Hi there,
First i want to introduce myself to this forum.
Am a french canadian so please forgive me my bad writting skills if i make mistakes (and i will), am 32, never had a tab or smartphone before.
Also i never liked the "apple" way of thinking wich mean to me, join our world and stick in it.
Am a pc user and i wanted to get a good androïd tab, I made lots of research before stopping my decision on the Samsung Galaxy 10.1. I own it for a week now and i found it run smoothly, came pretty complete and is easy of use.
Like stated on other topics, i sometime get some lag but i use the "active app task manager" widget that come with the tab to clear some memory and it fix the problem.
As i stated in my profile, am a real estate broker and i bought that tab mostly for my job. (surfing the web, looking at houses pictures, city evaluation, pdf's)
Of course I'll use it on the side for listening to music, watching movies, surfing the net, play games etc...
Now before going any further, here is my specs :
Tab: Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-PR7500R 16gb
Firmware : Honeycomb 3.1
Operator : Rogers
Plan : 4G data only, 500mb/months
Since i got my tab, i kept looking over and over to find some nice apps, tips, and other interesting stuff.
I found that, except if you what you're looking for, its kinda hard to find good stuff.
Am new in the androïd/Tab world so i don't really know what I'm looking for, I dont want to change the firmware (wich i saw is a very popular thing to do)
I just want some advices about the best apps/hint/tips/tricks that i should get (either if i need to pay or not)
Now I know some of you will say ; well we dont know ur interests etc...
I just want to know what stuff I shouldnt pass by, or what i really need to know about the usage of my tab
For thoses that will read all this and anwser me ; THANK YOU !
for the others, well f** j/k of course

You're not alone. I was a PC man even before anyone knew who Bill Gates was, and still am, but also have recently nose dived into the Android world by why of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy SII.
My suggestions would be:
Use this XDA site a LOT. I'm actually subscribed to all of the Tab forums so I get a recap each morning, and every day I am finding out something I did not know.
When you go hunting for programs to use with your Tab, I would suggest the Android Market (the andrioid icon with the word "market" under it), and/or
The Amazon App Store for Android.
I might also suggest the following sites:
http://www.bestandroidappsreview.com/
http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/
http://gizmodo.com/
http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-computing/tablets
Hope that helps!
thank you,
I do look on xda and other sites about some new stuff from day to day.
I would say that most of the subjects are out of interest for me or simply too complicated for a newbee like me.
Im surfing the market almost everyday but there is so many apps, i go with the top ranking but sometimes the best ones arent the ones beeing dowloaded the most.
I really like that Best android apps review site
thank you for your help
The learning curve is indeed steep for new android users on a site like this where the majority of topics are development based. But we all started somewhere. Once you become familiar with your devices and the OS specifics things will become clear. There are many good guides here on XDA, and other forums, for android beginners that answer a lot of questions. Welcome to this great community. And have FUN learning about your device!
One Other Suggestion
I forgot to say, one thing I do is try and think of "what" I need the device to do (it be the Tab or my SII), then when I am in the Android Marketplace or the Amazon Apps site, I search based on that "need".
In my case, the very first thing I wanted on both of my devices was an app for all of my financial institutions (Banks, credit card co's, etc). So I did a search for the specific apps, such as "bank of america", "chase", and so on. Of course, I make sure to use apps provided direct from that company for security reasons.
But anyways, the point is, I work the search function HARD!
Salut Nainconpetant
Si ta des questions spécifique gène toi pas, j'étais à la même étape que toi le mois passé, mais ici c'est le meilleur forum pour trouver des réponses
Hi Nainconpetant, I'm from Quebec too,
I have a 4G tab, but I'm with Telus.
If you are looking for a good video player : "Dice player" is the best. (it is not free but if you expect to watch movies, you should consider to buy it)
My suggestion :
if you want to try another browser : Dolphin for Pad
phone call : Skype.
pour accéder aux fichiers de la tablette : File Manager HD
Si tu utilise Twitter : Plume (the widget is very good)
"Quebec 511" vient d'etre mis à jour pour supporter les tablettes.
Films : IMDB
if you want a widget for your battery % : Battery Widget
if you listen podcasts : BeyondPod (for honeycomb)
Pour lire le journal (qc/mtl la presse etc) : Press Reader
un bon widget pour facebook : Wizz Widget
pour les Torrents : tTorrent
About the lag, I get less lag since I removed the "Social Hub" widget.
And keep most of your widgets on the other screen, not on the main one.
It can help too.
Si ta d'autres question hésite pas a m'écrire un msg en privée.

Okay this is the score
I have an xda (uk)
tomtom2
and a 256mb sd card
the reason i baught all this is my car is a 7 seater and as such it now runs on LPG and what i want to do is input all the lpg sites in the uk into tomtom2 as POI but is there a quick and easy way of doing it? i have a 44 page document with the address and post codes and i have also a database of speed cameras using poi checker installed.
but to manualy input 44 pages of lgp sites will take YEARS is there either a quick way or has someone else allready done what im looking for
thanks in advance
Tronto
Theres no easy way through the tomtom software. it would be quicker to drive round and save all the locations as you passed the garages (thats a joke by the way)
You can build POI databases using a piece of software called POIEdit ( http://www.dnote.nl/pda/poi/PoiEdit ) but you will need the coordinates not the addresses.
Im sorry but I guess thats not really what you wanted to hear, was it.
not really no lol
if i have the address is there anywhere i can look up on the net to get the co-ord's?
www.multimap.com will take postcodes and return a map + coordinates in the map info section.
i think ive found what your looking for. At www.poihandler.com they have lpg lists for several countries including UK (I assume thats where your from)
You need to register but its free and then you ca download the poi databases.
I hope thats more usefull to you than my last post...
Oops - I forgot to log in...
Good luck with the LPG POI...
thats excellent THANKS
Hello,
This is my very first application (as a .net newbie), so I kept it quite simple (yet useful).
This application uses the traffic informations provided by SNCF, through your network connection and presents the results in a finger-friendly manner.
Please report any bug (like cancelled trains and other features I may have missed).
This has been tested on QVGA, VGA and WVGA, but it should work on any resolution, landscape and portrait.
Thanks to michyprima for the ManilaSDK
PS: This requires that .NetCF 3.5 is installed on your device.
PPS: This is only in french (as I didn't start working on internationalization)
History:
- v1.6: 20 new trainstations added and service has been restored
- v1.5: User agent changed to work on SFR network
- v1.4: Complete rewrite, with over 160 train stations and 340 Transiliens hard coded, favorites stations, new glossy interface, options, lots of bugfixes
- v1.1: Added trains on arrival, haptic feedback, follow-up with notifications and fixed some bugs.
- v1.0: First release, simplistic version
thanks a lot for sharing dude
I will add this soft to our french website
Thanks, I'm not a member of Actualité Mobile but i'll keep an eye on the thread
I will prorably never use it, but honestly, it's been so long since a useful application (it mean not manila or IT centric) has been relased, I could only congratulate you for your work (and in French en plus).

New version ! Soon to be released on marketplace
Bonjour,
Depuis quelques temps, Erreur serveur sur les gares grandes lignes parisiennes, pas de problemes pour les gares transilien.
Connection issue has been fixed using another webservice. I have also updated quite a lot of things compared to the version that was on XDA.
Hello!
Thanks for your amazing app!
Just one question: I can't find my train station in this program... its name is "Les Laumes - Alésia" and i can find it on the sncf website...How can i have it in your app?
Thanks!
SNCF does not provide real-time traffic for all the stations on the webservice I used. When I find a better service, I will update the list
For Transiliens stations, I may have missed a few since I listed them manually...
I am using it and it is great.
On Actualité Mobile forum, a guy posts some interesting features you can implement...
After a long break I found some time and fixed the service, everything works again.
Updated first post with new version.
Hi guys,
first of all apologies for advertising this little software I wrote on these pages. If it isnt allowed, mods please remove this.
I have recently published a little app I wrote. Name is TellyZap and you can find it on the market in two flavours: a Lite version and a Pro version.
heres the Lite version:
http://www.androlib.com/android.appl...lite-xtxq.aspx
and the Pro:
http://www.androlib.com/android.appl..._pro-xtxj.aspx
They both support 67 channels, european channels for the moment, however I thought that with satellite/digital becoming very popular very quick, some europeans could have a use for it too.
TellyZap allows you to view a full programme listing for the 7 days from the date of consultation. Has categories (soap, documentaries, movie etc..) and will give you a description of the program, time, channel etc.
the Lite version is limited to the day of consultation, and will not show the programme description, but only its title and time of airing.
The Pro version allows also to send a programme to one of your contacts in form of an SMS or Email. It also allows you to send your favourite programme to your calendar so you wont miss it !
I hope some of you will try it, and let me know your feedback. If you find any issues/bugs or have requests I will be glad to entertain them, just drop me an email at the address specified in the market, of pm me here.
And if you find it useful, I wont stand in the way of a little contribution for my work.
thanks for reading!

Thanks!

This sounds interesting. I will give it a try and report back.
sounds really interesting.
I've tried it on my i900. Here are the results
- connexion to internet for add and banner (ok, it doesn't disturb me). May be you should inform the users about that.
- I was blocked at the first screen, with the texte to donate. The continue button was grayed. I've waited for several minutes, clicked on the black screen... which will not disapear. Finaly I click on the link at the bottom of the banner (at the end the page of free-ocr.net) and then the continue button comes black and I can go on. So maybe you have to inform users what they have to do to be able to continue (wait or click,...).
- taking picture works well. Loading picture works as well. As I've found, the taken picture was saved on the software install directory, named img.jpg. And if I want to use another option I have to rechoose the jpg one... but if I will not have my PC connected I will not have found the place of the picture. May be you can inform, on the warning/info popup message that, if a img.jpg file exists, that this can be used, or where the picture can be found.
- question : does the img.jpg file be deleted ?
- with french texts on picture, the OCR gives nothing as hieroglyphs.
Else, a really great application which ask to be magnified !
keep up this good job
what is alternative that don't require data connection?
this one mention here need data connection.
thx you.

Should we trust this program?
And send scanned our private documents as exercise material for Mossad academy in Hertzlyia Pituach?
I was there (lived in Hertzlyia Pituach almost a year in 1987-1988)
However, due to nowadays international situation, I personally should not trust this program.
Why sending SOMEWHERE my private documents??
Want to make money of your program, make it save locally (on device!).

How am I supposed to install a cab file on android?
my thoughts
- should warn that it loads a website, the processing is not done on the device
- should warn that the images are transferred elsewhere and not only stored on the device
additionally I use a HD2 running duttys (v smooth and fast) yet with this running performance dropped sharply and noticeably
love the concept but not the implementation
Does it support other language?
Is it a multilingual program? I mean, does it support Asian language like Chinese?
It is not working on my blackstone (Rom com3 23152 as per my signature).
Maybe helpful
Sometimes the lower banner in the splash screen shows an server error.
Furthermore clicking on the Capture button it's raised an exception:
TExtRact.exe
NullReferenceException
in TExtRact.Main.captureBtn_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)

Wondering the same...
Hi everybody. This is my problem:
I’m trying to read some epub3 ebooks using the Astri-Bee reader on an Android phone (an LG L4II with Android 4.1.2). As soon as I open any of these books I get a message like this:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
If I turn off the data connection (the data connection thorough the mobile network), the error changes to:
Pagina web no disponible.
Es posible que la página web htp://0.0.0.0:49346/OEBPS/Text/1.xhtml se encuentre temporalmente fuera de servicio o se haya trasladado a otra dirección web de forma permanente.
(Sorry for the Spanish, I have this device in Spanish. Basically, it says a web page cannot be reached in the place addressed by the url htp://0.0.0.0:49346/OEBPS/Text/1.xhtml)
If I turn on the WiFi (keeping the data connection off) the problem solves magically and the epubs render fine.
If I turn off the WiFi (without turning de data on) the books still display fine.
If I turn back on the mobile data connection the rendering may be ok for a while, but, in the end will fail.
Some of these books I’m trying to read with Astri-Bee are examples created for the IDPF to help developers to test their readers (and designers to understand the epub standard). They are expected to have no design errors. In addition, I’ve tested them with the Kobo epub reader (in the same device) and (with Kobo) they display without any errors.
It seems to me that Astri-Bee is using some functions provided by Android (to extract the epubs' contents) and that they fail in certain conditions (when the mobile data connection is on, mainly). Unhappily, I have no idea on how the guts of Android work. It might be even something completely different, like a software conflict or so. This looks like a mystery to me.
Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.
Mmmmm… No answers yet. May be I didn't post this appropriately; may be nobody knows how to help me out of this thing. Let's try to move a little beyond and set down some plausible reading of these weird symptoms. They are gonna be plain speculation, but may be a speculation leading someone to have an idea on how to help.
An epub is a simple "linear" web site packed with some metadata (by mean of using zip compression). An epub reader basically is a web browser layout engine wrapped in a particular interface (with some specific-purpose functionalities). I haven't been able to find in a quick search any information about the guts of Astri-Bee, but I guess it's probably implemented by mean of reusing a named web browser layout engine. That seems to me the most sensible. Being so (and given the symptoms described, above, in the first post), Astri-Bee probably works this way:
- It recovers the metadata and builds the ebook internal structure, index an so on.
- It calls the web-browser-engine to lay out the first html inside the book. Being this engine for web browsing, its call probably requires as parameters an IP address, a port and a path. Astri-Bee passes them all.
- In order to make the book html reachable to the engine, Astri-Bee serves it in the localhost 49346 port (being ../OEBPS/Text/1.xhtml a normal path inside an epub).
- Finally Astre-Bee shows the engine-laid-out html being the first element of the book.
I can add here (to the symptoms described in my first post) that, when the data connection has just been turned off, and Astree-Bee is showing the web-page-cannot-be-reached message, the Astri-Bee page up/down functionality perfectly works and makes it browse the same message for further pages:
A web page cannot be reached in the place addressed by the url htp://0.0.0.0:49346/OEBPS/Text/2.xhtml.
This seems a hint leading to think Astri-Bee is properly unzipping and decoding the metadata, and only fails at browsing the htmls contained inside the book (when the data is on). Which reinforces the idea under the working-steps described above.
As already stated, all this may look like plain speculation. In fact, it is. But seems sensible and looks by now like the most probable explanation to me. It means Astri-Bee is probably using functions provided by Android to manage the network connections it needs for (self) serving and reading the epub htmls. So a crash in the way Android manages or provides these services when de data connection is on will lead to such symptoms as the described above in the first post.
I don't know how to test this thesis I've set up in this seccond post, and what’s more important, I can't even hint how to solve the rendering problem I described in my first post. I'm qualified but not at all an operative system authority and Android is way far from my expertise. Still need some help.
Anyone out there with some ideas?
Come on. I can't believe there's no one in this forum with a useful idea. Not one asking to make sure the software versions are the last ones. I've already checked that. One, I mean, that brings light to this problem. That helps me out of it.
I'm willing to check and try any sensible suggestions. :fingers-crossed: One of those ebooks is a demo of a functionally advanced epub and Astri-Bee has proved itself as the best epub renderer out there. It would be great to have that pair working in this phone of mine, as I already have them working all right in my tablet. :cyclops:
I look forward to your comments, guys, if there're any.
