[Q] Factory reset...can it be trace? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I just updated to SGSII an today i got the package from the courier. But i think the seal from the box has been tempered with (by the store) with hot air i think. So i have some questions:
1. The SGS had on the SIM metal a blue plastic protection foil...the SGSII dosen't..it should?
2. Can you find out how many factory resets has been made?
3. Can you recover partial or full data after a factory reset?
If you have any tips on how to verify a phone to see if it was used, pleas share.
Thanks.

1) Well yes, the foil on on the screen (with the amoled logo etc.) was perfectly apply with no air bubbles, the one on the back on the glossy portion was sloppy and with air bubbles and one big one that cover the back and sides with a grab lid for getting the phone out of the box... sloppy too. No visible use marks on the 3 battery pads. No scratches anywhere except for a light one on the label under the battery. The back lid wasn't close properly, one of the tow little feets that goes first when you close the lid was outside.
2) No, i think a was factory reset made. Thats why i asked if you can see if and how many FR has been made.

mate all honesty if you think your phone was tampered with before you had it delivered i would make a complain to the company you bought it from and send it back....give them a call and explain to them what happened and how you found the packagiing when your handset came and see what they say...
keep me posted

This is what im trying to find out, if what i find out could be from sloppiness of the factory assembling operators or some wise ass from the retail company.
LE: I don't think i will resolve anything with the retailer. From theyr point of view the seal was not broken.

Let the battle begin!!!!!

I think your right and someones opened it.Mine to (just like my i9000) came with the blue plastic cover over the sim Tab and if the battery cover wasnt properly put back in I think someone has had a play with it.The problem will be trying to prove it once yourve opened it.Good luck anyway mate.

In my case, with my carrier locked version, it was in a re-sealed box indicating that it had been inspected. Probably a CYA move on the part of the carrier in case of manufacturing defect, but at least I was informed on the outside of the sealed plastic that this was done.

My Tale of Woe: Titan owner warning and assistance request

I'm a new poster here and I'd like to share my story:
My problems with the Titan began with the Seidio Super Slim Rubberized Case. DO NOT BUY THIS CASE!! It widens the space between the keyboard and display pieces of the phone. It put so much stress on the slider carriage that the phone finally split into two pieces.
Store techs set me up with a warranty replacement which I took as an opportunity to flash a clean phone. First thing I noticed, there was no "void" sticker on the bottom left screw which leads me to believe it's a refurbished unit. I proceeded to flash anyway not using the kitchen but I flashed to dcd 2.2.3. Everything was cool but the "QWER" buttons on the keyboard were entering different text. Each were entering 2 letters when pressed. I tried installing the keyboardfix.cab but it was no help
This was unacceptable. I flashed back, then things got worse. Now the whole keyboard is off, no buttons enter text except for the letters x and m and some other seemingly random quirks. What should I do? Should I go in for another replacement or is there some way I can fix this? I've searched for hours on end and I could not get any help. Anyone?
you should exchange asap what carrier do you have as that will help us help you

they usually give u refurbs as replacement...i wud recommend just swapping it with another one...but make sure u have stock rom when u return
You can tell whether it is new or refurbished by ##778 under refurbishment status. I had heard also that the insurance replacements are refurbished unless the store does not have a refurbished phone.

It says no in the PST menu under refurbishment status....
I am with Verizon by the way...
But I guess, taking everyones advice so far, I'm going back to the store for my third 6800.....
I would try reflashing to different ROM and RADIO altogether... such as DCD's 1.7.0 just to see if starting from scratch helps.

Maybe you didn't have the case on right. Maybe you got a defective one. I've had my Seidio Super Slim Rubberized Case for a couple months now and I love it. I have ZERO complaints, and it doesn't widen any gaps. I would buy it over and over again.

Every warranty replacement phone I've received from Sprint has been a refurb. I imagine Verizon does the same. Otherwise they couldn't afford to replace all these phones under warranty, the way we treat them.

Mine did this as well. I even called them/sent pictures to confirm it was on correctly. I returned it in about 3 days.

I've had two of these cases, and I noticed that it was putting pressure on the slider right away. The problem, at least IMHO, is that each of little tabs that hold each half on the phone have a raised edge on them that I had to file down. I'm not sure if they were just left on there from the mold, or if they were designed to be there to make the tabs stronger. If it's the latter, I will gladly risk the case tabs breaking before I let them break my phone.
Once I filed the ridge on the tabs down, there is no pressure on the slider, and I slides open as easily as when the case is off.

Replacement Hero Housing/Facia

Hey guys,
My white unlocked Hero has sustained some nasty body scratches plus it is starting to turn yellow. I'm considering a full body replacement. I was only able to find this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/GENINUE-HOUSING-FACEPLATE-FACIA-GOOGLE-G3-HTC-
HERO-WT_W0QQitemZ280402919652QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item41495100e4
Do you think that it's going to be as good as the original one? The seller claims that it's genuine, What do you think?
I found a site that has both the black and white housing for the gsm hero.
http://www.truesupplier.com/faceplate-housing-cover-for-htc-hero-g2-touch-white-color-pr-18489.html
How do I know that it's genuine? or at least as good as the original HTC cover?

The web page is called "truesupplier.com". OF COURSE its genuine
How hard is it to change the housing anyway?
by changing housing you will probably break phone trust me ... and truesupplier housing is oem not genuine by looks of it..
He might not break it if he's careful, and has the proper tools. I've taken apart a few phones without causing any problems.
So unless i'm handy at doing these things, I should not do it myself?
What if I have our local HTC agent do it? Will it at least look as good as new?
i have the white hero and would love to put the black case on it.
the site mentioned above says it comes with the tools needed to change the cover, has any tried doing this?
i would love to go for it but don't want to f*&k my phone up!
i think its not so difficult to switch the cover if you take off the backcover there are 6 screws than open the case from the top of the mobile phone and pull it off
but becarefull maybe there are flatcables from die lcd or the trackball just make it slow and be carefull all the time
and maybe you can find a dissembly how to in google
peace
this site has pics of disassembly of a hero but it's in russian.
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc_hero/
If you have to pry the phone open use something plastic so you dont damage the original case. Just in case the ebay housing is rubbish.

any1 bought replacement white hoising? mine is getting yellow. so need to buy a back cover.
Thinking of buying one myself. I accidentally dropped mine on the tiled floors of my workplace toilets LOL (luckily not IN the toilet). so now there's a little nick on the top left corner of the case.
If this is your first time you will probably scratch the covers but nothing more. You need to be very patient and i will suggest take a look to a good tutorial.
iopened my hero 1 week ago and its so easy maybe in the next days i will upload a video in youtube
bye
I bought the ebay one. It's surprisingly well built (Not Teflon though).
The sad part is that my touch screen got screwed up during the installation. The bottom part of the screen is no longer functional and the sensitivity is messed up overall. Did the replacement in a local phone shop.
Now trying to find a way to fix it.

hmm do you want to sell me your backplate of your old case? i need it please
and to fix your problem : you need a new display glas with digitizer
to remove your old glas: use a hairdryer, you have to heat up the old clue of the old glas and than you can push it easily out of the frame but be carefull not to heatup the frame, the plastic can deform, maybe you can cover it with aluminium foil from the kitchen
the video of the dissembly will be uploaded tomorrow by me
good night guys!

I don't mind giving you my old backcover though it's in a very bad shape (which is why I wanted to replace it in the first place).

[Q] Get rid Of air bubbles?

I recently Bought a Switcheasy Nude (Clear) Case for My galaxy s3 and Cleaned out both the case and the phone real good before putting on the case. Still, There were annoying air bubbles between the phone and the case. No Matter what I did, They would not go away... Any Suggestions How to get rid of them?
Here are the Pictures:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/w85viv0m2bdb6go/IMG_0164.JPG
Use a credit card to press it over the phone, move the bubbles to the corners/borders.
Its Not a Screen Protectot Bubble mate, Its between the CASE and PHONE
I'm sorry, didn't noticed that. I thought it was a film.
Maybe it's a manufacturing error. Or some dirt that is stuck there and you could not wipe. I've never seen any of those cases, but to me, it seems to be some kind of oil. What did you used to clean it?
Maybe someone in the section dealing with accessories would have an answer .

Hey,
As what I've seen in the tear down videos, the plastic corner is part of the entire inner body, and if you want it fixed, the entire phone must be dissembled and the inner body replaced with a new one. If you do this in a uncertified repair shop, you can forget about water resistant part of the phone specifications. The metal part by my opinion can be replaced without full phone disassembly.
Actually I dropped mine with a tpu case, and I can see a small deformation on the metal part only too.. (on almost the same place like yours)

That sounds expensive
If your phone was to say "brake" due to manufacture fault and you take your phone back to where you got it, you might just get a replacement. Wink wink.

thats too late when it has already fell to the ground, with marks like that there will be straight no.
Its not Sony's fault you dropped it, and they dont know if it was "broken" before the fall or not, thus they wont replace it.
I am not saying it is like this all around the world, but we operate by these guidelines where i work, and they are provided by Sony, and thats what I know.
Heya.
I have same problem with my 6683. Any idea where I can find an inner metal frame for it so I can change it myself, or with someone from London, which I assume I'll find here, on XDA Developers forum and wants to give it a try, or has already done this magic before?
Cheers.
Actually, corners are sold separately, depends on where you shop. I know witrigs.com has them, 4 corners for a set.
can the 4 corner parts be replaced without damaging water resist
Witrigs sells the whole frame for 17 USD. It's listed as "OEM Middle Frame Replacement for Sony Xperia Z5 Premium COLOR". I ordered mine and couldnt be happier with it, my phone looks brand new
They also sell the corners but they're about 4 USD, so the full frame is a better value.
Thank you
I already purchased some parts for another phone and they came fast enough. I enjoyed the experience with them and I'm pleased to recommend as a trustful company.
Now, I just need to save some money to repair all my phones owned in the last years.
Hopefully, soon we won't be needing them -

Smudge on display

Hello, I have a weird smudge on the top of the screen. Noticed it only yesterday.
When I wipe it off with a microfiber cloth it disappears but then when I wipe my finger in that area it shows again.
What could it be? Picture attached.

Its a small thing, but considering the cost of these devices I would try to return it you can.....glad it doesn't show up in the middle of the screen or anything - but I know if that were my phone I would see it constantly and it would bug the hell out of me...Good luck
regarding what it is - to me, it looks like it is not 'glued' or sealed properly in that location - I don't know for sure of course, but it does seem to appear lt is not sealed correctly in that area...

Ok I left the phone at the service center. Will see if I get a new one. They said they need to contact Samsung to approve it but since the phone is only 1 week old they are positive I would get a replacement.
So yesterday I got a new phone and the same thing is still present in exactly the same spot. A little smaller but clearly visible. I don't know what to do... If I get another replacement phone I guess the same issue will still be present...
Can anyone look at the same spot rub a finger along and see if they have this?

Damn dude. Look real close. Its the same screen but they made it worse. I dont think its oleophobic coating wear. It appears the top layer is trying to seperate from the rest of the display.
Did you verify the IMEI changed?
I've checked my device and I don't have that
But yeah, it looks like they didn't try to fix your phone at all

It's a new phone that was factory sealed. The colour is even different. When I wipe it clean it disappears but after rubbing with a finger a few times it reappears again.

First of all, do not get offended, but do you wash your hands? How in the earth do you get the display on both phones so dirty, it seems at it does not have any oleophobic coating at all? Try to wash the phone in clear water, and see if the problem is still there. Also wash your hands, and try not to make the phone dirty, I have never seen so much dirt on a phone overall!
I returned an s9 plus that had this exact same issue. I thought it was me

Sorry, but are you making fun of me? I wash my hands multiple times during the day but unfortunately, I have sweaty fingers so what can I do? It's summer. Do you think you can keep your phone in the same condition as you took it from the box? That way you need to clean it every 10min... Washing does nothing however when you wash it water stays in that spot meaning there's no coating in that area.
Also, I went to my electronics store to check the devices on display and sure enough one had the same issue in the same spot. 100% lottery and manufacturing defect + horrible QC from Samsung.
The only way I see to resolve the problem is to apply a screen protector but personally, I hate them so I think I'll have to live with it. A replacement won't fix the issue and could even make it worse.
Like I said it's a lottery.
I was not making fun with you, I am sorry if it did seem like it. I understand sweaty fingers on summer time, but the phone is also on the bezels with something on it (dust or some particles), that is the reason why I mentioned it. Also, your both phones from the pictures look anyway waaay to smudgy all over the display, for me it is like the oleophobic coating is not there at all. I also have sweaty fingers and such but never, never had a display or phone looking like that, so it is for sure a manufacture defect.
As for the replacement unit, why do you think that it wont fix the issue and probably would make it worse?
If I was in your situation I would take it back and request a third device which does not have that fault. I have seen many S9/+ devices but none of it had such issue.
All of my phones have this. For me, its the diamond stud I wear on my left ear. Doesnt scratch but puts a "mark" on all my phones in the exact same place. Clean off looks fine, run greasy finger and they all smudge on the same spot. Most likely the diamond earring rubs off the invisible coating.
Ask for another replacement. This is unacceptable for a premium device like the s9+.
I only hit reply so I could ask how dirty are you, but I see someone has already beat me to it. No problems with my screen.. not to mention it's older than yours and cleaner without me doing anything.
