ok i have had several different android phones in the last few months and ive experienced this on all of them. whenever i receive a mms it always plays as a slide show. its always a 20s slide show and the first 10s is a blank black screen and then the second 10 is the picture. i can save and view the picture like any picture in my gallery. is there some way to disable it? i have tried different text replacements like go sms and handcent and they are still all the same. it doesnt matter what phone it came from. even when i send one it sends as a slideshow on my phone but just shows up as a picture on my gfs phone(iphone 3gs). i currently have a galaxy s ii but i have had a streak 5, atrix, and an inspire 4g. any help is appreciated

Is anyone having issues receiving picture messages?
A friend of mine owns the vibrant and hes with bell ( who myself and other friends have had poor experience with before) and he hasn't gotten a single picture message since hes gotten his phone.
We've all sent him picture messages at different times and when he has full bars etc... but hes never gotten a single one.
If he is running a rooted rom, you might want to check the APN settings. Towards the bottem you will see MMS info. Just make sure it matches what is needed for the carrier. A google search should turn up the info to compare with.
My friend got a TB and can't send or receive pictures via mms. He gets the exact same message as a poster on a different forum:
"I just wanted to throw this out there as I have not found a solution...
I've had my Thunderbolt for like a week and a half now and for the majority its been great. Starting about yesterday, I've been unable to send or receive MMS/picture messages.
If someone sends me one, I get a little note in my conversation that says "so and so" is trying to send a message and lets me choose download or delete. This seems new to me, I don't remember seeing this notification in my text convo. If I choose download, it shows a little icon with a clock in it, as its trying to download the picture. After about 5 minutes, I get a notification that it failed because of a generic network failure.
A similar thing happens if I try to send a message to someone with a picture in it. My regular texting works fine and I can go on the internet perfectly. I've tried sending messages with WiFi and/or Mobile Data on/off... doesn't seem to make a difference.
Called VZW last night and they took me through battery pulls, SIM card pulls, and whatnot... didn't fix the problem. They were checking things on their end but did not see an issue. The last woman I got gave me two options, 1, she could open a network tix for me or 2, I could go to store and do a phone swap as I'm in my converage period. I told her to put in the tix for now, and perhaps I'd swap this weekend.
Anyone have any idea what is going on?"
So far nobody has answered. He's using stock rom, and the stock messaging settings / handcent settings match the way they are set on my Evo. If anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated.
is it on 3G or 4G? MMS will not work unless your in data coverage
Does not work on 3g, 4g, or Wi-fi.
what about sending it through regular messaging? I couldn't tell if he is using Handcent or using regular messaging. How about uninstalling Handcent?
The problem persists with or without handcent.
Make sure the picture being sent is not too big. If this doesn't do it you may have to call Verizon about it. Going back a few years I had an issue with my dumb phone. Couldn't receive picks. They had to reset my account. Also some providers don't always send pic messages so well to verizon. Have your friend have some on on Verizon send him a pic.

Hey guys,
Just got my SGS2 lastnight and need a hand with a possible problem sending picture messages on AT&T. Please forgive me if there is something really simple that I am missing cause this is my first Android phone and I've had all 45 minutes to test it.
Went through all the standard test just to make sure the phone was working. Phone call, voicemail, texting, etc. I can receive a text message containing a picture but for some reason I can not send one.
Snapped a picture with camera, selected photo and picked message. Select contact and hit send. Text message starts to upload with photo but then times out and stops.
Is there a setting I need to enable? Does anyone know if AT&T is capping pic size? Thanks in advance for the help.
Mine works. It just says compressing image, then it will compress and i click on send with no problems. Do you have 3G, H, or H+ in your status bar? Also how is your signal strength(bars) in the area that you are using the phone in. @ my job where the signal is crap, it will attempt to send a photo for about 30 minutes, then tell me it was unsuccessful. Try to be in a good service spot with 2-3 bars of 3G, H, or H+ and send a photo. It should work. Do you have web & messaging on your account with ATT?

yes the limit on mms pic size is 600k but the messaging app asks to resize it for you automatically. if you dont see the resize pop up then maybe that is your problem.
best thing to do is just install handcent and test out sending pic messages with that. gives you way more configure options anyway to help get your mms working.
Just took a new picture and sent it to a buddy with a iphone4. He got this time but I've never seen the residing message. I think i must have messed something up lastnight when i linked the photo to the message because i definitely had 3G/H+. I'll have to do some more testing but thanks for the help and the alternate app. In the meantime, if anyone knows what would prevent the auto-resize. Let me know.

So when my wife calls me and certain other incoming calls, their is a tiny little camera icon within the contact icon pic. Is that for native ICS video calling or google talk or google plus. I'm not sure, and I dont see any way to even turn it on. Does anybody know what its for and how to use it?
Thanks.
If you go to the peoples tab under your phone settings I believe it should be next to her name as well. It is for Google Talk Video Chat on my phone so I would assume the same for yours. It goes between green and orange for available and away I guess. My brother and wife both have phones with FF cameras and I have the option on both contact entries.
Hi, I'm using an HTC One X+ on Airvoice with the ViperX custom ROM. The problem is, ever since I started using it, it hasn't received any SMS messages. It sends them perfectly fine, but when someone replies I don't get the text. A couple things are strange about this.
1. I get pictures. If someone sends me a photo with their text, I will get the photo but no actual text.
2. It makes the notification SOUND as soon as someone sends me something, but nothing shows up in Messaging. This is especially frustrating. I know this because I've tested it with other phones in the same room.
I found the appropriate APN settings for my phone on the Airvoice website for both WAP and MMS and tried them both. The WAP APN tends to work best so I'm using that. I've also tried putting the SIM card in another phone and back into mine, which I heard might solve the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
