[Q] Changing phone region with Build.prop edit?? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

hi guys, I just bought a Neo from Singapore (was in transit and couldn't resist) now I would like to change the build.prop so next time I update the phone it doesn't give me the Chineese software rather European software..
Is this possible on the new/2011 xperia's? I'm thinking back to the 2.1 updates for the old phones last year.. before Bin4ry's Flashtool was around we just changed the build.prop to update to 2.1 Nordic.
or is it easier to just download a european firmware and flash it?.. (I'm on holiday for 3 months and don't have my own laptop to play around with flash tool... so OTA would be better, but could "steal" my girlfriends lappy if it's really going to be easier)
Cheers
Kiwi

Flash directly latest Global 2.3.4 FW and save your nerve and time

Cheers, Yea did that in the end.. Was a real pain getting the drivers on my girlfriends laptop.. Had to download an old version of seus because it doesn't seem to install with pc companion anymore.. Got it sorted in the end though
Now to get rid of some bloat ware.. Loving the neo tho.. Amazing phone for the $$

[Q] Optus Firmware HELP!

Hi XDAnians,
I'm new to Android, being a previous WinMobo user I need some help.
I just purchased a White Xperia x10i through ebay.
The phone comes with chinese firmware from Hong Kong.
I would like to change it to Australia Optus latest firmware branded or un-branded i don't really care, as long as it has everything in english.
Currently running;
Firmware: 1.6
Baseband: 1.1.31
Kernel: 2.6.29-rel
Build: R2BA026
Can anyone direct me to the ROM / Firmware download suitable.
Any help would be really appreciated!!!
Thanks heaps.
Check out the decrypted roms thread.

Just use the latest ROOT method and you will get the newest firmware
The simplest way to get onto the optus branded firmware is to signup @ www.omnius-server.com download omnius flash tool from here.
and download the optus .16 firmware from here. (Both links came from the omnius site in case they dont work when you click them).
Then use omnius to flash the phone.
Once completed, you can updated to the latest .26 firmware via SEUS or PC Companion.
You now have a fully branded optus X10. Should you want to root the phone, download the exploid package from the xda forums and root the phone from there.
Have done this a few times now for people that used the unbranded roms and wanted to go back to stock.
Works well and is nice and fast once you have all the files.

Well like u, being sick of the football icon, I was sick of the chinese stuff lol I didn't know what was going on! (Figure of speech) haha
Optus firmware was easier to setup. I did this mainly test the difference in firware and the android limitations.
Turns out, they're the same. LoL back to good old drawing board.

I myself had the same issue with the optus firmware. I like being on the branded firmware for the time when they will release the next update.
If you root using exploid, you can then install titanium backup and freeze the football app, moxier mail and anything else thats annoying you.
So now I still have the official optus branded firmware, but without the extra crap I'll never use.
Would one click exploit work? Cant we just uninstall moxier etc. . .
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Because moxier is a system application you need root to be able to have read/write acces. Thus allowing removal of system apps.
I run the Optus branded software and have removed the football app etc. Just open Titanium Backup go to preferences and select chuck norris mode it should delete fine after that.
Yeah but your phones locked to optus. try sticking a telstra sim in it and see what happens.
mine's running a uk branded firmware because i know australia will be a few months behind europe for the 2.1 update.
on a side note, i was playing around with a desire today but i still can't understand what people get so excited about - lags, browser freezes, full of plastic. this thing really is a cheap piece of tawainese crap. give me the x10 any day (and i only have the mini).
Will the optus firmware update to 026? or will we be stuck on a later version.
I want to go back to optus firmware for the usage app etc and then root it (I believe that is possible now) but if i'm still stuck on an older version, I'll stay on the generic and update to 026.

You'll notice from the guide I posted on the first page that I stated to update the phone once back on branded firmware.
You will not be stuck on a certain revision and your phone will continue to recieve optus OTA's etc as they become available.
The reason I say to use the exploid method to root is it doesn't matter if you update at some stage you simply reinstall/rerun the same app and BOOM rooted phone again.
So to summarise....
Yes you can root your optus firmare
Yes you can upgrade on rooted optus firmware
No you will not be stuck on a certain firmware revision.

Why change region?

Hi everyone,
I'm in canada and own an x10 with rogers.
Last week, I loaded the global fw on it and rooted it. So far everything works great.
Reading up on other posts, it seems like some ppl who updated prematurely regardless of their regions are planning and coming up with ways to update according to their regions once the official updates roll out.
The question I have is, why? My x10 works fine although it's not x10a anymore. So is it necessary to switch?
Hi man, I just finished to re-flash my X10a with the new Brazilian FW (X10a 2.1) i choose to match Phone Version(X10a) with FW Version(X10a)....reflash is so easy why not?
Btw with GlobalFW my bluetooth dosent work with the laptop (1.6 do) but now with the correct FW works great again (placebo effect? idont kown)
maybe beacuse people want to keep their warranty...

Hi can you post your build.prop? I'm trying to put my 2.1 back to Brazil but I must have missed something, cos PC Companion can't download the file. I might have made a mistake with the version numbers...
Rogers will release 2.1 tomorrow.
Or at least this is the rumor.

It's very unlikely, but, some users also like/want their carrier/region specific bundled applications.
And, like, yeah, warranty.

I don't have 2.1.1.A.0.6 yet, this is normal?

Hey bro,
I think it is normal that the update has not come to your country or region yet as i live in new zealand and i only got a msg to update from pc companion in the middle of march but I'm pretty sure that FW was released mid to late Jan. Now this is only my opinion and i could be wrong about everything, but my reasoning for this is that every cell provider in each county that sell the mini pro must have to do their own little tweaks to the software that SE provides. Anyway i hope this helps.
Cheers,
Jeremy.

2.0.A or 2.1.A both are Android 2.1, they don't have big different each other.
My English also poor because I'm Chinese,I hope you can understand what I mean.
I want to update my soft becouse I want to install CyanogenMod
I need to have new version of kernel.

GOODLUCK!
Which Kernel version do you have?
I'm running 2.6.29 with CM6 v3.6.

[Q] using PC companion to update to gingerbread

when we update PC companion in our pc, it asks for our region right? if we give our region as thailand, is it possible to update our phone to the generic 2.3.3 gingerbread as it is released in Thai?
nope, someone else tried that already, there wasent an update to gingerbread even if u change your settings to thailand or china.
The most silly idea I've ever read on xda. Seriously, the update isn't released yet, and in fact there's no solid proofs that can prove the update at Thai was real, maybe its an unofficial update just for the expo, but it maybe fake too.
Just wait, when SE said its released then its released.
Sent from my X10 using XDA App
PC Companion reads your phone's CDA number to determine which firmware update you get. Changing the region on PC Companion won't do anything.
However, if you are rooted you can edit your CDA number in the build.prop file to change brands or regions. Reboot, then run repair software via SEUS or PC Companion with the edited CDA number. Just make sure you delete the contents inside the folder " db " found inside the folder where you saved SEUS or PC Companion on your computer.
Fyi, CDA 1234 - 4820 to change your phone to global generic X10a in preparation for the 2.3.3 Gingerbread update.

don't get too exited now... wait for the update

Maybe, no one besides some guys from SE, no anything so far.
Nothing is real, nothing is true, everything is just gossips, jokes or "guessed" information.
There is nothing saying when the updates are going to be released, to say poeple that it is coming in the next few months to me may mean 2 month and up to 10 months, who knows.
Just keep testing your custom rom.
what is all the fusss here
CM7 by J is very smooth and powerful with custome kernel and can be used daily.
Iris by Trip is Very Smooth and sweet with stock kernel and can be used daily.
Only problem they both have is proper camera and navigations issues.
If one cant live without gps or camera.
There are so many best and perfect 2.2 roms such as TripMiui Iris 1.6.5
Wolf Cm6
all features working, no reboots no lags. Pure performance

Well if he's on a X10i device and inserts a CDA for X10a, the device wont be recognized by SEUS or PCC.
So remember to only use CDA's that correspond to your device.
I can not live with my X10i without gps or camera and HD video.
Will goes back to stock ROM for gps & camera, giving up App2sd, adobe flash and multi touch.

Yes, if you have X10i, then use the X10i global generic CDA. I just didn't know it to post it. However, it doesn't matter for SEUS or PC Companion. The difference would be in the baseband.

Yes it does matter to SEUS and PCC what CDA you use.
As I said they wont recognize your device and allow you to flash if you put a X10a CDA into a X10i or a SO-01b CDA into a X10a. The CDA must be for your device, be it X10a, X10i or SO-01b.

No. Both J and Trip's ROMs, although great, are not complete. Huge battery drain, not so smooth at times, no full camera and videocamera.
2.2 ROMs have Video camera lag, HUGE battery issues with custom kernels, and are good but...it's definitely not perfect.
SE's 2.3.3 would fix all that, not to mention might add new features like tethering and 16M colors.
Wow, cant believe theres no meantion of enoloks 2.2 xshinybread rom. Ive been using it for 3 days now with 350 kernel. The camcorder is super smooth and loud audio, no lag, I have 2 x10s and compared to optimized 2.1 with camera mods. On top of that one, everything works perfect for me and after a few cycles Ive got 12hrs as of now and at 48% battery moderate use with bluetooth all day. I quadrant 1380 and linpack 36+, 1420 and 38 with 347 kernel but not completely stable. Ive tried trips billions of updates, and wolfs is nice but I had some issues with battery, among other things, this is the best Ive tried. That said, official gingerbread is what Im waiting for and no disrespect to the devs meantioned, I know its somewhat of a collabaration so they all deserve respect, thats why I chimed in.

According to unknown13x, you won't be able to get the official 2.3.3 Gingerbread update directly from PC Companion or SEUS on modified (rooted) firmware. You'll have to run repair software via SEUS or PC Companion prior to updating or use the Flash Tool to reflash generic 2.1.A.0.435 firmware.

[Q] Mini Pro SK17i no ICS upgrade?

Hi... I just bought a brand new Mini Pro, and it came with 2.3 GB Android. I went to software update and it updated to 4.0.2.A.0.62 - but it's still 2.3.4. GingerBread! I tried with PC Companion, it says I have the latest software... how do I get stock ICS?
Thank you in advance

If that doesn't work either, use flashtool and flash the stock ics rom

Thanks for the quick reply. Sony Update service just informed me that I have the latest software, just like OTA and PC Companion. I then tried with flashtool and 4.1.B.0.431 firmware, which worked after a couple of tries It seems that new phones are not recognized for automatic update to ICS, so it has to be done manually.

Yeah, no problem with that... but I noticed something very strange when I removed the battery... my brand new sk17i, bought in june 2013. has 11W37 manufacturing week label! So, either those numbers are not what they seem to be (year W week), or the importer got some cheap, old, recalled, forgotten-in-the-warehouse, first batch units. I checked the manufacturing date because the famous chirping and static clicking sounds are there, I thought that problem was solved with the new units (I used to have mini pro some time last year). Now I know...
