After that I started to try those scripts that I tried for my Desire. I have tried custom MTD partition method, but there is no Recovery that supports MTD, and SONY itself could not be easily make customed MTD.
So I tried 10+ scripts to mount /data on EXT(one by one!), from a normal apps2sd script, apps2sdx, etc., all prove invalid or some just make her Ray brick.
Every time Ray refused to boot, I have to restore /system, then tried another script.
Finally, I found this, mounts2sd script.
Sorry I forget whose this script it belongs to. I just borrowed it and it worked well on Ray, at least on her Ray, now she gets about 60 non-system apps...
----End of my story----
Main steps include:
1. partition SD-CARD. an EXT partition is needed. I gave her a 1G ext4, possibly large enough for about 100 apps.
(ps. your SD-card is better to be a fast one, like Class6+; I gave her a Class 10 Kingston...)
2. install your rom, and a bootable 3rd-party boot other than the original one. I tried this on official ICS rom with a moded boot with touch recovery, sorry I forget which it was, but the boot must be int.d supportive. (PS: the BOOT I used for the Official ICS ROM is in post #4.)
3. **an Nandroid Backup is strongly recommended before flasing this zip.**
4. flash this zip View attachment mounts2sd-signed.zip without any wipe. Then restart and see if it works.
*5. if this didn't work or caused any problem on boot, please restore at least /system. Perhaps this script isnot appliable for your Ray or just your boot.
-------------------------------
Pleas try this on your own risk, and report back so that other users know whether it could work.
Sorry for my poor English. Hope what I've written intelligible.
I'll update this this thread on post #2
reserve this for updates. Forgive me...

Well, after you got your Ray BL-unlocked (and maybe rooted), you can flash any BOOT.img in fastboot, then flash official ICS rom(in zip format, you can search it yourself), with that BOOT (the one in Post #4) or any other BOOT that support int.d, you can try flashing the package in #1 in recovery without any wipe, then reboot your Ray and see...
I messed around with this in the past and even tried changing the partition sizes on the Ray - all with less than ideal outcomes and I eventually gave up.
All I do now (on ICS) is go into apps, select one and hit 'Move to SD Card' - large apps are automatically installed on SD Card if they won't fit on internal memory. Currently have 231MB of apps on phone and 332MB on the SD card - and all the SD card is usable, I've not 'lost' space to the non-windows writable partition that isn't being used at that time.
Don't think there's any "Right" way of doing it, but I just found this easier than messing around with partitioning.

That's why I said this to be a method for lazier persons like me and my girl.
She doesn't mind the EXT partition "eating up" 1G of her SD card leaving it "unfunctionable", and the card I gave her Ray is fast enough to run the apps and large enough for her.
Seems this method is more complex than link2sd.
Link2sd can run on rooted stock rom (locked bootloader) with ext support.

Well, Link2sd is an app... Mounts2sd is a script, to a large extent.
I'm Not going to debate about their advantages or disadvantages.
Just share my experience with you...
you using wrong way i think friends
i think using another way is fastly..
u can use which rom u want but you have to delete what you dont want from ROM Memory..
You can use Root Explorer for this job.
For exp. I use Rayonium Rom already have about 150 mb free.. But i delete gmaps gtalk and some unusefull addons for me and i save about 250 mb.
Then there are some applicatioons which i won't delete anytime for example my special launcher, dolphin brow. some newspapers , mp3 players , markets, video players .. photo applications and etc what you want..
You will move from internal memory/ data/ app / to
Rom memory system / app /
Then it mean those applications will be in ur Custom Rom so if you wipe factory reset you wont lose your applications..
If you wanna use this way and still cant understand how to do i can explain it much better.. Hope u thx
You move only application which you can't move SD card...

I quite understand your method. Rooted ROM has lots of freedom in apps, but I just put forward my alternative method to make it easier for those lazy guys like me and my girl who don't want the trouble of moving apps to anywhere and just keep it default. By the way, some apps can't be simply moved to ROM, eg. Titanium Backup, it causes FC if you move it to rom, also hope you could understand.
Of course, this method needs extra space on the SD card, along with its requirement of the SD-card's R/W speed...
Anyway, thanks for discussion...

[Q] Why is it not mounted?

Just bought a new phone, from everbuying.com.
Type/model: Feiteng H9500+
Product website: Everbuying, sorry could not place a link duo the rules on the forum.!!
But you can find my phone typing the model in everbuying.com or google.com
Just rooted the phone yesterday. It is ok, i have the supersu app installed.
Wanted to do one more mod since internal storage was low ( 2GB.)
I wanted to mount my sd-card as an internal storage.
So i installed Mount2SD / Bussybox from Playstore.
On Windows i partitioned my 32 GB card as follow: (With partition home tool)
10 GB Fat32 - Logical
22 GB EXT4 - Primary.
When i restarted the phone, it only recognized the first fat32 partition.
The second EXT4 partition, was not mounted. also there was not any info or error.
Wich is verry weird, does any one knows what i did wrong? Did i forget a step? becouze i can't remeber one!
Seriously? Still not, at this hour , with so many peoples on the internet nowadays ??
Just a simple qeusten isn't it ?? ...

I use link2sd on mydevice. So you can try by installing it.
Also keep both partition as primary.
I am not familiar with partition and such things but still you cn try.
Make sure the mount scripts are the latest version installed.

Link2sd hmm, i agree that it is indeed a good aplication.
But there are better ones like mount2sd wich i have been also using on my previous old phones.
So just wanted and still want to figure out, why mount2sd isn't mounted.
..
have been looking the whole the day on google. but stil could not find it.
I am propably gonna install/flash cwm on the phone. and then try to flash mount2sd trough sd-card.
maybe it will work then, but for now i am still bussy finding a solution to get flash tools to work.
It stil does not download the custom recovery.img to phone, even after a correct scatterfile ..
pfff, so tired of being a geek.. i dont have any idea how this tech world just fits in my fuzzy litle head..
sometimes i wonder, how this tech world fits in my fuzzy litle head... it is difficult, but people do understand it without any introdoction.
Gonna get some sleep now, and contineu tommorow to find a solotion... :good:

[Q] Re-sizing/Repartion Internal Storage On A Samsung Vibrant

Hello, im new to the community and ill like to say, this site helped me a lot with my first android phone which is a gift from my father and its a pleasure to be a part of it, but besides that theres a question i was meaning to ask ill look over the forums and i couldn't find an answer to my problem and it comes in 2 parts.
1. Is there a way to repartion the Samsung vibrant so it occupy all 16gb or something close to it.
2. is there a way to expand /data/data folder to more than 500mb because an application requires to be installed there for some odd reason it keeps failing and saying it ran out of space
if you can help me ill be forever in your debit, thank you.

I don't know how to change the partition sizes, but I do know that it must be done before the Rom is built. As for the data data partition. Maybe you can try using the app link2sd to help you move some apps data out of internal and into an sd card partition.
Solved
Thanks for the Suggestion for using Link2SD but it didnt work but looking into CM Rom file browser i can make symbolic links to another folder to manually so i can redirect the app main data to my sd card on another partion so i got it to work it solved both of my probs at the same time it took a while though

That's what link2sd does. Links the app data and stuff to sd card. Maybe because you have free version?
you might want to look at this guide about a workaround for the tiny datadata partition http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1541942
obviously read it carefully before you flash anything
