Anyone try to do this? I know uninstalling does not work, but this is supposed to trick the recovery into removing the app.

Not sure if you saw them, but there are two scripts in the development forum that allow you to disable bloatware
My understanding is that you can only Freeze apps right. And yes you can use the one-click bloat removal on the dev sub-forum.
Yeah, I have the bloat frozen. But while I was messing with restoring my apps I noticed the feature and was curious if anyone tried it.

After hacking the phone to run webtop without the docks, I was just going about my phone and was curious about the "System updates" button and got this:
Social Networking account required
"com.android.setttings.deviceinfo.CheckUpdate" is not available without a social networking account. To create a new account, click "Setup" button
When I click the setup button, nothing happens. Did I mess up one of the files during the process of hacking my phone, because before attempting the webtop hack, when I still had root and adeo on, I did not get this message.
Account syncing: my facebook account will not sync with the contacts on my phone. The social networking app and widget is not running properly for the same reason as from the message given above ^^.
Can someone help me with this? Thanks
Did you use Titanium Backip to freeze apps. This is a symptom of freezing apps. To get this to work unfreeze all your apps and make sure the MotoBlur account is syncing.
I didn't use titanium backup to freeze any of the apps. I'm still kind of new to android and so I might need some guidance in more simpler terms
Did you create a blur account?
yes and it was already linked when I received my unit on the 21st
would it be reasonable to attempt a factory reset, even though I rooted it and installed ADEO?

What exactly does freezing do? I can't seem to find a answer on the net. Can one manually "defrost" a frozen app?

I think so, I'm pretty sure TiBu just adds a ".bak" to the application because when you freeze something it's still in your app drawer until you restart your phone vs when it's uninstalled its gone instantly. The benifit to freezing vs uninstalling is if you freeze the wrong thing or want it back it's still there, but if you uninstall it it's gone and you'd need to ask someone else for it or something.
anyone solved this error? I also got the error today
Is your phone deodexed? That could be the problem maybe.

I have rooted my razr, no issues. One thing i thought that you could do with the rooted phone was uninstall pre-installed apps like, blockbuster, amazon. apps like that. is that not possible. If it is, can somone please give instructions on how to uninstall them. Thanks
You can use Titanium backup, and i suggest you freeze them instead of uninstalling.
Uninstalling stock apps hinder official updates.
How do i freeze them? and will that make it so they dont display in my app drawer?

Exactly! Just open Titanium Backup, go to the apps list and press on the app you want to freeze, in the following popup just press the deactivate-button.
Thanks for the help.
Don't uninstall factory bloat. You *WILL* regret doing it. Use the options to hide most of it, use TitaniumBackup to freeze the rest. You will still be able to take OTA update with no issue, just install Voodoo to keep root.
You don't even need to unfreeze or unroot when an OTA comes out.

All system apps are .apk files. "Freezing" one with titanium backup or doing it manually will change the .apk extension to .bak (back up). Nothing is removed, just deactive. The apps don't run and wont appear in your app tray. They're dormant until unfrozen.
This is beneficial because many apps have ties with system functions or other apps that you don't know about. So if you accidentally break a link just unfreeze the app to fix the problem. Plus you'll need to do so in order to receive an OTA. If you don't the update with either not appear, or fail to install.

Ok, I'd like to remove apps that I don't use (stock browser, for example), so if its possible, has anyone figured out what apps can be removed without affecting system performance?

I removed a whole bunch of apps using Titanium Backup and Root Explorer last night. I really wasnt keeping track, I just removed the obvious ones..then I did a google search and it redirected me back to a thread in this site that actually lists what each app does. try to find it, im not sure where it is.
I think this is the thread you're referring to
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681729
I've been going through Titanium Backup and freezing some of the apps.
So this is my first Android phone, I just rooted it this morning and got ROM toolbox installed. Am I okay to go in and freeze or uninstall all these crappy bloat apps? I noticed in another thread that people were freezing a ton of apps instead of uninstalling - is there any particular reason for this? ROM toolbox apparently gives me the option to uninstall every app that's listed. Is freezing just a better idea for safety reasons? This is all very new to me but I'd like to uninstall as much of this bloat as possible.
Also, are there any other "must have" apps or fixes/tweaks that I should do now that I have root access?
You can uninstall the bloated verizon crap if you want, but some things may not work properly afterwards. i think that's why we usually freeze instead of uninstall.
what you can do instead is make a backup of any/all junk you want to remove. that way it's always there to reinstall if you find your phone not working properly.
if you plan on installing a custom ROM, then none of this even matters. Uninstall to your hearts content. But we typically like original backups of the whole system in case something F's up.

This is sorta of off topic, but can you make a backup of everything? I was stupid and uninstalled something i shouldnt have now the I cant login to my google account anywhere on the phone. Could you do this for me and send me the files(s)? It would be a god send.

Actually, I did the same thing to a couple of apps before I realized what was going on. Then I got titanium backup after posting here and backed everything up, minus the files I uninstalled. It was mostly some random Samsung bloat apps. Everything seems to be working fine, so I don't think I did any damage.
I'll see if I can get the backup uploaded and I'll send you a PM with the link.
So I recently transferred from an s7 to an s8, but somehow within the transfer, some app either gave me adware or has adware in it. I've removed literally every single app that I do not use regularly and disabled drawing over apps on ones that don't need it, but it's still coming up. Any solutions?
Install an antivirus and remove it?
Try to see what apps are running in background. other than the apps that you trust, try to look for the apps that seems suspicious to you or any app that you no longer use and uninstall it.
one more suggestion is start using adguards. adguards are the programs help in preventing the unnecessary ads popping up in your device.
many require root for better implementation of adguard patches system wide. but w/o root variants are also available.
Hit thanks if helped

Since I'm on Samsung, they won't let you see every single process running in the background. They hide the system processes and that's where the program is hiding. I've never heard of adguards before. My phone is currently on a software that is physically unable to be rooted, so I'd have to use the non root items.
[UPDATE] I'm stupid. I didn't check dev options. This helped more after that.

Tried it, did diddly squat. Unless you have one with an adware remover, it won't do anything.
