[Q] Help fixing bricked atrix - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried reflashing my atrix with the 1.8.5 update and my atrix is now pretty much bricked. Starting it up now presents a boot error, "Failed to boot (0x1000)", followed by a quick "NVFlash" message then it shuts off. I'd be willing to pay for someone to fix/help me fix it if they think they have the skills necessary. (If it's cheaper than buying a new atrix.)
Anyone have any help?
Thanks.

There is no fix for this

For what it's worth, motorola has informed me that they offer a repair service for $110 + tax.

Sounds like moto caught on to what's been happening. I wonder if they send a refurb or actually fix "your" device for the $110? Another poster in the HARD BRICK WARNING thread said Moto had no idea what this problem (your problem with the NVFlash and all) is or how to fix it. The poster then went on to say Moto sent him a refurb as his was not fixable. May contact him and get more info.
Either way, you took the risk and didnt read all the warnings. Sucks to say it, but you will have to pay to play. Welcome to voiding warranties . On another note, $110 isnt that bad of a deal considering its a $500 phone and hell my insurance deductible is that ($110) alone so I think you're possibly coming out on top here.

Yeah. I really don't mind spending up to ~$100. Purchasing an out-of-contract Atrix brand new would suck much worse.

if u haven't got someone to unbrick your device yet, mobiletechvideos met be able to help you. they do jtag unbrick fixes, which is a hard brick. I would go to his website and shoot him an email explaining your situation. He only charges $40.

i got same problem .just bought this atrix 4 days ago..

Can anybody help?
Please help!
I was using the sbf (post 22) and instructions (post 27) from the "Gingerbread on Telstra yet?" thread on Atrix Forums on my Telstra stock Atrix:
And it was all going well until I got:
"phone 0000 switching device to bp pass through mode"
That fails and I get:
"Failed flashing process interface ap-os error flashing subscriber unit device api error 0xE003003F address 0x12000150 command addr 0xE023203f phone connected"
It shows the logo while booting and freezes at "Failed to boot 4 Starting RSD mode"
I can still get connected through RSD-lite but I don't know how to proceed
I have tried it 3 times, same result.
I put pudding intl-fix-try1.sbf on there and that seems to work but still fails to boot but now the device just powers off when I try to put it into fastboot mode.
Thanks for looking.

[Q] HELP! Bricked Atrix...for real this time.

Hi all.
I'm in dire need of help...
I was glad to see the gingerbread update popping up on my atrix...so i got home (better internet) and did the update. Everything seemed fine until i tried to put the phone to sleep (pushed the power button). The thing just rebooted. Tried it again and the same thing happened...next time it turned on i just waited for it to go to sleep mode by itself and again it booted.
Searching the forums, the answers pointed me to the direction of a factory reset...and away i went...to no new results. It just kept on booting. So i decided to do a rollback do the previous version and that's when it got ugly. RSD gave me a FAIL in the flashing process and now i cant boot the phone.
Thing is...it gives me the black and white screen saying it couldn't boot, but as soon as the RSD mode msg shows up it just turns of. I can't get it to stay on for the usb to pick the phone up...
how am i supposed to retry to flash it again?!
ANY help would come in handy...i'm about to loose hope.
Thanks in advance!

If the error is indeed (SVF message: 105:1:2 failed to boot 0x1000), you are SoL.
Defnow...i keep getting the first msg. followed by a REALLY quick one about RSD and then the phone shuts off...to the point where i need to take the battery out so i can look at the msg again. Edgeicator was right on target with the link.
Edgeicator, you got it right...unfortunately i didn't read the post...the shock of loosing a phone like this (specially living in Brazil) was enough to have me trying everything i could...i did read a couple of posts where people was being told to try the rollback...i was stupid and unlucky...a dangerous combination.
So i guess there's no solution in sight? should i just prepare myself psychologically to buy ANOTHER phone?
Thanks for the answer guys.
hard brick man. Sorry.

if u can somehow get the phone to stay on and be recognized in RSD u could try to flash the pudding sbf then fast boot and load the system and boot.img files from the fruitcakes thread. Otherwise ull be buyin a new phone if u cant get a warranty replacement.

I believe if its still under warranty you call up the ATT guys which will direct you to the Moto guys and they will ask you to ship your phone to them to fix since its a software related issue.
And how the hell do you manage to HARD BRICK your phone even with all these threads and warnings.
One question though, when you boot up the phone does the computer recognize it? I believe if it does you still can fix it.
Yeah i thought so...it sucks, but its good learning.
As i said before, searched around the web and got a couple posts, all pointing in the direction of a rollback, even if already updated to 2.3.4 ...bad luck for me.
I already sent msgs to those threads so they post a big ass red warning so no one will follow the same path.
...time to ponder my next buy...should i go for a replacement Atrix...should i try the galaxy 2s...should i get a crappy phone and wait for Atrix2?

RSDlite 5.6
Define your initial "failed". RSD is known to say failed during the final reboot, if no errors show up on the phones screen, ignore it. Also try reinstalling the drivers (can't find it but am sure it's reupped in the dev subforum) and using the latest RSD which is RSD lite v5.6 (still have yet to move this to my server, sorry). If 154 fails try 198_7, sometimes it takes a couple runs to get it to work (especially if you didn't hard reset the phone prior to flashing or coming from CM7).

Go, no go? What's the word?
Are familiar with Linux? For some reason I have had issues with rsd and fastboot on windows. Took me a few hours tinkering with both until i gave up and used the Linux tools. Flashing sbf is waaaaay faster on Linux vice windows.
This is for the atrix but the principles are the same:
SBF Flash

Fastboot
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092
I really all depends on you comfort level inside a terminal. If you are not familiar with Linux and want to learn try picking up a dummies book for Ubuntu or open suse. That is how i learned back on red hat 8. The distros are a little different between each other, but the fundamental framework underneath is essentially the same.

Has been all night and I've tried flashing the SBF File but it never went through with RSD Lite. Kept on failing. I started off trying to unlock it and flashed the wrong sbf file in the first place. Thinking I bricked my phone. Any suggestions?
You are soft bricked. Fatal? No. PITA? Yes.
What are the specs of your Mac. Specifically how much ram does it have?

Edit: Nevermind, I found the thread...
Any luck on restoring from that failed to boot 3?

Havent had any luck at all so this is what I did. I called Sprint and told them that I need help trying to factory reset my phone and listened to the rep explain the steps to do so knowing that it wasn't even on and I couldn't do anything. After she had finished explaining how to do it I told her the screen came back saying the failed to boot 3. After a couple of minutes I told her it was still stuck on that screen (duh) and asked if I should pull the battery. She said yes and of course I said it came to the same screen. She transferred me to a tech rep and then that rep told me to put it into fast boot (volume down and power) and again (duh) came to the same screen. The rep then told me to take it in to a repair center and they can help, so she gave me a ticket and set an appointment and I took it there and should them what was happening (playing dumb) and the tech took my phone and told me to come back at 5:30 and it should be fixed (duh it wont) So most likely I will get a replacement and all is good. And right now I am waiting to go pick up either my fixed phone or replacement. Moral of the story is I called first and the REP is the one who told me what to do. So lets hope this will work if anyone wants to give this a try go ahead. I will update you when I come back.

Well I was hoping for better news but I was kind of expecting this. A week after I bought my Photon, I had a very similar thing to our issues happen to my phone all on its own. I took it into my local repair place and they gave me a new one (technically a refab i think). So I am trying one last time to flash and if that doesn't work, I am going to take mine in...
So is it possible to flash it via VMware? I have Redhat, Gnome, or suse in VM format....
Yes it is possible. Make sure you have enough ram allocated to the vm
IMO best bet would be a live CD vice the vm. But either should work.
I flash in a XP vm on my Ubuntu box. Then I found the Linux tools and installed the android sdk. Flashing in Linux is sooooooo much faster than rsd.

[Q] Help! Bricked beyond download mode

Hello everyone
I need your help, not sure what happened, after my Galaxy 10.1 spontaneously went into a reboot loop, and recovery was acting very weird, I tried to Odin and got from bad to worse. Now when I power up i get this screen. Cannot get into download mode, same result. I have tried nvflash and got
C:\nvflash>nvflash --resume --download 8 stockretailrecovery.img
Nvflash started
[resume mode]
failed executing command 14 NvError 0x120000
command failure: partition download failed
C:\nvflash>
Does anyone have instructions on how to redo the partitions and reinstall files (reflash) using nvflash? I could not find any reference on this. Please help.
Does anyone have any instructions on how to revive the tablet? Again, download mode is not available, but I can run nvflash using Power + Vol up then hooking it into the computer. However, I found no reference, configuration files or instructions for nvflash at this low level. I am not familiar with adb, but if it is possible to use that I am also open to any suggestions. My device is unlocked.
Here are the (horrible) errors I get when I power up or when I try download mode (Power + Vol down). I can barely find anything on Google regarding these. The Samsung Galaxy 10.1 flashes for a fraction of a second before that.
AccessParamData: Fail to NvStorMgrPartitionQueryStat! [err: 0x3] OpenParam: Fail to AccessParamData_read! [err: 0x3] AccessParamData: Fail to NvStorMgrPartitionQueryStat! [err: 0x3] Set ParamData: Fail to AccessParamData_write! [err: 0x3] Error -> SetParam (ParamIndex_secure)! [err: 0x3]

Hi, sorry you are having this problem, it's a tough brick. I wasn't able to find any instructions, ie partitions so I called Samsung US. Fortunately, at that time, about a year ago, my tablet was still under warranty. They fixed it, no questions asked, came back as new; I had to register on their site, print some labels, send it somewhere in Texas, came back in about a week or so.
Not sure, they probably replaced the motherboard; it does not have a dent or scratch, just my screen protector, so I cannot even tell if they opened it... of course i rooted again immediately and it is happily running some version Android 4+ I have flashed since. If yours is not under warrantly (probably not) it will cost you, but it's worth trying, asking how much etc. if they still service the 10.1 Give them a call just in case.

[Q] Hard Bricked?

Had a working Prime with Jelly Bean OTA installed with root, then reset to factory and unlocked bootloader. Worked fine at first and still had root (checked with voodoo ota) and so I tried to install a ROM on it. Used rom manager, flashed latest CWM, and couldn't enter recovery after flashing the recovery. At this point, I could still get into the OS and use it, so I tried to flash a CM10 ROM from rom manager, because I was so stupid as to not check if recovery was working from boot. Well of course the ROM wouldn't install, but fastboot was still operational at the time, just that any selection I chose didn't really do anything. Device froze whenever I chose RCK for recovery, and wipe data didn't do anything either. Couldn't boot into OS at this point. Tried using Urkel's Fresh Start but didn't detect, but now on the tablet, it won't even go past the splash screen. Top left says "The Device is UnLocked." and Center has the Asus logo. No error messages as seen with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514088
I'm guessing the bootloader, recovery, and fastboot missing by now? When I connected to the computer once, it installed APX so I guess I'm stuck in APX mode with a hard brick. Warranty ends on 1/11/13 but since it's unlocked, doubt they'll do much. Heard that someone sent in an unlocked bricked TF201 and it was sent back wiped somewhere, but I'd be lucky to have that happen at this point. Anyone got any ideas?
Also, would this method help? Don't think fastboot works on my tablet anymore though...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773280
EDIT: Installed the naked APX Driver from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379875
can this actually do anything to fix the tablet considering the tablet itself doesn't seem to have fastboot anymore? didn't use nvflash so I guess I'm screwed unless Asus replace the board?

GAH read a lot of mixed events in Diamonback's thread, and it appears some people have been contacted with $200-800 (wtf) bills to repair the mainboard, but others even with unlocked and bricked jb devices have had their tablets fixed for no charge. If I don't get anymore answers by Thursday, I'll have to send it back and hope for the best.
Nothing you can do man. RMA.
alright so customer service replied to my rma S/N that the device is out of warranty (since they can check the unlock from their own tool...) since there's mixed reactions to devices needing a $200+ service for mainboard replacement/labor and free repair from their own software, what would my chances with having the repair be under $100 if I could argue that they don't need to replace the mainboard to unbrick the device? It still needs a camera fix due to the green issues... and labor costs. If it ends up being over $200 I'd probably be better off selling this one for parts and getting a refurbished device or the Nexus 7...

Hard Brick after 20j to 20e revert- Don't do it!

UPDATE: Read this!
TLDR: Don't flash 20j update and try to revert....== HARD BRICK
Long version:
The new 20j update has the Anti-Rollback feature tag set that you can NOT revert back to 20e.......You will HARD BRICK your V10 if you do so. I have...and a few others have.
I was on Eliminater74 20e rom, which is excellent. But he released a P1 .zip for the new 20j update. This contains new bootloader etc. (no P2 which is the actual rom for 20j yet.)
This will boot on 20e, but users (myself included) noticed video issues with YouTube and soon after, others reporting that video recording is broken now.
Naturally, we thought to revert and flash back to the 20e bootloader P1. zip.......and that caused HARD BRICK. Phone gets stuck in Qualcomm Emergency Bootloader mode that is not recoverable.
FIX: Contact " tungkick" http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4965298
He helped me un-brick phone. No data was lost! Was quite easy actually. ( I don't see his methods or files he used released here on XDA publicly) (if it is i'm blind.) So don't ask me...contact "" tungkick" .

So I booted to TWRP and flashed the olde rP1 .zip for the orginal bootstock and hit reboot system and no...Nothing!

I am not at all experienced with adb or fastboot..and how to get all that to work...I have tried, but with no success. Don't suppose there is someone I can send my phone to have it unbricked?
Same predicament here
Sent from my SM-T337T using XDA-Developers mobile app
Oh guys.... I am pretty sure that I've read around here and there that when you get that Qualcomm message you're not recoverable. I surely hope I'm wrong!
Sent from my pretty nifty brand new LG V10
Yea....it sucks. I have literally been up all night trying every method I can to recover from the Qualcomm Emergency Bootloader mode I'm stuck in. There are some LG programing tools that seem to be fake/scam by some user...but those were for the G3 and G4 anyway. Nothing I tried worked.
Just bought the V10 2 months ago used off swappa, already rooted, twrp etc..about $300. Just got the thing all setup the way I wanted it too...sigh. THis is what I get for not being patient and seeing what others experience before flashing something so new.
I was slightly aware of an "Anti-rollback" thing,,,but had no idea it would apply to same and inter-version version of OS. I still don't get why flashing the 20j bootstack on top of the current 20e rom would have caused the video freezing of youtube issue. Standard troubleshooting measures dictated to flash back to the 20e Bootstack to see if the issue went away(I have flashed back and forth bootstack etc on my G3 before with no issues).
Whelp......I guess myself and the other user (SIGMAxB) the 2 confirmed hard bricks served as the community warning........and my very first hard brick and loss of a device in such a fashion. THankfully, I was able to find last night another used V10 on Swappa that is already root and TWRP...for slightly less money that what I paid for my now bricked device. Least I had made an LG backup last week, and all my data is on the External SD card...but still gonna be annoying to have to start over......
Any mad scientist or master flasher who knows how to recover such a bricked device... I would be interested in sending it to them to fix....(I doubt T Mobile will give me a new one, nor wil LG Service the device. It's still under LG warranty, but their site requires u upload a copy of the receipt, and their terms state only covers original owner. So used phone off Swappa.....does not qualify. )
Dropped off my phone at a place called CPR (Cell Phone Repair). Thier location near me is more advanced than most others in that they can do data recovery and software kind of things. They said they may be able to fix phone, but he isn't very sure. Said there will be some techs in tomorrow that are more advanced that may be bale to help. I personally don't have much hope, but worth a shot at this point.
Until then...using my Moto X Pure for now...while I wait for the replacement V10 i bought off Swappa to arrive.
That really bites man.....I'm sorry.
I'm a prepay customer....they have different policies for us vs post paid customers.
I called 611 and got transferred around a bit. But finally got them to process a warranty exchange. I have to ship them the phone and they will send me a new one....hopefully. They didn't mention anything about a charge.
So at least I have that option to pursue should CPR place fail to reflash phone.

I flashed V10_H901_V20J_Stock_BootStock_Part1_20160810.zip ...that booted fine. But then I used pheon for a while and noticed YouTube was having issues of videos freezing but audio playin...a few others posted they had the same thing.
So I booted to TWRP and flashed the olde rP1 .zip for the orginal bootstock and hit reboot system and no...Nothing!
Black screen. No vibrate when I try vol down + power. When i try Vol up and connect usb to my computer...It shows "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM8). LG Up says it cant find anything.
Usb device descriptor failed in Device manager when I do vol down and plug in.
I have no idea what do? Help? I have been searching a few forums, but not really sure what is happening.

I did the same thing. It really sucks because I been doing this for over 5 years and this is my first brick. I guess thats what we get for having faith in a developer that should of known or properly tested this before putting a rom out.

While I agree that things should be tested...or otherwise noted that it has or hasn't been so.... (OP does have Status: Testing posted)
It wasn't the rom, his 20e rom runs great. But the updated P1 20j(bootloader)zip....it was the act of reverting and flashing the previous Bootloader version that caused the Hard Brick.
Until this point, I (and many others here) had not seen anything about the Anti-Rollback feature being an issue while on the same Android OS version (LP or MM builds). Now we know it is.
Additionally, the other posts on Eliminater74, rom forum....are indeed users reporting issues with the 20j zip...(mainly Video recording and YouTube streaming). However, the phone is not bricked.
Unfortunately, it's on us folks who flashed it right after it was released and then tried to revert who got screwed. It is definitely a good idea to wait a few days after something is posted to be sure others, mainly early adopters, don't report issues. If your phone is mission critical and you can not be without it or risk having a issue, then modding is not what you should be doing. Or at the very least, once you do get something flashed and stable.....stick with it (that voice in the back of my head was telling me this when i decided to try the update).
I am not sure as to how Eliminater74, had tested the P1 20j bootstack flashed to his 20e rom....but yes,,,,it does suck that this happened...but I am kicking myself in the head...not the dev. At least mine and the 2 others gave him waring and he was able to post a big red warning on the OP. Though I would suggest he remove the 20j part.....but that is up to him.
Least i had a backup phone to make use of until i can get a new V10...very annoying to have do so...but its something.
PS: I am actually starting to like my Moto X Pure more. Dual front facing speakers really nice. ON stock rom now, but used Bliss or while....that's is very nice and super tweakable. Screen isnt has sharp as the v10....and camera is just super basic. I also miss tap to unlock and the other LG specific features...but stock android is growing on me. The BT toggle has a dropdown to select devices to connect to right there, very convenient.
I'm definitely buying LG phones
this latest LG phone

left my phone with a place called CPR, Cell Phone Repair. I doubt they will be able to do anything with it. But once i get it back...probably tomorrow if they don't get back to me. I will see about that. Although, I did get t-mobile to approve an exchange, but i have to ship them my phone back first.
Just got a replacement V10 used off of Swappa. It already has Eliminator rom on it, though not sure what build. Attempting to restore my backup file to it.

I assume there is a reason you haven't released this method and files publicly on XDA right?
I also am assuming you don't want me or others spreading this to others.
If i am wrong, please let me know.
