I think so. HDMI also doesn't transmit sound if I'm right.

Hmdi transmits video and audio. If your monitor has a headphone jack you will get sound out.
No jack on monitor..
But as neo has it, can i plug my speakers into it to enjoy sound with video ??
Please if you can plug the hdmi and check that whether it transmits sound from 3.5 jack while in tv-out

I've just received the MHL adapter and am excited to be able to use my monitor to display the phone's screen. But my monitor does not have a audio output, so the audio through the HDMI cannot be played. I've rooted and am on the Cognition 1.07 ROM, So is there a hack to route the audio through the 3.5 mm jack when sending the video through the HDMI using the MHL adapter?
Thanks guys,
Did you work out a way to do this? I am thinking of buying an MHL adapter but like you my display does not have sound.
I need to know an answer to this! My monitor doesnt have speakers and theres no way for me to hear the video!
My Dell monitor has 5.1 channel analog 3.5mm sockets at the back for HDMI audio output.
on my SG2 I still can use the audio jack for audio output (headset or just go into any amplifier-audio_in, or any computer etc....) when I use the HDMI cable for TV.
Hey RbbChan what ROM are you using?

Hey how did you get it to work? Which ROM and Kernel?
Same problem for me guys...that's a very unpleasent situation!
It can be solved via software though, I'm pretty sure because there is a lag of about half a second between the audio disappears after I connect the HDMI cable, it can't be hardware only.
Is there a place in this forum when we can ask developers to try and find a fix in their custom ROMs ?
I tried this and it worked (audio through my headphones) but the audio also came out through my TV.
VillianRom 2.42/Ninphetamine Kernel.

Muting the TV ought to do the trick,no?
Thats always a viable option.

Thank you Killer Bee! It works!!!
I know this thread is a couple of months old but I just wanted to say this saved me from buying an unnecessary $100+ HDMI audio breakout. The headphone jack fit the bill since my new monitor doesn't have audio output.
I'm having the same issue as OP (no sound through headphone jack on SGSII while MHL adapter plugged in). From the other posts it seems like using VillianRom 2.42/Ninphetamine Kernel would work?
Would any other roms & kernels work?
Thanks
I want to know if it is possible to use the 3.5 mm from motorola razr for audio when using HDMI. I want to hook it up to my projector but the projector has only 1 watt audio out.
I bet you can. If no-one answers before, I'll test for you tomorrow morning as I have all the gear.

Yep it does work as expected. used netflix to test and mirrored display on my tv through hdmi and 3.5mm jack to my 2.1 speakers. Sounds great!
Sorry, I'm not very technically minded. How did you do it exactly? And could this be done with any HDMI phone? I am asking because I can't do it on my xperia neo and was wondering if the razr was any different.
What I need to do with my atrix is plug in a microphone via 3.5mm jack and playback over 3.5mm output to stereo. I've seen adapters to plug in with stereo 3.5mm and microphone 3.5mm to 1 3.5mm jack. I know the atrix has multi functions on the 3.5mm jack. I wasn't sure how I could harness this function within the Android OS?
So I plan on getting a studio quality microphone with a standard 3.5mm jack. I'll be plugging this into the atrix by a 2 way dongle if that's possible? Input/output dongle? Then it'll be outputting the audio from the microphone to the speakers for amplification or whatever output source of choice.
Usually I'd use my laptop to do this function. However, my laptop is a huge pain to use and I'd prefer to use my phone since it's way more convenient.
THANKS GUY'S!
Can the atrix record from external microphone?
Studio mike to mini Jack is s waste of time. You need a balanced cannon socket to get the benefit.

Thats cool I was wondering if I could record using an external microphone?
I can record from the Mic on my headphones, do I don't see why not.

That's great to know. So then how could I then playback what's being recorded in real time?
Sounds like you are trying to use it as a multi track recorder. Have you tried one of the multi track apps? Something like audio evolution et al?

Great idea. Now that's promising! If there's an app that can precisely control each individual steps on the 3.5mm jack. There might be several functions available like spdif out via 3.5mm dongle or something? Or a audio brick with a microphone input and stereo output so once that cable is dialed in. It should honestly work perfectly. As long as the app can hold it's own. I'll check it out.
What cable do you think I should use for this function?
Any other apps available? How easy would it be to write?
You're looking into making your Atrix to act like external audio interface with low latency monitoring. No, AFAIK you won't get satisfying results on any android device. It has something to do how android drivers handle audio. I was looking into iRig for android and found out that it's not going to happen.
However, high quality recording is possible. You would need adapter with preamplifier. I found a perfect one (MIKI) and have seen it in action. It enables your android device to use any dynamic mic for recording. Using appropriate adapter with this you could even use condenser mics. Price tag of €100 is the only thing that's holding me back to buy it.
Accompany it with app such as PC Recorder and you're all set to go.
Yeah, the audio stack in Android is pretty crap. I'm guessing it's the whole running in a java vm instead of native code?
My old 2007 2G iPhone with its 128MB RAM and ~500MHz cpu works fine as guitar effects processor, my last year's dual core Atrix with 1GB RAM lags like a mofo. As does every Android phone we tried. Get the basics right Google!

I can't find that device anymore?

I need to plug in a mic into android phone then playback over the 3.5mm stereo output.
THANKS
Good news everyone!

Can't find a place where I can buy the software and cables and accessories to do this. I'd be very interested to buy it.
What the title says. Whenever I listen to music in ny car through the aux jack and charge my phone theres just a ridiculous amount of static. Whenever i disconnect the charger the static just disappears. Does this happen to anyone else? Anyone know a fix?

all good here
but being a bit of an audio guy.. u may have a problem w/ your charger or your aux cable. audio signals get screwy when when they come close to a power source. so try other cables first before worrying too much.
this is the reason that when u install a car stereo, u run the power cable on one side of the car and the audio cables on the other.

Hi guys,
I'm looking to purchase a new mobile soon and liked the idea of the 120fps video possibility the z2 brings. However one of the main things I will be using the phone for is as my car's audio system. It takes a digital signal via coaxial. I have a hdmi to coaxial converter to strip out the audio signal and I know it is possible to purchase a miniusb to hdmi cable for the phone which I can then power off the car battery with a 12v to 5v converter - however does the phone itself support doing this? Is there any apps that will output the digital file without processing it through the phones dac? Is there a limit to the bit quality of the sample e.g. 44.
Many thanks for any help with this - sorry if it's a dumb question but I didn't manage to find the answer when I browsed the forum.
If there is an alternative phone that would be better for this please recommend away! (I briefly looked at the Meizu quad core phone but the phone itself doesn't have much support and if I'm correct the newer versions of android may support what I am trying to achieve?)
Cheers!
Darren
the stock rom/kernel comes with native support for USB audio. I've used it with a fiio e17 which has an SPDIF out

Thank you for the reply! What are you using cable wise? Mini usb to hdmi to a splitter then to s/pdif input into the fiio e17? Did you have to change the options to output digital audio? Does it bypass the equalizer/dac in the phone?
Many thanks!
