My neo is getting quite hot when on 3g. Is that normal?
Cheers
Mine got hot when charging for a long time. Can you be more specific where it becomes hot. I don't have a data plan and I only use WiFi, so I cannot help you further.
It gets hot in the front, close to the speaker and front camera. When using wifi it doesn't happen.
It gets hot too when i play games like nova, but not as hot as using the 3g.
well that isn't normal. have you overclocked?
Sent from my MT15i using XDA Premium App
In my experience it's normal that the Neo became a little hot while playing and use 3g connection, but mainly in the upper back side, in the region above the camera.
It was not overclocked A friend of mine said his arc gets hot too, so i guess this is normal...

When charging the same area gets hot. You might ask your local Sony Ericsson customer support about it, but I think it's normal.

So like with the original EVO, I used it to navigate with Google Navigation. The phone heated up sometimes but not by much. However, the EVO 3D seems to heat up the point of almost burning at the touch. Anyone else get this?
Some of them overheat. My first one didn't, my 2nd one did, my current one doesn't. My girlfriends first one did her current one doesn't. Her's was exchanged specifically because of it getting too hot. Mine had screen issues.
You should exchange it.
Well when you use navigation you are using the GPS, data to keep the map current, display to show it all. All of these things cause the phone to heat. If you have it charging while navigating it will heat more. Heat is a totally normal product of hardware doing its job.
Now, if it gets burning hot, melts your components, anything like that, there is call for alarm.

Yeah, well whenever im using my GPS im usually not using it as a phone. But when I do happen to get a phone call, its like putting a hot coal against my face X.x.
I mean it's hotter than a laptop would be if it was running full on. Maybe I will exchange it...I don't want there to be problems in the future.

What temperature does it get to? Was it charging while using it? Was the sun on it at all? Was the air on in your car, or was it hot? All of those things can.play a role as well, especially while using gps.

I know lots of users are experiencing overheating. I'm just wondering if it's all or just a select few of the phones. My phone has been perfect aside from the overheating. No sounds screen or pink button issues. I'm debating whether to call amazon and order a replacement. I'd hate to get one back that has more problems than the one have.

its part of having a 4G phone. the radio's to blame. same thing happened with the Thunderbolt, Charge & even heard of people with Bionic's having the same issue.
So getting to 117° in 15 min of play is normal?

The only time i over-heat is when using the MHL adapter. Havn't tried playing 3d intensive games for longer than 10 minutes, so not sure about that (i'll try later tonight, they won't let me play at work).
Might be that the screen is on too long at high brightness rather than just the processor taking in to many inputs? Or it might be the 4g, cause I was streaming movies when watching on the MHL... it'd be nice to know what people are doing that makes there phones overheat so we can analyze more results.
Never had an overheat on my rezound. I run wifi daily all during work. usually only streaming pandora or gmusic over wifi. netflix on some days but never gets hot. mostly on wifi so not sure about 4G.
With the 4g network down in Chicago yesterday I was plugged into a wall outlet and streaming through a radio feed via dolphin and my phone wasn't overheating in 2g. Coincidence? I think not lol. Will be testing my replacement rezound starting today we will see how this one goes.

Ditto, mine runs on wi-fi at work and at home but has never run hot charging or on 4G when out and about.

Mine overheats after continuos anything. Always on 4g. It's been to 140.1 before and is reguraly above 120.

Mine was heating up to just below 120. I contacted our rep who offered to switch it out. I told him I'd be happy to just try a different battery, but he said he'd rather switch out the whole thing. 3 days later I have another new Rezound. So far, no heat issues. (Knocking on wood.)
Is the the battery itself or the phone. I got my replacement phone today but has pink buttons so. I'd rather just swap batteries

its through amazon wireless and they give me 30 days from the shipping date to return. They also did overnight delivery for the nes one which was awesome.
anyways I just played a game that over heated my phone to 115 then I stop pulled the battery. I'm waiting a half hour or so so my phone cools down then I'll do the same game with the nee battery and we'll see how that goes. If it over heats I'll repeat the process in the new phone. Sure hope its just the battery
Are you in an area that gets a good data signal? When I was in an area where the phone was working hard to keep the 4G signal,it would warm up.
(My Thunderbolt).

I have good signal but the 4g is irrelevant to my overheating. I turn it off. Clear all apps. Start the game (little war game or whatever) and it gets over 110 degrees atleast after ten minutes.
original phone overheated both batteries. Testing new phone now

Anyone experience this? I noticed when my phone is plugged in and i play a game for 5 mins the top half of my phone gets to 47-48 degrees... Almost too hot to hold. When I leave it alone it stays about 10 degrees cooler. Anyone know what might be causing this?

The current to your phone and the addition of you doing something causes the processor to get hot. That's it.
Are you using the flip case from Samsung?

I didnt do anything to the phone.. This was a replacement from my original one that was randomly rebooting and freezing.. Im just worried i might damage the internals.. Anyways i called rogers for another replacement. They are sending it as soon as i return my original

Thanks for bringing this up, it's quite relevant to my interests.
Mine also gets hot. I recently upgraded my folks' phones to ATT Galaxy S II's (non Skyrocket) and they both get very hot when surfing on battery power via data. My battery monitor widget said 103'F at one point.
My Note also feels a little laggy (not hugely so) and has crashed a couple of times. The battery life is atrocious (coming from an iPhone 4)... I'm considering exchanging it at ATT as I'm still well within my 30 days. Rooting and freezing all the usual suspect apps hasn't helped.

Whats weird is that my original one didnt get hot but was laggy and freezing up. This ones the exact opposite.. Fast as hell and hot. Now i did a couple tests and the only difference was that the white on my current phone had a slight yellowish tint on the original. Battery life i get 12-17 hours on both.

Depending on the task mine got hot anywhere between 5 or 10 mins
Sent from my SGH-I717R using XDA
My first note would her extremely hot between 117f and 130f while idle on a charger from the top half up. Used a thermal temp sensor from my liquid cooling to measure temp. According to a friend of mine manager at an att, said the heat problem is the biggest for return and that from what he's found out talking a Sammy rep that the cpu and memory in some units through shipping and handling have been loosened from their respective heat transfer system.
So basically manufacture defect and if it gets hot replace it. It'll hurt the internals.

feel bad for the ones having all the problems.....its hard for me to get my phone to even reach 40C and thats while watching movies and pausing and making calls. the playing a game. i have to do ALOT to get it that hot.
i have noticed the pocket thing though, if i keep it in my jacket pocket it seem to get hotter faster even though i am not doing anything on it at all. but it goes right back down again after i pull it out for about 3 min.

I'm wondering if I have ANOTHER bad S3. First one never heated up at the bottom but had a bad volume rocker that didn't work. Got it replaced and now this one always gets hot at the bottom. My usage hasn't changed... I'm wondering, is this normal.

I just got my phone yesterday so I haven't really had time to use it. However, when I was downloading all of my apps from the Play Store, I did think it was very hot on the bottom half of the back.
That being said, I'm going to go to the store tonight to get my phone replaced due to loose/clicky home button.
Mine only gets hot at the bottom when playing intensive games like Dead Trigger on max, which seems normal. If it is getting hot all the time on normal use that doesn't seem very normal.
Mine gets hot at the bottom with normal use. :-(
warm at the bottom with normal use. nature of the beast. slim, high powered phone, its gonna get hot
Mine gets warm sometimes on its own with the screen off and everything just sitting in my pocket. Without playing very graphically intensive games though, it won't get what I consider hot. At least coming from my old DINC.

Things like this are a big reason why I'm very hesitant to exchange my phone even though it has problems. You might always end up with one that has worse problems than the first one you had.

yeah mine gets slightly warm at bottom under light to moderate use. doesnt really bother me at all.
It's a powerhouse phone that's so slim of course you're going to feel the heat. If anyone thinks they have a problem with their phone download "Cool Tools" and you can check the temperature live.
I know during easy use like sending a text the phone is cool.
Moderate use like surfing the web or watching a video the bottom half gets warm.
Heavy use such as playing Dead Trigger or Nova will cause it to get hot. But just like any electronic device the more use the hotter the temp. Sadly phones unlike desktop PC's don't have cooling fans.
WARM/HOT IS OKAY! STOP FREAKING OUT PEOPLE!
Mine has only ever gotten slightly warm at the bottom, and never hot or noticable. That was while constantly dropping in/out of service and heavy usage. Other than that it has been very cool, even when charging.
Also those with a case will feel the heat differently as well.. If you have a case you're less likely to notice the heat.
Those without a case will feel the effect more.
Either way too many of you freak out over nothing.
I think this is funny because when the new ipad came out (which i love btw) everyone was writing articles left and right all over the internet about it getting hot.
It's normal for it to get warm/slightly hot especially when using it while it's charging. But really anything after a few minutes of use will make it begin to warm up. Then toss in videos or games and it will warm up some more. As phones get more powerful and thinner the more we will feel the heat. I mean these are miniature computers but unlike laptops or desktops they don't have the luxury of a fan and ventilation system. The heat has to go somewhere right? Every dual core phone i've used gets warm. My Sensation actually gets extremely hot (HTC said it was normal), and my Bionic gets pretty darn hot too.
I returned mine because it was getting extremely hot after only 5 mins of lite web browsing. Back to my S2 or Gnex I guess.
I hear what you guys are saying, but my first one didn't get warm. I don't do any intense gaming or watch videos. I use the Facebook app, instagram, I text and make a few phone calls. The second one gets warm and the first one disnt... Same usage

Got mine yesterday, noticed that it also gets warm on the bottom.
Have one of those belkin cases that covers the rim but leaves the back exposed, so I definitively notice it.
However, as some have said, wouldn't worry to much about it.
OP, do you have the exact same settings as in your old one? Mainly motion actions, Svoice listening for wakeup command all the time, etc?

Usually Navigation does that to any phone, and I can only imagine a metal one.
Mine gets hot too when doing backups or installing a lot of apps. Powers aver doesn't help it either. I don't mind it though. For these first few days I've been using it a lot more than I ever would normally.
