I noticed that some of the roms for the amaze need you to "flash" new kernals. If you dont flash a new kernel wifi and bluetooth wont work. the thing is i dont really know how to change the kernel on the phone. I flashed android revolution and quiksense and both the wifi and bluetooth didnt work
i downloaded the appropriate file and it gave me a "boot.img". what do i do after i downloaded the kernal? in the dev's thread it says just to flash the kernal but didnt give instructions on how to.
any help would be appreciated

OK. I have searched and searched. And I cannot post in Development forum yet. My i9100 was rooted using CFRoot. That installed an app called CWM. It is not the same as ROM Manager found in the market. Since then I have wiped and installed Cognition S2 rom and I do not have the CWM.apk that came with CFRoot. Looked all over online and all I keep getting pointed to is the CFRoot thread or threads talking about Rom Manager. Can someone link me to / upload the CWM that comes with CFRoot?

Cognition S2 doesnt come with CF-Root kernel. To get the CWM app back you need to flash the CF-root kernel.
thanks for the link it will be useful
I have installed BAtista70 with angelom kernel
can I use this app to reflash CF root kernel or odin as the first time i rooted my phone ?
hey guys does anyone have a mirror for this ?? i don't want to get this just off of any site i want to make sure it's the real deal... we should be very careful with these apps.
Attached is CWM Manager flashable zip (please change the ext. PDF to Zip - I changed it due to upload policy here)
and check wheather this one is flashable for your ROM, this was downloaded from Checkrom Kitchen for the FW version XWLA4
MD5 Checksum of the zip : eefeb8e1e57e2c76dadbd9aa4e53773b
thanks
If you had reflashed the cfroot kernel from chainfires post, it would have put cwm manager on there for you mate.

The policy is for something...
It is very wrong to bypass restrictions this way.
It would be enough to point users to the appropriate thread...

I meant the Policy here in my workplace not XDA, XDA allows me to upload zip files
i'm staying with the stock rom (for now @ least until i figure out why i loose wifi), and entropy's DD for kernel...as otherwise my wifi goes bye bye... i just updated the modem to the uckk6 or uchk6, and i'm getting astonishing results with that modem in the chicagoland area... and i didn't loose wifi... now i tried to upgrade to the latest android version but then the wifi goes bye bye again.
p.s. i used entropy's recovery to stock quite a few times as i've used something from another forums and wifi bye bye (that same thing is posted on xda-dev as a tutorial)... so this was the only way to fix it that worked... and for some reason the only kernel that doesn't disable wifi is entropy's Daily Driver. anyways so i'm not sure why i didn't get the CMW.apk installed on my galaxy s2. hopefully this one will work. I think it's just my n00bness to custom roms that makes the WiFi disappear, hopefully i will get some more knowledge soon.
so basically my system now looks like this:
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband: i777UCKK6
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UCKH7
*** [ just the modem changed. when i go to latest android version i loose wifi ] * signatures: disabled in CMW
I also found another link for CMW.apk on the forums (different section) but of course it uses multiupload and it's not working.
p.p.s. another n00b question. do you guys think it would be safe for me to use a rom or will it disable the wifi again ?... and which rom would you suggest, something like entropy512 is using stock rom that is scrubbed from b/s... or maybe a different one, but i don't want to loose wifi as i'm on 2GB limited plan and that goes fast without wifi...
any suggestions.
Sorry but I think I forgot to say thank you to all the people who replied.

Im new to the whole SGS2 so needed a little help ive rooted my Galaxy and its on UK 2.3.5 stock rom my question is can i flash any rom i choose or is it like when rooting it when i had to get a kernel that matched.
The other thing is, is it worth buying Odin Mobile.
Cheers
Once you root your phone and have CWM recovery and not the stock one you can flash any ROM you choose. It has nothing to do with kernels but each ROM is based on a firmware so you should match your firmware to a ROM based on the same to start with and if you choose to stay with the same ROM then there are non-wipe ROMs that can be flashed over top without worries.Just be sure you read properly the install/flash instructions. Some ROMs need Odin to be flashed but most just need to be pasted to your internal-SD and then flashed in recovery mode.Ill leave a link below to my ROM where there is an instruction guide so you can read it to see what I mean.

It depends on how you have rooted ...... if as mentioned above you have CWM (means you have flashed a custom/insecure stock kernel) just flash a ROM with CWM Recovery like any ZIP but i'd advise you to reset the phone before that .... since you are on Stock ROM which is Odexed and all custom ROMs are deodexed you might end up in a bootloop also may i suggest CheckROM as it is simple to install and highly customizable thus i recommend this as your first flash......
checkrom thread:

else i use this site it's pretty awesome to keep track of things

Cheers to both of you, i think i will give checkrom ago as theres that many to choose from and im new to the rooted SGS2.
Hey Guys,
I bricked actually my phone.
I want to know now, wich is actually the best Android 4.0.3 ROM.
I know how to flash via zip and via odin.
I dont know how to flash kernel
I wanna use a Android 4.0.3 ROM with DarkKnights or Siyah Kernel, tell me what you think about it.
First flash the ROM then Kernel?
Best Regards!
Noxxo
There is no answer to "best rom/kernel?". Many are good - and it largely comes down to personal preference. Try out a few and see what you think for yourself.
In general, you flash a kernel just like you flash a rom from a .zip. Flash the rom first, then the kernel - otherwise the kernel would be overwritten with the stock one from the rom.
So the Kernel from the ROM is a stockkernel? i give a try
Well not necessarily a pure-vanilla-stock kernel, but the ROM will come with a kernel already baked in that will be a good baseline to start from.
Uhm.. at first I need CWM and a ROM with it.. I cant open now CWM. I have to flash via Odin right now, after that i can use from SD card, but i need a ROM and CWM for now, can u give me a link for a ROM via Odin ?
Flash to clear 4.0.3 it will wipe your phone (3 files - Modem file is for phone, CSC for CSC and CODE for PDA*check repartition*) + PIT file.
CFRoot it with ODIN(karnel file = PDA)it will give you root and CWM, flash old bootloader(BL file = Bootloader but dont check BL update), clear flash counter with JIG. Now you can flash zip files from CWM.
But i dont recommend 4.0.3 it is unstable and has many bugs. I am using HyperDroid 6.1.17(XILA2 based) and RedPill 1.3 karnel
I will try it now. thanks 4 ur config.
Hi guys, so i got an sgs2 on friday and have just used This method (as i didnt want to mess with kernals and stuff).. to root today, i have superuser app installed and have gave it permissions for ad free and andro SS right away no probs, but as i want to flash a miui rom i need cwm but do i need to mess with kernals just to install cwm? i cant see my kernal on any lists, its 2.6.35.7-i9100PBVK13-CL608158 [email protected]#2 if anyone can help, really much apreciated
What you have now is a "soft root". Yes, you need to use another kernel to get CWM recovery because the recovery is included in the kernel.
Thanks mate, any chance you know which kernal i should use? because i canoot see mine anywhere and dont want to make an expensive mistake
EDIT, did more searching and have CWM recovery installed now
You don't have to look for the kernel version, you have to look for a kernel with included recovery which matches your ROM version (build number in Settings - About phone). CF-Root's kernels are probably your best bet.
K13 cwm and root kernel is what you require .

Hi! Im a little confused (new to rooting),
I would like to root my 9305, and my idea is to use the "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914394"- guide
And then go on to flash this rom(?) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931255.
The things that makes me unsure is that in the thread above he mentions that:
*You need custom recovery to flash this rom. It wont work with stock rooted rom with stock recovery
*The flashable zip contain only rom. No kernel , no baseband no any other files.
Will CWM give me "custom recovery"?
I read some about the the kernel **** and baseband, but i dont frigging get it. Does the CWM come with a kernel and baseband?
Ive rooted a device before, HTC Desire HD, and when i did that i had to make it S-OFF and do some **** with radios and crap, i see anything about that here, dont you have to do any of those things anymore?
*New in the game, feels like ive gotten it all wrong*
Thanks for your understanding(?), would love some help, dont want to brick my device by doing something wrong.
