I got adw ex when it was on sale for 10 cents because I saw in the pictures that it was optimized for tablets but when I use it its just The normal one.
Is it it possible to make It be on tablet mode?
Thanks
might be because tablet mode is for honeycomb.

build.prop only tells what hardware you're running android on, afaik..
faking HC wouldnt change much, as HC-optimized apps call HC apis.. which do not exist in GB.. so even if you could fake your version of android.. when the software tries to call upon features not existing in your current version.. I'd expect a bunch of errors and fcs which probably renders whatever software you tried to run unusable..?
feel free to correct my marginal knowledge anyone

I'm with you on that one or at least one that could nicely upscale for higher resolution screens like ours.
change pixel density then?
Anyone tried VTL.Launcher from here on xda? Based on ADW's source code, but has been made for tablets. Works on phones, but mad for tabs

hi all just a quick question about the archos 101 i just got mine in the post
is there a alternative rom that i can flash to it as i find the archos one quite laggy, if not what would happen if i installed the oxygen gingerbread one i have on my htc desire on it ?
thanks
Estevey
to solve the lag, install the latest firmware from archos.com
in settings/about device/powermanagement, set the cpu to overboost.
and install/use Zeam launcher.
you cant use a desire rom.

This is exactly what I did and it runs well for me. I still have some issues with it not coming out of standby after being left a while but for the most part this makes it an easy to use fun tablet. I am not that concerned with quadrant scores or creating some ultra powerful tablet. I was ready to throw it out when the firmware came out. Firmware + Zeam work excellent and now I use it everyday.
i did this still not as fast and smooth as a HTC desire which i thought it would be or better than
still happy with it and cant wait till some custom roms are released for it
would rooting it make any difference to the performance and running the ext4 on a sd card ?
I have an HTC Desire as well as my Archos 101.
The desire has more than double the ram of the 101, its bound to be more responsive
I think the 101 is very nippy to be honest once you set it on overboost and install Zeam. Also turning off live wallpapers and uninstalling (or not installing) voice search sped mine up a lot.
Give try to or maybe switch to.....
To all tablet lovers,
In fairness to you guys, I heard a lot of issues of the Archos 101. Since it has a single core processor. No wonder the performance is getting slow. Samsung has the same processor, but it has only 7" screen compare to 10". Nvidia Tegra 2 core is on rocks in the market tablets right now, aiming for the new OS (honeycomb). Give a try to Viewsonic Gtab...it worth for the price of 16Gb.
almost all release 'issues' with the 101 were sorted by the latest firmware update. Its now stable, pretty quick and great value for money.
the viewsonic is a good ptablet but the firmware sucks still, so im glad I went for the archos 101 to be honest.
I'd love a dual core tablet, and know that the gen8 archos tablets may never see android 2.3 let alone 3.0, but I bought the 101 knowing that it would run 2.2 and 99% of the apps out NOW, so I'm happy.
you cant get a better tablet for the money right now if you ask me.

+1 I love my 101!!!
well i have sorted mine out !
i did reinitialization of the device and installed no 3rd party applications (i think this was the main slow down) then i bumped the cpu to overdrive in the about in settings and the big one here that made all the difference was disabling the eye candy (animation) which makes no odds if your going to install zeam which i did and the market
i am now very happy with the archos 101 and have no complaints after hearing some of the horror stories with the china alternatives.
all i need to do now is find a key bored that i am happy with also a updated version on zeam and i will be chuffed to pices
Steve
have you tried swiftkey or thumb keyboard (set it to 10" tablet mode), both are great alternatives to the stock one.
swiftkey are releasing a tablet version of their keyboard soon as well.
you say you disabled the animation...? where did you do that specifically?
cheers.

I agree with you with NO questions, Stock OS is sucks! But there are 5 ROMS to choose (TnT, Zpad, Vegan, CM and Ubuntu) for you to tweak to get your Gtab into beast. Many of ARCHOS user tryinh to tweak too to get the tablet to its maximum performance right? Visit the forum once in Gtablet and you will see great good Developers and never ending supports.
to disable animations simply go to settings and select animation then no animation it relay makes a BIG difference to the device'

Am not trying to argue with you guys, but lets face the reality...My first choice is Archos 101, i've been waiting for more than a month for my order, but its no luck. In my opinion Archos company is delaying the shipment, till i cancelled my order. My question is WHY? Maybe they still trying to fix those issues? I observe at the Gtab forum, and read those supports, issues, etc...and what a good community of developers. Thats why i convinced to get the Gtablet. But still i gonna buy the Archos 101 once it available in market (retailers). Am still a fans of Archos, but what a shame, Gtablet is on the rocks right now. Technically wise and supports.
Try to visit this forum just once if you have time..

I love the Archos too have the 101. In the beginning I had problems and had to reset it twice but now it's running good. My EVO has double the ram but this is a decent tablet for what I want. I just unchecked that animation thing to see if it makes a difference. Not even sure what it does. I also had to uninstall Volice Search it really slowed me down and messed me up. Yahoo Messenger and Video messed me up too. I had a couple other apps not work but playing Word Feud and Angry Birds is great on here. I use it to surf the web and do facebook mostly and get some of my emails. I am glad I bought it.
I read up on tablets before hand and at first considered the Gtab but I am not into rooting and all that don't know how. I also had an older Archos 605 MP3/Video player wifi from way back when I Pod Videos 1st came out and I really like Archos. I love having the market place on here and my calendar being synced.
Now that is possible the development of this awesome phone, think that is possible to port Honeycomb from an AOSP rom instead of any 2.X.X rom? It has DualCore support, HighRes and Xoom and Atrix has very similar hardware.
Sorry for my English.

well true, its nice to have a variety though.
I believe the op meant, to port honeycomb to the atrix as the main os instead of porting 2.3.4 in the form of lets say cyanogenmod. And what he wrote is very smart, due to the fact that honeycomb has a way better dual core and opengl support than 2.3.4 and it should not be the hardest, since the xoom really is very similar to the atrix regarding the hardware, esp now with the unlocked bootloader.
HC was not built for phones, is not meant for phones, has never shipped on a phone & will NEVER be for phones. It is optimized for large screen devices (tablets). Gingerbread is currently the highest Android meant for phones. Fragmentation was an issue discussed @ IO this year.. They announced a re fragmentation if you will.. GB + HC = ICS
Froyo - phones + other devices
Gingerbread - phones + other devices
Honeycomb - Optimized for TABLETS ONLY - NOT FOR PHONES
Ice Cream Sandwich - phones + tablets
If you don't like calls or sms go right ahead.

Maybe you are right, but I think that you are wrong.
And ICS (aka 2.4.X) can't be better on tablets than Honeycomb (aka 3.X.X).

You say "TABLETS ONLY" but do you actually know what that means?
All it'll mean is standard apps are all re-skinned to make use of a larger screen and things like the dialer/phone settings are removed. We already know that HC just scales the GUI of apps which don't have a specific tablet version. It's no mystery.
Do you really think Google would spend money forking Android and all the improvements made in HC when they know they have to be merged with phone functionality again? If I were them I'd make it as easy as possible to re-implement the dialer and phone-related functionality later.
I think the best option for a honeycomb rom (at least until ICS is out) would be:
1. Use the Xoom honeycomb base so we get all the various Tegra drivers and kernel+modules required which is the important bit (as well as the HC source not being available).
2. Replace any tablet-specific apps to Gingerbread equivalents (plus some skinning if necessary so it's all uniform).
3. Add phone-specific things back in (dialer, sms etc)
3. Make it report as a GB build so that the market only downloads phone/small-screen versions of apps.
I think the main interest in this is getting the better dual-core handling and more specifically, improved hardware acceleration which is already on the Xoom to the Atrix which are very similar hardware-wise.
Best of both worlds
EDIT: Just had a geez at the Xoom forums and they've got SMS going as well as SIP calling which is getting close!
as i see people saying its not compatible, wasnt this ported to the G1? the nexus one? LOL. maybe im talking about honeycomb? idk
Also I would like to remember, If you change honeycomb's DPI you will get "gingerbread" style launcher and everything.
Cheers
Im sure talented devs could "port" some features or some such things from HC, but the FACT remains:
HC was not built for phones, is not meant for phones, has never shipped on a phone & will NEVER be for phones. It is optimized for large screen devices (tablets). Gingerbread is currently the highest Android meant for phones. Fragmentation was an issue discussed @ IO this year.. They announced a re fragmentation if you will.. GB + HC = ICS
Do some research for yourself.
And to the guy that asked me "Do you know what tablets only means?" Well yes I do, I own one for starters, and apparently I have a better understanding of what one is than you. Yes I know tablets look like just a big phone, but do not assume phones/tablets do all the same things with the same apps on the same sw/fw. Please take some time to read about them for yourself and understand that software and apps may not be compatible across phones/tablets running the same or similar OS, this is true for software and apps on both Android and iOS. Do this reading and first.
Then, if you can find a phone with HC being ported to it, PLEASE share it with us here. Also notice you will find NOT ONE PHONE IN THE WORLD IS BEING SHIPPED WITH HONEYCOMB, because it is not for phones. You need to do some simple Google searches and help yourself to a few wiki pages because you are sounding like a fn moron.

Two things.
The first: you are an idiot.
Second: you think that you are Google only by reading 2 another idiots talking about their dreams for ICS. Everyplace says that ICS will be 2.4. And really, you need to read more, you don't know anything (Y).
Now no more trolling here, we are talking about Honeycomb on Atrix. Anyone that wants Android 11.99.99 go to your own thread.

From what I remember reading a while back, Google said they were not going to release the source for Honeycomb 3.0. If that's the case, that really puts a damper on porting it over to any phone.
Last I checked, 3.0's source has not been released.
As Sources became available - anyone know if there are efforts besides theming honeycomb to atrix?
E.g. Porting libs or even build from source?
Hi
I have a touchpad with cm7 a2.1 and love it. Not many issues
I love it so much I have thought well would a new tab made with android in mind give me more?
I know it would have honeycomb so I could have some HD apps which doesn't concern me much I'm more thinking hardware and speed
Would I get a faster tab with a better screen?
I love my touchpad I love CM but I want more now lol
Would a new tab do that for me or not really. Please forgive my ignorance

The high-end tablets, I suspect, would give better resolution and native Honeycomb. But do you need those? For <$300, I think the Touchpad is the best you can get...it's better, overall, than a friend's stock $700 Toshiba
For a second, I thought about the possibility of having just CM7 on the TouchPad.
Or possibly just CM9 when it comes out. The next tablet I was looking into getting was the Samsung Galaxy 7.0.
What do you think?
I managed to sell my touchpad for 400 in the caribbean.
I'll get a transformer prime.
It was good while it lasted.
That's excellent- how did you do that?

I would pass. Hardware wise, existing Honeycomb tablets are on par with the touchpad (In fact, the HTC Jetstream which just came out has the EXACT SAME CPU as the touchpad), only notable improvement being a slightly higher screen resolution (1024x768 vs 1280x800). For now they might provide a better user experience since they have hardware accelerated honeycomb while we have an alpha of software rendered Gingerbread, but that will all change with CM9/ICS.
The question is not is any other tablet better, but is it £$400-600 better?

you have a touchpad. It will get better and better and all you have to do is wait. CM7 alpha 3 is right around the corner fixes the worst of the issues with alpha2 . ICS will be out around January. Once we get ICS,the to will be as good as any of its competition. The touchpad has solid hardware,we are just waiting on software and the cm team is doing an amazing job.
The Archos G9 is pretty cheap.
Actually I just went town and brought my HP TouchPad with me. I tried every single tablet- the Kindle Fire, the iPad 2, and the Blackberry Playbook- all the Droids- and none of them were as good as the TouchPad.
I have a video if you want to see it.
Please do upload the video for us, thank you
but is it sure we will get ICS for Touchpad? did the CM team announce it quite official?

There is also the early adopter clause for the tegra3 systems, too.. ;-)

That is said to hear. It seems like a great tablet for the price and its 1 inch bigger than most in its price range. You would think it would have a bigger market. I got mainly for image review via efy-fi with my photography clients which does work so I might just keep it because the 8 inch size and 4:3 ratio Plus HDMI to the monitor in my studio is a plus.
if you own an unrooted vtab the first thing you should get is "go launcher" it free from the market it lets you have a normal widget board not the split one from vizo where the app are in one place and the widget board in another
^ Definitely. This whole interface Vizio is doing is terrible. GoLauncher is nearly required!

I doubt anyone would remember an app called "symot draw SMS.". It worked on the symbian os v2 (s60v2) and I installed it in my n72 which I still use today! I never found anything similar in any later phone OS.
the app made it possible to draw black and white low Res pics to be sent as SMS. nowadays it makes less sense but still many people where I live don't use internet in their phones. for them an app like that would be very appreciated.
so can anyone make such an app? or point me to one?
there would be a substantial market for such an unexplored territory I guess if its possible.
any comments?
P.S. the stock android keyboard is awful. swift key trial was so good!
