Can't download anything onto Touchpad (CM7 Alpha 2.1) - TouchPad General

Absolutely loving CM7 on my Touchpad, but this is kind of an annoying issue to deal with. Files just will not save at all, not sure what the issue is. Any ideas or similar experiences?

did you run fix permissions from recovery? I did and it borked downloads too. anyway i just figured out how to fix it yesterday. Go to this link and scroll to the bottom for a fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322127

I did not, would that be the logical next step? How would I go about doing that?
And as far as the link thanks! I tried it last night on 2 diff computers and got java errors when opening "novaterm" batch file.

Update Java and reboot the pc ?????

Done and done. I promise I usually know what I'm doing with this stuff. This is just brand new territory for me. Not used to feeling this novice-y. Blah.

Repairing permissions now, will report back with results!

Repairing permissions was the move. Thanks y'all. Hugs and Touchpads for all.

I'm on a Win7 PC, and I guess I'm having the same issues as you LTV. I've uninstalled/reinstalled Java, rebooted, etc. Only thing is, I don't know what you mean by "repairing permissions". AFAIK, that's a Mac thing. Think you could help a PC user out?
Update: Make sure you have the right Java installed. If running a 64-bit build, make sure you get the 64-bit version of Java (default is 32-bit). Then click the link in post 2, and voila!

[ONLINE ROM LIBRARY, GUI & Android TOOL for HTC PHONES]

We've updated a bit....
Download Link: [Here]
We now have a complimentary app on the app store for this A4D App.
What is A4D?
The goal of A4D is for us to move beyond just N1 make it an all in one flashing/upgrading/android utility. We just added a ROM library with MD5s. We are not going to be hosting the actual ROMs by themselves so if you report a dead link, they will be taken down (after a number of reports). You can also add your own ROMs as well into the library.
The ROM library will be supported by both Android and Desktop App. We are rewriting the Desktop apps so that we can do all 3 platforms in one, Linux, Windows, and Mac. You'll love the layout of the app. That's all we can say for now.
Oh one more thing. The android app won the best android app award at the Mobile in the Middle Hack-a-thon over the weekend in Chicago (on 3/6/2010).
I would like you guys to try out the app and tell us feedbacks. Also feel free to add your own ROMs to the Database and tell us how we can make the DB better. There a number of features we are trying to add as well. But with our full time jobs... things are going a little slower than we wanted. Sorry.
Requirements to run the app on Android: Amon_RA's recovery. That's what we tested it with.
Reserved
Reserved for Future Updates / Changelog
Can't wait to see if this is fool proof.
Add md5 check. Make it in this way: user have to enter/copy-past md5 hashsum from forum/site. Program calculates md5 of image and says image is good or bad. Also you can disable flashing with out this check. ;-)
good idea. Will do that. That will help with flashing screwed up downloads.
Hi
Thank you for sharing the application.
Does it flash the radio too? I mean CyanogenMod has two files a radio ROM and a CyanogenMod ROM. Does it flash both of them to the phone?
Thanks.
Radio flash is in there we took it out. May do so in the next release but radio flashing is dangerous (can brick phones) so...
Hey Lwin,
Nice concept man, this is gonna prove very handy for many peeps.
You've come up trumps again
So, this is a desktop application?
Does it flash ROM's from your desktop or copy them over and just run the commands on the phone for you?
I ask, as I'm having some problems flashing now, based round a slightly faulty Micro SD card. Does it store backups on the phone or on your desktop PC?
This program is written so you don't have to do command line commands. Everything else remains the same. If you are doing a Nand backup, it goes where it used to go.
I would recommend fixing your "slightly faulty Micro SD card" by getting a new card.
nice app for those that aren't familiar with cmd or jus pure...lazy lol
maybe the screens should be bigger as quite hard to see clearly whats available.
Pure Genius...

Here is the GUI tool for unlocking, updating, restoring, flashing of the N1 (and in theory should work on all HTC androids).
Try it out and see if it is useful. The tool is made to help for people with very basic skills since the tool at this stage is a wrapper for the shell commands at this point.
Again, as usual, we take no responsibility for loss of sleep, loss of phone or screw ups on our side (due to app) or on your side (due to lack of ability to follow instructions).
I wish to make it more simple. We welcome feed backs.

There will be a mac port sometime this week. I can most likely port to linux too but if you know linux and if you have to use wrapper, you have an issue
install issues
I tried to install it but got a system update required....
extracted the sdk to the folder C:\android-sdk-windows
extracted android4dummies and clicked setup
I get a pop up with the following:
unable to install or run the application. the application requires that system assembly system.data, entry version 3.5.0.0 be installed in the global system cache.....???
What do I do now?
Sounds like the app uses .NET framework 3.5.
So goto microsoft website an get 3.5 .Net Framework.

You do need .Net 3.5. It should have asked you, if not installed that as a prerequisite.
I went to MS and downloaded the .net 3.5 installed it (apparently it was already on my pc, so instead of installing I tried to repair it. no success....

Can you send us a screenshot.
Do not unzip into C:\android-sdk-windows. App will install SDK or search for the SDK there.
Unzip on your desktop or temp and install from there.
just to be clear, I unzipped adroid sdk and placed in the mentioned location. the android4dummies is extracted on the desktop and executed from there..
so should I remove the SDK and retry?

[Q] Setting up the Android SDK in Ubuntu...

Ok, I'm sure this is been asked before and I'm sure there's references somewhere...I've looked for a couple of days and found what should be answers, but nothing is working like the instructions I've seen...
Here's the simple question; How do I get the Android SDK and Java JDK setup in Ubuntu? I've tried the sudo commands to get the JDK to install, not working for me (as Ubuntu tells me it can't find the files I'm looking for). I've tried moving the SDK into the Root Folder (in the File System area itself), don't have permissions even though I'm logged in as the administrator. I've tried getting the SDK Manager to run through Terminal (home/android-sdk-xxxxx_xxxx/tools/android), can't find the file in terminal, but it's there in the file system exactly where I'm pointing it to.
I'm very new to Linux, but if I'm going to do things that I want to do, I'm going to have to learn. For the most part, I'm prepared to read whatever I need to in order to learn from this, but I also know when I need to ask for some help here. It seems like every command shown to get this started is just not working in the partition I have setup for this. If anyone can help get me started, I'm sure I can pick the rest up along the way!
Thanks in advance!

I think you could possibly use part of the EasyDev-v6 script in the Development and just cut out everything after installing prerequesites. It probably installs the JDK and the SDK among everything else, and it probably wouldn't hurt with the other things that installs, too. Just cut out everything after the prerequesites (it's just a regular text file but it'll be easier to edit in Ubuntu with OpenOffice).
Also check out http://maketecheasier.com/install-android-sdk-in-ubuntu-karmic/2010/01/11. As far as I know it worked when I tried it.

How to install Cinema plugin on Uruk1.0?

I can't get this stupid thing to install. First off the exe files does not work. No biggy, I'll just drop in the aos file to the root dir..... nope. I also tried going to through Recovery-Update Firmware but it says "update failed".
What am I missing here?
ok figured it out. i had to install it through the normal android boot, not dev. soon as i booted it it found the aos file and installed. checked video and it played great. then booted into uruk and the plugin was still working.
the only problem is the audio is not sycing up perfectly. can this be fixed?
I've a different issue, on normal android work fine but on uruk the software can't find the plugin ad say me to buy it ...

Is your Uruk installed on the SD or internal?
Hi, I have the same issue. Uruk is install on internal.
Thx
Not sure what made it work on mine. It was 3am, I had been trying to get it to work for 5 hours and out of frustration I just started dropping the file into a number of different folders ah-la shotgun method and something stuck. Once it was installed in the non-dev OS it worked fine. I'll check where I put it at tonight and post the locations I put the file in. Maybe someone smarter can point out which location would have caused it to work and write a little How-to.
ok so here is where I dropped the cinema_XXXXXX_plugin.aos file.....
/
/data
/data/urukUpdate
/mnt/data/sdcard
/mnt/sdcard/sdcard
/root
1. Booted in Android (not Dev boot)
2. Android saw the .aos file and installed it
3. Checked a video that was giving me plugin error and it played. NICE!
4. Rebooted in to Uruk1.0 (dev boot)
3. Check same video and a couple more and they all played. No "buy our plugin" pop up.
Let me know if this works for anyone else.
/mnt/sdcard is the right position.

Cant keep webtop working stable

Below,I will list the steps I do to setup my webtop,I am using webtop2sd on a 32GB PNY Class 10 card, and used a 2GB Transcend (not sure on class,im sure its old) card to test with, same results with both pretty much,so I think something im doing is causing it to stop working.
What happends when it stops, is it just wont come up anymore. When I plug the phone into my lapdock, I either get a bluebox with an HDMI not found error (I'm assuming from the dock itself), or the red moto logo that just moves around. I would try resetting the phone, and reinstalling the executable through the webtop2sd app, and it still wont launch. This has happened about 5 times so far, I would get it setup how I would want it to be,then it stops working.
So here is what I would do (there is a phone reboot between each step pretty much)
1. Use my PC to partiton the SD card, ~22 GB FAT32 followed by an ~8GB ext3
2. Use webtop2sd to create the webtop, default settings, aside from the missing dock fix, which I only used 2-3 out of the 5 times I ran it
3. Once I am in the new webtop, I would install terminal and synaptic, then reboot.
4. Then I would run the webtop scripts, version 1.4, hitting yes to everything, then a reboot
5. I would check to see if synaptic is installed, the last time i did this, I had to use aptitude to install it.
6. Once I got synaptic up,I would use it to install the xfce4 package. Just about everytime I would go to install it,I would get an error on the "tzdata" package, the only way I could get past it,would be to uninstall tzdata, then most of the time, whatever I would go to install would reinstall it anyway. This does concern me, because when I remove tzdata, it appears to be tied to a critical package, which may be the source of my problem, but I am not sure.
7. Once I would get xfce4 installed,I would add xfdesktop and xfce-panel to the startup list (those may not be the exact package names, there is another thread I reference for that, can't remember atm, nor can I remember the exact name of that startup file, but its on this forum somewhere). I would also comment out the awmdock one and the webtop desktop one as well.
8. I would reboot, and it would actually boot up xfce4 just fine, the only gripe I have,is that I would usually get an error on the trash service needing thunar, when it is already installed. The one time,I was able to install open office, and test out some youtube videos.
9. At about this time, I would reboot my phone to see if it still works, then I would get the "bouncing moto logo of death" on my lapdock screen, and would have to start over.
One other unrelated note, about every other time I would reboot my phone, it would come up saying SIM card not installed, so I would reboot it again to fix the problem. So there were normally 2 reboots when a reboot is required.
So,I guess I would ask a few direct questions about my problem
1. Has anyone else had a problem with the tzdata package? Is there a way around it without uninstalling it?
2. Could the full xfce4 package be breaking the webtop? Do I only need certain packages out of it?
3. Even though I tested this on 2 different SD cards, could my problem be that the files are just getting corrupted on the card? Its pretty consistant though, I canpretty much say "Look,my awesome webtop is now setup how I want it to be, now watch me reboot my phone to see it not work anymore" everytime I go to set it up.
Info on my phone:
Stock firmware, unlocked bootloader, cwm installed (I thought I needed it,but not for webtop2sd) and rooted running latest webtop2sd. I havent messed with the stock webtop on the phone itself, i rather not since I like having it as a backup.
Btw, I am a bit of a linux n00b, I've pretty much just been reading what other people have been doing. Any help would be appreciated, thanx
You sure like to mod the webtop. Lol jk.
I have no issues and I have webtop with the Lapdock with the Ninja ROM. My phone is bootloader unlocked and rooted. I personally think you modded too much if that's possible. If I were you, I would start over and try webtop with stock firmware or a ROM with a fresh sd card. That way you can know if your phone has a hardware issue or if you modded too much. Hope this helps.

I can assure you that your phone is more modded than mine is, since im running stock firmware. What I'm doing is really not that much modding, I'm just trying to get a better interface running on the webtop, which people have posted saying they have the same one working on theirs. Its also not that I can't get it working, its really not hard, just time consuming, I just need to know why it keeps breaking on phone reboots...

Have you tried reflashing the phone yet with new firmwares or ROMS?
Sent from my Atrix XDA Premium App
why would I do that when the issue has something to do with the files on the SD card?
webtop2sd copies the webtop files from the phone, to the SD card,so the files on the phone are basically out of the equation at that point. So its not a problem with android, but with the other linux files from webtop on the SD card
Oh ok. Well have you tried an all new sd card yet?

I believe tzdata has been my problem for he past like 3 days I've been messing with this
It has been running great for the past day. XFCE4 is a large improvement over the standard webtop.
Of course, I ran into another snag, I need to access windows network shares, and Samba doesn't seem to be functioning, specifically, the samba-common package wont install correctly.
This user was able to fix it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19132707&postcount=19
But I have no idea how to fix the read/sym links. Can any linux gurus here explain how that is fixed? Thanx guys!

Yeah his post was kind of light on the details.
What it looks like is that when the /var/lib/dpkg/samba-common.postinst script is run by dpkg --configure -a it calls a program named ucf that in turn wants to run the symbolic link of "readlink" located in /usr/bin.
This is where i got stuck. I am by no means a linux guru.
I tried deleting the symlink to force ucf to use the "readlink" in the path, tried setting the symlink to point to the "readlink" located in /system/bin and in /system/xbin, and set the symlink to the busybox in /system/bin and to the custom busybox webtop2sd uses in /system/etc/webtop2sd but it did not help.
The output of dpkg changed slightly depending on which "readlink" ucf used but still the same error, "readlink: invalid option", and no samba-common.
Btw my busybox is 1.19.3
2.3.5 webtop on sdcard with fixed dependencies
A little help would be appreciated.
I was told on IRC that the actual problem is that the stock kernel does not include CIPs support, which is what is required for connectivity
but I still dont like the fact that samba package is still broken...
I'm using faux123's 0.2.3 kernel though, which might have CIPs support. Its hard to tell from the changelog and features listed in his kernel thread. Btw the 0.2.3 kernel fixes the broken top panel.

ive searched to no prevail. id like to start developing apps but am having issues getting the environment set up. i have the jdk properly installed.
issue 1 (main \ major ):
ive installed the android sdk from multiple sources, but when i try to start sdk tools, the command prompt flashes/ opens briefly and i get this message:
"Failed to execute tools\android.bat:
The system cannot find the file specified."
do i need to change a PATH variable or something...
issue 2:
i cannot get eclipse to run. when i try to open the exe file ( because there is no short cut icon...?) it gives a message about not finding a companion library... ive try to change the properties in the file that is supposed to fix it, but it was already set the way its supposed to be. this is not major as i can use a different IDE.
so im completely lost as to th sdk tool. any help would be appreciated!

Actually, you don't need to configure environment variables. You only need to install Java SE, and Eclipse and Android SDK should work fine.

Word of caution
I hate to discourage anyone from following their hearts desires especially when it comes to software development. But I wanted to share some advice with you coming from an experienced software engineer. I've been developing software for over 15 years. My experience comes mainly from developing Windows desktop applications in C/C++. I've also been developing software using Java for several years so I'm by no means new to Java technology or development tools.
I've only recently started to develop for the Android platform. It didn't take me long to get started (i.e. get the development environment setup and start developing using the AVD manager) but as I dig into it I'm finding that the Android platform has become very much like developing Windows applications which is interesting to find because I really haven't done a lot of user interface development using Java. In the past my Java development projects have always been more back end server integration related to App Servers and database integration (i.e. Apache/Tomcat, JSP, Oracle, etc.).
I have seen user interface development libraries in Java such as Swing in the past but haven't had a real need for them. So to tell you the truth I can't say how much better or worse the Android SDK user interface libraries are than the traditional JDK 1.4 libraries.
All of this is to say that when I say this you know it's coming from someone that isn't just learning how to program. My advice to you is that if you haven't done much Java development in the past that Android development is not the place to start. You might want to start with the basics first like just setting up a simple Java program and learning the technology first before you jump head long into something.
I've done that more times than I can count in my long career and I can tell you from experience it's the surest way to fail before you get started.
thanks but...

First. DELETE EVERYTHING FROM DOWNLOADED FILES TO EXTRACTED FILE GET RID OF ALL OF IT then clear trash can.
THen ensure the JDK is successfully installed by opening command prompt and typing "java -version" you should have build 1.7 or higher. If not, you may download it here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-7u4-downloads-1591156.html
Download this http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html and pick the one that has "Recommended" next to it.
after you have that downloaded. FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW TO A T! NO SHORTCUTS WHAT SO EVER!
Then once everything is downloaded. simply FOLLOW ME again TO A T! and if you follow that you should get everything working. And seriously, FOLLOW IT TO A T! do not take shortcuts do not try to do more than one thing at a time just take it step by step. I had no problems getting it up and running by following that last link.
Hope that helps and BE PATIENT you will get to play around soon enough
