If you look carefully inside the Galaxy S2 headphone jack you may spot part of the motherboard. I don't know if this is normal or a manufacturing defect. I've compared a couple of other S2's, but it is too hard to tell due to the accumulation of dust particles. Please shed some light on this for me. Thank you.
Nope, can't see any part of motherboard through headphones' jack, just metal.
Sent from out of space using Thuraya 2 satellite!
Hold the phone with the screen away from you (facing forward); I see part of the motherboard towards upper 1/3 of inside the microphone jack, small portion of the board is visible. My motherboard is of blue color btw, the green is darker and may be harder to distinguish.
I confirm i can see part of the motherboard.. It's at the back of the screen..

I'm guessing this is normal?
Where is your phone manufactured, and what is the color of the board?
Mine is blue, I guess that's why its too easy to tell, lol.
I wonder what happens if water gets in there

I will look at the box tomorrow.. Mine is green.. That's the color of the motherboard.. Why is yours blue?
Edit: with this angle and the lighting (i used a flashlight from my sga) and it looks some sort of blue but it's actually green

mine is blue, but it has a serious problem with the display, blotches and some uniformity issue. made in korea, go figure, lol. you can check your country of manufacture under the battery on the back of the phone. if there is one thing I can conclude based on the last 3 other replacements I got, I can confirm that the chinese production is better. fewer users are reporting problems with the chinese batches.
Blue is made in korea, green is made in china.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
The headphone plastick said manufactured in china and the guude is printed in china.. Didn't looked at the battery part yet.. There imperfections in the screen when looking at a dark screen in the dark.. I guess that is normal..

Not necessarily, I saw a blue (made in china) in the may batch and made in korea (green) in that same time. Off-topic, Let me assure you, the china batch has fewer problems than korea and china has latest camera firmware (SCEF09) whereas very few korea stocks are available that has the older firmware (OMEF01).
On-topic, can you see part of your motherboard in the headphone jack?
is seeing the motherboard within the headphone jack a normal thing?
my usb cable is made in Indonesia, I have a chinese one as well, oddly, there are some quality control issues.
the chinese build is more resilient than koreas
the display is worse on korea (all based on my experience in the past few replacements I came across)

i'm really keen to know whats up with the production line of some samoled displays
Here is a view of the inside of my phone.
The microphone jack is the blueish rectangle sligthly up to the left of the camera lens.
So the blue parts ppl see is probably the the jack itself as it seems to be sealed from the rest of the mainboard, probably to protect the inside from dirt and such.
Your motherboard is blue.
If it was true green, it would be darker (like Forest Green color as per my observations with my first replacement).
I do see the difference though from top to bottom, and the internals are pretty interesting. Correct me if I'm wrong, is the camera lens exposed? I thought the glass cover remains there during disassembly.
Mine is blue. I attached a pic of it.

I have looked more closely to my parts phone that is taken apart.
The thing you see in the picture in post #15 is actually a flat cable that connects to a microphone? that is just beside the jack, there is a small hole in the casing next to the jack.
And that flat cable is lead behind the 3,5mm jack and then to the speaker.

My screen has 2 problems:
I have about 7 dead pixels spread over the upper half of my screen. Very annoying, 2 are next to each other and thus extra visible. Worst to look at when I am viewing a dark coloured area.
It looks like the status-bar has burnt in. http://imgur.com/a/YM8xH#0
I'll try to make some decent pictures with a DSLR next weekend.
Does anybody else experience similar issues with the screen?
I'm afraid I have to relock the bootloader and flash a fresh install if SE advices me to hand it in, and I will also be without a phone for weeks.

Especially the grey (second) and the grayscales screen unhide a lot. But how can you make screenshots of your faulty screen? So in your case it's the software?

hi, in my opinion, it is not a software issue, this is in hardware, it cause the alignment of the back-light to the lcd screen. some of the lcd have a thin fiber optic film.... if this on is not aligned or not totaly intact with the lcd screen there is a possibility to have a dark color....
this only on my own opinion.... thanks!
can you try another color, like red, green, and blue?

Doesn't look like dead pixels - they are nothing like that. It looks like water damage. I've had to replace several BB and Nokia LCDs due to that (all had been "damp" at one time other). One friend had used a solvent aerosol cleaner on the phone and the LCD went "stained". Replacement cured it.

But I didn't drop it in water. Could this be caused by damp air only? Also, would this be covered by the warranty? Can I 'repair' this myself by leaving my phone next to a hair dryer or in a box with silica gel?
Once this has happened, it is not reversible. Sorry.

I had Sprint sent me a replacement EVO 4G LTE because I had a piece of dust trapped in between the gorilla glass and the LCD (visible in the first picture below) and I had really bad light leakage from the home button (second picture below). However, when I was taking pictures side-by-side to show how much better the light leakage was on the new phone, I noticed that the screen on the new phone has a much yellower tint than the old phone (third picture below). The new phone is on the left, the old one is on the right. Both phones are showing the same image at exactly the same brightness levels.

Another interesting note is that the box from my first phone was sealed with a 2" diameter clear sticker, while the second was sealed with a 0.75" diameter sticker (picture below). Both say "Made in Taiwan", but I'm thinking they must've been from different facilities.
There are three takeaways from this:
* There are at least two production lines producing the phones
* There are some yellower screens (perhaps a different supplier or assembly line)
* Not all phones have the home button light leakage problem, so you DON'T have to live with it.
That said, I'd rather have the yellow screen than the light leakage.
Wow those are some major differences. I never had light leakage with my original Evo or my 3D but I do have some minor leakage with my LTE. It's only noticeable on black screens and isn't as bad as the one in your picture but still kinda sucks.
Edit: I just checked my box...it was a bigger sticker one. It seems like the one with problems for you also had the big sticker. Perhaps we can get more people to give a larger sample size.
When I 1st got my EVO LTE I thought the Screen was yellow as well, but then I remembered the iPhone having the same problem and it was a issue dealing with Glue not yet dry. I waited a couple of days and I have a perfect color screen. I am not saying this is the case with yours just letting you know my experience.

I have none of those issues and have the little sticker seal... hmmm I have Hardware Version 003
Ironically my HTC EVO 4G had version 003 as well! lucky # 3
the first LTE that I had had a loose vibrating motor (you could hear it rattle if you shook it) and a faulty camera button, it didn't have dual action like it was suppose to - this one had a big sticker on it. I had BB replace it after they got another shipment after launch day, very minor light leakage but no major problems - this one had a small sticker
coincidence?
I think not
I have 2 and they both have big stickers and they're perfectly fine

Both phones are hardware rev 3. I changed the yellow screen picture in my post above to one that better shows the tint. Hopefully it will go away as the glue dries -- this post about the One X seems to indicate that it will: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649434
EDIT: This thread seems to make a lot of sense -- either the screens will have light bleed, or they use more glue which will be yellow until it cures: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26017414&postcount=19

For the sake of adding a larger sample:
Small sticker, no yellow tint and no light leakage. I do have a stuck pixel and a dead one but only because I looked for them they are not noticeable otherwise and seeing as there could be bigger problems I won't exchange mine =p phone is flawless otherwise.
Big sicker, hardware v3 here and so far no issues.

I actually had a really bad yellow screen and now I am starting to think it was the glue. The whites have gotten whiter over time.
I've owned my phone for a week and half now. I'm feeling much better about the screen now. I was using a screen adjuster to add more blue, but I've even stopped using that.
Hope that makes you feel better.
Another interesting data point: The old phone's box had a smaller cutout for the power button two squares of silicone glued to the cardboard on either side. The new phone has a larger cutout with no silicone.
My guess is that the original boxes had trouble with the power button getting pressed, so the silicone pads were a temporary solution until they could make revised boxes.
Hardware 0003, big sticker box with padding for the power button.
No conceivable problems with this phone. Screen might have been a little yellow at first, but this thing is flawless as I'm using it right now. No dead pixels, no nasty yellow screen, no separation or light bleed. The only problem I have is that I have to set my camera saturation to -1 or everybody's skin is pink, and that's already been done.
This phone is a BEAST.

The thing I really loved about the S2 was the textured back cover on the black model. Practically impossible to scratch, as opposed to the white which scratched easily and also had cracking on the paintwork as shown in your pics.
Seems like the S3's are going to suffer the same fate. Like I mentioned earlier, I saw this quite alot on the white S2. Good thing replacements are cheap.

Looks like chemical cracking
"Tried bending my cover but I can't get the same "cracks"."
If you want to have the same cracks in the cover bending won't help. There is no varnish on the backcover of the Polycarmonate backcover.
I I yould see those cracks unter the microskope I would be sure, but on the first view it looks like chemical induced stress cracking.
It would be interesting what type of cleaners have been used on that back cover. Or did he try to clean the backcover in the dishwascher?
Some alcohols (like isopropanol as used in glass cleaners) and perfume oils even some spices damage polycarbonate.
You can google that (Polycarbonate and stress cracking). That is fairly common with that material.
If you want to be sure not to get such cracks keep to a moist microfiber cloth for cleaning
Looks like someone stepped on the back cover or whole phone, what gave it away is the A in Samsung almost completely missing, so the owner did something to it
I have the same straches like that on new out of the box white one model. If someone want i will putt pictures to see

Has anyone noticed that the bottom edge of your DNA has a slight 1-2mm shadowy area where the backlight is dim as well as random areas along the sides (this is not the capacitive light bleed which most units all have, which I don't consider a big deal)? I've had numerous replacements and all have exhibited these issues including a few Verizon store units. I find it surprising that this hasn't been reported upon in any reviews. It's fairly annoying on white and light colors, the majority of what I use the phone for (side-by-side with my 4s, the 4s has even lighting to the edges). I also checked out the HTC One in an AT&T store and couldn't see these issues, so it looks DNA rather than HTC specific.
It's a bit hard to make out from pictures, but it is visible.

Yeah, man; it's a curse. I'm one of those who notices the digitizer when the display is on as well.
Because of those lights, I think the top 1/8 of the screen is a bit brighter than the rest as well, especial if you're viewing in landscape. If you do the same on the bottom, you see nothing, like they didn't put any LEDs there. The inconsistency I've noticed along the sides isn't the exact same between any two phones (I've had a number of replacements mostly due to other issues). I bothers me pretty much any time I use the browser, maps app, texting, or anything like that, but I think i'm slowly getting used to it. From what I can tell of hands on time with the HTC One, it looks like they've mostly avoided this in that model, if not because of a larger bezel to hide the diffuser/LEDs in.
Tried searching for this defect in this forum but couldn't find similar posts. Basically my ENTIRE screen is full of small dots which have a diagonal pattern. It looks like the picture below but the dots are smaller and they are "rainbow colored". The color is similar to having a droplet of water on the screen.
Does anyone have the same problem? I know the tint problem is pretty common (since my first unit had major problems with colors) and quite a number of people commented on having the bubble problem (which this second unit also has) but what about this "dots" defect?

Seriously, Samsung's quality control just had to ruin things. I was so excited to be getting my very first Samsung and Android phone but having to put up with this after having to put up with the customer service in my country just ruins everything. Now I have to go straight to Samsung since carriers in my country only allow 1 replacement.
Do you only see it in direct sun light while tilting the phone in 45 deg angle? Well if yes then it's the digitizer and this is completely normal.

Nope, I see it looking straight at the screen. The brighter and whiter the screen the more visible it is. It's almost like it's reflecting light (just like how having a droplet of water on your screen).

Nah, did it through Photoshop. Tried getting it using my iPad's cam but couldn't capture it in the photo. The dots are way smaller than those in the pictures and there are more spaces diagonally but it spans the whole screen. Also, there are criss-cross patterns but only on the curved edges.
Maybe the glue of the lcd or the gorilla glass? Something liquid-like since it reflects light (brighter = more prominent). My first unit didn't have the same problem
It's the pointing marks built into screen to register where you press.

Hmm, but I shouldn't be able to notice it 2 feet away right? I carefully examined my first unit which had defective buttons and horrible tints but I never saw these dots.
Do you have a screen protector applied to the screen?

Nope, no screen protector. This is my 2nd unit so I'm only planning to put a screen protector when I get one with no defects / problems.
I have the exact same problem
I just got my Galaxy S 6 Edge gold from repair from Samsung for Microphone defect and while I was checking the phone to make sure everything is fixed, I noticed the same problem as yours.
Are the dots considered as defects? or it's just pointer marks which every S6 phones have?
and what did you do about the defect?

It's a defect. It's the pattern of the Gorilla Glass but it shouldn't be visible when the screen is turned on. My first unit didn't have it but had other defects.

Hey ng4g3d,
so were you able to get it replaced for that reason? if you did, did they replace the whole front glass?
thanks

Haven't had it replaced yet. I'm waiting for the newer batches to come out so I'll have it replaced come July. I'm pretty sure it'll be replaced though since my phone has tons of bubbles in addition to the Gorilla Glass pattern being visible and slight pink / green tints scattered around (which I believe got burnt in since the tints weren't noticeable during the first week).
Even tho it sounds like a defect, it still is a pretty pattern? always looks on the bright side!
I have the same problem with my verizon s6 edge I had three replacement but they all have the same problem on the screen with small dots colored pattern lines, I only start to notice
When I crank my brightness to the high and also when the screen is off most people won't find this issue in less they start to look closely to the screen , i think most s6 are affected but most people won't notice looking from 1 to 2 feet away , I try to show some friends only few noticed the issue, but if you pixl head like me it's really noticeable on high brightness
Sorry I know this is an old post, but I have the same problem on my S6 Edge. Are there any soloutions? Should I send my phone to get repaired, or ask for a replacement?
