Here is SDK http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
But you are going to have to know how to run linux code. Try the library for that.

check this out: http://www.getjar.com/
GetJar is a bad example (I am getting old I guess) - they seem have all kinds of apps now not like in the old days - java only (hence the 'jar' thing in their name). They still do have java apps as well though.
Anyways - there are many java apps (similarly to the apk files) which can do all kinds of things, pretty much everything.
but website with java still i can't view them.....
1. Did anyone try to install java app??
2. Did it work on the touch screen?
3. can we customize the buttons to work with the app?
thanks.
would it be possible to do the same but for flash apps and games?
@medo
Java app installed and working.
Touch screen working.
Can not customize the button. But button can be pressed using touch screen.

force closes on my x10. what do you think would be the reason?
I think you didn't put the lib in correct place.
So put it on /system/lib/
And then try.

sorry to revive a dead thread, but I am wondering:
what phone can I pick as an equivalent to the jbed engine on sites like getjar to see only the compatible jar files?
what does this do?
@svprm - I've two questions mate.
1: What is this for as Java runs native on Android devices... I'm not being sarcastic, it is a genuine question.
2: What do you think about the repeated remarks made yesterday about your JBed library enabling J.Anderson to gain permanent root - or as he put it - crack the bootloader?
Best Regards,
MH

Hi,
If I have a mobile device (bare or with some other OS ) and a built android source, is it possible to install the Android OS on that device?
Any pointers?
Thanks,
Aseem Chiplonkar
Difficult question. You could try but remember you need to build drivers.
I take it you want to go for an AOSP build?

There's an Android for x86 project out.
http://www.android-x86.org/
however, short of using something like cyanogenmod, there's no quick way to say how to install the android source on a mobile ARM based device easily.
Ok guys for the note, how do I find the latest odin version to use to root? And where did you guys find the best place for the drivers?
I goggled it.
http://www.filecrop.com/Odin-ANDROID.html
To my knowledge this is the current way to root with provided tools and drivers.

I missed those links in that thread as I'm going to try the other root method, thanks.
Can anyone point me in the right direction with rooting my galaxy ace.
I'm using Ubuntu and have the stock 2.2.1 firmware on my phone.
Have tried to run superoneclick with mono but cant even get that running.
Thanks in advance
Peter
Of course. Have a look at the dev section and specifically the rooting/flashing/modding STICKY post at the top!
have now got superoneclick running with mono but it will not show my phone. any help?

thanks, this is were i first looked. it all seems to be for windows. will look again
So I tried and tried and tried again to get superoneclick to recognise my phone last night and failed. It hung after starting ADB connection. Would not continue no matter what I tried. Anyone encountered this problem or even tried superoneclick using Ubuntu?
I have looked for a script to run to achieve root but can't find one, as I can use ADB manually. Very frustrating.
Can't even update firmware with Sammy software cos it needs windows

odin is for windows only i believe, which i dont have, dagnabbit!
i am looking at heimdall although it is not supported and nobody seems to have tried it. atleast not from my quick searching. ill continue to look.
so if i cant root 2.2.1 with linux then i should look at updating firmware to 2.3 and then i can root with standard recovery and a zip update?
