I am trying to clear out EVERYTHING that is not necessary for the functioning of this device. I do not need web browsing, music player, video playback, calendar, etc. I have tried to customize stock ROM 4349 with no such luck, I can not manage to get the ROM to boot after install even after doing a cache / data wipe. Does anyone got any suggestions or know of a "empty" stock ROM I could use?
You could delete all the apk files your not interested in with any of the custom roms.
Well the guy I am doing it for wants it as close to stock as possible. He wants them to rin just a single custom made application with very little other functionality. Including underclocked processor, and minimal background apps. I was trying to build a custom ROM but I am assuming I am having an issue with the updater-script file.

Hey guys I've been using my trusty htc Hero for about 2 years now and lately I've been noticing it's no longer what it quite used to be..
That being that it doesn't run smoothly the latest apps and can't perform some simple tasks decently enough for that matter.
Also, a very important thing is that all the latest ROMs are heavily loaded with apps I just don't need. What I want is a very lightweight ROM with only the essential apps installed on it so that I would be able to customize it exactly the way I want.
I once tried to manually modify a ROM with a kitchen, but it's too much hassle and for some reason the ROM kept crashing and lagging.
Please suggest some lightweight ROM (2.1 or higher preferable) that only has the most essential stuff in it.
Thanks so much in advance!!
Open the zip of the Rom you want, delete apks you don't want in system - app then sign it (i use autosigner) voila you have a light Rom
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
you can do that ^
Or you install rootexplorer on your phone, browse to "/system/app/" and delete everything you don't need. Then reboot the phone, and wipe cache and dalvik. (not needed, just in case)
It's basically the same, just.. another method ^^

Yep, its what I do, I use ESFile Explorer and delete everything I do not need, including the launcher and the standard SMS app to replace them with my personal choices. I am running Elelinux Speedmachine 4 and applied the changes I mentioned now and it runs smooth as hell, no crashes, no problems whatsoever.
Because of the Cyanogen Mod I do not even need SetCPU anymore.
The autosigning for me somehow never really worked, thats why I went to this method.
I would however like a very basic rom where only the real necessary stuff is installed and you can custom install what you want on top of it then...
Hello,
Came from the lightening rom and flashed Hydrog3n-ics 4.0.4 with full wipe and as instructed. Did not change kernel or anything. However, I cannot get flash to work in any browser. The flash plugin is detected on the website however on playing the content it freezes even before it starts.
The media content (cant go full screen or pause/stop, loading circle stops dead) is then unresponsive and the browser, eg. dolphin hd, lags.
Ive tried doing a wipe, flashing gapps and then wiping dalvik then setting permissions but that doesnt solve it and nothing changes in regard to the gapps anyways.
Has this got something to do with the external card? Because I cant seem to find it with Astro (since the rom did not come with a music player app) and 3rd party media players have difficulty finding my MP3 files located on the external sd card.
If I haven't provide sufficient information please ask me to clarify.
Cheers
Know issue with flash and cm9
Only 10% websites work with flash
try this rom
much better.....
No bugs whatsoever. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried westcrips rom and it was a bit unstable so was put off.
If only 10 percent of flash sites work with cm9 roms then I don't really understand the attraction to them. Thanks for the info and suggestion, I am on SimplisticLE, which is a great ROM and most flash site I use work.
I was hoping for a fix since Hydrog3nic-ICS was really stable, fast and I had an excellent battery life on it.
Thanks
I have just did a clean install of Omega ROM v41 (selected the basic one) and I have a few questions:
Would ask this in the actual Omega thread but I cannot post there due to post count.
1. If I want some of the Samsung apps it didn't install like S Memo, can I install them now (without reflashing the whole ROM), if yes then how.
2. The Allshare is installed but does not seem to beam photos, videos, music via wifi to my Samsung TV anymore, how to fix that?
3. Can I get the Samsung version of Voice Search back instead of googles? I think it looks better and also ow to set it up so that you double press the home button for it?
1+3. because you flashed the basic you didn't get these apps.
you can extract the zip file via root explorer or from your pc and go to /indie\Samsung\SMemo\app and the same for the s voice.
anyways you can just re-flash the rom over the existing without any wipe and just choose both features from custom install at aroma.

I've actually just extracted Smemo and Svoice from the Omega ROM zip and installed them separately and they work fine.
Allshare came installed with the basic but it no longer beams stuff to the TV.
The best thing was its integration with the music/video/galley which I really want back.
The stock rom for the YP-G70 has a working fm radio app that I'd like to use with my current rom (CM 10.1).
Is this even possible?
If anybody's managed to do it, what're the steps? (the default apps are stored as .apk with a .odex file and xultimate can't seem to handle the files (get "top level error" about missing files and such)) If possible, I'd like to avoid using Linux since getting stuff to play nice through the virtual machine can be a headache.
Been a while since I made a ROM for an Android Headunit so I am a little rusty, but hopefully this works.
This is basically the JY ROM from 9/23/2015 with:
the userdata partition changed to 3GB
modded JY apps (4.8 for music, 4.2 for radio, 4.1 for BT and 4.0 Blue for videos - see this thread for details of them - Thanks to @sabruri1, @ANACLETOESTR, @pk313 and @robertut for their work on the apps).
also MTCWeather was updated to 1.4.1 so currently it is working like it should.
I haven't tested this so make sure you know what you are doing and currently it is only RK3188 1024x600 (I may make other versions if it works and there is demand).
Rom isn't rooted and has nothing else added (I wanted something as close to stock as possible, I just didn't want to have to use root explorer to copy in all the updated system apps repeatedly.
Root should work with the factory setting password tho.
Anyway hopefully someone can test.
Also:
Since the userdata partition is changing size you need to wipe data before and after flashing.

Glad to see more ROMs for our devices come up, but I won't go back to a non-FUSE ROM. I'm currently running the booroondook ROM and love it. I tried the latest Malaysk ROM, but went back to booroondook after 2 days for different reasons.
Nice to see another ROM on the scene, it is a shame that we do not get the variety that phones get, I too am using booroondook and Malaysk ROM's, but as soon as someone makes a rom that TomTom can work on I will jump ship.
I found that the booroondook rom still had to much stuff added, I don't really see the point in adding a bunch of additional apks or options when they are simple enough to download and change. Plus I don't think weather works on any of those other ones out of the box. FUSE is nice but I think 3GB is more than enough and still leaves plenty of room on the NAND for media files, etc.
