I just installed pershoots kernal on my Tab 10.1 I/O with 3.1 touchwiz and as the device boots it gets past the "galaxy tab 10.1" screen then all random lines of color across the screen. The only thing I can do now is turn it off and watch the battery meter. Tried powering on again; same result. Did I brick it? Using the Clockworkmod from the Market is the only way I can boot into recovery to install .zip files. I hope someone out there has some good news for me? Yes, I'm a dumba**.

The same thing happend to me the 1st time, if i recall his kernel doesnt work on the stock rom, i booted back to cwm and flashed my backup, thats when i found tasks rom flashed that then used the custom kernel, if you havent then your system needs to berooted, check the link below it tells you how to get into bootloader mode by holding down power and volume buttons
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
Thank you for your help. I cannot boot into CWM to install a different kernel - don't have a recovery box icon; only usb. Can I flash a kernel using Odin?
That im not sure of ive only used odin once at was so i could root my tab, but if you send pershoot a message im sure he could help you, wish i could be of more help, but i myself am still pretty new to this ;-)
Yes you can but it has to be a different file

Reflash recovery using ODIN as if you were rooting your device for the first time and then flash Pershoot's other kernel. You flashed the wrong one (there are two).
The lines you saw are mentioned many times in his thread. Also, read the threads and find your answers there, rather than opening a question thread in the development section.
nobnut's right should be in general section
before your thread gets moved to there here's what you need
Recovery install thro odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150732
Recovery install thro nvflash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130574
Good luck

I recently tried to root my Galaxy tab 10.1 "4G" that I got from Rogers using the files under the 4G portion in the Look Here First thread. Went into recovery to flash kernal and recovery files okay. Rebooted.
Then the bad stuff started: Boot screen loop.
After doing some more research it seems the reason why this happened is because the Rogers device is actually not a 4G device but a 3G device. Accordingly flashing the 4G files onto a 3G device has most likely caused this.
I am able to boot using the volume down + power button, however I cannot access recovery mode. I can access Downloading mode with Odin recognizing it. I tried to see if I was able to flash CWM onto it with no avail with the following screen
My guess is that it is due to flashing an incompatible Kernel... sigh.
So now I ask you gurus, is my Galaxy Tab 10.1 fully bricked or is there some other way I can unbrick this?
Thanks in advance.
I am going to assume that since you are able to get into download mode that you are not hard bricked but just soft bricked. In which case there must be some files that you can flash with odin to get you back to a stock version of honeycomb...or actually rather be able to flash another kernal through odin.
Again im not sure with how flashing with the gtab since I havent flashed anything on mine yet but I have experience flashing different kernals on my captivate and that was what happened to me numerous times.
That was my first thought too when I realized Download mode was still accessible. The file I tried was Overcome's CWM recovery file so that's one possibility why it was not able to go through. I would try flashing various kernels to see if I can get anywhere but I have yet to find any stock/relevant kernels to do so.
UPDATE: ... I apparently had KIES running in the background so I closed that and bam, it is now able to enter recovery mode. I did a factory reset, cache wipe and all but it still is not able to boot up. I reckon I still require a proper kernel. It still is impossible to access the device's internal storage however so I am not able to simple drag and drop the necessary files.
Is there a way of doing this via ODIN as is the only method I have available?

Install new Recovery, then skip to restoring stock mod, I am doing it right now, hope it works. Was looking for solutions all day nothing else is there
did the very same thing when I first got my Rogers Tab: follow the Overcome guide exactly and all will be well again -- flash the re-stock package first, then jump straight to the latest Overcome 2.2.0 with the CWM and you can use Pershoot's kernel too if you wish.

have you updated to the new 3 version? I did the update, one major issue was Browser was not syncing with chrome, gives an error, I am gonna try a full wipe and see, just wondering if anyone found something wrong with Ver. 3.

KIES is a program that's running on your PC. I would hazard a guess that you just need to close it as you would with any program. The op was apparently connected to the computer when trying to get into recovery mode. If you're not connected to the computer when you hold power and volume - and you get the two options. Recovery on the left, download mode on the right. Choose the one on the left with the volume -button and start recovery when it's highlighted with volume +
Hope this helps.

Ok,...I see that there is enough info posted to get you back up... but just an FYI.. this device has a seperate recovery and kernel...in other words.. to root you just need to Odin a compatible recovery and then install the correct binaries to gain root access.
This device is so simple to root... I have an e4gt..and that device(until framaroot)..was a pain.. it's recovery is part of the kernel.. not only that, but it can be implemented different ways into the kernel
Back on topic..... locate a recovery.. Odin it... reboot.... boot to recovery.. flash root zip... If you have flashed something wrong but still have Odin mode.. like said above.. flash the stock rom or if you can't find it... flash the recovery(for the device) then boot to it and then put a custom rom on...

All,
I kinda ran into an issue after i was trying to upgrade to ICS on my Galaxy S II.
I downloaded the ROM that Faryaab posted on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 .
SInce i upgraded to Android 2.3.6 before using the information from Intratech in the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 post i also installed CF-Root 5.
Using CWM version 3 i installed the new firmware that Faryaab posted.
I placed the extracted tar.md5 file in a firmware folder on the phone's SD card. At the start of the install i selected "Keep CF-Root"
But after the phone rebooted one and continued with the install i briefly saw an error.
After this the phone rebooted again but froze at the "Samsung Galaxy SII" bootsplash.
I am still abale to get into CWM Recovery but í don't seem to be able to install another ROM or do anthting else.
Also i'm unable to install any updates using Odin3 v1.85 but this is probably due to the fact that i have CWM installed.
The same go's for "Odin3_v3.04" and "Odin Multi Downloader v4.28".
Unfortunately i'm a complete NOOB when it comes to this as i haven't played around enough to really know exactly what i'm doing.
I tried to explain everything i did as precice as possible and i hope someoone can help me!
I can't make a lot of sense of your post, but you don't mention download mode once.
I don't know how you've managed to flash something with "CFM version 3" (whatever that is) nor why you'd want to keep a GB kernel with an ICS ROM (that won't work).
Sorry for the confusion.
I used CWM version 3, i just noticed i made a typo.
I think the kernel is my mistake. I flashed the new ICS firmware before upgrading the Kernel...
Right now i'm unable to use Odin (for as far as i can determine).
I;m able to startup in download mode (power+volume up+home) at which point i am able to get into CWM Recovery (part of CF-Root).
That is all, im completely stuck with what i know.

// edit // - just noticed I posted this in the i9100 thread, I'm sorry if someone can move this please.
Ok, so I rooted my Galaxy s2 last night and it went well, except I put a 9100 on it and my search/back button stopped working with any ROM i put on it. So after trying 20 different roms I went back to a stock ROM I downloaded.
Everything works well, and now i'm on a rooted kernel, except I cannot get into recovery/download mode by doing the 'button dance' anymore. The only way for me to get into recovery mode is to boot my phone up, use the widget "reboot widget root" to boot into recovery/download. Lets say I soft brick my phone installing something, I won't be able to boot into recovery since the OS isn't booting.
Any advice?
Thank you
I suggest you do a complete wipe for your phone and reformat the internal sdcard to get rid of any issues from flashing roms that were not suitable and then reflash with your preferred rom.
Since you have basically reset your phone everything should work properly now.
Isn't there another forum for your device? This thread is only for the international (unbranded) version, GT-I9100. Ask there and you'll be able to get better responses.

You lost the buttons because the rom you flashed contained the secondary bootloader for the I9100, which has different button combos. There are a couple of paths you can take. You can flash back to stock including bootloaders, and start over. Or you can first flash the I777 secondary bootloader using Odin, which will fix the button combos, and then use CLockworkMod Recovery to flash an I777 kernel. You might have to hell raise that rom. At that point you should be fixed.
You can get the files you need from the Download Repository, and the kernel from the development section. See the link in my Signature.

Ok, so it's been a while since I posted this thread. Since then, I've gathered the courage to attempt a re-flash. I've reflashed using ODIN and a different bootloader. Got that all taken care of and found myself a good stable copy of jellybam with CM10. Been using that for a while pretty successfully other then the battery life being sucked out and a couple random reboots.
Got rid of the SGS2 today and got myself an SGS3

You might've had the stock from the 9100 still in your phone so you shoot clear cache, and factory reset your phone and then flash the stock ROM again. Hope this helps.

Hello,
Can you please give us some technical aspect's towards the device you are having problems with?
For example,
is it international or an USA device?
Did you flash any custom ROM's with kernels?
Where did you find this kernal that you've flashed?
Are you on Gingerbread, Froyo, ICS, JellyBean? (Operating System)

I beleive it is the usa version
i flashed this file(YP-G70-Kernel-r14.tar) i found it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20750550&postcount=1
no i could not flash any rom unless i loaded this kernel (that is if i understood right what i had read on here)
I was trying to flash from gingerbread to ics but i kept getting E: failed to verify whole-file signature so i went and researched and i understood that i had to flash a new kernel first

No you shouldnt. To make everything clear, the USA Samsung Galaxy Player has capacitive buttons. The international samsung galaxy player has a physical home button with capacitive menu and back buttons and that is one thing you HAVE to do is read the forum to see if it is compatible with your device. I understand that you are a noobie at this. There is a certain odin that will only work on our galaxy players the last tine ive read. Only Gingerbread roms (not including cm7) will have camera support. If you dont care about the camera, try cm10 when you get your kernel fixed. Please though, read what you have to do before you flash your device.

Hi, Sorry to post here, but there isn't a section for the 8.9 tabs. That I found.
Ive been trolling all night and morning here and other sites trying to find a solution to my problem, and apparently from what I've seen, no one seems to get an answer to this question or the same for the 10.1 tab
I have The Galaxy Tab 8.9 SGH i957D (Telus) LTE 4G.
Using both Odin 3.7 and 1.83 I have tried to root using SGH-rooted-kernel-V2 from a couple of sources and all I get on reboot is the 2 splash screens, then it just sits on a black screen with the backlight on.
After a few attempts with either version of Odin, I tried CWM recovery, this flashed successfully also, and I can get into CWM recovery and Download mode, but still cannot get past the splash screens.
I have tried the stock ROMs a couple of times and different custom images (DaGrootkernel, DaGOCkernel), but still can't get past the splash screens. My battery drained over night, and I have it charging now in download mode, as otherwise it just loops continuously buzzing and lighting up, but still the same issue, I can't even turn it off as it just reboots as soon as I try.
From what I've seen on here, there are a few of us that need a solution to basically the same issue.
Please... Could one of the gurus on here give some advice as to what us noobs need to do with our semi bricked tabs?
Thanks.

Thanks, I'll have a look there. Just flashed successfully with Odin 3.7 and openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1-sgh-i957.tar. open recovery work great, but still no boot past the splash screens.
the file you used is only for changing your recovery leaving your android os wonky. find a original stock rom for your tablet and flash that with odin...that will bring all back to stock. then you can reflash the custom recovery and then install custom roms if you want
simple way of understanding android is to think of it as a pc
recovery = bios
stock or custom rom = windows..linux..etc...
hope this helps

the file you used is only for changing your recovery leaving your android os wonky. find a original stock rom for your tablet and flash that with odin...that will bring all back to stock. then you can reflash the custom recovery and then install custom roms if you want
simple way of understanding android is to think of it as a pc
recovery = bios
stock or custom rom = windows..linux..etc...
hope this helps

Thanks a lot, that actually cleared things up a bit. Can I read the recovery off my wife's identical tablet and use that? Can that be done with Odin, or what would I need to read that?
Thanks.
