Hi everybody.
I was wondering, why the sgs2 stock browser is so smooth? I've got the lg o2x and, although the hardware is similar the browser is more laggy (also with cm7 and 1.2ghz overclock). Is it because of the hardware, the samsung firmware optimization or just the browser.apk of the galaxy that is better?
Moreover, is it so smooth also with cm7 or just with stock firmware?
Thanks for replies
The stock Samsung browser is hardware accelerated, which is what makes it smooth

if u overclock it will work(i think)
As there is no flash version that is fully compatible with our ARMv6 CPU, i'm quite sure it'll never run properly and without bugs as the actual version is compiled and optimized for other CPUs and their instruction-sets that the ACE's processor just can't handle.
Also browsing the internet might suck with flash as the web mainly consists of adds n ****.

Please can you help me find a good version for my galaxy with no lags?

In other words does it matter if your galaxy ace is old or new?
nopes, not for installing roms...
but if you wanna find out what you had originally, it might be helpful. if its pretty old you may be talking about a version of froyo - android 2.2 that you found snappier.

Try flash with your latest region baseband.. Then flash stable rom and observe, test all apps you always used specially in your daily usage apps. If you got laggy again then try cm7. some devs of cm7 says it was not for daily rom.. But for me i used it as my daily even in my business. Also newbie guide by emoboiix3 is very helpful.

Do you have some widget on home screen like Fancy Widget or any other widget that includes big clock?
I had the same problem od every ROM based on Gingerbread but problem dissapeared after I removed Fancy Widget.

Nothing is smooth as GB.
I agree, stock ICS sucks. But if you try the ROM attached to my sig, you'll see how much smoother the real ICS is

Noticed this too, but as we're still at the very first of the plethora of ICS roms to come, I doubt it'll stay like this forever. I'm strongly considering going back to GB just for the super smooth browser.
Try Custom Rom buddy..
Now One of the best custom ROM is the AOKP.. smooth like butter..
The Browser also custom very well..
Agree with zoule HCo.
If you like GB, go back to GB.
ICS feels and looks better to me, but again it depends on the ROM and tweaks you use.

It's possible to force to 60FPS to the entire operating system? (like an iPhone)
I agree! Browser in GB was absolutely amazing! It was the smoothest browser of all GB phones! Now in ICS is laggy
I m using ICS and see no difference between GB and ICS browser. As said above it all depend on your Rom , Tweaks or even your browser itself. Personaly i have Wanamlite as Rom and Chrome/Maxthon as browser and have absolutly no lags, all is smooth and fast .
Had pretty same result with stock ICS Rom befor trying a custom one.

Maybe you don't know how to appreciate the difference.
Try to drag any image in the browser (without lifting your finger off the screen) and compare it with GB or iPhone.
It's all true about the ICS launcher. Pretty unfortunate that the newest software is not the smoothest.
We will have to wait for full hardware acceleration in future official ICS roms.
I am on xwlp8 and it is really great. Terrific battery and signal strenght but nothing beats the smoothness of the xwla4 browser. Sad but true.

Well, today is 11th july and we still have this problem!
I think that at Samsung they forgot how to work with Android!
It's impossible that the SGS2 had a super smooth browser since the first version of GB, since when it was released, and now, after 1 year, they made it laggy with micro stutters! Congratulations Samsung! I expected a fix with 4.0.4, but NO! Congratulations again Samsung!
Hi,
I'm fairly new to the community and to the aspect of modding my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 (YP-G70) US.
I've done a great deal of searching for my answers but no results yet. I need to speed this up so I'm asking for your help!
My Device's History:
Stock: Gingerbread OS
Current: CM9's ICS (CyanOgen)
Everything worked perfectly fine on Stock but I got bored and wanted to explore my options and see just what features I was missing out on.
Besides, I feel any Android device should rightfully be able to update to the latest firmware, much like Apple's IOS or Sony's PSP (I think I just dated myself).
I absolutely love CM9 but it has two very fatal (and apparently common) flaws:
Broken Camera
No Hardware Acceleration
These are two huge problems for me as I depend on my camera to record life's precious moments; I'm huge on that.
Google Chrome requires Hardware Acceleration or it will just display white screens and nothing more. So I'm missing out on what I see as the best browser.
My Question: What is the best ROM out there for this device (YP-G70) that includes a working Camera and Hardware Acceleration?
If you can at least provide me this, I'm fairly certain I can figure out the rest.
Thanks very much for any input, I look forward to getting to know this community!
(The App is AMAZING!)

GingerBread doesn't have HW Acceleration on any ROM?
I've grown attached to the ICS look. Are there any GB ROMs out there that have the ICS theme? I'm strongly considering Chip v1.5, any thoughts or recommendations?
I'm also noticing some ROMs don't include a kernel. Which kernel is best for my device? I thought "Daily Driver" was the right one (US) but I have the dedicated hard-home button so it advises an International kernel instead...which makes no sense. And I can't find another kernel so far. Any thoughts?
I guess I'm trying to optimize my YP-G70 whilst trying to maintain an ICS look. Is that possible?
Edit: What do you think of Chip v1.5 ROM + rj's custom kernel for my YP-G70(US)? Seems to work for me, is it the recommended build or..?
Chip's is slim and stylish. It's my daily ROM and it's fantastic. If you have the Int'l version with the physical home button, the you should use rj's kernel. If you have the capacitative home button, then you need Entropy''s kernel. The nice thing about rj's is that you'll be able to enable linux swap.

Based on a wiki about the device, if your model name is YP-G70 you have the US version. Yet I have dedicated buttons instead and "Daily Driver" kernel wouldn't work for me, so do I have International version?

Yea, I'm liking Chip ROM so far. Could use an overhaul and make it look more like ICS. Though I can't complain too much..
I'll just give up on Chrome then if it's that bad.
Thanks for all the help everyone~
If you like the ICS look and feel, you could always try IcyFusion, a gingerbread-based rom with an ICS theme. Unfortunately, it's no longer being developed, and the last version has to be flashed via Odin, and I could never get it to install properly (though other people have, apparently).
Another option is to install a third party launcher that has ICS themes available for it (GO Launcher was my favorite).
Finally, if you really like ICS, you could just wait for somebody to get the drivers working on it. I know a couple of devs are well on their way to getting the camera working, and bluetooth has already been fixed (though some people are still experiencing bugs and glitches from the patch).
For the 5.0 , Chip 1.5.1 is the best ROM by far , very smooth , fast , camera and HW acc. Works. Also some gameloft games seem to be not working on ICS Roms like Asphalt 6 , so thats another reason to be with GB till we get a fully working ICS/ JB ROM.

It's not quite as simple as that. The number YP-G70 refers to the SGP 5.0 that was generally released to Western markets.
However, the North American version has all capacitive buttons. The European/non-North American Version (aka - International) has a physical home button.
I have the Korean version labeled YP-GB70.
It is identical to the International version (YP-G70) in appearance. I believe the camera is the only difference.
The Korean version has a 5.0megapixel camera.
In short, if you have a North American model, you need entropy512's kernel. If you have an international or Korean model you need rj's kernel!
Stock-based only
If you want a ROM with full HW Acceleration and fully working camera, you will need a stock based ROM. The best of these is probably the Eryigit ROM.

Yes. HW acceleration (not to be confused with GL in games) didn't exist until Honeycomb (but of course our player doesn't have that), and we don't have kernel support for it in ICS so far.
However, since ICS/CM10 doesn't have camera working, you're kinda stuck. But GB doesn't really need acceleration, so you'll probably be fine there if you need a camera.

It isn't. It has good battery life; the camera seems to work. Of couse, the quality isn't all that good, but, fact is, the camera works (at least, for me it did).
Chip ROM [GB]
If you want a stable ROM and good quality in terms of camera, i suggest Chip ROM [GIngerbread].

Also it has no major bugs.
hi... I've tried a few ROMs as well but the issue is that in some ROMs the camera doesn't work.
Can someone please recommend a good fast ROM which lets the camera work...
my 2 cents
If you need high quality pictures using the camera, then you must go with a gingerbread ROM, like Chip, Erygits, or REDD. Jellybean ROMS are faster and the camera works using 3rd party apps, but the pictures are much lower in quality, in my humble opinion.
