[Q] help with getting wireless tether in evo 3d hboot 1.5 - HTC EVO 3D

i need help with getting wireless tether on my evo 3d but i understand i can only root htc method does anyone know it that's enough. thanks for any help

yup, should be fine that way.. barnacle tether works as well, or pda net (no root req)

i looked them up and they say that root is required. put I'm confused if i unlock my evo3d using htc method is that considered rooting

it is considerd unlockin....but the downside is u ll loose htc warranty...

OK but i have tried to read as much as possible for wifi tether and it seems everyone is having problems with running wireless tether after unlocking evo 3d

[Q] Need answers for some questions.

Hi, I recently bought a EVO 3d GSM from vodafone australia. i am new to htc and htc sense. i previously used xperia x10, which had a fairly simple OS
anyways i have some questions if someone can please clarify them.
1. i cant make internet calls when i am on 3G network, it asks me to connect to wifi to make calls. is there any workaround for that apart from installing another app.
2. i am currently on HBoot version, 1.49.0013, i cant seem to find any thread on that. does it mean its here only in australia?
3. how about using HTC unlock method on my phone untill revolutionary come with their unlock method? are there any downsides for that?
I would really appreciate if anyone would ans it.
Im not sure about the other 2 questions, but as for the 3rd, i read that you will void some or all of your warranty if you use HTC's method. Revolutionary you could fool people by unrooting it

I am with Telstra and have HBOOT 1.49.0012, I used the HTC unlock method and have root and can do pretty much what I like, as for voiding the warranty, I do believe HTC will not warrant any failures due to operating system, I highly doubt they will void the warranty due to unlocking if the screen fails or rocker switches etc fail.
But then again I am not HTC, and they are a law upon themselves.
hey mate, i bought the same device same day as yours
i m in vodafone as well with 1.49.0013
and i've got sim unlock and bl unlock by official
still finding the method for s-off.
Ya, waiting for devs to come up with s–off.

[Q] How do I disable activation on the Evo View? Only plan to use Wifi

Since the Evo View's were cheaper on Ebay than the standard Flyer, I bought one but want it as a wifi tablet only. Is there a way to disable activation so that it doesn't try to activate when I reboot?
I am S-Off and rooted using revolution. Currently using stock GB but looking at other roms and probably HC when I feel its more ready. Is there a simple zip to flash or some root setting I can change?
And since I only care about wifi, can I flash "flyer" roms on my evo view since I dont need any of the baseband/4g stuff?

[Q] Is there anything like fre3vo that works after the ota update of ics

I was using Fre3vo to temp root my phone but now it wont work since the ota update of ics. I don't need to be able to change roms or anything else. The only reason I root my phone is to use wifi teather. Temp root worked great for me. That or is there a way to just root my phone without messing with the s-off. Or does anyone know of anything I can do so I can use wifi teather? Thanx in advanced.

That didnt work so i guess i am going to have to root the phone. What is the easiest way to root without loosing any info and not changing anything other than the fact the phone can use wifi tether. In other words i just need to be able to us apps that need root access.

Have you used that app on the Evo 3D? If you follow the link to the Play Store you posted on the other site and filter the reviews by device "PG86100" you will see that most people can't get it working on the Evo 3D. If you haven't tested it, it's always a good idea to mention that when referring people to apps or mods.
I know FoxFi works on the Evo 3D without root but only over a bluetooth connection and ClockworkMod tether works over USB without root. Those are the ones that I've tested.

Why do you have to have root for Wifi tethering? A Wifi terhering app is included in the stock ROM.
Sorry i am not being helpful, i'm just curious.

Because they lock it so u have to pay the $15 fee
And they don't have temp root for ics the last temp root was taco root for 2.17 in the original hboot downgrade method

Most Wi-Fi tether apps have to add or modify files in the system directories that are protected without root permission. The built-in hotspot has the files it needs pre-installed and they can be executed without root permission, the same as apps stored in the the /system/app directory. It also has additional checks in the ICS version to prevent unauthorized use and report tethering, so many people prefer alternative solutions.

I think that's the T-Mobile charge, but Sprint charges $30 per month to use your "unlimited" bandwidth on other devices.

I still don't understand. I bought my phone (without contract) in Germany (GSM, there's no such thing as cdma here) and there is no restriction of, or limit to the use of the Wifi Hotspot. Is this some US specific thing then? If i were to take my phone to the US and get a US sim card, would i face similar restrictions?
Sorry for derailing the thread btw, but this is relevant for me.

Rogers supports GSM phones in Canada, but there are no US GSM carriers (AT&T and T-Mobile) that support the Evo 3D on their networks. If your phone is unlocked and you can get it on to one of those networks, you would be restricted on AT&T without a data plan that covers tethering, and T-Mobile would severely throttle your bandwidth after about 2GB of usage in a billing period.
For those of us on Sprint or Virgin Mobile, which is the majority of Evo 3D users in the US, we are technically not allowed to do any tethering unless we pay for a $20(2GB)-$50(6GB)/month add-on tethering plan and use the Sprint provided hotspot app built into the ROM. Some people are grandfathered into the old tethering plan that was $30/month for 5GB.
Here's an article that covers the tethering rules for the major US carriers. You may be sorry you asked.
