I know I'll get flamed for this but...
Is there a way to do wireless tethering or usb tethering with 4g for the 1.5 HTC unlocked bootloader? Thanks and be kind.

i need help with getting wireless tether on my evo 3d but i understand i can only root htc method does anyone know it that's enough. thanks for any help
yup, should be fine that way.. barnacle tether works as well, or pda net (no root req)
i looked them up and they say that root is required. put I'm confused if i unlock my evo3d using htc method is that considered rooting
it is considerd unlockin....but the downside is u ll loose htc warranty...
OK but i have tried to read as much as possible for wifi tether and it seems everyone is having problems with running wireless tether after unlocking evo 3d
I was using Fre3vo to temp root my phone but now it wont work since the ota update of ics. I don't need to be able to change roms or anything else. The only reason I root my phone is to use wifi teather. Temp root worked great for me. That or is there a way to just root my phone without messing with the s-off. Or does anyone know of anything I can do so I can use wifi teather? Thanx in advanced.

That didnt work so i guess i am going to have to root the phone. What is the easiest way to root without loosing any info and not changing anything other than the fact the phone can use wifi tether. In other words i just need to be able to us apps that need root access.

Have you used that app on the Evo 3D? If you follow the link to the Play Store you posted on the other site and filter the reviews by device "PG86100" you will see that most people can't get it working on the Evo 3D. If you haven't tested it, it's always a good idea to mention that when referring people to apps or mods.
I know FoxFi works on the Evo 3D without root but only over a bluetooth connection and ClockworkMod tether works over USB without root. Those are the ones that I've tested.

Why do you have to have root for Wifi tethering? A Wifi terhering app is included in the stock ROM.
Sorry i am not being helpful, i'm just curious.

Because they lock it so u have to pay the $15 fee
And they don't have temp root for ics the last temp root was taco root for 2.17 in the original hboot downgrade method

Most Wi-Fi tether apps have to add or modify files in the system directories that are protected without root permission. The built-in hotspot has the files it needs pre-installed and they can be executed without root permission, the same as apps stored in the the /system/app directory. It also has additional checks in the ICS version to prevent unauthorized use and report tethering, so many people prefer alternative solutions.

I think that's the T-Mobile charge, but Sprint charges $30 per month to use your "unlimited" bandwidth on other devices.

I still don't understand. I bought my phone (without contract) in Germany (GSM, there's no such thing as cdma here) and there is no restriction of, or limit to the use of the Wifi Hotspot. Is this some US specific thing then? If i were to take my phone to the US and get a US sim card, would i face similar restrictions?
Sorry for derailing the thread btw, but this is relevant for me.

Rogers supports GSM phones in Canada, but there are no US GSM carriers (AT&T and T-Mobile) that support the Evo 3D on their networks. If your phone is unlocked and you can get it on to one of those networks, you would be restricted on AT&T without a data plan that covers tethering, and T-Mobile would severely throttle your bandwidth after about 2GB of usage in a billing period.
For those of us on Sprint or Virgin Mobile, which is the majority of Evo 3D users in the US, we are technically not allowed to do any tethering unless we pay for a $20(2GB)-$50(6GB)/month add-on tethering plan and use the Sprint provided hotspot app built into the ROM. Some people are grandfathered into the old tethering plan that was $30/month for 5GB.
Here's an article that covers the tethering rules for the major US carriers. You may be sorry you asked.

Is there a way to get the LGOG to allow usb tether when you don't use AT&T? I have stock, rooted AT&T JB on the phone. I'm using T-mobile for service. I read in another post that when the phone tries to tether it looks on your phone for the proper code from the carrier. can I bypass this? Thanks for your help.
Hello all,
I will be soon getting this at&t optimus g and I have data plan which allows tethering.
I will be unlocking this phone for using it on my airtel sim in india.
Last I had att phone,it was giving me errors to enable tethering and I am not sure if att would allow tethering on unlocked phone.
I did google but did not see any options to enable tethering.
what are my options to enable tether and remove all the bloat of at&t??
As I see,
1) Flash the international or canadian ROM of stock variety and use tether.
2) any other option
I want to stay stock jelly bean.
pls help.
thanks.

did that last at&t phone give you trouble with tethering on a non-at&t network? If that is true, then I guess it is the case that the phone requires authentication from the network before it will enable tethering. interesting. I know that with previous phones I had to flip a bit (enable -> disable) for some entry in a system SQLite DB so that the phone would stop trying to authenticate my tethering. I was rooted, and using wifi-tether, but it wouldn't work unless I turned that thing off.
On *this* phone, you always have the option of using wifi-tether and then you don't have to mess with the tethering authentication at all. All I did was root, download wifi-tether and set the profile to SGSIII. Things may have changed with jellybean, though.
Last phone were two actually.
First was motorola atrix 4g and then lumia 900.
Both had this issue.
Now I want to stay as stock rom as possible as I don't want to fiddle too much and waste efforts and all.
I was thinking,
Some carriers allow tethering by default.
What will happen if I root, bootloader unlock the device and flash different carrier firmware like say Canadian firm ware ?
Can it work out?
Making this e970 convert to say canadian or international ?
Can we debrand this device,we don't have any lte networks which are cellphones compatible.
So wont mind giving up on lte.
Thanks for reply.

Working for LGOG too...
I'm stock, rooted, and unlocked. I use the tethering feature with no problems all the time. It authenticates just fine.

Some one knows how to enable the Wifi Tethering on At&t version?
I'm using the phone in Colombia but Mobile HotSpot does not work, also I have an HTC One M8 At&t and I could Enable Wifi Tethering patching a file from the XDA M8 Forum after Unlocking bootloader and installed a custom recovery, does any one knows a similar process for the M9?
Hey guys!,
Why is this HTC M9 at&t forum so alone? please help me!
Other HTC at&t devices have a lot of forums and people helping each other, but why this one is so alone? Please any one say something
Call ATT to turn on the hotspot feature... or root and load up devel edition.
I'm a bit confused. I have an att m9 and can use it as a hotspot for my tablets and laptops by pushing a single button. is this what you are talking about?
