[Q] Galaxy Tab p1000 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have a P1000 running an Arabic ROM as bought duty free in Dubai. I live in uk. I have managed to change the Sales area to allow Android market to be installed as banned under XSS. Upgraded to Gingerbread but of course the underlying ROM is still arabic so I have many unneeded apps such as Quran etc... not sure which apps im missing from a UK ROM either.
I have previous owned many windows phones mainly XDA's and have flashed many ROM's etc....I am aware all come with issues and functions that dont work fully and involve an element of risk.
Im looking for a UK ROM that is stable (more important that speed for me), by stable I mean all functions working and non-crashing/freezing etc.... BTW im never going to use this as a phone so have no issue have a non-sim ROM either if necessary (I only use Wifi).
I would appreciate some advice regarding which ROM's to look into and how the process on these devices work from start to finish.
Many thanks
Darren

Any chance to get 10.1v compatibility

Hey !
I'm loving my 10.1v but as this tab's owners will tell you, we are not well treated by Samsung and/or Vodafone and have to rely on xda to get up-to-date ROMS.
ROMS are not many, two or three mainly...not that we need much more but you can tell it will never be a much-filled section. Unless...
...I was wondering if there is any way to work on a 10.1 ROMS compatibility. To be more specific (and I'm asking to devs here, or people skilled in the dev field) : what is exactly needed to make that compatibility come true, if that is possible in any way ?
Our two or three ROMS are based on P7500XXKG7 and P7500XWKHD ROMS. I would love to know what is needed to port those ROMS and how could we turn this in an automated process in order to allow 10.1 to 10.1v compatibiliy...
I may be dreaming here but hey, I have an HTC HD2 as a daily phone, so to me, everything is possible...

Market Concerns.....

I've kind of grown tired of not having full access to the market recently because my phone isn't supported. I've seen the other threads about tricking the market with a different country code and one other thread about changing some properties. My newbie question is, would any of that change if I went to a newer ROM? I've been running Nero v3 for over a year and have been really happy with the results so far. It has great battery life and it's also been very, very stable for me. Since it is a 2.2 ROM, I've been a little skeptical of changing to a 2.3+ ROM as I'm not entirely sure if I would need to ODIN back to stock and what other steps might be involved. I hope you guys understand my question in newbie terms, and hope to not get flamed in advance!! Have a great day guys....
It depends on what build.prop identifies your phone. It varies upon what the ron developer puts or you could modify yourself.
I think most of the newer GB ICS roms identify as i9000 jvt

You can do a Google search for an application called Market Unlocker. What it does is allow you to pay for and access applications from Android Market or Amazon Appstore from countries where paid apps are not available yet. Or you can find it on the marketplace Here

Well...this is new..

I usually stay up on devices, but my boss just bought a Galaxy Player 5.0, and I had never heard of the thing! And I OWN a Galaxy device...lol
He wants to know if I can do a few things to it;
1. Root (I know I can do that, there are ROMs in the dev section, which only exist w/ root I merely need to search for the root methods, I really don't need help with that)
2. Update to ICS (only if full functionality is there already, he doesn't want to lose any functions on his new device that he hasn't even taken the screen-sticker off of yet lol)
3. Make face-time phone calls/chat (I know I can make wi-fi calls with Groove IP, and maybe face-time with Qik, but wanted to confirm what the common methods were).
So on point 1 and 2, what is the difficulty/risks of rooting/flashing (being samsung, I figure this device is pretty straight-forward like other galaxy devices, but want an opinion from a user), you know this question is more device-specific (locked bootloaders, hboots, etc vary on each device, as well as methods, of course), I'm not looking on advice for rooting/not rooting as a noob
and on points 2 and 3, what are some opinions? Are the ICS ROMs complete...does Qik work for video chat? Is there an alternative to Qik, is there a preferred or most-advanced ICS ROM...basically I just don't have time to do this research myself on a device I don't own, I just want to be able to answer my boss' questions monday
Finally...is there anything particularly impressive that can be done with this device? A feature unique to the Galaxy Player only after it's rooted would be nice..or just standard root-access apps etc? (Obviously no wireless hotspot haha)
Any input would be useful to better my understanding!
Thanks!

1. You can root pretty easily. Here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424358
2. There are a couple of ICS ROMS, not fully functional. Bluetooth and Camera do not work, plus some other minor but significant bugs. Not yet flashable for my taste: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572835
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1638601
3. Skype usually works wonderfully.
This is the ROM I personally use for the Galaxy Player 5.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465144
This is the Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445840
And you overclock with this tool (mine works at 1.4, but it can be stable at 1.6): https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS50ZWdyYWsub3ZlcmNsb2NrLnVsdGltYXRlIl0.

I changed the DPI on this device from 240 to 200 (due to the low native resolution), and it looks a lot better that way. The downside it that you cannot download many apps from the Market, so you better apply that DPI after you download everything you need.
The GPS works even if you don't have an active wireless connection.
That's all I can remember now. I hope it helps.
Muchos gracias mi amigo
To clarify too, the GPS works without a wireless connection, but if you use it for offline navigation you have to download the maps before hand.
Yeah that's pretty standard, I had to do that on my Epic4G

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 and stability of Android 4.0.4 ICS

hello guys, at the moment i own an apple iphone 4 jailbroken, and i had some issues with the device's hardware since 2 years ago, so im thinking of selling it and get a new phone, BUT i DONT want to go at apple again, so 4S is not an option for me.
i searched a bit and im interested into Samsung Galaxy S III
about its hardware is a top end phone atm, but im a bit feared about the Android os because ive heard some bad things from friends users of lower end android phones. so im refering at you guys who own and use SGS3 with normal and rooted os to advice me about its stability over time and usage on apps
So my final question is, SGS3 with Android 4.0.4 ICS stock or rooted, did you have any problems with it? laggs on menus/apps over time of usage or crashes or reboots etc?
Cause with iphone 4 and ios jailbroken i had it for 2 years and i never encountered a single error or crash and never had to format it to stock firmware due to problem except when i was updating versions of ios.
thank you for your time guys
i look forward your replys to talk about it and find a conclusion

Hi,
I was in the exactly same position as you a few weeks ago.
My last phone was an iphone 4, too, and like you, I did not want to have an apple product anymore. So I went with the GS3 and I love it!
I have it rooted and installed a lot of stuff, works like a charm though!
Only problem I encountered is that I cannot install anything right now, keep having a bug with the app market... This is very uncomfortable, but I guess stuff like this happens. I might need to restore my phone to bypass this problem. But this is not limited to the GS3, it's a problem with android.
Otherwise Android is a high improvement compared to the iOS. I can now literally do anything I want. The Galaxy S3 runs smoothly, the battery usage is good in my opinion and it has a lot of power for complex programs.

Samsung Omnia i900, a Player Addict need a ROM...

Hello to all the XDA community. Before starting, I want to clarify that I am French, so I apologize for the possibly questionable translation by Google Translate.
As indicated in the title, my request concerns a very old smartphone model: the Samsung Omnia i900, or Player Addict in France. I come to you with a very specific request and, even if I have few illusions, I hope that someone can help me...
As the title of this file indicates, this is a Samsung Omnia i900 (Player Addict). At the time of the next Samsung S22, and despite its age, I am still using a copy that is almost 13 years old this year (I am 16) and which, as surprising as it may seem, still works wonderfully. I mention in passing that he took a little dip in the bathtub 10 years ago, but it's only a distant memory since he recovered on his own. I mainly use it as an MP3 player, the Web is closing itself more and more to it, but I'm so attached to it that I've embarked on a real restoration campaign, just to "update" it, if 'you can update an obsolete operating system… I then discovered XDA Developers, and, thanks to you, the little smartphone has almost come back to life. Thanks to some old forum files, I unlocked it, installed Net Compact Framework 3.5, experimented with SPB Mobile Shell 3.5, changed some registry values (changed logo on startup), etc… In addition, I also modernized thanks to the Wayback Machine where I was able to download the latest version of Google Maps and Opera Mobile 10. Finally, I replaced the touch screen myself and I am currently waiting for a new "body", making it an almost new laptop. But now, I want to go to the next step, and that's the subject of this file: the ROM.
After this slight update, I came up with the idea of flashing my current ROM for a more recent ROM. The smartphone was indeed purchased from SFR, and therefore runs on the operator ROM. I therefore want to replace it with the latest French ROM without an operator, in order to fully exploit it. Moreover, it has never been updated, therefore never flashed, which implies the presence of bugs which could have been modified afterwards. Thanks to your forum, I pretty much know how to do it, and am fully aware that wrong flashing leads to bricking, and flashing also leads to loss of all data. It's a risk I'm willing to take. I only miss one thing: the precious ROM. However, for 10 years, the various links and sites have disappeared, and even a small turn on the Wayback Machine does not give blazing results at first sight. And when it comes to finding a French version…
It is for this reason that I am appealing to you today. I have been able to know, by exploring your old files, that there have been a lot of custom ROMs on this forum, and, given all the advice you have given, I think you are the most able to help me. to help. So, I'm looking for a ROM for Samsung Omnia i900 (aka Player Addict), in French, and official. Official, for the version under WM 6.1 anyway. On the other hand, I would also be tempted by a custom ROM for WM 6.5. I know the OS was never "officially" released on the Omnia i900, but I know many of you have made your own ROMs to accommodate it. I particularly like the Titanium Today, and the more finger-friendly use. Does anyone among you have in their old hard drives, in their archives, an official French ROM under WM 6.1, or a custom ROM for WM 6.5? I specify that if it is WM 6.5, I would need the widgets and the Samsung Today. I may be difficult, but I would like to put a newer system (especially not Android, I have my Galaxy S5 for that), while keeping the features originally present. Regarding flashing, having a computer running Windows 11, would a possible flashing be possible? I thought I heard flashing could go wrong if it wasn't Windows XP...
I apologize again for disturbing, I suspect that this request is very particular, given the age of the device, but I keep the hope that someone will still have at home the precious Grail that will allow me to modernize once and for all my venerable device.
For information, my Omnia runs under the XHIB3/AEIB2 ROM (I think I read the right line…), and this is the 16 Go version.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Nicolas
PS: This is my first time writing on a forum, so I apologize if I missed any steps when posting this file… I'm only a high school student, not a developer, so I don't know not if I'm really allowed to post on your forum...
