Hey everyone,
I'm still relatively new to developing, and this is just my first start getting my feet wet (My very first ROM). Anyway... here it is:
Welcome to Nookie Comb!
This ROM is based off of Nookie Froyo 0.6.8, thanks to Cicada and the Nook devs for all of their awesome work.
To be clear, I may or may not be entirely speedy on updates, but I will do as I can as time goes on.
I highly recommend using a Clockworkmod 3.0.1.0 SD card to flash this zip, as that's what I've been using and haven't tested any others.
As for the ROM, I think phiredrop says it best:
I am not responsible for any damages you may encounter (though you probably won’t). This is a Clockwork flashable zip only. It WILL erase your internal memory. Please make the necessary backups.
Features
Includes latest force status bar hack for Honeycomb like experience!!! (Force with Status Bar Toggle)(Thanks brianf21!!)
Choose between OC kernel or stock
Based on Nookie Froyo 0.6.8
Implements brianf21 and samuelhalff's bottom status bar implementation.
Altered the status bar and notification items to Honeycomb style positions
Customized LauncherPro v0.8.3 (based on s23's original version here)
Honeycomb Lockscreen Clock Font
Accurate Honeycomb Battery mod
Theming based on wretchedlocket and valle mod's themes
Honeybee boot animation
Apps
Gapps included
Notion Ink Keyboard (AWESOME!)
Honeycomb Clock Free
Honeycomb Music 3.0 apk
Notion Ink Canvas, E-mail, and Quickoffice included from here
NookColor UMS
Nookie-Froyo Utils to force/unforce statusbar at boot
Status Bar Toggle to force/unforce on the fly
QuickDesk Application to adjust the statusbar while within any application
Probably more stuff but that's all I recall
Installation
NOTE: Flash with the latest ClockworkMod Recovery/via ClockworkMod Recovery SD or standard Clockwork Recovery 3.0.1.0. This version is fully compatible with any Clockwork used for Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 (see the Nookie Froyo page here)
Copy "NookieCombvXXX.zip" to the root of your SD
Place SD in nook and power on
Format SYSTEM, DATA and CACHE (You do not need to wipe if coming from a previous version!)
Flash Nookie Comb
Once finished flashing, unmount your sdcard, remove from the slot and reboot.
Give your nook a few minutes to stabilize on first boot. Choose LauncherPro initially as your first action. You will have to adjust your softkeys settings to remove the little floating guy in the case you launch Softkeys, as well as want to set up how your button activate each launcher.
Once stable, I recommend a reboot. Helps prevent any issues.
You should be able to sign in to market right off the bat.
I highly recommend using my launcherpro_backup setting in the link below. This hides a few unusable apps, as well as sets up your home screen rows/columns and colors. To install, just unzip the launchepro_backup.zip to the root of your sdcard. Hit the menu button, select "Preferences" in LauncherPro, then "Restore Backup"
That's it!
Troubleshooting and Notes [Updated 4/13/11]
Flash: Most likely you installed over a previous Nookie Froyo or other ROM and decided not to do a full wipe, which is ok, except that your flash data and dalvik-cache exist from your old Flash install. Just uninstall flash, and reinstall from market
SD Card and Gallery: If you're having these issues, just visit settings, unmount SD, and mount again. Don't assume you can simply unplug and plug it back in. Even though it may look already mounted, doing it this way should fix those issues
Won't wake from sleep: This seems to have been associated with hot plugging the SD card before putting the Nook to sleep. Might only be associated with the OC kernel (thanks to arrjaytea)
You can optionally force your statusbar to be always on using Status Bar Toggle. This app is brought to you by brianf21!
It's recommended to set QuickDesk as your Launcher, then select LauncherPro within it. This way, double-tapping the hard home key will bring up the quick desk application while in any other application. You can put the Status Bar Toggle app here to toggle at any time
You can select the NI keyboard by holding your finger over a text box, selecting Input Method -> NI Keyboard
You can switch the symbols and caps by just double tapping the shift or fn keys. Symbol key is better than fn
Normal Android keyboard is still included in case you don't want the NI keyboard.
Additional
-Compatible with Froyo based kernels.
-Highly recommend downloading Desktop Visualizer from the market and using the HoneyComb Icons pack below to create Honeycomb-like widgets!!
Still in works
Got everything mostly fixed... hmmmm...

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how to go about converting it into an sd card, and might not be able to maintain both as often. If someone with the knowledge can send me a pm with the info, I'll look into it as a possibility when I have a little more time.

Damn, dude! Good job. With as much custom work as you've done, no wonder you've ran into problems integrating my work.
Looks awesome so far

does the market work for world wide with tablet options ?
Never mind ...
though just installed this, very nice work and so far impressed
How do I install Honeycomb icons & fonts? I have unzipped them in the root of my sdcard already.

Thanks! You helped me get up to speed on the framework repacking and stuff, so thank you! Sorry for all the q's on the latest release, I really wanted to incorporate it.

This is not Honeycomb, but a Honeycomb themed Froyo build with some enhancements for a tablet like experience

The fonts are all there, your clock should have the Honeycomb clock look on the lockscreen. To utilize the icon pack, download Desktop Visualizer from Market and select the images to correspond to applications installed. I was going to incorporate this by default, but wanted to keep it clean.
Hi mikegonz,
As I said before great job with this. I just installed this to my SDcard and really liking it. Would you mind if I prepped a flashable zip to SDcard via the method on my thread and post it there to share with everyone?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=998861
Edit: I could also prep a NookieCombv0330_SD.img file as well if you would like to post it to your OP.
Only revision I made was:
-Edit ramdisk to boot of SD
-Launcherpro_backup already restored
-Edit vold.fstab to use 4th partition of SDcard
Thanks,
Racks
thank you
I flash the rom and it is very nice but it does not read my SD card. Do you know of a way to fix this? I love the rom!!

No not at all, by all means! That'll give people an option to flash to SD card. I'll post a link to your post/link here once you have it.

The SDcard should work right on boot up. Make sure the sdcard is inserted correctly, then go to Settings->Sd card and phone storage. If mounted, unmount the Sd card, then Mount again. This should fix any issue with being unable to read.

Thanks,

Was playing with this a little bit last night. Pretty snappy overall. One thing though, the NI keyboard you mentioned showed up in the language and keyboard setting, but I couldn't seem to enable it and it wasn't enabled by default.

Goto laucher pro settings and choose "restore backup"
Make sure the unzipped folder is in the root of your SDcard
I've downloaded and applied a few themes from this thread (applied via cm7 Theme Chooser), but for some reason the themes only change the phone's appearance partially. In the screenshots for example, you've got a new lockscreen, the market is different and the main dock is a different colour. But when I apply these themes, none of those change, nor do I know how to change them. No option to do so in the settings of ADW nor CM7 menu...
Am I doing something wrong?

you should look thru the post the lock screen changes are usually zip files and wont work cause they are mdpi and i think we are hdpi you can reaserch it im pretty sure but i could be wrong thats also why the rest of the themes dont work if you want to ask you should ask the thread you pulled the themes from
Try to make a reboot after aplying a theme. Mine are all working great.

No, I think our device is mdpi, because hdpi themes don't work. I also tried to reboot but it didn't help... I dunno...
Eh...
- first of all, reboot is required after changing themes, unless you use Notification Restart app
- second, this device is MDPI obviously, Google it
- additional mods, such as the lockscreen, do require patching of framework via MetaMorph or ZipThemer. This can only be done on deodexed ROMs. mik's ROM is not deodexed by default, you need to deodex and reflash it yourself.

1. I use notification restart app.
2. Isn't that what I just said?
2. I didn't know that, but I have already used MetaMorph to change the lockscreen.

Well, that obviously will not work correctly, as explained. Best case it will bail out, worst case it will mess up the files.
P.S. I sincerely do NOT advise to use the MetaMorph app, since it does not backup anything, and the way it patches and "reboots" the device is just a nice WTF. ZipThemer is way safer and way more controllable.

Well as I understand it only messes with the lockscreen files, so even if someone manages to mess everything up with it, it's easy to fix.
But thanks, I'll try ZipThemer instead

It can mess up anything from framework-res.apk to SystemUI.apk to Phone.apk to overwriting your system fonts (big thumbs down to Android font "management") and even more - all depending on the scope of customization done in the mod.
ZipThemer:
1/ Shows you exactly which files will be modified.
2/ Makes a flashable backup of them.
3/ Makes a flashable ZIP for the mod.
4/ Does not half-reboot your device, making you wonder WTH is going on.
I know it seems like such a noob question, but I am a noob to the EVO 3D and I have tried a couple times to download and install a couple themes and cannot figure out what to do. I have installed a couple themes via the .apk but there are a couple that have icons and other things that I want. Can anyone coach me on how to do this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The Theme will only change the colors of anything that is stock HTC. Some of the screenshots you see for the themes on here also have root which allows you to download what is called a ROM that allows you to change all of the settings such as the notification bar at the top and settings along those lines.
What icons are you talking about?
This is for the twrp recovery. I don't use cwm.
First make sure the theme is compatible with your rom. Second download the theme and place it on your sd and remember what folder its in. If you don't move it the theme should be located in sdcard\download folder. Next power your phone down. Then boot into recovery. Then make a nand backup of your rom incase something gets screwed up. Or if you have a good nand already made then skip that step but I highly recommend it. Next in twrp choose the "wipe" selection, then wipe cache and davlik cache. Then go back to the main menu. Then choose the "install zip" selection. Then using the volume rocker scroll down to your \download folder. Once you have it highlighted press the top power button to access the folder. Then find the zip you download "the theme" and highlight it, then press power to flash the zip. When done go back to the main menu and choose reboot system. You should boot up and see your new theme applied. Hope this helps. Take in mind you have to be rooted and running a custom rom or have the stock rom rooted. Keep in mind what version of sense your running as well because 2.3.3 themes won't work on 2.3.4 roms and vice versa, the same goes for add on's as well.
Pm me or reply here if you run into any obstacles trying to flash a theme. Good luck.
Locked & Loaded
""Shooter on Deck""
i have a g925f and i've flashed a few roms from custom to original samsung
for the last few times the "themes" icon is nowhere to be found in the settings page
however in the running services, it shows that themes is running
both dirctories in system/priv with themes in them are there,
can anyone give me an idea how to retrieve the app, there are many good themes in the themes stores but without the icon i just don't know how to download them and install these themes
much appreciated for your help
sincerely
Same problem here...right after I updated to Marshmallow. Icon is gone from everywhere and I can no longer access them!
solution
you MUST DISABLE the easy launcher
go into settings/applications/default applications - select the easy mode, reboot
go back to the same spot and this time select "regular" mode in order to fully disable easy
the themes button will come back - also this area's buttons can be edited to select any other setting
whereas if you do not disable the easy mode , themes button is gone and you cannot edit this settings section
btw - no one in this site gave an answer.
