Just got the HTC Amaze. Just wondering if anybody elese is having issues connecting to a hidden WiFi network?
it connects fine to networks that broadcast their SSID, but I don't. I have already updated the phone to the latest Software and etc.
any ideas?
Check your router settings. I used to make my router visible, connect to it, then make it hidden.

I know my settings are correct. If i enable the wifi to broadcast the signal, the phone picks it right up. Then when I change it back to being hidden it will drop it. Another odd thing I noticed is that i know the phone connects to a hidden wifi network. I have noticed it when I leave the phone over night and miraculously the phone is connected to the hidden network in the morning.

i have the same issue. my ssid is hidden and i noticed that my phone has a hard time finding it. it will find it, but it is very unstable. i haven't figured out what sparks the phone to find the hidden ssid and why sometimes it doesn't.
with a broadcast ssid, it finds it immediately and has not trouble staying connected. i have had two Amaze and they both behave the same.
have you guys tried calling customer support see what they say? There has been alot of ppl having problems with the latest update that ends in .08 baseband. Maybe if we get alot of ppl calling in they will push for another update?

taught I did...no fix yet sorry
Same issue here. My home is broadcast and connects instantly. My work is not broadcast and it connects whenever it feels like it.

My home network has a hidden ssid and I noticed that my amaze seems to take longer to connect to it vs a broadcasted network ssid. My brother had a droid razr and it connects much faster than my phone does.
---------- Post added at 03:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:19 PM ----------
One more thing I forgot to add, when my phone is connected to my hidden network, my connection also seems to be unstable as well. I always thought it was because of my phone case. Anyways my signal will go from 5 bars down to 1 bar and back up again in the span of about 30 minutes so it's not like it's going crazy.

What rom and baseband are you on? Have you guys tried putting aluminum foil on the WiFi antenna?
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using xda premium
I'm using stock ROM and I do have the foil over my WiFi antenna because without it, I can't get a strong enough WiFi signal through my phone case to stay connected.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
Same problem here. Stock rom (also same problem on the inital ROM that came on it before the OTA upgrade). Hidden WiFi networks are very hard to connect to, tend to drop connection, and stay disconnected even when within range quite often.
Meanwhile my wife's samsung has no problem finding, connection, and staying connected to the very same router from several rooms away.
If I enable the broadcasting of the SSID on the router then the HTC will connect almost immediately, and will not drop connection until the very edge of its range.
Solution... don't go against 802.11 spec and hide your network (null SSID)

Yeah, too bad I don't have control of that.

I have a the TITAN windows phone and I really love it!
I know a lot of people have that problem too and, the only thing that's making me thinking about changing it is its signal strength.
It is very bad!
I always have only 2 or 3 bars at most. And, when the phone is in 3g/4g mode, the calls drop when I have only 1 bar of signal. Can't make phone calls at 1 bar neither so, I always switch the phone to 2g/edge (using the ##3282# trick...).
It works fine on 2g/edge network, no problems at all and lots of signal too!!!
So, I was just wondering if anybody bought the new TITAN II, is the signal strength any better than the TITAN?
Because if it is, I'll buy it and give this one to my wife because I cannot work with a phone on 2g/edge only. I need fast internet.
It would be nice to post some pictures of it too with the back cover off so we can see if the antennas look better (updated) ....
Thanks!
My Titan II is full bars almost everywhere I go.
No LTE coverage in my area til December though.
I'm also wondering how the call quality is. Even thought the Titan is a badass phone, I suffer from that muffled sound that people complain about when I talk to them without a bluetooth headset. I was wondering if the call quality on the Titan II is much better than the original
I am wondering the same. Its funny how the Titan II doesn't have its own section on xda

Seeing as the only difference is LTE and the Camera there isn't much need for a completely different section. When ROMS are released the only issue that might come up with compatibility is the camera Driver.
As for signal see as its a rubber/plastic back compared to the original metal = Better Signal all around

Could you be kind enough to post a picture of it with the back cover off?
I really want to see if the antennas are the same as the TITAN.
And, what about the sound?
Do people hear you loud and clear? not muffled???
Thanks !!!
Anyone with Titan 2 - could you please see if you have the SRS HD issue or not? i.e. play some graphic intensive game with SRS HD on - see if it lags or pauses. Then switch it off and see if it doesn't?
I hope it's fixed and you could have sound in SRS HD with excellent graphics!

These settings look awesome!
Especially the 2g/3g and Auto! "Auto" is the one which will help those who suffer from bad 3g I suppose.
Via settings menu we can only do 2g or 3g (on 8107). However, If this trick allows to select Auto, it means instead of constantly looking for either 2g or 3g, the phone will be able to easily swap with whatever is available! Excellent!
However, don't know if this is with data or without data!
EDIT: I am 'guessing' and now testing that by increasing the polling frequency from 3sec to 10 sec we will be able to calm down the battery drain and theoratically the battery will last longer. I am going to keep testing at 10sec for couple of charge-discharge cycles and report back. I've also manually set it to 'auto' instead of 3g only from settings. If anyone knows that this might be harmful or bad, please drop me an alert!
Wow, Lots of settings to get wrong lol, Very handy to know that trick though, Await your findings drupad, best of luck

Hah! It's been one hour so far.
Data on, Auto set, Polling 10 secs. Phone idle. Not touched it. It only syncs my hotmail, outlook, twitter and facebook as item arrives. No other background tasks.
The battery has dropped 1% in roughly 63-64 minutes. BTW This includes a restart too which is weird as restart always drops 4-5% of battery for me.
Too early to say anything
Superb stuff, looks very promising so far, I noticed I couldn't change polling to ten as only went up to nine? Have gotta give it a go now.
Update: Settings don't stay active on my handset, as soon as you leave Field Test then go back the settings have defaulted.
Ok now disappointing news. On restart, it sets back to 3g only and also polling resets to 3 seconds! Also, on switching on WiFi and switching off leads to reset! I am not sure if this answers the question of - wifi/3g and non-APN SIM cards. Could you please try the WiFi bit? Does your SIM have APN settings saved on it or you need manual addition?

Left field test open and turned on wi-fi, went back to field test and settings remain, As for APN Have no clue
I only use the field test settings to switch to 2G/Edge and keep the data on because, as I said in my previous post, it is the only way I get good signal.
I also noticed that if you change the poll frequency to anything else than 3, it will eventually reset both to default.
Also, when I change the settings to 2G, I have to hit the back button and wait about 5 sec. for the change to take effect or else it does not work.

surely my phone is one of the kind then!
APN settings won't be an issue for you I think.
Giffgaff uses O2's network,so doesn't have it's own settings on the SIM. That's why everytime I use wifi, I can't access marketplace on 3g. After turning off wifi, I have to edit APN manually and restart if I want marketplace/zune on 3g. Otherwise 3g works normally.

Hmm..... I have AT&T SGS3. Glad you were able to turn it off.
I saw this as well, but I think it probably only does this when you are looking at the available wireless networks page since that's when you need to see the networks. It probably doesn't when you aren't looking at it. But I guess it's the old argument when a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

If it scans only when I am looking at the wifi settings, then it should be fine. My only concern was that it may be using battery all the time. Thanks.
You should be able to change this in build. Prop

there is some known wifi issue
This is new. My phone shows full signal bars, but data does not work (no LTE displayed in the status bar). When I look at the settings it says "Disconnected" right below Mobile data. If I turn it off and on, it will say "Turning On..." then "Disconnected".
The weird part is that I know I get LTE signal right here (at my desk at work). I've been using the phone here all week. It was working fine, then it switched to disconnected. The first time I turned the data off/on, it connected, showed LTE, and sent an email I had tried to send. Now it refuses to connect at all.
I rebooted the phone, and it first connected to LTE, and now has full bars of 3G.
Anyone else notice something similar happen?
EDIT: Looks like it's Verizon possibly doing some tower work in NYC.
its possible you have a toasted sim card. not very common but i have seen it happen before on my gnex and a few others. Good luck
Another possibility is that Verizon in your area is fixing things.
If you are in Manhattan, a couple of us experienced unstable data connection these few days.
If such data disconnection happens cross the country , then it is a device's issue, which I suspect not.

Same thing keeps happening to me. It's frustrating because it will spool up LTE with full bars, not transmit any data and then disconnect completely from data. Will have to restart my phone which normally gets me back to working 3G until it happens again in an hour or so and have to repeat the process. Toggling the data connection on and off doesn't help. Verizon replaced my SIM card but it hasn't helped anything. Hoping it's just a temporary NYC issue.

Not surprising given some of the photos I've seen of their infrastructure after Sandy. Good to hear I'm not the only one.
This could be a different problem, but today I completely lost all mobile signal, both data and voice. It looked like I was in the subway (with no data icon and a little x next to the bars) . I waited for a couple of hours to see if the signal comes back, but it did not. A reboot fixed the issue.
I would not think much of this typically, but my wife has complained about exactly the same thing. Said she had to reboot the phone on two occasions already to get the signal back. WiFi worked fine though.
Could be a bug with the DNA.

I had that issue with the Galaxy S2.
Simple and fast solution: walk into a local carrier store and pop in a new one. It's free, and surely saves time without having to stress over troubleshooting it
Hi Everyone,
I got the same issue. I did a quick search on xda for this issue and saw this thread on this topic.
I opted to get the HTC One X+ instead of the DNA.
The first week I got the phone (from UK) everything worked fine and now I can't get the data connection to work.
I am currently on Vodafone.
The funny thing is, I take the same SIM card put it into my HTC One X which I got here in Australia and it works fine. No problems, always get a data connection.
However since the new HTC One X+ worked fine for the last few weeks and now it doesn't, I don't think it has anything to do with the networks.
Now since DNA is having this same issue, I am wondering if it has to do with Jelly Bean or the Sense upgrade using the HTC One +(plus).
Very frustrating. Any further thoughts about this bloody frustrating issue ?

Update. Got it working again. Network connections are a bit sensitive.
Will monitor this issue over the next week.
So it is not necessarily the SIM Card.

I still have this frustrating problem. With my galaxy note 10.1 I have 75% connection on GSM and a network connection. With HTC One X+ 20% connection on GSM and NO network connection.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Any suggestions anyone?
I have the same issue and I live in California. I think it's definitely a Droid DNA issue, not the Verizon network. I lose all mobile data, not just LTE. It happens probably a few times a day and even when I'm in the middle of a phone call. I'll have to restart my phone to get it working, but I've even had a couple of times where even a restart didn't work and I had to shut the phone off completely multiple times. This issue is rather frustrating!

Because I am rocking an old Thunderbolt still with an ICS AOSP ROM and it does that as well.

Ah thanks I see now. That is really stupid. On every other version of the Note 2 (Intl + all non-Verizon US carriers) there is a Wi-Fi toggle in the top power bar, but not on Verizon. GG Verizon ruining everything they get their greedy little hands on.

Sounds similar to my experience. I'll pick up the phone from time to time and notice that WIFI icon is off and it's on 4G. When I go to the Networks menu it shows my router but says "poor signal". Oh really? it's 18 inches away and every other wireless device stays connected rock solid. I've tried toggling Wireless off/on and Airplane mode off/on and the only way to get it to reconnect is a full reboot. I'm hoping this new release fixes it - if not, it's going back to ATT.

Rooted? Unlocked? ROM or kernel changed?
I just started having this same issue about a week ago not long after I flashed theBase 7.3, and kernelSk8 2.2.
I had this exact issue until I read somewhere on here about using the att smart WiFi app. It connects instantly when get home, haven't had a problem since.

bone stock for the time being - intend to root and flash a JB ROM as soon as a good one becomes available
