I have an Andriod 3.2 device (Transformer tablet pc) running Google Maps 5.1.
You know the little icons that show up from different peoples Buzzes? Those "quote" bubbles? Well, I don't see them on my map anymore and there is no option to turn on a "Buzz" layer.
What happened to Buzz? Is it just me??
Not just you. My guess is Google trying to get away from buzz move on with Google+.

So i take it based on whats out, google NAV is the best GPS NAV app out there on this phone. Of course being free has alot to do with it, but I find a few features that it is lacking. Does Google nav have a way to search for waypoints,POI, save custom address, change alternate routes (fastest-shortest), day/night switching, map updates or any other hidden feature that i may have missed.
I know i'm asking too much for a free app, but its google..seems like they give away apps all the time.
If there is an app better, please also recommend
Day/night switching happens automatically.. Don't know what the threshold is, but I'd imagine it's based around sunrise/sunset times for your location. Other items on your list.. Not sure about.
I have to say Google Maps has done me a multitude of good since my first Android. I have watched the app develop as I used it and heres what I think...
Recently GM added multiple subapps to GM: Latitude, Maps, Navigation, and Places. Latitude allows you to share and view you and your friends locations. Can be really handy for some.
Maps is what it is....a mapping programs.
Navigate is my favorite. Clicl this and you can speak or type or choose from a saved address. Pretty nice too and you CAN choose route information and rerouting its pretty nice. Set your gps start and end....go drive and play with you phone on the Nav portion and youll find all the options. Plus multiple methods of getting to and from as well.
Places is basically POI layed out nicely anyone can quickly find whatever they need.
I swear by gmaps and wont do anything elzeq
On the first screen of Navigation, click on the "gear" icon at the top and you can choose "Avoid highways" and/or "Avoid tolls". Not earth shattering settings, but certainly a step in the right direction. I think this was around a couple of updates ago. I have CoPilot Live installed on my phone and I always go to Google Navigation when I need directions, especially where it's integrated into the system much better (navigating to contacts, address links, etc).
Thanks guys, this makes me like the google map even more..However I don't see why google made sub applications to work with G. maps...maybe they shoulda just made 1 application to do all the functionality instead of running map, nav, location, places, and whatever else they come up with..too many apps to run instead of being a feature that should be built as one..in my opinion
Not complaining just sharing my thoughts.
Just a guess, but I'd imagine separating is so the carriers can customize the basic Maps app, without having to worry about messing with the other advanced features.
Does anyone know of a widget that will display a moving google map with my current location centered? There are a couple apps I've found that are close, they just don't update in realtime. The reason I ask is because I have my 7" galaxy tab mounted in my truck. I use a program called torque to add gauge widgets (coolant temp, boost pressure, rpm, etc) to my home screen and would like to have a moving map display as well. I understand this would be a battery hog,but the tablet is always plugged in. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
This would be sick. Add a music and contacts widget and torque would be the perfect carputer front end. I'm sure its possible as it seems the plugins can be very powerful and already have access to map data.
There is an app called tablet talk that, I think, solves the Bluetooth phone call management problem.
hello
Have checked the forums and found nothing.
But windows phone keyboard has this great feature, after writing your text or message. You can then go back through the whole message just tapping on misspelt words once and it will highlight the whole word and give you suggestions that you can pick from.
Its such a great feature, I've looked for a keyboard that replicates it but have found none. they only give suggestions as you type and not after you've finished writing, which breaks your train of thoughts.
Does anyone know of a keyboard that does this.
Which Android version are you on? The stock android keyboard of 4.1 does the exact same thing.
I'm on 2.2 froyo, which is old.
I've downloaded the jellybean keyboard off of google play store, but it only offers suggestion as i type. Not after i have finished typing and when i look back i realise I've misspelt words.
Better keyboard does this also. The reason you don't see it is that it needs to be built into the system for 3rd party apps to use it. If it is not there then no app will do it.

Hey,
Ive just updated my android to a windows phone 8 Lumia 920 and I used google maps navigation a lot on my old android.
Im trying to use Nokia maps for walking navigation, but it never seems to show what way im pointing, which makes it very hard to understand and use....on more than one occasion ive walked the wrong way before realising im doing so
Does Nokia maps not have a compass feature???? Nokia City lens has it, so they know how to use the feature!! but city lets wont let me do walking navigation between 2 points so its useless to me there
Unfortunately Nokia Maps don't have this feature...
I hope Nokia will implement it soon in the next versions...
The biggest problem is as you said to start to walk in the right direction, sometime it's helpful to look around and read the street names to understand in which direction you should start walking...
If you like Google maps better you can use gMaps from the Microsoft Store...
It also has a compass feature...
Thanks for your reply
Im actually quite amazed that an app which has a major feature such as a 'walking directions' doesnt have a compass. Nokia seems to have it all backwards
Thanks for the gmap tip! Ill try using that for a bit but may end up switching back to my android purely for their Google maps navigation software (as driving includes traffic too, unlike Nokia Drive )
It comes all down to personal preferences i like Nokia drive better than Google Maps navigation... But I don't use ether of them...
For me right now Navigon is the best Navigation Software an Windows Phone...
I like it more than the Android version...
Anyway can you suggest me a full blown navigation software on Android??
I tried Navigon but I'm not really satisfied.. I don't like the UI at all...
I pretty much swear by Google maps navigation on android. Its never done me wrong in terms of driving or walking navigation (and it uses the compass feature!!!)
Additionally it gives you a good traffic overview which is constantly updated.
Only negative is that its pretty much online only, although you can now download small parts of your map for offline navigation (but we are talking up to around 5-10 mile radius)
I like Google maps for walking navigation but i really don't like it for car navigation...
It seems i have to search and test a little bit more...
I agree there are better driving nav systems out there, but the traffic assistance and ability to reroute to absolutely anything in the Google maps system is really useful to me! For free I'm not sure there's anything out there close to it, but if you find something better I'd be very interested to try it out

I bought Sygic on Android and it works fine. They update maps often and you get no problem changing device. Speed limits are not correct. for example, all around Geneva it is indicated 120 km/h for highway and it should be 100km/h. Nokia drive is more precise, but their maps are older (more than two years traffic changes not updated near home. I'm sure it will come soon.
So the goal here is to have a tablet in our home gym that I can cast music to a nearby receiver and to have a timer displayed. The device in question is an ancient Xelio tablet and I believe the model to be P900BK if that's of any use. It's currently running Android 4.0.4 and doesn't come stock with the Android Google Play App Store although it has Slide Me and I partially side loaded the Play Store but most of the newer apps I'm trying to install fail some form of validation that occurs in the background whenever I try to run them. I found an APK for Google Play Music that was compatible (I think) with Android 4.0.4 and casting wasn't an option then so it wasn't there.
In a perfect world I'd be able to install Google Play Music (Now has to be YouTube Music though I suppose) and this app here: Hero Timer - WOD Timer Crossfit and HIIT Since it's free and easy to see like the timers most gyms use. I could also use Flex Timer or something else but most all I would want to use for ease of viewing from a distance don't appear to be compatible. The Slide Me app store has nothing of any use that I can find.
I guess the easiest solution would be to find 2 apps in the Slide Me app store that stream music via Chromecast and one that's a good timer that allows for intervals and is large enough to see from a distance on a smaller tablet but as of now I can't seem to find anything that fits that bill. My guess is I won't either on the former due to Google locking that streaming feature down and the latter is mostly trash from what I can tell.
So, any thoughts on this? I'd rather not invest a boat load of time into rooting and potentially bricking this device if I can avoid it but if it's the only option I guess I don't mind. I'd just have to wait until I can carve out enough time to do this which may not be right away. If I do explore this option, one of my concerns is hardware. I'm not sure the ancient hardware this device sports can handle much in terms of ROMs or latest whiz-bang apps or features.
I'm not sure it even has the guts to do what I'm asking but I was hoping someone here who knew the answer could offer up some solutions as I've been out of the custom Android device game for a number of years now.
Thoughts?
This low-end tablet was released 2013-07-09. It runs on Android IceCream. You only can install and run apps on it what are compatible with this Android version.

Right after you finished typing that and you read it back to yourself did you think "Yeah, he'll find this useful" before you clicked submit?
