Alpha 3 keeps rebooting! - TouchPad General

Just installed alpha 3. It keeps rebooting over and over again. It works for awhile and if I leave it on for abit it will reboot.
Anyone experience this?

Could be a bad download or flash.. Try going into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and reflash. Possibly a new download...

Boot to clockwork recovery - select advanced options and wipe your dalvik cache - then reboot.
9/10 times this will reboot properly. It will take a little longer to reboot after doing this.

Charge your battery.

Been noticing the same issues with mine. Wireless didn't work from one location to the next with Alpha 2 (Work to home, etc.) but I never had a reboot issue.
Since Alpha 3, which I always wipe cache and dalvik, I've been sitting there and I'll look over and see it rebooted.
I removed SetCPU (was only running @ 1.2Ghz) and just redownloaded, wiped again and flashed again. I'll put SetCPU back on, and see if this helps.
When I first flashed A3, the WiFi worked much better from place to place.
Lately, it turns itself off when it reboots on it's own.

Does Alpha 3 come with SetCPU already set to 1.3? I OC'd the WebOS but never touched it in CM7. I will have to check as the reboots as I have been using WebOS lately because I just wanted the tablet to work.
I did the Wipe Dalvik Cache and it seems to help but the reboots are less frequent. A couple of times the touchscreen wouldn't work but the actual physical hardware buttons would work in Alpha 3.
I can't wait until this is in Beta but it's running pretty well.

You can also try a fix permissions from in Rom Manager.

You may have to adjust SetCpu min to at least 384 mine is 500 though

Random reboots into safe mode?

So, my gf's white fascinate running superclean 2.9.2 has booted into safe mode randomly each of the last 3 days. Has anyone else had this problem? And are there any solutions? I've flashed the rom more than once and sometimes it reboots at 30% battery.
Mine boots into that safe mode thing after I run the script to wipe battery stats in terminal. Another reboot and it boots into the normal mode. I have no idea why it does that.
Same problem, she reboots and its fine for a day. My phone has the same setup and no problems. Hoping someone can help me out.
i used to have that problem on 2.9.1 all the time, but since 2.9.2 i havent had any problems

I did. Tomorrow I think ill do an Odin back to stock, then flash 2.9.2 again and see if it works.
Ok. My girlfriend's Fascinate has been doing this while mine hasn't and we're both running 2.9.2. It may be time to wipe her phone to get everything working properly again. I tried running fix permissions on Thursday, so I'm gonna wait to see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't, it's wipe city.
Yeah, the whole "deep clean" where you manually wipe all the partitions from Clockwork (twice, if you're paranoid) *before* you do a full Odin may be good, just to be safe.

Multiple Reboots everyday!

i m using darkside Rom ,and my phone reboots almost in every hour, i am new to android please solve my problem ,its very annoying, thanx!

gingerbread 2.3.5
have you tried to flash the rom again to c if thats the problem
Hi there,
1. Did u do a full wipe before installing the new rom?
2. You could try installing faux123 1Ghz kernel LINK use "Enhanced Stock Kernel, Max @ 1.0 GHz". Install the one for GINGERBREAD
Link to Faux123 1.0 GHz kernel
[ Installation procedure: ]
[ CWM Method ]
1. reboot to CWM
2. Clear cache
3. install zip from SDcard
4. Reboot
Hope this helps
P.S.: "Wet Dream" is the new version of "The Darkside" might be worth to take a look
Grtz
Faux kernel will prevent boots but will erase every widget at every reboot...
I has the best results with the stock intl kernel (see GingerMod Rom). I don't have reboots anymore...
Sounds like the rom didn't install properly, I'd go through the wipe and factory reset/dalvik once again and reinstall. Just make sure to do a backup just in case it backfires.

That's just not true. I've used both .23 and .24beta kernels and the widget thing rarely happens. It does happen, but not on every reboot.

As has been already mentioned, make sure you do a full and proper wipe of your phone before flashing roms, but another problem could be that you're being too extreme with undervolting. Try reducing your undervolts if you have been undervolting. Or, if you have an extreme overclock kernel, consider lowering clock speeds because each phone is different, and some (even ones of the same type) can't handle as high of clock speeds as others. But, I suspect that your main problem is that you didn't follow the proper steps before flashing.
1. Boot into recovery (hold the volume down button while booting, then press down until you see android recovery, and then press up)
2. Do a factory reset
3. Clear cache partition
4. Clear dalvik cache
5. flash the zip
Note: factory reset will erase all your data, so backup any files you want to keep before doing so.
To flash a new kernel, do what denbeutels said, except you should clear dalvik as well. Android needs to recompile certain things to optimize them for the new kernel, so it's a very important step.

Are you following the faux123 kernel thread in development?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22178618&postcount=2965
Ok, after running a few days on the new faux 0.2.4 1.45GHz kernel, I've experienced quite a few reboots as well (ok, an order of magnitude more than before). Right now I have gone back to faux 0.2.3 1.3GHz and haven't seen any problems yet. I was mainly getting reboots during undocking (all dock types), but also sometimes during normal use. And I'm talking about 3-5 reboots throughout the day.
Edit: And of course, as soon as I posted this, I got another reboot (this time while using webtop in the lapdock and simply closing a Synaptic window). Next I'll have to start tracking down anything I installed recently that may be doing this.

Android is updating

I've seen a post about this one in the EVO area, but not here amongst us SGS3 owners:
When I reboot my phone, it always goes through an "Android is updating, application xxx of 3xx" counting up - and takes two or three minutes every reboot.
Is this normal under ICS?
Hmm, I'd say this is Not normal. One of the big "selling points" of the gs3 and ICS is the quick boot time. For me it is very quick. Maybe u should try doing a factory reset and see if it stops this behavior??

If you're rebooting your phone after you wipe your dalvik cache, than that is normal. Reason being is that it stores applications for optimization so that the OS can run more smoothly. When you wipe your dalvik, it clears them out, and then when you reboot, it rebuilds the cache for all applications. Just do a normal reboot without wiping anything and see if it still does it.
That is not normal if it is happening on every boot, only if you wipe your dalvik cache then yes it will update.

Yep, just a simple reboot or even a fault / reboot does the same thing. I'm not wiping the Dalvik cache or anything. Happens every time I boot my phone, and I've noticed over the past few days that I never seem to go into 4G/LTE mode any more. Curious - I guess I've laid the hammer on it a bit too much.
Are you using a custom rom or rooted? Or are you completely stock?

what rom r u using ????
with aokp there are setting to which the user can wipe cache and dalvik on every reboot
I read on another forum that a TitaniumBackup odex file may cause this on certain phones. Try uninstalling the apk and then re-install it.

Sure sounds like it. I'm using the "Route66" rooted ROM with the Invisiblek overclocking kernel in place of the recovery.
Most likely the overclock. i ran the stock rooted 66 with no issue. I also have titanium backup installed without that issue.

Worth a shot. I'll give it a rip and report back... Thanks!
hmmm... Uninstalled and replaced Titanium Backup, reflashed the stock recovery: no joy there. I'm still getting the rebuild every time I boot. I suppose when I have more time (read next weekend, I'm working 12 hours every day this weekend, then my niece is in town for a week), I'll blow it to hades and start over.

Thanks, guys!

Not bricked, but pretty much stuck. Rampant reboots

I've had my NT for quite a while now. Once I got it, I'm pretty sure I used the nook & zergy tool to root, and that's been it.
I've been on 1.4 forever, with CWM 5.5.04 as my recovery (on the emmc maybe? I don't need an sd to boot into it).
I've noticed that my stability has been declining, with random reboots here and there and rapid battery drain, so I decided it was time to get back to some flashing. I started with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494367, using the first 1.42 version as the others are dead. Everything loaded and booted fine, but it reboots with little provocation...you know, like, touching it, and may or may not go into a reboot cycle 3-4 times before chilling out. I still can't do much without triggering a reboot though. Search in the market? Reboot.
I attempted to restore using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190, but it just boots right up normally. If I manually flash it it fails.
So, here I am with a non-bricked NT that doesn't do me much good, and I'm wondering how to get it back in order.
Are you wiping cache and dalvik cache from recovery?
Also, are the reboots occurring on battery power, or on charging as well?
Sent from my ST27i
I've done a data wipe and wiped the dalvik from cwm. I've not wiped the cache partition if that's what you're asking. Reboots are when it's unplugged or plugged.

Ok. Data wipe does wipe cache as well.
You could try a cm Rom to see if the problem persists, but if you are looking for warranty, better to stay on stock.
Also, if you pull last kernel message ( from /proc/kmsg) , some dev may be able to determine cause for reboot.
I think it's possible this is a hardware issue.
Sent from my ST27i
Thanks for jumping on this. I went ahead and wiped the cache partition, because "why not?" and I'll be damned, but I haven't had a reboot yet. Hitting search in the market was a sure trigger, and it's behaving well so far.

/Cache and /Data are two separate partitions on emmc, and unless something change in recent CWM/TWRP Recovery, there are separate menu options to wipe each of them.
/Data is typically used to hold user downloaded/installed apps, and should not need to be wiped except when upgrading to a different ROM or a different ROM version.
I really don't know much about how all that works, but for whatever reason, wiping the cache fixed my issue.

4.3 roms don't like my phone turning off

Every time my phone dies, or I turn it off or I reboot, no matter what 4.3 rom I'm using, it stays on the boot animation until I either pull battery or hold power to turn off. I've flashed, reflashed, dirty flashed clean flashed (I format the system as well) I've tried CM10.2, PacMan, and Beanstalk and all three have this issue. I haven't read anywhere that someone else is having problems like this. Please advise!:fingers-crossed:

I have the same problem. Can't seem to figure it out either. The only way to fix it is to reflash. At first I thought it was an app or setting but after a clean install and boot I reboot without going through the setup but it still would not reboot.
Same
I'm having the exact same issue and as you have, I've tried everything I can think of.
Ive tried flashing CM 10.2 + GAPPS, just CM10.2, 3 different types of Google Edition Roms and in every case the initial boot is fine... It boots and works perfectly, however on first reboot, it wont boot back up.
It just sits on the SGS4 logo, have left it for 25 minutes.
I would really love to know how to fix this. The only way to get it working after it has been restarted once is to delete cache, dalvik AND data...
Cache and Dalvik don't fix it.
figured a little bit...
Well now that I've flashed it using TWRP instead if CWM touch, it does reboot back up. However with TWRP flashing I'm getting reboots while typing.

If this works can you post a quick overview of what you did...
Because I've tried reinstalling TWRP and it didnt seem to help, but happy to try again if it works for you!
All is good!
Been running it since I installed using the method i mentioned above.
The ROM is running smoothly with no issues or reboots. I did reboot it a couple times to verify that it is booting properly.
Alright...I installed TWRP through Goomanager, when I did this I selected the manual option and booted into CWM and performed a BACK UP first...flashed the TWRP.zip file that goo downloaded for me. Version 2.6.0.1 I think it was? I rebooted into recovery and found it successfully flashed TWRP, I went into the wipe options and chose data cache system and dalvik, backed out and chose install and reinstalled Cm10.2 and GApps. I'm able to reboot and all but I'm still finding reboots here and there....I was able to go 18hrs on battery (awesome for stock settings!) And without a single reboot.

Yeah, I posted in the dev thread, that particular one gives me reboots while typing if the vibrate on key press is on. Other than that it was working fine. I'm still digging the cm 14th nightly.
