CSC, Photo (low batery) and Flash Question - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
1)
I have actualy flashed KF3. When battery goes down to 19% its not possible to take a Photo. Every time i start the Application there is a promt with low Battary warning. What the fu** ? I want to make a picture when i want, and not when andoird allows me to take a picture! If i turn off the automatic power managemend, its the same.
So any ideas to avoid that?
2)
I have flashed KF3 XEU firmware and want to update to the actual XWKI4 DBT (its original a DBT device). So, after flashing with odin, whats with my settings and home screens etc.? Have i reconfigure everything?
If everything is los, how can i make a backup of all my settings?

1) That's normal, you need as hacked camera.apk. Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104051
2) All the ROMs posted are non-wipe, unless when stated, so you won't lose your data.

Perfect thank you!

Hi, my current fw is uhkg4. Can I flash to ki3? Are there some restriction?

No but KI3 is not official and bootloader no longer lets us clear custom rom counter with usb jig .
jje

So, i flashed my XEU KF3 with DBT XWKI4 but, after flashing my CSC is still set to XEU.
How can i Change my CSC to DBT?
*#272*Device IMEI# doesnt offer my DBT for installing.
I think a factory reset will do fine ore?
Any ideas how i can backup and recover my settings after factory reset?
Second problem:
After flashing mini paper widget doesnt work
Cant write anything in the widget.

[Q] Debranding - I have to factory reset, but a question

Hey everyone, so I'm on an SGS2 with O2 branding and KE2 via Kies. I rooted and got Titanium Backup PRO.
I've seen the new KE7 firmware is out for the XEU (unbranded) handsets, and I'm thinking it might just be better to unbrand for greater speed in getting these updates in future.
Point is, by now I've kinda customised my phone nicely, set up apps and emails and settings and so on. But, I hear that to proper set the CSC to XEU, you must factory reset.
My question is this - between Kies Backup and Titanium Backup, can I factory reset to fix CSC, then just restore these two backups and basically be right back to all my nicely customised phone? I'm mainly talking SMS messages, contacts, settings, email and apps really.
Thanks

Try a free app called MyBackup Root from the Market, it can back up media and data
Don't need factory reset if you install posted update it'd xeu
Factory reset is if you have more than one csc and change that from phone setting

But the guide on Debranding / Rebranding says
STEP 8- One last final step is to change your CSC code by typing this code in the phone dialer *#272*<your IMEI># (the code will be listed at the top of the screen. If you're coming from O2 PAYG handset it should say O2U. Now Enter recovery (volume up, home, power keys together) and do a factory reset and choose reboot phone Check your CSC code again Hopefully it will now say XEU

Are you sure jje that my CSC will change to XEU if I flash KE7 using Odin?

Just thought I'd report my results - KIES was useless and failed to restore a buttload of stuff (erroring out on call logs). Google restored most of my apps and contacts, and titanium got the apps and their data. I had to set up my accounts (email, facebook, twitter) again, and so I lost any contact links. I also lost my home screen and applications layout information.
Not too bad really.
If your firmware contains more than one CSC then you change it and that requires a factory reset .
All the firmwares i have updated via Odin have been XEU only CSC .
Including the O2 rom posted .
Original O2 rom was O2U CSC every rom flashed since has been XEU every time .

[Q] Update radio (modem) only?

Hi,
I've had my Samsung Galaxy SII (GT-i9100) since around 10th of May this year. It came with a firmware ending with *1, but the first thing I did was to upgrade it to XWKE2 via Kies on my PC. That was a good firmware. I had no problems with it ... The only annoying part was that the camera made shuttersounds all the time, even when the phone was silenced to vibrate only. That was fixed in XWKF3 which I'm running now. The MAJOR problem with XWKF3 is that the radio/modem is ****ed up beyond recognition.
On KE2 I had like H or H+ all the time, and if no H/H+ I had E. Nothing in between. Now I see 3G almost more than I see H/H+, even though I'm in the same areas as before. Also when my phone goes toggling between 3G and H or stays on 3G - I do not have Internet access. It's like a huge "no route to host" appears on 3G, or if the phone toggles and cannot agree on ONE thing.
So I would like to upgrade the radio only. Why? Well I've been trough a few of the original firmwares from samfirmware.com and here, Mostly XWKE2 (which made my phone loop on boot), XWKF3, XXKG6 and XWKG3 (I think). Main problem with XXKG6 was that it didn't have Norwegian (for Swype or keyboard at all, but UI was present in Norwegian). Others was either looping on boot or I was using them to upgrade back to the original firmware (now XWKF3 with radio XXKE7 and XXKF1 for CSC).
Two questions ... Can I use Odin (I've got 1.85 as the latest) to upgrade ONLY the "Modem"-part? From XXKE7 to XXKG6?
Is there a way to get Norwegian Swype on the XXKG6? Maybe "keep" an older NEE-based CSC? Because .. Swype is a part of CSC not PDA/Code, right?

Yes, you can upgrade the modem separately.

swpye is not part of the csc, the language only is part of the csc.
Swype is app that can be updated or installed seperately and has links to the csc.
Untar the file using something like 7-zip.
Just use the modem.bin, and tar it back using 7-zip, flash with Odin under phone.
If not, you can download one of the Clockwork version, and replace the modem file, then rezip and upgrade with Clockwork Recovery.
Flash your Modem KG6 and Flash CSC KF1 for your area Modem in Phone and CSC in CSC via Odin . A CSC is only a bunch of text files with network details language etc .
jje
So summarized ... I can use Odin and _only_ tick "Modem" and pick the XXKG6-Modem, or do I need a CSC as well? I have today the Stock XWKF3, with radio XXKE7 and CSC KF1. The only ****ing thing bothering me with this stock rom, is that the radio went FUBAR after update (compared to how it behaved on XWKE2)

So ... With XXKG6 (to differ from XWKF3) I will not get Norwegian Swype, even if I custom with Odin to keep my KF1-CSC? I will have to wait for a XWK*-release of Android 2.3.4 to have my Swype with norwegian dictionaries?
you can flash the modem only.
csc is used in relation to your swype question.
Will do a flash of my radio later tonight after work then. I really hope it goes more stable again. Samsungs Customer Service is crap ... "Have you tried to reset your phone?" - "Yeah, your radio software still sucks!" ... "Well sir, try to fabric reset your phone" - "Say that again, and I will strangle you!!" ...

Canadian SGS2 Virgin Mobile Firmware Upgrade

Hi. I have the Canadian SGS2 from Virgin Mobile.
I want to update the firmware on the phone but Im unsure as to which one to use. Right now the latest firmware for this specific phone is UGKG2. My model number is GT-19100M. Im just wondering which firmware would be the best to update to. Ive been having a few issues with my phone and apparently updating the firmware is suppose to fix it (like the Wifi sharing garbage that starts every time you tun wifi on, but doesnt go away when you turn it off)
Anyway - which firmware would be best to update to, or if it would be best to just update to the latest which I think is XKH2.
Help is appreciated. Thanks!
Yeah sounds like you are on an older firmware which a lot of us battled back in May with the wifi-sharing battery drain. You'd be safe flashing any ROM really. Not sure if you prefer stock firmware only or not as some of the custom roms are great. I'd suggest KH3 as many bugs have been fixed that are evident still in your ROM. But you may want to check to see if anyone has a backup of your current rom in case you need to take it in for warranty. I have an i9000 but friends who are using i9000m Bell model are able to flash any i9000 rom without issue as there really is no difference from what I know. If you do flash, keep in mind that your boot logo will say i9000 and not i9000M, which is why you may want to look into backing up your current rom (by rooting and flashing a custom kernel to make a backup) just in case you need to flash back for warranty repair.
I use Batista Rom and really like it but I always tend to prefer custom roms. I think you'd be better on any newer rom, stock or custom to get rid of the bugs you got in that firmware you're on
so to be clear - I can download KH3 and use Odin to flash without issue, Even though Im on the stock I9100m Virgin Phone? And KH3 is a single TAR file that needs to be placed under PDA correct? I basically just want my phone to be the exact same as it is now except with the firmware updated.
Will anything be different or will it all seem the same as if I were to do a factory reset right now?
Also where KH3 is 2.3.4 and my phone is currently 2.3.3 - this wont lead to issues when using Odin?
Thanks for the replies.

Yes you can flash KH3 using Odin under the PDA section. Depending on where you downloaded the KH3 firmware it probably wont wipe your phone so I normally do a factory reset after just to make sure it's a clean install. Make sure you back up anything you don't want to loose. Also take note that the KH3 package includes files that will change your boot up image from I9100M to I9100. If you want to keep things as close to stock as possible you can remove these files from the package since you don't really need it: boot.bin/sbl.bin/param.lfs. All you need to do is use winzip or 7zip, double click on the .tar file and delete.
Haha. Thanks for the replies.
I'm happy to say that everything went without a hitch - and all of my problems have been solved. One funny thing, was the camera shutter sound - which from what I read is suppose to be hardware related - was actually fixed as well - no more sound when opening the camera app.
Battery Improved
Wifi Sharing bug = gone
Shutter Sound = gone
Random restarts while listening to music = gone
And I got list view
Thanks guys!
im in the same boat. i just got a galaxy s2 a couple days ago. I just want to flash my phone to 2.3.4. Which firmware do i download? Where did you find KH3? thanks

[Q] CSC Keeps changing to kor

Galaxy works fine but after a power down or a reboot the csc changes to kor
any way to make this stick to uk perm thanks in advance
AP:I9300XXALF2
CP:I9300XXLF2
CSC I9300OXAALF2
i had this problem, on three UK, went from LE8 to LF2, then cf-root 6.2, then *#272*imei# to change CSC to BTU but kept reverting to KOR, the only thing i didnt do was to erase cache & dalvik cache or factory reset of sd, in the end i edited mps_code.dat in the efs folder, Now this worked for me BUT i dont know if its safe, ive heard of people messing up their IMEI editing things in the EFS folder. maybe factory reset & reset cache/dalvik in CWM will fix it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124900
let me know how you get on
Thanks for that goodie edited it back to h3g and installed the stock firmware again for the moment :good:
LF2 & manual edit to BTU worked fine for me & recognised by Kies also, Kies states im on the latest firmware, dont know if you can flash the LE8 (H3G) CSC only with odin or if it'll need to match LF2, i take it three Uk hasnt released official LF2 yet?

[Q] Losing signal due to new modem? Your thoughts?

Hello, I hope everyone is well and good. I apologize for the long post but I figured if I explained my problem in detail it would be better.
I have a samsung galaxy s3 i9300. My phone is rooted. There is a specific problem which I have been facing for months now and I have done A LOT of research on it but still cant understand it/fix it.
Basically, the problem I am facing is whenever I flash a ROM which changes my modem/baseband (such as Omega/Ultima), I lose connectivity to my carrier. (I live in Pakistan ).
I have tried the following when that happens(All during my Omega flash):
1)Check if my IMEI is intact. It is. (I have EFS backups too)
2)Check if my serial # is different. It is still the same (No need for Ariza Patch)
3)Check if my SIM works. It does on different phones.
4)Check my APN settings. They were fine. I even manually changed them to match the carriers
5)Change my CSC settings (using the playstore app). Still doesnt work.
6)Check different modems from the appropiate thread (I have tried Europe Unbranded, Middle East, Egypt and many others)
7)Restored nandroid backup of original stock 4.1.2 Sammy ROM, still not connectivity.
8)Flashed using ODIN, the stock 4.1.2 ROM for my country (Using SAM mobile)
And every time that happens, I have to send in my device to my local repair shop which takes about 4 days for me to get my device back. I am currently on Paranoid Android 3.57 but the camera connectivity problem makes me want to pull my hair out. I would like to go to OMEGA.
So before I go back to Omega and try again, I think I have figured it out but needed someones opinion on it. I understand I should test is myself first but I really need my phone for the next month for personal purposes so need a green light of sorts . I personally think since everything else is fine, maybe there is an issue and incompatibility with the RIL and the BASEBAND. According to GetRIL app from the playstore, my RIL and Baseband do not match.
RIL: I9300XXDLIB
Baseband: I9300XXELLA
Recommended: I9300XXDLIB.
Can this be the cause of me losing reception to my carrier? (This screenshot was taken on Paranoid Android)
Heres some useful info on what makes my phone work on stock:
AP: I9300XXEMA2
CP: I9300XXELLA
CSC: I9300OJVEMA1
Attached are also pictures of my settings. Thank you in advance. Please help me out someone
EDIT: The two stock screenshots I have attached below are when my s3 works perfectly fine. And the last Paranoid Android screenshot shows that as long as I dont change modems/basebands, my phone still works.
The RIL comes with the ROM and often don't match if you change the modem. I really doubt this is the problem.
You should never need to touch the RIL, but definitely never touch it on an AOSP rom.
Only use getRIL on samsung ROMs

Any idea what could be the problem?
Yeah definitely can use on omega.
Really not sure what the problem is. Maybe efs gets a bit corrupt? Try using philz recovery and backup efs before flash?
Make sure you format system before flashing.
If you have a baseband that works best, keep it at hand to flash.
If aroma installer allows you not to flash modem, choose not to.
Also perhaps try aosp camera mod by theunknown in themes and apps for s3. Maybe you don't need to.leave PA....

I believe I have seen a very similar problem on a number of phones - your EFS database is "strange" (it was unlocked with some very old version of unlocker) and it needs a very special version of patched modem to work - check the ariza thread - and install the ariza patch even if apparently it is not needed!
I do format system and do a full wipe before installing ROMs.
Okay I will try the ariza patch. Just waiting to get a microsim adapter so I'm not left without a phone .
Last question. Is there a way to backup my current modem(through an app like titanium backup or otherwise) or manually insert my current modem into omegas or any other ROM? Or I force my phone to keep my modem between ROM flashing?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
The best way is to remove the modem bin file from the rom zip and the lines in the install script file (generally the script is commented so easy to find) so your modem will be unchanged.

Can you please explain it a little bit? Basically after searching online, all i understood was I open up Omega's zip using a program like 7zip, navigate through and replace the bin file with my stock one?
But I dont have my stock modem in zip format. Its in the form of a nandroid..
No just remove it. There is no need to have a modem file to flash a ROM. Then go in the script installation file and remove the lines that flash modem to avoid errors during flash process. Or just remove the lines without removing the modem file it won't be flashed.
The script is in Meta-inf>com>Google>android. Generally there are comments so the lines to remove are easy to find modem is generally flashed at the end of the script.

Okay so i just realized one thing. When i installed omega right now, and tried to change the csc using the app to my country, it reset my phone like it was supposed to, but did not change the csc. What does that mean? I dialed *#1234# and the csc remained the same. This is my original stock settings:

The current settings are:

I used the csc changer app from the playstore. The changing the csc using the manual *#272*IMEI# does not work for some reason.
