Working fine on mine - just tried it.

myne says Network communication issues on both 3G and 4G, but on wifi works fine.

no problems here either. have you tried re-installing the app?

re installed, reboot phone - same thing....maybe glitch

Are your 3G and 4G working outside of the Speedtest.net application?

try the FCC app, thats what the Sprint field test team uses

Looks good, but lots of force closes with my MoPho with that one...

I think the problems with the speedtest.net app are in the app itself and its update process. I had extremely poor results after the last speedtest.net app update. Uninstalled, reinstalled. No reboot. The speed reported by speedtest.net was back to normal. The release notes indicate attempted fixes for various phones

Evo 3D and pptp vpn?

Hi all, anyone get this to work successfully? I had no problem connecting to vpn on my Evo 4G using 3g, but the Evo 3D keeps failing to connect through 3g, all the settings are the same. It comes back with a message: "Server hung up. It is possible that you are behind a firewall that prevents you from connecting to the server. Do you want to try again?". Well, I'm not behind a firewall, and as I said before, all settings are the same. Connecting to a vpn through Wifi works fine.

I'm guessing if this is true for everyone, then it'll be fixed in an update. This was the case with the Samsung Galaxy Tab too, and they fixed it after a couple of months.

I can connect using a different wifi spot or over 4G, but not on 3G, something about a firewall. Using dd-wrt on a router to set-up the connection from a EVO 3D
same here no go on 3g wifi is working fine
Same here.
I tried VPN in phone as well as several tethered methods.
4G Worked fine as well as Touch Pro 2.
I tried setting Proxies to 0 as well (The hack for better 3G performace)
And still no go.
What if you erase those proxies that people remove to supposedly get better data speeds?
They are proxies, after all, and i had to remove them from my non-phone-geek buddy's Evo Shift just so the Sirius app would stream.

What do you think I said in the prior post. That doesn't work either.
EVO 4G works with the same Proxies set Normal or Blanked out.
Also tried encrypted and not.
I also factory reset the phone, because there was a thread that said it ran better, so I figured what the heck.
One other TidBit I noticed today.
It works on 4G !!
It's as if something times out on 3G.

Interesting... too bad for me, the Detroit Metro Area still does not have 4G.
Same issue here. VPN connects easily on the very spotty 4G service here in So Cali and works great on WiFi but nothing with 3G. Very frustrating. Had an Epic up until Wednesday and never had any issue like this on that phone. Sad face
is there any fix on this ?

Not as of yet, that I know of. I also have this same issue on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Android 3.1, but it won't work on 4G/LTE, just on wifi.

It is extremely odd that it just doesn't work on 3G... I wonder what tree we need to bark up to get a resolution. To this? What we need are paying Wifi tether users to complain about it. Paying monthly and not even able to use the phone to connect to their VPN connection..
It has to be something simple too, 1 setting somewhere that is causing the blockage.
Sound like your data provider is blocking vpn on 3G.
I have a simular issue with AT&T and my APN settings. Removing the proxy server in the APN allows for VPN otherwise it doesn't work.

[Q] CM7 Thunderbolt Tethering not working

Hello XDA Developers,
I have an HTC thunderbolt, I'm running Cm7.1, the newest release that came out yesterday. My issue is that wifi or USB tethering do not work. Whether I connect usb tethering and enable the feature from the phone, or enable wifi tethering and connect through my laptop, the network connects, but then says no internet access and/or limited or no connectivity. My laptop connects to wifi internet fine.
I've had this problem for every iteration of CM7 for thunderbolt since June. Before moving to CM7, i remember trying tethering once or twice and it did not work. I've just decided now to try and get tethering working.
I've tried using the wi-fi tether app from code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list as well as barnacle wifi tether, both have the same problem.
My main questions would be:
1. Is there any reason I have overlooked as to why tethering does not work on my phone? Is there some new verizon block to tethering for root users? Are there any settings I could try to get this working?
2. Are there any known issues with CM7 and thunderbolt tethering?
3. It seems weird if it was a hardware issue since my laptop does actually connect to the phone, it just has no network connectivity.
Thanks!
I had a similar issue and fixed it by downloading the open garden wifi tethering app https://market.android.com/details?id=og.android.tether and changing the network to open on that app as well as the built in cm7 app. Then enable both apps and it should connect. Did for me.

Newest release came out about 20 minutes prior to your post CM7.1.1...check the rootz thread.
I've seen reports of this before. If memory recalls correctly, the devices weren't acquiring an IP correctly. Once you have it tethered, on the laptop/device try releasing and renewing your IP or disabling/enabling the adapter.
You are not the only person having this problem. I'm having this problem too and have not found a fix for it yet. I've found a pattern though, any ROM that I've loaded that was a build or based off of CM7, had the tethering problem. And as stated above, the problem about not acquiring and ip correctly is exactly what's happening.
Hopefully a dev or someone else can come along help resolve this problem. Apparently this problem is not very widespread as it seems that very few peeple have this problem.
Thank you everyone for your help.
keith.mcintyre26, I tried your suggestion of open garden wifi app, and it worked perfectly, just installed it and it worked. CM7 wifi tether still does not work though.

I tried the app as well and It didn't work I am in a tricky area when it comes to data coverage though so I can't help but think that might be it? Unrelated: Sometimes I lose data coverage altogether (drops out, comes back, drops out, etc) when I'm in 4G coverage areas. Maybe the two are related,

I know this is not the problem where I live as I'm in full signal.
I just got onto this ROM, after being on BAMF Forever, forever, and LOVE IT. My only complaint and possibly a show-stopper -- Wi-Fi Tether doesn't work, and neither does the built-in tether app.
I've done a complete wipe. The client connects, but doesn't DHCP.
Any ideas?

Quick update -- Open Garden works...
Strange... But I guess I'm all set
I had/have the same problem with cm7 and bamf1.86. I finally got cm7 tether last night using barnacle, but it was at .3 mbs. I have yet to top 1mbs. That was with 4g(or so it said.) I have tried the included wifi tether, usb tether, barnacle, and open garden. Nothing works properly on either rom. Signal was between -80 and at worst -90.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Seems to be a common issue across newer roms lately for wifi tether.
I got mine fixed by downloading the newest experimental build.
Once installed go into settings, Check Disable wake lock, check wifi driver reload, also check routing fix. Furthermore, make sure you select the proper device, should be the first option once you open settings.

rooted tethering problems?

I have noticed that ever since I rooted my Thunderbolt I cannot tether. All devices will connect to my phone(other phones, computers, xbox, etc) but they cannot open a web browser. It used to work on the hotspot ap that came with the phone. The only thing I can think of is that on the stock app, I could change the security to wpa/wpa2/wep. On this new app I cannot change, am I grasping at something that isnt there or is there something else that needs to be done?
help me pleas,e, my neighbors internet wont be there forever. , .
I've been rooted for some time and it may be coincidence but sense the last 4g outage last week my tethering has "limited access" wired or wireless. I'm using liquid 3.0.2 built in wired/wireless hotspot. wifi apps I've installed don't work either now??? Help
Go here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ and try the newest version thats available. Also in settings check the router fix option.
Also you can try open garden from the market..

got it. I had to go into the settings.
wifi tether>settings> enable Routing fix
Then it worked.
My neighbors now have one les person stealing their wifi. Thank you!
Still no luck here, may just be the rom? Ill try another with the new wifi and see if that works.

I noticed that the android wifi tether app states that it only works for 3G and 2G. I wonder if this is just a "canned" statement? Does anyone know, for sure, if it works for 4G tethering?
Yeah I did, neither the old or new one are getting more than limited access. Know idea what may have changed on the PC side? Nothing new or changed? Just the outrage on Verizons end last week. I'm baffled. I have tried a couple other Rome with the same results. Sucks pdanet is a third of the speed.
There's a bug with CM7 if your using it, I'm having the same problem. I have a none stock kernel with it but I can't using wifi-tether or the built in tether. Makes me want to switch to my sense ROM. :/

If you're running CM7 set your built in tethering to OPEN for security and run this version of wireless tether use the same name as the built in one and it'll work. I finally got it working a few minutes ago.
Thanks will give it a try when I get home.

It works on my 4g, I tested it with a speed test website and was getting 5mbs.

I dont know what I did but my hotspot can only hit .25 mbps now according to speedtest.net
I then watched the speed on the hotspot and it shows the same
Its been like this for a week now, does any one know the settings layout on the hotspot? Are theer any that could affect this?
I have rebooted my phone, switched airplane on and off. I then tested the speed on my phone and it is getting 4g, so the problem is with the hotspot.

You rock JRocker23! Always helpful - a Thx is in order. Of course the Market QR code returns "No Results Found"
Try changing the type of connection to Infastructure or Ad-Hoc. I don't remember which one it was, but one of these fixed a very similar issue for me.

I have the opposite problem won't work on wifi on any of my phones
It happens to me on occasion, I'm more willing to blame the app since it seemed to start happening, at least with me when they started overhauling the app
used to be fine before
it's driving me crazy
had to go cm10 only for everything to work
YouTube works just fine for me
3g and WiFi
I don't think it has anything to do with aosp or sense
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
It might be your network profile because I just ran Youtube off of WiFi, 3G, and 4G on both AOSP and Sense and it worked flawlessly. Go to Settings > System Updates > Update profile. If that doesn't fix it and you know your MSL code, you could also do ##3282#, Edit, type your MSL, go to Data Profile, hit menu, and hit reset (only resets activation, not the entire phone).

Okay, well that seems to be it, switching to Mobile Data. But why? It's always worked before over wifi and nothing has changed in my Internet status or on my phone. Same internet, same cable modem, same router, same ROM with the same settings. And I've rebooted modem, router, and phone. What can I look for that could be blocking Themer beta from working on my phone (GNII) over wifi that has changed since 2 days ago?
Edit: Unless Google is hiding some kind of firewall tweak inside a recent Search or YouTube update, I'm stumped!
Edit 2: All other Internet services on the phone including T-Mobile wifi calling are working normally.
The issue to me is themer same thing data works fine wifi a pain in arse,as you say this has only been an issue over the last couple of days. Also now running very sluggish, everything else again is running fine over wifi just themer having issue
Problem solved, sort of: I've isolated the issue to my own Charter cable connection. It works fine on mobile or wifi data connection outside of my own location. In my Motorola cable box, if I go to the firewall settings, and change the firewall protection to "none," Themer works. But if I change it to "Low," it doesn't, even though I've always had it on "low." Guessing they pushed out an update or changed something on the backend.
Can anyone tell me what port (if not port 80) that Themer uses on the phone to connect to themer servers?
