[Q] In China and still a high cell standby in Airplane Mode - HTC EVO 3D

Hey XDA,
I'm trying to find out why my battery is depleting so fast when I a) don't have any service here in Hong Kong and b) I'm in airplane mode.
I'm running Eternity 1.3 with the Kiggy kernel. I need a sense ROM so I can shoot some cool 3D photos but I would like my battery to last for a day of light usage.
Plus my flight back to the States is 16 hrs. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Lucky I want to be in China 2. Use steelh or myns. Whatever you like for battery life

Its pretty awesome. Lots of different food and cool landscapes. I've been here for 3 weeks so far, this is my last week. Thank goodness, starting to miss home now.

Since you are in HK, try grab some chaep batterys while you are there and problem solved.

hey justj,
went to the golden computer arcade around here to get some cheap batteries. I found out that the HTC EVO 3D just came out over here less than a month ago, so accessories are hard to find. I was able to find this guy selling on and a case, got both for 500 HKD so around 55 USD. Not bad but not a great deal that i was expecting.

I'll be stopping in HK, for a over night stay, on my way to Malaysia for a 3 week stay, this Xmas.
For the plane you should have a power connector. either a car type cigarette lighter connector or a regular two or three prong power cord connector. So you should be able to find an adapter at the Airport or somewhere in HK. Last Xmas on my way to Europe, I had no problem with a battery in ipod, computer, and phone on the plane.

Thanks boz. I'll find out what plugs Cathay Pacific uses. Enjoy HK, its a wonderful city to say the least.

[Q] Replacement battery

Has anyone had any luck with replacement batteries that come with an external charger? I see a few on Amazon but curious what you guys thought
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I bought the anker one's from ebay. It was posted at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16718161.
I didn't receive them yet so I don't have any input about it.
PS. Thanked you by accident, enjoy.

Just bought the Chichitek 1930mah...2 plus the wall charger for 29.99. So far, very impressed. 14 1/2 hours with moderate usage and still over 60%
Seems like the general consensus is the Anker and Chichitec batteries meet or exceed the OEM mAh rating. I'd stay away from the rest on Ebay, except OEM.
Another vote for Anker. I haven't tried the Chichitek.
I did a stress test on the anker, which... I guess it tells me the min amount of time I can use my phone straight for.
lasted roughly 1hr 45min with GPS, wimax, max brightness, WiFi tether on. I had the camera record for roughly 45 mins with flash on, and played some 3d golf.
Though I turned some stuff off during the 2 hours because I didn't want to look my phone.
Has everyone switched to the new battery, or are you still using the original one.

OK so I'm going to give my infuse to my little sister next month and get the Samsung galaxy s 2. But i want the best replacement battery i can possibly find. Who know of the best battery and the most hours or mah that will still fit into the regular cover.

Anker portable AC/DC wall charger w/ 2 batteries, 14.99 in US from eBay! MANY PICS!

Hello XDA. Another post to try and help the community. I just received my order from eBay and wanted to share.
So I decided to buy some extra batteries to have on hand so as not to run out of juice. In the process, I also wanted a separate charger to keep them charged. To my amazement, I found the Anker charger WITH 2 replacement batteries for $14.99 shipped from a California seller!
I also ordered a Hyperion desktop dock that has a built in charger for an extra battery. This dock should arrive later this week but also a California seller off eBay! I'll post when that arrives.
Anyway, back to the Anker. Packaging is nice. It's in retail packaging as if it's sold in stores. Comes with instructions too! The charger is universal and can charge many different styles of batteries. It also has a USB port to charge another item while it's charging battery. The other nice thing is it will charge from a wall outlet OR a car charger! The mini USB plug is also on the side with the USB port. I'm not so sure on the charging pins however as they seem a bit thin and will require to be lined up every time a battery is inserted. The pins slide from right to left to allow for different size batteries. That's another issue. The battery for the Note is so big that it has to sit off to one side to allow for the charging pins to make contact.
The batteries are also retail packaged and come with instructions. They are White in color... Matches my Note.... And seem about the same weight. They are listed at 2500Mah but I have yet to try them out for longevity.
There are many pics I've taken to try and paint a picture as to what you'll get if you decide to order. Hopefully this will help someone who may want or need them. Any questions, let me know!
Here goes:

The seller is laptopmate_usa. I have no affiliation with said seller nor can I vouch for them but I will say, shipped fast and free. They have a great feedback too. I figured it might be faster for anyone searching for this deal if I gave the name of the seller.
Hopefully these items will work and provide long lasting performance. If not, it was only $14.99.....

let us know the life for one full charge plz...
I got something similar for my Xperia Play last year. I only wanted the charger but it came with two batteries and was only £10 or £15.
I expected the two batteries to be useless but here I am a year later still using them, sometimes for weeks at a time as my primary battery as I tend to charge my phone a lot so it helps keep the official battery good for longer.
The batteries are of course not as good as the official one, probably around 75-80% as good but I have been very happy with them so far. So even if these batteries are similar that is money well spent in my opinion.
i got it at amazon at the same price 14.99$ (2 batteries and charger) with GUARANTEE 2 days deliver! i'm a Prime member. maybe due to popular demand, they raised the price to 16.99$ on amazon now.

i just use it like any other battery, charge it and use it.
after i got these inexpensive batteries, i havnt use the original samsung battery!
these anker battery last me the whole day just like original samsung battery. (i charge it when i go sleep).
the only time i swap battery is when phone battery is getting low or i forgot to charge it.
I also bought this same Anker deal for my Galaxy S -- off the same guy. They seemed to work as well as stock, though I didn't do any testing. They were supposed to be 300 mah bigger then stock -- I didn't notice a diference. Funny thing is it was more expensive for the batteries for my Galaxy S that are smaller then these haha. Anyways I'm not a huge fan of the charger. It says in the manual to not leave your battery charging for more then 24 hours, so I assume that means it continues to charge the battery after it reaches 100% and you'll want to take your battery off as soon as possible to avoid degradation. The charger is also made for any battery so it has these awkward sliding pins you have to set on your batteries + and - each time which can be a little annoying. Other then that, great buy.

This looks ideal for my needs.... I'm looking forward to any battery life info you can post, thanks!
I got these from a seller on Amazon for 8.99 I think it was. Couldn't go wrong. I actually get better life from these than my samsung battery!
Well, first charge cycle was in the 10.5 hour range with 3:25 minutes on screen. Charged it from %1 overnight so lets see what day 2 brings. I leave the wifi on as well as GPS and I'm in an LTE area with so-so signal. My average life is 12-13 hours with 2.5-3 hours screen so if I get the same oit of these, I'd be just fine with that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
got the same brand for about the same $, but for the Infuse. The batteries and the charger worked great.
Ok well charge cycle 2 is complete. About the same results. 12 hours total with 3:15 screen time. This was what I was getting with the original OEM battery. Off to cycle 3!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Day 3 brings 12 hour on batt with 3:45 hours of screen time. With crappy LTE signal , wifi and GPS on and updates every hour. Charged from %1 on the Hyperion dock I bought out of the phone. Will report tomorrow sfter 4th charge cycle. So far, so good!

EVO LTE is a life saver during the mid-atlantic power outage

The battery life on this has been great as it has been my access to the modern world since I haven't had power for four days. I'm on the Ohio/West Virginia border (huntington) where 300,000 are without power. It makes for a good apocalypse, but there aren't any zombies... yet.
Any other EVO users without power?
I've had to charge it fully once since Friday, and one other time I let it charge for about an hour. Though, it seems that a car charger doednt charge it as well as an ac wall charger does. A car charger seems slow and mostly ineffective.

Hope you all get your power restored soon. Car charging works best with at least 20-25% battery life left on the phone. So don't let your battery get too low if charging in car. But it will always charge slower via car...

Columbus, OH here - the LTEvo held battery pretty well during the 36 hours I was w/o power. Put it on a USB charger for about 2 hours when I came into work for a bit, and maybe 30 min sporadically on car charger. While off charger, I still maintained moderate usage. It tended to chug the most battery during periods of high network usage, which I chalked up to tower outages and high-priority communication taking precedence.
Western VA here, no power since Friday. Held charge from Friday night (was off charger from work since 6), all the way to Saturday until I was able to get to a place to charge. Did heavy Facebook/Texts/Calls and held like a champ. Really thankful of the battery life, was able to tell everyone I'm safe and find a place to stay (my grandma's retirement community still had power).
Not looking like they'll restore power in my area until Saturday, or late Sunday
Also seems like some Sprint towers were hit, had no coverage in my apartment unless I went outside, and didn't have coverage at work on Saturday (they opened to workers and their families since they had power). Seems to be coming up now, had terrible data at the beginning of the day but slowly started coming back and was fine at the end of the day.
Northeastern Ohio here. We have power thankfully. Was in the outer banks when the storm hit. Hope you guys get power back soon

Yeah car chargers are low amperage like USB. Unless you purchased a 1 amp one it likely won't charge well. The 1 amp one I have blows the fuse in my car frequently so I stopped using it.
Certainly hope everyone stays hydrated and cool as possible until power gets back on. Dehydration creeps up on you and will body slam you on concrete if you aren't careful.

I'm near Washington DC and I've been without power since Friday night with everyday being over 90°. I was actually pretty pissed off on Saturday because I had no cell phone service nor data I guess because of the storm but I understand it's not sprints fault and you can't control nature. I was staying at my wives grandmas house and I drove an hour back to my house and was supposed to call my wife about more supplies needed but couldn't so it was pretty frustrating. Anyway apparently my power won't be back on until Friday night so that blows.

Lost complete data connection around 9am on the NW side of town (Dublin/Hilliard), and Sprint rep advised nearby towers were receiving upgrades. Hard to tell if she was blowing smoke and has no clue or if she was legit. Fingers crossed it's the latter, as I'm going on almost 2 hours w/ no 3G.
Frederick,MD here, we got lucky as we are attached to a priority power trunk (goes to a medical facility) do we were down just under 12 hours, but no cable/net the whole weekend, so burned it up, battery was great, signal wasn't bad either since I wasn't on wifi, not great, but not unusable either

I think my Battery is dying. For sure!

Hi all here is my situation I've had my phone now for about 18 months or maybe a bit longer it wont charge to 100% every single time sometimes does sometimes doesn't. Phone turns itself off even at 50% power left then when re-started shows 0%, wait a while, maybe 10 or 20 mins then re-start again sometimes shows more power than before (today went off @ 56% came back on @ 84%, go figure). Back in the old days of nicads and ni-mh batteries there is a phenomenon called "recovery" where they magically get recharged from "sub-space" and then they last a bit longer.
up untill the past week I thought li-ion batteries were immune from the phenomenon of "recovery" but they have now showed me to not know as much as I thought....
Oh, the other dead (pardon the pun ) give away that my battery is dying, is the fact that it has started to buldge and is now a little hard to get out of the phone lucky for me *touch wood, its not getting hot while charging, cause u know these things can go BANG and make big damages....
Just thought I'd share some wisdom of something new I've learned, who knows maybe some else can learn something new too...
P.s. I've already ordered a battery set from eBay, 2 * 1500 mAh plus wall charger for AU$ 10 +$4 quick delivery... will have to see if those batteries are better than the stock batteries.
Sent from my Legend using xda app-developers app
Sorry to hear, but my stock battery's the best. It still provides advertised hours of stock, sometimes even more on custom ROMs.
But on the contrary, I did use two other third-party batteries, both from eBay, both from Hong Kong with the dreaded 6-week shipping to Canada. The first one lasted fine after the first year, the second one died on the day I used it @ 30%. I threw it in the snow (I think that's illegal and dangerous, oops) in rage. But the first one, as it aged its very short third-party imitative age, began to bulge, like yours.
I stopped using it and placed it in my wallet pocket as an emergency battery for whenever I'd really need it. Since my wallet is always on my person and I live in cold-cold-Canada, the battery was always warm from body heat, something I believed damaged it to the point of disrepair.
A few months ago on a trip to the States, I had to use it, but unsurprisingly it lasted for around half an hour at every charge and would never charge > 16%. Ouch.
I'm now back to one battery, but it suits me. The only thing I need now from my Legend is SMS and Wi-Fi Hotspot.
Regarding difficulties in removing the battery, have you tried the red lever? My bulgy battery was bulged for months before I figured that thing out, so I always either had to use it as a primary battery, or spend a few hours periodically shaking it out in a very gross, suggestive hand gesture before it got out ENOUGH to push the battery out. Pain in the bum! I found it, and it was a godsend from HTC, them probably knowing we'd use third-party batteries. <3
Yes, thanks for the red lever tip, although I did know that one already I could not use my finger to pull the red tab/lever down as the battery was a bit tight, I had to get a flat screw driver to latch onto the red tab to pull it down as it hurt like hell trying to use my finger.

Finally received my set of 2 * 1500 mAh and charger today now for the endurance testing
Sent from my Legend using xda app-developers app
Well this is fantastic, now my phone lasts all day and doesn't turn off at random intervals even when showing 92%. I have a thought how the hell can the health report for the old battery shows "good" when its doing what it was
My first full charge I got 23 hours this encluded 2 hrs 30 mins of continues screen on and mobile internet (gave it a good hammering) 2*20 min phone calls and various other short stints on the net and sundrys.
Next endurance test will have to be continues music playback, back in the old days I used to get about 9 hrs music playback.

So it looks like the old saying of you get what you pay for is very true, best to avoid cheap Chinese ebay batteries.

Spare Battery Kit in U.S./Verizon?

Hi all,
Has anyone seen one of these on sale in the U.S. yet?
http://www.fonearena.com/blog/84235/samsung-galaxy-note-3-extra-battery-kit-unboxing.html
I've seen it called an extra battery kit, spare battery kit, etc...and sometimes it has a small area to use as a stand for the phone, too. I had one of these for my Galaxy Nexus and it was very handy to charge my spare batteries. I'm hoping it's not necesary to use since I should see a pretty massive difference in battery life out of this phone, but I'd still like to get one. Preferably at Verizon, if possible, due to my 25% off discount, but I don't see it listed there yet, granted they just started selling the phone this morning.
Thanks!
I also hope Verizon (or Amazon) carries this charger/spare battery. It really looks like it's nicely sized to carry as a spare battery, and makes recharging easy. Thanks for the video.
I've been looking high & low for the extra charger kit but so far no dice. I found some on expansys & mobile fun but they're sold out. I NEED this charger kit as I hate being tied to a power cord lol

http://www.mobilefun.com/40798-official-samsung-galaxy-note-3-extra-battery-kit.htm
GOD! I hate this white crap. Buying a black phone and receiving white charger, white a/c outlet, now accessories are found only in white; I'd understand if you bought a white handset, but cmon! Where's the love for black accessories for black handsets?!?
If you are planning on getting a spare battery/charger bundle just wait for Samsung to post them on their site. When you register your phone you get a 50% off code good for 90 days so paying like $25 for the battery and charger unit beats paying Verizon $50 for the battery alone.
Yes I agree, the 50% OFF deal is killer but waiting is the hard part. Samsung is taking their sweet time putting these up on their site tho.
Yeah! I got 50 percent off my wireless charger for my Nexus 7. Waiting to see how much a wireless backplate is as well.
