HP Bluetooth keyboard remapping - TouchPad General

Has anyone remapped the HP BT Keyboard? In android there are a good amount of "do-nothing" keys and I was hoping to remap them to get full use out of the keyboard. I did a quick google search and it seems that there is a way to do it. I think I may be capable of doing this too, but it may take awhile so before I do it I wanted to be sure that no one else has done so (don't want to duplicate efforts). If no one has, then I will probably get started right after Christmas (got finals next week). Well, let me know. Thanks.

Well, I am using Xron, but that is CM7 based, so I would assume the file would be the same. I would appreciate checking out your file. Thank you very much

I would like this file as well. Thanks!

I just posted this same question over at rootzwiki! any progress. I know what im supposed to modify, but I cant find the .kl to modify.

http://code.google.com/p/cmtouchpad/issues/detail?id=73 there you go

Changed the file to get the media keys working.
(Rename to HP_TouchPad_Wireless_Keyboard.kl)
I put previous/next onto the keys. If you like rewind/fast forward just change the lines: key 168 MEDIA_PREVIOUS key 164 MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE key 208 MEDIA_NEXT into key 168 MEDIA_REWIND key 164 MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE key 208 MEDIA_FAST_FORWARD

Thank you sir. Is this to say I don't need to modify the existing qwerty.kl? Will the keyboard be looking for this file automatically?
Sent from my Touchpad using xda premium

It does use the file here on cm7.I didn't touch the original files.
You have to reboot to get changes made on the kl file...

OK, thanks again. I modified my original qwerty.kl file, but of corse made a backup of the original . I think I ll restore he backup and just try your file.

[MOD][07.26.11]Power to Search Button or Camera to Search[All AOSP and TW blds]

With inspiration from thadedudebutch regarding this THREAD. I used to use "screen off" app to put device asleep with DI01. But something in DJ05 broke it. But figured out that "POWER" is an acceptable command within the KL file. Tap of search button turns device to standby (with no 5 sec delay like all of the apps on the market) and long press of search button brings up power shut down options. Flash via cwm. If you don't like it flash the revert file below.
This works with DJ05/DL09 and should be no problem with DI01.
*Edit* This has been confirmed to work with ED01 and all roms (froyo)
*Edit* Edify zips Added. And don't forget edify zips can be used with CWM2.5 and 3.
*Edit* Added seperate versions of this mod for aosp builds (aosp, CM7, MIUI, OMGB, and OMFGB)
And this can only be used for shutting down or putting device to sleep. The search button will not wake device up.
And this is meant for the Verizon Fascinate. Others may try at their own risk. I accept no responsibility mistakes or borked devices.
*Bonus for comm rom 1.3 users in the quote*
djlim4 said:
btw, the power remap will also take pictures with the search button... i guess cuz the comm rom has the power button mapped for camera function. anyway thought that was pretty cool

*Edit* Had someone in irc request for the Camera to be opened from the search button. Updated thatdudebutch's mod from here to edify zip. The search key can be used to open the camera and also be used as a shutter button (long press to focus and release to shoot) or simply just push the search to snap picture. And once again use revert file from below to undo changes.
*AOSP Note* Since this mod mirrors the the command of the power button it may or may not work as a shutter button depending upon the features and or settings of the camera apk for that build.
*****You only have the choice of camera or power. They can't be used together.
*****Zips are intended to be installed with proper recovery.
Use edify.zip for Touch Wiz based roms.
Use AOSP.zip for (CM7, MIUI, AOSP, OMFGB, and OMGB)
Thanks, thatdudebutch for getting the gears turnin' in the old noggin.
Thanks, zantopad for DL09 testing and confirmation.
Thanks, LOLFests for the hours of sweaty t-shirtless testings and confirmation of edify zips.
Thanks, to Me for testing edify zips with CWM2.5
Thanks to dw77x an InPocket for AOSP build testings.
good day.
Thanks for this! I now use this more than the dedicated power button!

It appears to at a small price . App Here. I guess for someone looking for some deeper modifications they can go that route. But this is just something I've always incorporated in my own private roms and if others like having just the mod without a having a paid app running than this is the way to go .

Auto brightness

Does anyone know what files in the framework (I'm guessing) need to be edited to adjust the auto brightness settings?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
values/arrays.xml in framework-res.apk. you'll see the brightness levels towards the bottom of the xml
Thanks, but I don't see a values folder. Or even an arrays.xml in any folder.

you have to decompile the apk first. You have to use apktool to decompile it. It is a process. http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
Once you decompile the apk.. you'll see the Values folder with the xml files.
follow the instructions from the above link. After installing the required tool files, install the framework file (there is instructions on how to do that in the link).. and then decompile the framework-res.apk file.
or use apk manager
Ok, I'll try that, I can pretty much only use my computer at work for internet so I'll have to do that when I get home. I have both of those on my computer already. Thanks.
More info here, but for a different phone.
Alright, so I've found and edited the file. But when I try to put back on the framework my phone won't boot. I've never really had good luck with these apk programs. I've tried it with and without signing. I've tried it with and without deleting the resources.arsc file. And I've tried adb pushing and trying it in a zip file. Anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Should I maybe use a different compression level? I'm out of ideas. Thanks.
BAMF roms have auto brightness tweaked.
Keep in mind though, it does have some side effects, such as slow to resume to correct brightness if you tap the screen when it dims, just before shutting off.

Yeah, your ROMs and and Perfect Storm ROMs is where I got the idea. I'm trying to learn about these things. I have my framework set up in a way that I really like it for now, on your Stripped ROM. I've been trying to get this thing set up exactly how I like it. For now I just want to adjust that and then figure out 1 or 2 other things, then I think I'm set. The only other thing I can think of right now is the text color in the pulldown menu.
Hey adrynalyne. I'm sorry for being an ass over on the GPS thread. Will you please come back.
I just have the stomach flue and I was wrong to be so dismissive. If you can help us, please come back. I'll answer all the questions you want to ask without being a smartass.
It looks like the app you recommended worked for some already, and if you know how to sort though a logcat for android, you are much better suited to help than anyone so far (including myself by far..)

Look for freeza's post. He did this quite a while ago.
i have a method but u will need root to do it.download this zip. using a root file manager of choice, go to the download and extract it. now go to the extracted folder open it and copy the 50dimleds. now navigate to system\etc\init.d and paste. be sure to give correct r/w permission. reboot and watch your new dimmed soft keys.
hit my thanks if i helped.

[HOW TO] Enable soft keys on Droid DNA CM10.1

THIS INCLUDES MODIFYING BUILD.PROP AND SYNAPTICS-RMI-TOUCHSCREEN.KL SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKUPS!!
I thought i might share this to everyone since i tested it and it works nicely for me so far
1) Go to your build.prop using root explorer or any app that allows access to system files
2) Go to the bottom of the file, and enter the following without the quotes "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP IN CASE SOMETHING DOESNT WORK OUT)
3) Find "Synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl" located at (system>usr>keylayout) that controls the capacitive keys. Delete everything by editing it with a text editor
4) Reboot and you should have softkeys with the capacitive ones disabled
*I used this app http://goo.gl/JUWqs to disable the capacitive lights*
**If you wish to kepp the capacitive keys enabled skip step 3**
**to Reverse this just replace the build.prop with your backup and replace your Synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl with your backup**
Enjoy
This would be great in conjunction with enabling some gestures in the capacitive area a la WebOS

Okay, so on any jelly bean device with soft keys, pushing up from the home soft key brings up a little ring with google now on it. Is there any way to enable this functionality with the hardware keys? It's kind of weird having both hardware and soft keys but I really like this functionality.
Any way to shrink the height of the nav bar? It's a bit too tall for my liking.
Been trying to get this to work on pacman... Should it be any different?

That's odd. I was able to disable the lights. I have my PAC-Rom on Phablet mode. The app allowed me to shut them off and I was wondering, now that we got soft keys, I kinda want to cover the capacitive light with like, tape or something so I don't have to constantly look at them. haha, did any of you guys do anything to cover them or were just like whatever about it?

[Q]Activating onscreen keys and disabling capacitive keys.

So after a little bit of tinkering, I've managed to get M8-esque software keys on my One Max. Now I have set about disabling the capacitive home/back keys, but for the life of me, cannot manage to shut them off...does anyone happen to know the file that I need to edit?
Undertake the following AT YOUR OWN RISK, when it comes to ripping out this kind of stuff I HAVE ENOUGH TROUBLE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY OWN ACTIONS, LET ALONE YOURS, THEREFORE, I WON'T.
UPDATE: For anyone interested in getting the keys disabled, I managed to finally get them off by using root explorer to edit the contents of:
- system/usr/keylayout/max1187x_touchscreen_0.kl
- system/usr/keylayout/himax.touchscreen.kl
- system/usr/keylayout/synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl
All contents of these files were backed up and deleted. Reboot and enjoy!
(I'd tried #ing them, and deleting the contents individually, but it only seems to work when ALL are blanked, someone who actually knows what they're doing can probably clarify if this is overkill)

Well I suspect what made it so very easy was the fact that I was on the 4.4/Sense 6 M8 port that Flyhalf posted a few weeks ago. Since it was an M8 port, I just assumed they'd be hidden in there.
You can get them up with a text edit, or you can go the easy route and use

I have no idea if this would work on stock One Max ROMs, but it's worth a shot.

Restart the Android system wait for it to optimize apps and profit LOL... That's a somewhat permanent solution unless you reverse the method

Hmm, I've been looking into gravitybox, but I can't seem to find any option to completely disable the hardware keys. I do see how I can map double and long presses, but nothing for just general presses. (Although if I could define the length of a long press at a laughably short time, e.g. 1ms, then assign no long press function.....that could be a janky way of getting the job done)
