Wow, Bravia Engine actually works :P - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Now that we have built-in screenshots... I went on to test the Bravia Engine properly. Two great examples of how much better some random images I found on the web:
Open each image in a new tab and then switch between the tabs to really see the difference. http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/2734/symbolic.html:
with Bravia Engine <-> without Bravia Engine

Another example:
With Bravia Engine (above), without Bravia Engine (below)
As you can see the colours and contrast are just much better. Bravia Engine ONLY works on images and videos in the default Gallery app!

And if you own Sony BRAVIA HD TV set (as myself), watching HD movies from your phone can be really good eXperience

its really nice
what about camera ? did Bravia Engine make better picture or video ?

Very nice

Impressive. Bravia adds a lot of contrast, it removes the pale look.
Just bought a HDMI cable (not included ) and I also own a Bravia HDTV (not 3D unfortunately). I'm curious on how things look when you connect the phone to the TV. The output quality is 720p isn't it? My TV is 1080p...

Bravia Engine doesn't change any file at all, never. The ONLY thing it does is change the way Gallery DISPLAYS an image. It doesn't change the image, doesn't save a changed image, doesn't send a different image, nothing. It only changes the way it's shown on the display of your device.

The good news is the BRAVIA Engine does everything that Sony Ericsson promises it will do. It enhances sharpness, increases contrast and saturation and tries to tackle digital noise. Of course, that only works with photos and videos, so you shouldn’t be looking for its effect elsewhere.
First learn what is BRAVIA ENGINE than comment
and view this thread what it change

[APP] Professional camera app

I found this professional camera app, which has so much options. You can manually set the exposure time, up to 60 seconds! Also ISO is adjustable.
Downside is that it doesn't support our physical camera key. I tested this app on ICS.

i used to use this app, can not change ISO -,-
It'll be great if we can change ISO on Neo/V. I believe high ISO setting is one downside of this camera.
the stock camera is the best camera, do you think so ?
Can you post some pictures taken by this camera with the vatious settings so we can see the quality and versatility of the camera?
Thanks

I wasn't able to spot any differences myself, only that when I changed the ISO settings and shutter time this app could picture shapes in a dark room, where the stock app just makes an all black picture. But if you want to try it yourself, you know how it works on Android...

OMG i started to think i am just plain stupid but now I see you can't change iso too, then this app sucks, nothing much without iso.
Neo V also, other then that its great app...

If you turn flash on in the stock app you can get a near perfect pic in the dark on the stock app. The flash on the Neo is seriously powerful.
really good app...thnx

Android App similar to 'Simply HDR' on iOS?

Was wondering if there is any app similar to SIMPLY HDR available for iOS. I kinda like the effect it gives the photos and it's widely used on Instagram too. The closest I've come to this is using Picsart with the 'FATTAL' filter, but that takes a while to process. Any alternatives?

I've tried those apps but they don't give a similar effect as Simply HDR. The effect is less pronounced. And you're right, I'm looking for a faux HDR not a real HDR app. If you open up the link I posted you will see more of the effect I'm talking about.

Has anybody tested the mod which restores DRM keys for working x-reality?

Hello guys, i've recently found the mod restoring DRM keys, which thereafter make x-reality and, even vivid for videos work. Moreover it improves camera's quality. So i'd like to find out whether this mod works on our device or not. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672
well ....im not on a sony rom. But I might just give it a go. Just for fun :fingers-crossed:
edit: The interesting thing is this does absolutely nothing! haha, I might change to a sony based rom to find out. Perhaps later this evening or tomorrow
Interesting - It wont restore the DRM keys, but looks like it flashes a [updated?] DRM server and some other libs to get around the fact that the DRM keys aren't there
Uhm ...I flashed "EXR.MN-Ming_Xperia_ZU V1.4.zip"
Booted
rebooted to recovery
wipe data/system/cache/dalvik cache
flash DRM Restore for Xperia by EXRxYKG.zip
and rebooted
I don't ..see much difference in photos. I might make another test later.
Well in the thread the OP took screenshots and posted so I did the same...I notice no difference

x-reality for mobile
super-vivid mode
All in one
edit: the color of images changes if I apply the different modes and open any image in the album app

That's ok, as far as i'm concerned the x-reality and super vivid modes apply only to album and movie apps. Thanks for testing it, gonna try it on my own.

the ZU has been confirmed, it is working :good: My photos look great!
dunno what op in that thread had done, perhaps just illustrated the effect by modifying the images in some editing program?
Here's the pictures in op post.

Device: Xperia Z Ultra C6833
Rom: EXR.MN-Ming_Xperia_ZU V1.4

Screen is being more vivid with X-reality being set to "X-reality for mobile" or "Super-vivid mode".
Here is a screenshot of TrackID app, working good.
Pictures taken in dark environment. When looking at the screen it has lots of noise. But as soon as I take the picture a nice picture is generated without any red or blue noise. And the pictures are taken in almost complete darkness.

Xperia C5 ultra Camera quality

Hi all
I'm looking for a camera app better than the one that is installed from sony.
I know that sony did not implement the camera 2 api but the pictures taken with their camera app appears blur, washed, and in general poor quality.
So I'm waiting for your experience...:fingers-crossed:
Thanks
François
I've tried a few Camera apps, but I don't think I've found one that gives better result.
As far as I'm concerned the picture quality is okay, just make sure to keep your hands steady and wait for a few seconds because this phone does have shutter lag.
If you want to shoot faster, as long as you're in good lighting condition, use the Manual mode, choose Sports scene, that'll shorten the shutter lag a little.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
There is NOTHING wrong with the camera or the default software.
Quality is great, you just have to know how to use a camera, use of iso, shutter speed, etc...
I think image quality is great and I'm quite happy to post several shots should you wish.

Hi
I can confirm that FreeDcam (special build made by defcomg) allows the Xperia C5 ultra dual (E5533) to shoot in raw and save pictures as dng. Those dng pictures can be processed with Lightroom, Rawtherapee or Photoshop to get the best of the raw picture. :victory:
Here is the link of FreeDcam thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/camera-freedcam-4-0-3-t3115548
and see from post #37 on page 4. The right released apk is linked on post #57 in page 6. Some minors problems stays there but overall job is well done.
Thanks to defcomg for his quick job and the quality of the result.:good:
François
Should you know how to take pictures, the C5 Ultra is a very capable camera and takes excellent pictures. Here are several recent ones taken:

Question Camera presets for shooting in low light

I remember my old Xperia Z1 having amazing presets to take pictures in low light. Now, I am a proud owner of the Xperia 1 III without such luxury
Am I the only one missing those? Yes, you can play with the Shutter and the Iso to get better results while taking pictures in low light without a flash, but that takes time to do it. By the time you make all those manual settings, you would lose that photography moment...
I tried the function "S" and the function "Auto". The last one, "Auto" scored the best but way far from the presets of the Xperia Z1.
Does anyone know a way to fix this inconvenient issue? Maybe a better quick setting or some presets that can be imported? Sony...can you give us those presets with your next update??? I don't want an iPhone owner to embarrass me with its great low light pictures

I preferred this, key is single auto focus and dro auto instead of hdr auto.
